New Studies Show Severe Racial Discrimination at University of Wisconsin

From CEOUSA.ORG

Tuesday, 13 September 2011 (Madison, WI) Two studies released today by the Center for Equal Opportunity reveal severe discrimination based on race and ethnicity in undergraduate and law school admissions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with African Americans and Latinos given preference over whites and Asians.

The studies are based on data supplied by the schools themselves, some of which the university had refused to turn over until a lawsuit was filed by CEO and successfully taken all the way to the state supreme court. The studies were prepared by Dr. Althea Nagai, a research fellow at CEO, and can be viewed on the organization’s website, www.ceousa.org.

CEO president Roger Clegg will answer questions about the studies when they are formally released at a press conference today at 11:00 a.m. at the DoubleTree hotel in Madison—525 W. Johnson St.

The odds ratio favoring African Americans and Hispanics over whites was 576-to-1 and 504-to-1, respectively, using the SAT and class rank while controlling for other factors. Thus, the median composite SAT score for black admittees was 150 points lower than for whites and Asians, and the Latino median SAT score was 100 points lower. Using the ACT, the odds ratios climbed to 1330-to-1 and 1494-to-1, respectively, for African Americans and Hispanics over whites.

For law school admissions, the racial discrimination found was also severe, with the weight given to ethnicity much greater than given to, for example, Wisconsin residency. Thus, an out-of-state black applicant with grades and LSAT scores at the median for that group would have had a 7 out 10 chance of admission and an out-of-state Hispanic a 1 out of 3 chance—but an in-state Asian with those grades and scores had a 1 out of 6 chance and an in-state white only a 1 out of 10 chance.

CEO chairman Linda Chavez noted: “This is the most severe undergraduate admissions discrimination that CEO has ever found in the dozens of studies it has published over the last 15 years.” Chavez also noted: “The studies show that literally hundreds of students applying as undergrads or to the law school are rejected in favor of students with lower test scores and grades, and the reason is that they have the wrong skin color or their parents came from the wrong countries.”

Roger Clegg added: “The latest census figures have dramatically underscored that America is increasingly multiethnic and multiracial. In such country, is simply untenable for our institutions—including public universities—to engage in politically correct but divisive and unfair discrimination.”

The Center for Equal Opportunity recently joined an amicus brief challenging the use of racial preferences at the University of Texas, in a case for which review by the U.S. Supreme Court will be sought this week.

Some police officers are ‘barely literate because entry standards are so low’

Maybe it is time to actually get a working definition of what racism actually means, given it has become the RPG of words. For me, the racism of lower expectations pretty much defines racism. Treating a person differently and cruelly because they are of another group or treating them like a toy poodle are equally racist although certainly the latter might be preferable to the former, at least in the short run.

From The Daily Mail:

Some police officers are ‘barely literate’ because the educational standards required to join the service are so low, it was claimed last night.

Tom Winsor, the lawyer reviewing police conditions, said reading, writing and mathematical skills have fallen ‘significantly’ since the 1930s.

He suggested that the public could be at risk if poor academic skills damage the effectiveness of potentially vital evidence.

Criticism: Some police officers are 'barely literate' because the standard to join the police has become so low, a top lawyer claims (file picture)Criticism: Some police officers are ‘barely literate’ because the standard to join the police has become so low, a top lawyer claims (file picture)

Mr Winsor said criminal barristers sometimes ‘speak in contemptuous terms’ of the ‘barely literate’ quality of police evidence.

While checking and rewriting poor quality paperwork was increasing the cost and bureaucracy of policing.

And in an extraordinary aside, he added that two senior officers told him standards were lowered to help black and ethnic minority recruits. Continue Reading →

Two EDL members stabbed in pub

I have written before on the soft totalitarianism of selective enforcement and other tactics of the modern British state. This one has me especially concerned. Even the most ardent detractors of the EDL admit rapidly, that had a number of EDL members walked into a building and stabbed several Muslim radicals or activists merely because they were Muslim activists, it would be front page news all over the UK and probably all over the world with Iran leading the way.

