Scholars Plan U.S.’ First Four-Year Accredited Islamic College

Sunday, May 17, 2009

Imam Zaid Shakir, a Muslim scholar and teacher, plans to soon open Zaytuna Institute, an American Muslim think-tank/educational institution.

The ultimate purpose of Zaytuna College is to become the bulwark for a wholly new construction of Islam, one firmly rooted in traditional Islamic teachings, yet uniquely and unapologetically American.

PLAINSBORO, N.J. —  A group of American Muslims, led by two prominent scholars, is moving closer to fulfilling a vision of founding the first four-year accredited Islamic college in the United States, what some are calling a “Muslim Georgetown.”

Advisers to the project have scheduled a June vote to decide whether the proposed Zaytuna College can open in the fall of next year, a major step toward developing the faith in America.

Imam Zaid Shakir and Sheik Hamza Yusuf of California have spent years planning the school, which will offer a liberal arts education and training in Islamic scholarship. Shakir, a California native, sees the school in the tradition of other religious groups that formed universities to educate leaders and carve a space in the mainstream of American life.

“As a faith community our needs aren’t any different than the needs of any other faith community,” Shakir told the Council for the Advancement of Muslim Professionals, as he sought donations at a recent conference near Princeton, N.J. “As Muslims, we need to develop institutions to allow us to perpetuate our values.” Continue Reading →

Imane Boudal, 26, asked her employers at Disneyland’s Grand Californian Hotel several months ago whether they would permit her to wear a headcovering while working as a hostess, a spokesman for a worker’s union said.

But when no reply was forthcoming, she decided to don the headscarf anyway, timing her decision with the beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, Leigh Shelton, a spokesman for the Unite Here Local 11 union said.

“Disney told Boudlal that if she wanted to work as a hostess she had to remove her hijab because it did not comply with the ‘Disney Look,’” the spokesman said. Continue Reading →

A strict Muslim woman who says she has never shown her face in public, has been ordered by a female judge to remove her veil when she gives evidence in an Australian court.

District Court judge Shauna Deane said in the Western Australian Supreme Court today that in the interest of a fair trial against a man accused of fraud, she should not be allowed to wear a niqab, which allows only the eyes to be seen.

The 36-year-old woman, known only as Tasneem, said she was a strict Muslim and it was against her religion to show her face anywhere except in the confines of her home. Continue Reading →

Washington Times: KUHNER: Obama’s Islamic agenda

He embraces the Muslim world and turns his back on us

President Obama has revealed his true nature. After 20 months in the Oval Office, he still remained a largely unknown figure. A picture is coming into focus now, and it should trouble all Americans. It is widely known that Mr. Obama is a post-national progressive. Yet he is also a cultural Muslim who is promoting an anti-American, pro-Islamic agenda. This is the real meaning of his warm – and completely needless – embrace of the Ground Zero Mosque.

At an Iftar dinner celebrating Ramadan at the White House, Mr. Obama told Muslim-Americans that he supports the building of an Islamic community center and mosque just two blocks away from where the Twin Towers were destroyed and nearly 3,000 Americans were murdered on Sept. 11, 2001. He later tried to back away from those comments. Mr. Obama said he was defending the right of religious freedom but not the “wisdom” of erecting the mosque. Continue Reading →

Southern Sudan Unveils Plans for Animal-Shaped Cities

From BBC:

By Mary Harper BBC News

Daniel Wani, Undersecretary for the Ministry of Housing and Physical Planning in the Government of South Sudan, explains a map of Wau in the shape of an giraffe - 18 August 2010 A long boulevard will run down the neck of giraffe-shaped Wau

The authorities in southern Sudan have unveiled a $10bn (£6.4bn) plan to rebuild the region’s cities in the shapes of animals and fruit.

Elaborate blueprints for the new cities have already been drawn up.

The regional capital, Juba, will be relocated and designed in the shape of a rhinoceros. Wau, the capital of Western Bahr el-Ghazal state, is to be a somewhat unwieldy giraffe.

Sudan: Country at a crossroads

Southern Sudanese are due to vote in a referendum on independence next year.

In Juba, the office of the regional president is situated where the rhinoceros’s eye should be.

In Wau, the sewage treatment plant is appropriately placed under the giraffe’s tail. Continue Reading →

Anti-Semitism soars in Holland

From the Jerusalem Post with a H/T to KitmanTV

There is a popular misconception that the Dutch are an easygoing, tolerant people.

Like many Jews, as a youngster I associated Holland with windmills and tulips and a heroic people which bravely defended Jews during the Nazi occupation.

Alas, I subsequently learned that the record of the Dutch towards the Jews was nothing of the sort. There were tens of thousands of Dutch righteous gentiles who risked their lives to save Jews but there were far more collaborators, over 25,000 of whom even volunteered for the Waffen SS. Overall, the Dutch authorities willingly assisted in the deportation of the Jews. Anne Frank and her family were amongst those denounced to the Nazis. Of the 140,000 Jews living in the Netherlands before the war, over 100,000 were murdered.

