The West overlooks potential best ally against al-Qaeda

By Andrea Loquenzi Holzer, Hudson-NY.org

With the formation of a new provisional government of the Algerian region of Kabylie, the Western world might have gained a precious ally to fight al-Qaeda in one of its most strategic hideouts. If only someone noticed that this government was established in the first place.

What the Movement for the Autonomy of Kabylie [MKA] has been protesting is the Islamization of their society that the Algerian government was imposing, and particularly the introduction of Arabic as the official language of the country.

As the President of the Islamic Salvation Front (FIS), Ali Belhadj, stated in the 19990s: “There is no democracy because the only source of power is Allah through the Koran, and not the people. If the people vote against the law of God, this is nothing other than blasphemy. In this case, it is necessary to kill the non-believers for the good reason that they wish to substitute their authority for that of God.”

The official Algerian government seemed not to have problems with such statements, at least up until the FIS and other radical Islamist movements started to gain ground to the detriment of the National Liberation Front Party (FNL), at the general elections that were subsequently shut down by the authorities for fear of loosing control over the country (1991). The rivalry between the Algerian army (which took control of the government) and the Islamist movements, not only lead up to an eleven year-long bloody civil war, but also to an unsustainable situation for normal citizens and especially for Kabyles, who were already being discriminated by the authorities for their “different”(Berber) identity.

After changing the Algerian constitution to grant himself more power, and eliminating presidential term limits through a much debated referendum, on April 9, 2009, the Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika was confirmed in office for the third time on April 9, 2009, in what many called a “disputed election.” Although for the OECD this election was “fair,” many Algerian parties boycotted it.

The independent government of Kabylie, a mountainous region situated in the north of Algeria, was therefore formed in Paris on June 1st, in an attempt to contravene the influence of the Algerian national government. The formation of the new Kabyle cabinet did not get much attention across the media, but it could mark a defining moment in the struggle against radical Islam, given the fact that the MKA is certainly far more pro-Western than its official counterpart. Three al-Qaeda suspects arrested in Norway over bomb plot

From The Telegraph

Officials believe they were planning attacks with portable but powerful bombs like the ones at the heart of last year’s thwarted suicide attack in the New York City subway. The three men had been under surveillance for a year.

Officials said the group had been attempting to make peroxide bombs, but that it was not clear whether the men had selected a target.

The Norway plot was allegedly organised by Salah al-Somali, al-Qaeda’s former chief of external operations, the man in charge of plotting attacks worldwide. He was killed by a CIA drone last year. Continue Reading →

Al Qaeda’s First English Language Magazine Is Here

By Marc Ambinder, The Atlantic Wire

As the U.S. struggles to manage its efforts to influence opinion about Al Qaeda abroad, Al Qaeda on the Arabian Peninsula has produced its first English-language propaganda magazine.

It’s called “Inspire,”  and you can read parts of it below. A U.S. official said early this morning that the magazine appears to be authentic.

“Inspire” includes a “message to the people of Yemen” directly transcribed from Ayman Al-Zawahari, Al Qaeda’s second in command, a message from Osama Bin Laden on “how to save the earth,”  and the cover includes a quotation from Anwar Al-Awlaki, the American born cleric who is believed to be directly connected to the attem

pt to destroy an airplane over Detroit by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab on Christmas Day. (The director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Michael Leiter, made that disclosure at a security forum in Aspen, CO, Fox News reported.)

The table of contents teases an interview with the leader of AQAP who promises to “answer various questions pertaining to the jihad in the Arabian Peninsula.”  It includes a feature about how to “make a bomb in the kitchen of your mom.” Continue Reading →

Human remains are STILL being found at Ground Zero: Nine years on, 72 remains found under debris

From The Daily Mail

A renewed search of debris in and around the World Trade Centre site has recovered 72 human remains, New York City officials have said.
The chilling discovery comes nearly nine years after the horrifying attacks on September 11, 2001.
The sifting of more than 800 cubic yards of debris recovered from Ground Zero and underneath roads around the lower Manhattan site began in April and ended on Friday.
The greatest number of remains – 37 – were found from material underneath West Street, a highway on the west side of Ground Zero.

A renewed search of debris in and around the World Trade Centre site (pictured) has revealed 72 human remains
The new debris was uncovered as construction work made new parts of the site accessible.
The city began a renewed search for human remains in 2006, with more than 1,800 remains recovered so far.
Some have been matched to previously unidentified September 11 victims. Continue Reading →

25 Saudi Guantanamo prisoners return to jihad

25 Saudi Guantanamo prisoners return to militancy

EDTRIYADH (Reuters) – Around 25 former detainees from Guantanamo Bay camp returned to militancy after going through a rehabilitation program for al Qaeda members in Saudi Arabia, a Saudi security official said on Saturday.