Meanwhile, several EDL members were followed into a public space yesterday and stabbed by Muslims while they were drinking and socializing and there is practically nothing at all about it in the media. The account given below is, as I have been told, disgracefully inaccurate.

England, you have a problem. You were offered a choice. Defend your culture forcefully or suffer humiliation. You have chosen humiliation. I hope that works out for you. (Paraphrasing Sir Winston)

Here is a facebook posting on the events as the EDL saw it

From This is London:

Two men were seriously hurt when they were stabbed in clashes between the English Defence League and Muslim protesters after a 9/11 memorial service in London.

The two men are thought to have been on opposing sides during a pitched battle outside a pub in Edgware Road last night.

The groups staged rival protests outside the American Embassy in Grosvenor Squareduring a minute’s silence to mark the moment when the first hijacked plane hit New York’s World Trade Center 10 years ago.

About 100 activists from radical Islamist groups including Muslims Against Crusades set fire to a US flag while others shouted slogans including “USA terrorists”.

Sixty members of the far-Right group staged a counter demonstration and both groups then took part in an unplanned 90-minute march along Park Lane and Edgware Road toRegent’s Park Mosque.

A fight broke out outside the Tyburn pub in Edgware Road in which the two men were stabbed. More than 40 people were arrested during the day, 13 of them in connection with assaults during the brawl at about 6pm.

An eyewitness, who did not wish to be named, said: “There was a group of EDL guys drinking outside the pub when a large group of Muslims walked past. The EDL started hurling racist abuse at the Muslims who took offence. They got angry and were yelling back.

“Then the EDL guys picked up pub furniture and started throwing glasses and chairs and tables at the group in the street.

“It was chaos. At first it was just 10 EDL guys but that number quickly swelled to about 50 people.

“The police were on the scene really quickly. They separated the groups and just started arresting people.”

Earlier radical Islamists, including hate preacher Anjem Choudary, gathered in Grosvenor Square as families of British 9/11 victims prepared for a remembrance ceremony in the September 11 memorial garden.

A smaller group of Muslims staged a counter-demonstration nearby, holding up placards reading “Muslims Against Extremism” and “If You Want Sharia, Move To Saudi”

Vancouver hookah shops challenging city bylaw against public burning

This is one to watch. I will be very curious to see if the cultural sensitivities of Muslims will be observed and the laws will not apply to them, while the culture of Canadians who built this city and country, (you know the place, the one where millions of Muslims are willing to fly, boat, sneak, lie and in every manner possible from legal or not get into to live) will be ignored. Jut another example of why multiculturalism must not be actual policy. A jurisdiction cannot survive if there are different laws for different groups. It is the recipe for violent revolution.

I personally feel that all bar owners, restaurants and so on have the right to determine if smoking is allowed on their property or not and no, it is NOT public property. Bars are private property where certain members of the public are allowed to go. If a person breaks a leg they hold the owners responsible. If a person gets too drunk and has an accident on the way home the bartender and owner are sued. Another thing with which I disagree, but it is more proof that bars are private space.

Iranian Muslim social clubs should certainly have the right to smoke. At exactly the same time and place as sports bars do so Canadians can watch the hockey game, enjoy a beer and a cigarette if the owner of the bar allows it.

From The Vancouver Sun:

  • Vancouver hookah shops challenging city bylaw against public burningVancouver hookah shops challenging city bylaw against public burning

VANCOUVER – Two hookah shop owners are going to court to fight a Vancouver city bylaw they say will put them out of business.

Owners of the Ahwaz Hookah House on Georgia Street and Persia’s Smoke Shop on Davie Street are filing a charter challenge against a bylaw which prohibits the burning of any substance in public places, according to their lawyer.

In 2007, the province passed a law which banned the smoking of tobacco in public places, said the plaintiff’s lawyer, Dean Davison, in a news release.

The owners, both immigrants from Iran, switched from tobacco to a mixture of herbs, fruit and molasses, in order to comply with the new rules.

City officials weren’t satisfied, and passed a bylaw, also in 2007, which banned the smoking of “any substance” in public places, Davison said.