Today, there is a popular misconception that the Dutch are an easygoing, tolerant, multi-cultured people.

In truth, Dutch society has become polarized as a consequence of the massive influx of non-Western immigrants, predominantly Muslim, who have shattered social stability. Muslims currently comprise one million out of a 16 million population, a disproportionate number of whom have police records.

Together with indigenous anti- Semites, some radical Muslims have effectively exploited the culture of permissiveness to violently promote their objectives.

Verbal and physical violence has escalated, climaxing in November 2004 with the brutal public street murder in Amsterdam of Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh who was shot and stabbed to death by Mohammed Bouyeri, a Muslim radical.

Although this had a major impact on Dutch society, it did not become the watershed one may have expected. However the status of the 30,000 members of the Jewish community, already subjected to increasing anti- Semitic incitement and violence primarily emanating from the Moroccan Muslim community, continued to deteriorate.

The leading daily newspaper NRC Handelsblad published an article in June stating that anti- Semitism in areas of Amsterdam has become the norm rather than the exception. It identified areas in Amsterdam in which Jews with skullcaps or distinctive garb cannot walk in the streets without being affronted, spat at or even attacked.

In May, an outdoor commemoration ceremony for the last transport of 3,000 Jewish children deported during the Holocaust was disrupted by bikers shrieking “Heil Hitler” during the recitation of Kaddish.

Anti-Semitism also manifests itself in anti-Israel demonstrations where cries of “Hamas Hamas – Jews to the gas”; “Jew cancer”; and “Hitler let one get away!” are frequently heard. Football stadiums have become notorious arenas for anti-Israel and anti-Semitic chants. About half of the registered criminal utterances reported on the internet throughout Holland in 2009 were against Jews. It is believed that if full records were accessible, the proportion would be much higher.

LAST MONTH, the 280-year-old synagogue in Weesp became the first Jewish house of worship in Europe since the war obliged to cancel Sabbath services after the police had warned congregants of threats of violence. Continue Reading →

Bull jumps out of the ring, attacks crowd.

I have been to a bull fight in South America and as a result I have mixed feelings about this. I really found the ritual slaughter of a bull difficult to watch. It most certainly is not a fight. It is a ceremonial butchery.

The music I am told, is from an old British game show called, ‘Bullseye’ and hence the joke. If you want to see the drama of this clip turn the sound off the first time you watch, then watch again with it on for the ‘joke’.

In any case, thats 2,453,236 for the monkeys, and 1 for the bull.

An extremely biased article entitled ‘The EDL demonstration can’t be stopped? Rubbish’ was recently published by the Guardian Newspaper in the United Kingdom. It appears that this newspaper is more of a propaganda organ of the ruling elite and its approved version of event than it is of genuine journalism, and informing the public of current events in a balanced way. I made the following comment in response to this outrageous article that seemed to be written for the sole purpose of demonising the EDL and its important message to the British people:

“It is vital that people stand up and oppose the rise of sharia – the EDL are doing a service to civilization by taking up this cause. The EDL are not isolated, they are supported by people from all over the world from many walks of life, many cultures and many religions. It is a shame that the media chooses to continue to demonise the EDL and their valid message.

I think the so-called progressive element within British society are being hypocrites in two main ways. Firstly, they want to single out people to not have political rights because they disagree with their viewpoints. Secondly, they claim to be progressive but do not seem to be willing to oppose the drip, drip, entry of sharia into our socio-political environment, sharia being a system which is barbaric and blights the lives of millions around the world. By not opposing sharia they are condoning homophobia, tolerating misogyny, endorsing inequality before the law, undermining religious freedom (under sharia non-Muslims have a second class status), and supporting the emergency of a rival legal system and a two tier Britain. When I was involved in the politics of the left these were values that were central to its political philosophy. Now, the left seems to be totalitarian to the extent that they have embraced a form of fascism and totalitarianism. Continue Reading →

A Saudi judge has asked several hospitals in the country whether they could damage a man’s spinal cord as punishment after he was convicted of attacking another man with a cleaver and paralyzing him, local newspapers reported on Thursday.

Saudi Arabia enforces strict Islamic law and occasionally metes out punishments based on the ancient legal code of an eye-for-an-eye. However, Saudi King Abdullah has been trying to clamp down on extremist ideology.

The reports said Abdul-Aziz al-Mutairi, 22, was left paralyzed after a fight more than two years ago and asked a judge to impose an equivalent punishment on his attacker under Islamic law. Continue Reading →

A reminder to America’s left, and hollywood.

This short video I hope will serve as a reminder to America’s left and Hollywood elite. Muslims are serious about sharia law. There is no Islam without sharia. They are one and the same. And they will murder people who are homosexual, for being homosexual.
