Egypt’s Christians face mass slaughter by Islamists

NEW YORK – The Coptic Christian community in Egypt now is under threat of mass slaughter from Islamists under the pretense of revenge for a movie that depicts the Quranic figure Muhammad in a negative light, a senior Egyptian military official told WND.

The producers of the “Innocence of Muslims” movie reportedly are tied to the Coptic faith. Reports are claiming the movie sparked anti-U.S. attacks in Egypt and Libya, including the killing this week of the U.S. ambassador to Libya. However, some security officials believe the violence to be premeditated.

The Egyptian military official said today that Islamic groups are threatening to slaughter “the whole Christian Coptic community” in the city of Naja Hamadi, located about 60 miles from Cairo. Naja Hamadi contains a large Coptic community.

Two Egyptian immigrants from Southern California reportedly were forces behind the “Innocence of Muslims” movie. Joseph Nassralla Abdelmasih, the president of the Duarte-based charity Media for Christ, reportedly was a producer, while Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a convicted felon, allowed his home to be used in the movie’s shooting.

While Egyptian protesters battled security forces outside the US embassy on Thursday morning, another standoff was taking place — this time in cyberspace.

The Muslim Brotherhood’s official English-language Twitter account @Ikwanweb reposted a message from the group’s deputy head, Khairat El-Shater, saying he was “relieved none of @USembassycairo staff was hurt” and expressing his hope that US-Egypt relations could weather the events.

This reconciliatory tweet, however, was posted while the Brotherhood’s Arabic-language Twitter account and its official website were both praising the protests — staged against a US-made film judged defamatory towards Islam — and calling for a million man march on Friday.

One Arabic language article on the Brotherhood’s site sported the headline ‘Egyptians rise to defend the Prophet’.

Less than one year after closing its headquarters in Damascus, Hamas’s “outside” leadership has found a new home in the Egyptian capital of Cairo.

Hamas leaders are split between Gaza, where they took violent control in 2007, the West Bank, where they seek to gain control, and elsewhere in the region.

London-based daily Al-Hayat reported Tuesday that Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood administration has agreed to open a Hamas office in eastern Cairo and establish a joint committee with Hamas to discuss issues of security along the Gaza-Egypt border.

Hamas’s Gaza Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh will meet with his counterpart Hisham Kandil in Egypt on Thursday, the daily said.

What all the fuss is about.

I don’t exactly know what is going on in Egypt in terms of the US EMbassy storming as well as Libya but a commenter to Vlad said it was about this film:

There is also an Arabic version of it. And I have no idea what this has to do with the US except that it may have been made in the US and if it was, then this is blackmail of the highest order.

If anyone gives in to these savages now, then its a new dark age for a long fucking time.

Egyptian protesters scale US Embassy wall in Cairo

By MAGGIE MICHAEL, Associated Press – 22 minutes ago

CAIRO (AP) — Mainly ultraconservative protesters climbed the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Egypt’s capital Tuesday and brought down the American flag, replacing it with a black Islamist flag to protest a U.S.-produced film attacking the Prophet Muhammad. Hours later, armed men in eastern Libya also stormed the US consulate there and set it on fire as anger spread.

It was the first time ever that the U.S. Embassy in Cairo has been breached and comes as Egypt is struggling to overcome months of unrest following the ouster of Hosni Mubarak’s autocratic regime. U.S. officials said no Americans were reported harmed in the assaults in Cairo or the eastern city of Benghazi.

The unrest in Cairo began when hundreds of protesters marched to the downtown embassy, gathering outside its walls and chanting against the movie and the U.S.

“Say it, don’t fear: Their ambassador must leave,” the crowd chanted.

Washington has confirmed that a group of protesters scaled the wall of the US embassy in Cairo and tore down the American flag.

DW.De:

The incursion came in response to a film deemed by some to be offensive to Islam.

Several protesters climbed up onto the walls of the embassy and ripped down the US flag, raising another flag in its place.

Security reinforcements were rushed to the area and removed the trespassers.

“We had some people breach the wall, take the flag down and replace it,” State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said. “What I heard was that it was replaced with a plain black flag. But I maybe not be correct in that,” she said, amid speculation that the flag that had been raised carried the emblem of a jihadist organization.

Reports also suggested the flag was inscribed with the Muslim profession of faith: “There is no God but God and Mohammed is the prophet of God.”

Several hundred demonstrators had already gathered outside the embassy to protest at a film produced by Egyptian Coptic Christians living in the US, which the protesters claim defames Islam’s Prophet Muhammad.

It was reported that the protesters tried unsuccessfully to set the flag alight before pulling it down.

Taken by surprise

Members of the crowd were reported to include members of Islamist groups and “ultra” football fans.

Egypt’s sexual harassment of women ‘epidemic’

Egyptian women are harassed by men and boys in Cairo. Photo: August 2012 Some Egyptian women are now scared to appear alone or even with female friends in public places

Campaigners in Egypt say the problem of sexual harassment is reaching epidemic proportions, with a rise in such incidents over the past three months. For many Egyptian women, sexual harassment – which sometimes turns into violent mob-style attacks – is a daily fact of life, reports the BBC’s Bethany Bell in Cairo.

Last winter, an Egyptian woman was assaulted by a crowd of men in the city of Alexandria.

In video footage of the incident, posted on the internet, she is hauled over men’s shoulders and dragged along the ground, her screams barely audible over the shouts of the mob.

It is hard to tell who is attacking her and who is trying to help.

The case was one of the most extreme – but surveys say many Egyptian women face some form of sexual harassment every day.

Marwa, not her real name, says she worries about being groped or verbally harassed whenever she goes downtown. She says it makes her afraid.

“This is something that scares me, as a girl. When I want to go out, walking the street and someone harasses or annoys me, it makes me afraid.

“This stops me from going out. I try to be excessively cautious in the way I dress so I avoid wearing things that attract people.”

Egypt Shuts Down Last Jewish Synagogue

Front Page Magazine:

The Anti-Israel crowd likes to pretend that the ethnic cleansing of the Middle East’s Jews was an economic phenomenon. And every few weeks there is a reminder of how precarious the situation is even for the few Jews still remaining, in what was once an Egyptian city with a tremendous Jewish population.

For the first time in 2,000 years, this year there will be no Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur services at the Eliyahu Hanavi Synagogue in Alexandria.

The synagogue was the last ‘working’ synagogue in Egypt. The Egyptian authorities have banned High Holiday services for ‘security’ reasons.

Egypt prof: Israel will be gone by next year

Ex-MP Gamal Zahran tells Iranian TV station that, Allah willing, Jewish state will be annihilated

An Egyptian political science professor told an Iranian TV station that, with Allah’s help, “Israel will be annihilated” by 2013.

In an interview with Iran’s state-run Arabic news channel Al-Alam last week, Professor Gamal Zahran, head of the political science department at Egypt’s Port Said University and a former Independent MP, said: “Jerusalem is at the heart of the Palestinian cause, and the Palestinian cause is the cause of all Arabs and Muslims. The elimination of the Zionist entity is beyond debate, and the only question has to do with the circumstances.”

Zahran added that “the Arab revolutions, which broke out in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, and Yemen – as well as in Bahrain and elsewhere – generate the people’s hope that one day, Jerusalem and Palestine will return to them.”

The interviewer interjected: “Why keep it only as a hope? Why not act on it?