The United States have sent back around 120 Saudis from the detention camp at the U.S. naval base in Cuba, set up after the U.S. launched a “war on terror” following the September 11 attacks by mostly Saudi suicide hijackers sent by al Qaeda.

Saudi Arabia, the world’s top oil exporter, has put the returned prisoners along with other al Qaeda suspects through a rehabilitation program which includes religious re-education by clerics and financial help to start a new life.

The scheme, which some 300 extremists have attended, is part of anti-terrorism efforts after al Qaeda staged attacks inside the kingdom from 2003-06. These were halted after scores of suspects were arrested with the help of foreign experts.

Around 11 Saudis from Guantanamo have gone to Yemen, an operating base for al Qaeda, while others have been jailed again or killed after attending the program, said Abdulrahman al-Hadlaq, Director General of the General Administration for Intellectual Security overseeing the rehabilitation.

Khadr son charged with sexual assault

The Khadr’s, Canada’s First Family of Terror, are a despicable lot. Not a year goes by without one of them appearing on the front pages, living out their Islamist customs and traditions. This time it’s Abdulkareem Khadr, the son of patriarch Ahmed, who was killed in a firefight near the Afghanistan/Pakistan border. Abdulkareem was left paralyzed from a bullet to his spine in this same firefight and after returning to Canada, now finds himself charged with sexual assault of a minor.

Abdulkareem Khadr in 2008. Khadr, partially paralyzed after a firefight in Pakistan, is facing charges of sexual assault

Stewart Bell, National Post · Tuesday, Jun. 15, 2010

TORONTO — The partially paralyzed son of the late Canadian al-Qaeda associate Ahmed Said Khadr has been arrested in Toronto for alleged sexual exploitation of a minor.

Abdulkareem Ahmed Khadr, 21, was arrested 10 days ago by Toronto Police and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 15.

“He has been charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation,” Constable Tony Vella, a police spokesman, said on Monday. The alleged victim was a minor but is now 18 years of age, Const. Vella said.

Reached at the family apartment on Monday, Mr. Khadr said: “Don’t worry about it. I’m pretty sure the law is going to do what it’s supposed to do.”

The arrest is the latest chapter in the saga of the Khadrs, Canadian citizens who once lived in the same compound as Osama bin Laden but fled Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban in 2001.

The family patriarch, Amhed Khadr, crossed into Pakistan, where he was killed in a shootout with Pakistani security forces in 2003. His son Omar is at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, accused of killing a U.S. soldier.

Another son, Abdullah, is in Toronto awaiting extradition to the United States, where he has been charged with smuggling weapons to the Taliban and al-Qaeda, while son Abdurahman has said his father tried to recruit him to become a suicide bomber.

The fifth of six Khadr children, Abdulkareem, who was born in Pakistan, was present when his father was killed near the Afghanistan border. Then 14, Abdulkareem took a bullet to the spine and is paralyzed from the waist down.

He returned to Toronto in 2004 using an emergency passport issued by the Canadian government. At the time, Stockwell Day, then an opposition MP and now International Trade Minister, said the Khadrs had lost the right to call themselves Canadians.

“They’ve expressed their allegiance to the principles of al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden,” Mr. Day said. “That alone should be grounds to have their citizenship revoked.”

The mother denies the family has ties to al-Qaeda.

In 2006, Abdulkareem turned up in Brampton, Ont., to watch bail hearings for the Toronto 18 terrorists who plotted truck bomb attacks in southern Ontario. Two years later, he took part in a protest outside the United States consulate in Toronto to call for the release of his brother Omar.

On Monday, Abdulkareem said he was arrested at a police station in suburban Scarborough on June 4. “I went to go see what they were talking about, talk to them and that’s it,” he said. “They gave me the papers and whatnot and that’s it, they let me go.”

Mr. Khadr said he was unsure whether he would have to appear in court next month. “I might not need to appear, I might need to appear, it doesn’t matter,” he said. Asked if he meant the case might be resolved or the charges dropped before that date, he said, “yes.”

His sister Zaynab said she was unaware of any charges.

“He hasn’t been charged with anything, if there was any charges believe me I’d know about it,” she said on Monday. “I don’t know about any of that and believe me I would have known, I have a minor in the house.”

Kuwaiti Journalist: The Flotilla Was Violent; Israel Has a Right to Defend Itself

In a June 3, 2010 article in the daily Al-Watan, Kuwaiti journalist ‘Abdallah Al-Hadlaq supported Israel’s decision to stop the Gaza flotilla, saying that the outcome of the Israeli navy’s operation was “in direct proportion to the violence” of the flotilla activists, and that the flotilla organizers are known to have ties with global and regional terror organizations.

