(ANSAmed) – BRUSSELS, APRIL 23 – Saudi Arabian Justice Minister Mohammed al-Isa defended the kingdom’s human rights record at a hearing on Tuesday before the European Parliament’s foreign affairs commission.

”We respect freedom of opinion and human rights, so long as they don’t infringe on public order and the rights of others”, the minister explained. Other faiths are banned from building churches and temples in Saudi Arabia because it is ”a land sacred to Islam. Other uses would be unacceptable. It would be like building a mosque in the Vatican: it’s a question of principle”, the minister said. ”But this does not mean people aren’t allowed to profess other religions”.

We are often fed the idea that Indonesia is a ‘moderate’ Islamic nation.  Events on the ground would suggest something very different.  The Australia News Network reports on the demolition of a Christian Church near Jakarta (1).  Click HERE for the Australia News Network Coverage which includes a video about the issue.

Again, we don’t hear a peep from the supposed high priests of religious tolerance at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).  The OIC promoted UNHRC Resolution 16/18 that purports to confront threats to freedom of religion.  It seems very clear that the OIC does not in fact favour religious freedom and Indonesia is an OIC member state.  Perhaps to the OIC, religious freedom only means the freedom to expand the reach of sharia.

Human Rights Watch has exposed widespread religious persecution of non-Muslims in Muslim majority Indonesia (1).  Some commentators have pointed to Indonesia as a as a ‘moderate’ Muslim country (2) and that includes the obviously easily led British Prime Minister David Cameron. Of course Indonesia is a member of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), that curious organisation that claims to be in favour of religious tolerance.  Unfortunately, to the OIC religious tolerance actually means tolerance of, and indeed complete acceptance of sharia law.  That is why the OIC claims that freedom of speech leads to ‘defamation of Islam’ in the West but does not seem to mention the actual persecution that goes on in its own member states.

It should be obvious to all at this point that the call has gone out via the mosques to up the transition from the Mecca phase of Islam to the Medina phase. More plainly, that where Muslims enjoy the numerical upper hand they should act out more and more violently towards non-Muslims where able until “All religion is for allah”

Bangladesh war crimes verdict sparks more violence

Protesters clashed with police for a second day, after a senior Islamist party leader was sentenced to death by a special war crimes tribunal.

Delwar Hossain Sayeedi was found guilty on Thursday of charges including murder, rape and torture during the war of independence in 1971.

At least 40 people have been killed as deadly clashes swept the country after the verdict was announced.

Sayeedi’s Jamaat-e-Islami party says the tribunal is biased against it.

The party was opposed to Bangladeshi independence but denies any role in war crimes committed by pro-Pakistan militias. Official estimates say more than three million people were killed in the war.

(Jakarta) – The Indonesian government is failing to protect the country’s religious minorities from growing religious intolerance and violence, Human Rights Watch said in a new report released today. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono should respond much more decisively and adopt a “zero tolerance” policy for attacks on religious minority communities.

The 107-page report, “In Religion’s Name: Abuses against Religious Minorities in Indonesia,” documents the government’s failure to confront militant groups whose thuggish harassment and assaults on houses of worship and members of religious minorities has become increasingly aggressive. Those targeted include Ahmadiyahs, Christians, and Shia Muslims. Indonesian monitoring groups have noted a steady increase in such attacks, one group finding 264 violent incidents over the past year.

FOX: Report: Iran confiscates Buddha statues to stop promotion of Buddhism

TEHRAN, Iran –  Buddha statues have joined Barbie dolls and characters from “The Simpsons” TV cartoon as banned items in the conservative Muslim nation.

Authorities are confiscating Buddha statues from shops in the Iranian capital, Tehran, to stop the promotion of Buddhism in the country, according to a report Sunday in the independent Arman daily.

Iran has long fought against items, such as Barbie toys, to defuse Western influence, but this appears to be the first time that Iranian authorities are showing an opposition to symbols from the East.

The newspaper quoted Saeed Jaberi Ansari, an official for the protection of Iran’s cultural heritage, as calling the Buddha statues symbols of “cultural invasion.”

Chechnya’s Kadyrov Calls for Crackdown on Sorcery

Sorcerers, psychics, and faith healers may be on the way out in Chechnya, where the leader of the mountainous, overwhelmingly Muslim region in Russia’s Caucasus has ordered a crackdown on the practices.