In 2009 the city issued fines against both businesses, Davison said in an email.

“We are fighting those fines.” he said. “If the bylaw is not changed they are out of business.”

Hookahs, according to Davison, are popular social and cultural hubs for many Muslims, who gather around the communal water pipe for discussion, and reflection. It becomes increasingly important during the holy month of Ramadan, when many Muslims come together at hookahs following post-sunset feasts, after days spent fasting.

The owners, which have operated their shops since 2005 and 1999 respectively, are scheduled to go to court late in the fall. They say their charter rights to cultural freedom have been infringed by the bylaw.

Davison said he hopes Vancouver mayor and council will acknowledge the importance of his clients’ cultural traditions before the legal battle ensues.

Eye witness account of the attack on the EDL bus

Below, a very interesting comment from this site:

I live on Mile End Road, the bus carrying the EDL supporters was attacked literally right outside my window. I had to watch in fear and horror as hundreds (there were far more than 100) local Asian children threw missiles, heard foul abuse and attempted to attack the coach. At no point did I see or hear anything provocative from the EDL members on the bus. They were obviously arrested for their own safety and to quell the bloodlust of this rabid mob. There were at least 200 police in riot gear, my road was cordoned off, and it was an extremely intimidating atmosphere… not just for the public but also for the police. I witnessed with my own eyes a gang of weedy Muslim children who couldn’t punch there way out of a wet paper bag individually, verbally abusing and threatening the police.. in fact picking out a female officer for special treatment. I was very anti-EDL and BNP not so long ago. But when it is on your door step, in your face, it is a different story. Some EDL members will inevitably be racist morons. More still will be unable to articulate themselves clearly… after all they are uneducated and working class. But Tommy Robinson is absolutely correct, he is a political prisoner of the state, and everybody who cherishes this country and OUR traditions should support him. The fact that no Muslims were arrested on Mile End Road says two things first of all the political pressure on the police to treat the EDL as criminals and secondly the great difficulties of making any arrests… These animals run in packs and make it very dangerous for an officer to apprehend one except in large numbers. I even watched one group with my own eyes approach an officer on his own to tell him they were going to get ‘tooled up’.

‘You ain’t seen me, right!’ High Street Gaddafi dummy cheers shoppers… but police fail to see the funny side and order owner to take it down

More and more evidence of the growing totalitarianism trend in England today. This time, they didn’t even have the flimsy excuse of a complaint.

When a party shop owner put a mannequin dressed as Colonel Gaddafi on the run in his doorway, he thought passers-by would see the funny side of it.

But two heavy-handed PCSOs marched into the store – and told staff to take down because it was ‘offensive’.

The mock-Gaddafi – dressed in bright pink tights and clutching a sign which read ‘you ain’t seen me right’ – was meant as a light-hearted prank.

Owner Peter Tooley never dreamed that his store would be accused of stirring up tensions.

Secret files: Labour lied over Gaddafi… who warned of a holy war if Lockerbie bomber Megrahi died in Scotland

You know, Shakespeare wrote the following about England:

This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,—
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.

and below, something he wrote about Rome. Frankly, the second seems more fitting for the first at this time.

O, pardon me, thou bleeding piece of earth,
That I am meek and gentle with these butchers!
Thou art the ruins of the noblest man
That ever lived in the tide of times.
Woe to the hand that shed this costly blood!
Over thy wounds now do I prophesy,
--- Which, like dumb mouths, do ope their ruby lips,
To beg the voice and utterance of my tongue ---
A curse shall light upon the limbs of men;
Domestic fury and fierce civil strife
Shall cumber all the parts of Italy;
Blood and destruction shall be so in use
And dreadful objects so familiar
That mothers shall but smile when they behold
Their infants quarter'd with the hands of war;
All pity choked with custom of fell deeds:
And Caesar's spirit, ranging for revenge,
With Ate by his side come hot from hell,
Shall in these confines with a monarch's voice
Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war;
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men, groaning for burial.