The following are excerpts:[1]

“The Weapons had Clearly been Prepared in Advance… and the Soldiers had No Nhoice but to Respond”

“The Israeli navy gave repeated warnings to the ships [of the flotilla], which tried to break the blockade on the terroristic Hamas movement in Gaza, and also invited them to enter the Ashdod port and unload their cargo of ‘aid’ supplies, so it could be thoroughly examined by the security [forces] before being delivered by land to the Gaza Strip. When the flotilla failed to heed these warnings and requests, the Israeli navy had no choice but to take over the ships. [In doing so], the IDF troops encountered violent [opposition] that had been planned in advance: the flotilla participants assaulted them with firearms, metal pipes, knives and clubs, and grabbed the rifle of one of the soldiers. The weapons had clearly been prepared in advance… and the soldiers had no choice but to respond, including with live fire. Continue Reading →

Two N.J. men arrested at JFK airport before boarding plane to join Islamist terrorist group, authorities say

NEWARK — Two New Jersey men intent on killing American troops were arrested Saturday as they boarded flights to link up with a virulent jihadist group in Somalia, authorities said.

The men, both North Jersey residents, were charged with conspiring to commit an act of international terrorism through a group tied to Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda network, according to officials familiar with the details of the arrests.

Mohamed Hamoud Alessa, 20, of North Bergen, and Carlos Eduardo “Omar” Almonte, 24, of Elmwood Park were apprehended at John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens before they could board separate flights to Egypt, where they were to start journeys to Somalia. The men were arrested by teams of state and federal law-enforcement agents who have been investigating the pair since October 2006, according to the officials, who requested anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the operation publicly.

Late Saturday night, the state homeland security agency confirmed a police action at the airport but gave few details.

“Two individuals were arrested at JFK in connection with an ongoing investigation. At this time, we can provide no further details because the investigation is ongoing. The arrests do not relate to an immediate threat,” said Jose Lozano, a spokesman for the state Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness.

U.S. Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Rebekah Carmichael issued a similar statement just after midnight, , saying “the arrests do not relate to any known immediate threat to the public or active plot against the United States.” Continue Reading →

PICKTHAL: Let not the believers take disbelievers for their friends in preference to believers. Whoso doeth that hath no connection with Allah unless (it be) that ye but guard yourselves against them, taking (as it were) security.

Let not the believers take the disbelievers as patrons – — unless you protect yourselves against them, as a safeguard (tuqa-tan, ‘as a safeguard’, is the verbal noun from TAQIYYAtan), that is to say, [unless] you fear something, in which case you may show patronage to them through words, but not in your hearts: this was before the hegemony of Islam and [the dispensation] applies to any individual residing in a land with no say in it

(Let not the believers take) – – (disbelievers) – – (for their friends) – – (unless (it be) that ye but guard yourselves against them) save yourselves from them, (taking (as it were) security) saving yourselves from them by speaking in a friendly way towards them with, while your hearts dislikes this.

“Speaking is a means to achieve objectives. If a praiseworthy aim is attainable through both telling the truth and lying, it is unlawful to accomplish through lying because there is no need for it. When it is possible to achieve such an aim by lying but not by telling the truth, it is permissible to lie if attaining the goal is permissible.” (Ahmad ibn Naqib al-Misri, The Reliance of the Traveller, translated by Nuh Ha Mim Keller, amana publications, 1997, section r8.2, page 745)

The UK and Islamist Terror: Conservatives Putting the Nation at Risk?

By A. Millar, The Brussels Journal

Nearly a month into Britain’s new coalition government and perhaps the defining image of Prime Minister David Cameron shows him strolling casually along Westminster, without security, mingling with the crowd. At other times he has eschewed his motorcade, and sent away his police motorbike escort. We – and perhaps more especially those who despise Britain – are supposed to believe that he is a man of the people. He is like us, and we are like him. In the cold light of day, however, Cameron’s actions reveal only that he is disconnected from reality:

Lest we forget, Cameron is the leader of a wartime nation – a nation fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq, and facing terrorism at home.

Islamist terrorists have often stepped up their activity during the first twelve months of a new government, and there has already been some activity since the May 6 election. In what is now being treated as a terrorist attack, the Labour MP for East Ham, Stephen Timms, was stabbed by a Muslim woman, who had been “radicalized.” Since then, the names of four other MPs have been discovered on a terrorist hit list, and security for all MPs has been put under review.