Kremlin-backed strongman Ramzan Kadyrov called on Chechens to steer clear of “charlatans” claiming to have magic powers, whom he accused of exploiting people’s sufferings for money.

Kadyrov said at a meeting with municipal leaders in Grozny, the capital, on Saturday that “turning to wizards and false healers won’t bring them any relief and is banned by Islam,” according to a statement from the Chechen government. He went on to threaten that anyone engaging in such practices would feel the force of the region’s feared security services.

The communications watchdog, Ofcom, has made a series of rulings against channels which allowed “inflammatory” material to be broadcast in breach of rules which forbid extreme opinions gaining a platform on British television.

The cases, disclosed today, include examples of an imam telling viewers that those who disrespect the prophet Mohammed should be killed, and another broadcaster saying homosexuals should be beaten and tortured.

The stations were found to have committed serious breaches of the broadcasting code by allowing the extreme opinions to be aired unchallenged.

Atheist Richard Dawkins has managed to outrage another religion after calling Muslims ‘barbarians’.

The 71-year-old author of The God Delusion was referring to the severe damage caused by Islamist extremists to a sacred library in Timbuktu, Mali, but his remarks were seen as insulting to all Muslims.

Oxford University academic Professor Dawkins told his 600,000 Twitter followers on Tuesday: ‘Like Alexandria, like Bamiyan, Timbuktu’s priceless manuscript heritage destroyed by Islamic barbarians.’

But his comments were criticised, with some followers claiming he was unjustly attacking Islam and others saying he should be considering vandalism acts by Christians, reported the Daily Telegraph.

Muslim Twitter user ‘Shawa5i Al Nasseri’ from the United Arab Emirates said: ‘You call us barbarians, truly no respect’, before later adding: ‘How do you explain this “destroyed by Islamic barbarians?”’

 

 

Professor Dawkins responded to the comments by saying: ‘You mean you were one of those who burned the books in Timbuktu? No? I thought not. So I wasn’t calling you a barbarian was I.’

He also said to all of his followers: ‘I was calling Islamic barbarians barbarians’, adding: ‘By “Islamic barbarians” I mean those Muslims who are also barbarians. I do not of course mean all Muslims.’

Perched on a hillside amid the forests, streams and waterfalls of Syria’s Latakia province, the village of Beit Swelheh was once a place of harmony.

By day, Abo Mohamed al-Shokri, a Sunni resident of the village, would share lifts to work with his Alawite neighbours, and by night they would smoke shisha pipes together, sitting under starlit skies and listening to the call of the crickets.

“Before the war I had a brilliant relationship with my Alawite neighbours,” said Mr Shokri, 40. “We were very friendly to each other, and spent much time in each other’s homes”.

Gunmen targeted teachers, including six women and a man, working at an NGO-operated school.

SWABI: Seven teachers, six women and a man, working at an NGO-operated school were shot dead on Tuesday in Swabi, Express News reported.

The incident took place in Sher Afzal Banda area in Tehsil Chota Lahore, when unidentified gunmen targeted the teachers who had just exited the school building.

Earlier in December 2012, the office of an NGO in Muhallah Gulbahar in Swabi was destroyed when a bomb exploded near its building.

In recent months, a number of government and NGO offices as well as CD shops have been targeted by assailants in the relatively peaceful district. So far, police have been unable to arrest any culprit behind these incidents.

Suspected Islamic extremists attack Indian student in Germany

BERLIN (AP) – Police say an Indian student in Germany has been attacked and injured by suspected Islamic extremists who accosted him and demanded that he convert to Islam.

Police spokesman Frank Piontek said on Thursday that two attackers in the western German city of Bonn severely beat the 24-year-old and then slashed his tongue with a knife.

Police say the attackers walked up to the student in a city street late on Monday and demanded that he convert to Islam – then beat him up after he refused to do so.

The student, whose identity wasn’t given in line with German privacy rules, was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was released a day later.

Yes while Muslims are creating no-go zones, forcibly converting people on the street and endless lists of terror plots and planned abuses of liberal democracy, the German government is spending millions making sure that no ethnic German harms a single Muslim for any reason and any reason is likely to be a horrible one anyway, right?