The startling extent to which Labour misled the world over the controversial release of the Lockerbie bomber is exposed today in top-secret documents obtained by The Mail on Sunday.

In public, senior Ministers from the last Labour Government and the Scottish First Minister have repeatedly insisted that terminally ill Abdelbaset Al Megrahi was freed on compassionate grounds in a decision taken by Scottish Ministers alone.

But the confidential papers show that Westminster buckled under pressure from Colonel Gaddafi, who threatened to ignite a ‘holy war’ if Megrahi died in his Scottish cell.

And despite repeated denials, the Labour Government worked frantically behind the scenes to appease Gaddafi’s ‘unpredictable nature’.

As recently as last month, a spokesman for Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond was insisting: ‘The decision was taken on the basis of Scots law and was not influenced by economic, political or diplomatic factors.’

Equally damaging, the documents also suggest that as well as sharing intelligence-gathering techniques, Britain gave Libya hundreds of suggested questions for Islamic militants detained in Libya in 2004.

This will inevitably cause widespread dismay because of the regime’s systematic use of torture during interrogation.

A huge police presence for an event not worthy of reportage on any major TV in the UK

As one of Vlad’s best tipsters in the UK points out, there was a massive massive police presence and no shortage of selective enforcement of the law, and even, from what I have been hearing, new laws being invented just to selectively enforce against the EDL, there seems to be a hell of a lot of cops for an event that is not on SKY news or the BBC today.

Interesting. Clearly the British government is using totalitarian measures (where totalitarianism means controlling the press, controlling what ideas are acceptable and which not and taking over aspects of life best not under the control of Government in a free society) and expanding those measures as well as increasing the frequency of their use.

Interesting how quickly a government which is a the mother of all parliaments can get comfortable with the very measures they fought against during the cold war for decades. The price of freedom truly is eternal vigilance and, I’m sorry to say, that the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of patriots from time to time. How do I know this? Because I am willing to bet those last two statements are probably illegal or at least will have me put on a list for republishing here.

I had to do something. The original BBC clip is here in its entirety. I have not edited any of it out whatsoever but I have edited in my own comments, text and clips showing how they may have selectively used footage to create a false impression accidentally or otherwise.

Silencing dissent

The public discussion in Northern Europe that followed the Utøya-massacre in Norway has been characterized by attempts to silence the political opposition.  The popular opinion among the political left in Northern Europe is that Anders Behring Breivik’s monstrosities are a result of toxic and contagious hate speech which led him to murder 77 people.

The past month has witnessed a birth of a new age which is suggestive of a Kafkaesque spirit in Nordic political discourse. The accusers are pointing fingers at people whose names appear in Breivik’s manifesto and in other dubious forums, mainly online. The accused can only fight the accusations by claiming that they cannot control when and where their names appear.

One of the first victims of the new zeitgeist was Jussi Halla-aho a Finnish MP for the The Finns, and whose name appears in Breivik’s 1,500-page manifesto. This led the party secretary of the Social Democratic Party, Mikael Jungner, to demand that Halla-aho resign from his post as the chairman of the parliament’s administration committee.

The chairman of the Left Alliance and the current culture minister of Finland, Paavo Arhinmäki accused many of his fellow MP’s of quietly tolerating hate speech. He added that in the case of the massacre in Norway, “silence is a sign of approval”.

In the light of these comments, it is interesting to note that Arhimäki has been at the forefront of bringing football hooliganism to Finland which is arguably one of the most violent and hateful sub-cultures in Europe.  Arhinmäki was also one of the organizers of Smash Asem and was arrested during a violent demonstration.  The sole purpose of the demonstration was to wreak havoc in Helsinki.

Whether sports or politics, minister Arhinmäki has been one of the protagonists of organized hate speech.

UK riots: The end of the liberals’ great moral delusion

The Telegraph:

The Left has gone into overdrive in its attempts to rewrite the history of the riots, but the public knows the truth.

