Humiliated: David Jones, who created Fireman Sam, is outraged by the way he was treated at Gatwick Airport
The creator of the popular children’s character Fireman Sam has told how he was accused of racism after making a light-hearted remark at Gatwick airport.
Dave Jones said he experienced an ‘Orwellian nightmare’ after commenting on the ease with which a woman with her face covered by a hijab, another form of the burqa, had walked through security controls.
As he placed his scarf and other items into a tray to pass through an X-ray scanner, he quipped to an official: ‘If I was wearing this scarf over my face, I wonder what would happen.’
To his astonishment, he was met on the other side of the barrier by officials who detained him for an hour in an attempt to force him to apologise and the police were called.
Mr Jones, 67, who was supposed to be meeting his daughters, said: ‘Something like George Orwell’s 1984 now seems to have arrived in Gatwick airport.
‘I feel my rights as an individual have been violated.
‘What I underwent amounts to intimidation, unlawful arrest and detention. I was humiliated and denigrated in full public view.

Mr Jones said that when he had made his original remark, the guard had appeared to agree with him, responding: ‘I know what you mean, but we have our rules and you aren’t allowed to say that.’

As he went through security where he hoped to meet up with his two grown-up daughters, he was confronted by a woman official who said he was being held because he had made an offensive remark.

Sir Paul Nurse said many young people were unable to distinguish between “nonsense” and science because they are not taught to differentiate between reliable and unreliable information.
In an interview with Radio Times, Sir Paul said better scienceeducation was crucial to Britain’s economic future and improving society.
The Nobel Prize-winning geneticist and cell biologist said: “Astrology might be amusing and entertaining, but it has nothing to do with rational thought.
“Astronomy is a science where you get ideas and hypotheses, you test them, you try to shoot them down and, at the end of that rational process, you have reliable knowledge.
“Learning to make that distinction between reliable and unreliable knowledge is really important in education.”
BBC airs documentary on radical Islam in Luton today
The BBC seems to want to appear to try and take back the narrative of protecting actual liberalism in the UK by airing a documentary on the painfully obvious, ultra-convservative ISlam in England.
xAs it is airing in the UK only and not available online till tomorrow we won’t know how they have spun it yet. My guess is they will show some of the horror, claim some of it is bad but it isn’t the real Islam and then manage somehow to blame the EDL for all that is bad that these Muslims do and say while exonerating any foreign nationals or British Muslims.
They will however show you some genuinely shocking footage of Islam in England in order to create plausible deniability as by now, no-one in England buys the ‘Islam in peace’ narrative without at least some maple syrup or honey on the probe.
Below is a 2 minute clip from this documentary. Quite interesting I think. I very much look forward to how the BBC will spin it with the whole thing, which, as I mentioned, should be online sometime tomorrow.
Police told suspicious landlord to “Leave the man alone” when he thought the DC terrorist was making bombs

WASHINGTON — A northern Virginia landlord says he thought a Moroccan man arrested in an alleged suicide bombing plot in Washington was suspicious and called police a year and a half ago.
Frank Dynda said today that a woman who leased an apartment in his Arlington building apparently married Amine El Khalifi and then moved out. He says when Dynda told El Khalifi to leave, he said he had a right to stay and threatened to beat Dynda up.
A counterterrorism official says El Khalifi was taken into custody Friday near the U.S. Capitol with an inoperable gun and inert explosives in a suicide vest given to him by the FBI.
Dynda says he thought El Khalifi was making bombs, but police told him to leave the man alone. Dynda had El Khalifi evicted in 2010.

What is concerning is that the first speaker, Dr. Hassan-Yari, who lectures at a major Canadian Military academy, Royal Military College of Canada, and was using sophomoric moral equivalence. The kind that no student should be allowed to graduate grade 9 from, without being able to see through and defeat.
He actually said that Iran calls the US “The Great Satan” and the US calls Iran, “Axis of Evil” with the intention of attempting to create the impression of moral equivalence.
This is at the very best the kind of intellectual laziness that should cause terror in that it is the voice that trains future military leaders but is more likely an excellent example of the kind of infiltration and political correctness former CIA trainer Clare Lopez has spoken about numerous times in terms of US military teachers and intelligence trainers, most notably at the CIA itself.

Many Canadian police agencies “actively suppress” racial data when delivering their annual crime reports to Ottawa — a trend that is both disturbing and growing, according to a study released Wednesday.
The study, published in the Canadian Journal of Law and Society, said the continued “whitewashing” of criminal data makes it virtually impossible for researchers to gauge whether police are dealing with racial and ethnic minority groups in an equitable manner.
“Community relationships are so important for policing. If you want to develop better relationships, show you’re working on issues these communities are concerned about,” said lead author Paul Millar, an assistant professor of criminology at Nipissing University in North Bay, Ont., in an interview. “Be accountable.”
Police agencies gave several reasons Wednesday for why they don’t collect or report racial characteristics of the people they come in contact with.
RCMP spokesman Sgt. Greg Cox said asking a victim or accused person to identify their race “may give rise to human rights and privacy concerns.”

Supreme Court says Balen Report is exempt from Freedom of Information rules

The BBC has won an eight-year battle to keep an internal report on its coverage of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict secret.
The Supreme Court today ruled that the 2004 Balen Report, which was commissioned by the BBC to investigate the impartiality of its coverage of Middle Eastern affairs, was exempt from the 2000 Freedom of Information Act because it is held “for the purposes of journalism”.
The saga began in 2005 when London lawyer Steven Sugar made a Freedom of Information request asking to see the report. The BBC refused, citing the fact that it is only subject to FOI requests “in respect of information held for purposes other than those of journalism, art or literature”.

Al Amin Dhalla had been engaged to Alison HewittA former City worker convicted of stalking his former fiancee and her family has been convicted of two further charges.
Al Amin Dhalla, 42, of no fixed abode, was found guilty of seven charges including harassment and arson at Lewes Crown Court on Tuesday.
He was also found guilty of possessing an offensive weapon and perverting the course of justice on Wednesday but cleared of one count of theft.
He will be sentenced at a later date.
Dhalla, a Canadian, was accused of stalking Alison Hewitt, of Brighton, and her family after she ended their relationship.