9:00PM BST 20 Aug 2011

There is no national debate about the epidemic of riots and looting that spread through our cities like a bush fire. Out there in the real world, where people go about the normal business of life, there is no sign of the heated argument that the media is so determined to air. In fact, I cannot remember a time when there has been such crushing unanimity on a matter of public importance: the answers to the questions of why this happened, what went wrong when it began to happen and what needs to follow in its aftermath are considered so blindingly self-evident as to be beyond rational disagreement.

At the margins of this consensus, there are some distant noises off. They are the desperate cries of those who fear that they have lost the argument of a lifetime and who want to persuade the great mass of the population that what it saw before its own eyes, hour by hour, night after night on the television news channels was something else altogether.

The Left-liberal camp is in overdrive in its campaign to rewrite history (or, in its own vocabulary, to alter consciousness): you did not see thousands of jubilant thugs rampaging through the streets, destroying livelihoods and property for the sheer exultant joy of it. What you saw were society’s victims responding to any or all of the following: bankers’ bonuses, MPs cheating on their expenses, unemployment, government spending cuts, poverty, social inequality, etc, etc. Their crimes were simply part of the same package of callous selfishness displayed by (as one particularly bizarre equation had it) tabloid phone hackers.

What is not ludicrous and insulting to common sense in these propositions is contradictory in its own terms. There are indeed views of the human condition which hold that all species of wickedness are connected, because they are all rooted in the fact that man is a fallen creature. But somehow I doubt that the ardent liberal secularists who were piping up last week were believers in original sin or the machinations of the Devil.

The moral equivalence that they wanted to establish between looters and arsonists on the one hand, and the perpetrators of any other kind of bad behaviour you can think of on the other, was rooted in ideological, not theological, orthodoxy. The rioting gangs could not simply be what they seemed – what they so obviously were – because that would be a devastating victory for the judgment of popular opinion over the fantasies of liberalism. ‘Witch-finders already have their sights on me’: David Starkey hits back after causing race storm with Newsnight outburst

  • Writer describes reaction to his Newsnight riot comments as ‘hysterical’

Historian David Starkey has defended his controversial outburst on Newsnight which sparked a racism storm following the riots – by protesting that the subject of race has become unmentionable.

The writer and broadcaster was condemned for commenting on Newsnight that ‘whites have become black’, while appearing to blame the disorder on black ‘gangsta’ culture.

Hitting back at his detractors, he said the reaction to his remarks had been hysterical.

‘We will not continue, I think, to tolerate being lied to and cheated in the matter of race,’ he wrote in the Daily Telegraph. ‘Instead of ‘not in front of the children’, we want honesty.’

The historian’s original comments prompted hundreds of complaints, with the BBC saying viewers felt his contribution to the programme was ‘inappropriate and racially offensive’.

But Starkey told the newspaper: ‘I thought my appearance on Newsnight was supposed to be part of a wide-ranging discussion about the state of the nation.

‘Central to any such discussion, it seems to me, are the successes and failures of integration in Britain in the past 50 years. And it was these that I was trying to address.’

Admitting that his friends agreed his greatest error was mentioning former politician Enoch Powell, whose 1968 Rivers of Blood speech attacked immigration, he added that a legacy of the reaction to Powell had been ‘an enforced silence on the matter of race’.

He wrote: ‘The subject has become unmentionable, by whites at any rate. And any breach has been punished by ostracism and worse.

Questions raised on the modus of the Norwegian police during the slaughter

This is a peculiar one. Several videos have appeared recently that call into question the modus operandi of the Norwegian police during that terrorist attack they had recently in Oslo as well as on that Island. The video below is from a citizen who filmed some of what was going on there. Pay special attention to where the police boat turns around and the Norwegian law enforcement decides to pick another place to land much farther away and lenghtnening the response time as well as costing the deaths of more people at the socialist camp where the shooting took place.

I can’t help but wonder if this is connected in policy to the British police, who now very overtly have a system where police do not put themselves in danger for the British public but instead, wait till it’s all over, presumably to guarantee the safe filling out of insurance reports once the corpses are all cold.

I believe it was Mark Steyn who recently said something like, “The British police now enforce all aspects of British life except actual crime” Truly the sign of a senile civilization. More on that in a future post.
