To reach the heart of HM Prison Belmarsh is a bleak and time-consuming process. It means a thorough search at the gate, the issuing of a special biometric identity card, and a long, repetitive journey through successive electronic gates in the vast, brick-built perimeter and concentric layers of razor-wire fence. It is a journey down long, harshly echoing corridors to the centre of a maximum-security onion.

It is also an education in the technology of control – from control rooms linked to CCTV cameras scanning every cranny to the special BOSS (Body Orifice Security System) chairs that will sound an alarm if the person sitting in them has hidden a forbidden item – for example, a mobile phone – inside them.

It is at once unnerving and reassuring – reassuring because Belmarsh houses some of the most dangerous men in Britain.

A Muslim prisoner prays in his cell. Nearly one in five prisoners at Belmarsh now claims Muslim allegianceA Muslim prisoner prays in his cell. Nearly one in five prisoners at Belmarsh now claims Muslim allegiance

One of them is Abu Hamza, Britain’s least-loved prisoner. The one-eyed, hook-handed extremist Muslim preacher has been at the high-security prison for the past eight years.

He might well be leaving soon. He has already served a sentence for inciting terrorism and racial hatred and the European Court of Human Rights on Monday cleared the way for his long-pending deportation to America, where he faces further charges of involvement in a murder plot. (On Wednesday Hamza made an application against his extradition, the High Court temporarily barred it and his appeal is due to be outlined at a hearing early next week.)

Even while incarcerated, he is said to have tried to disseminate his poisonous message, both inside and outside the jail.

Few staff at the South-East London prison will mourn his departure, but the problem he came to symbolise will remain. To use Whitehall jargon, when Hamza leaves, about 110 ‘AQI’ (Al Qaeda-influenced) ‘TACT’ (Terrorism Act) prisoners will remain here and at other British prisons. Some of the hundreds of other Muslim inmates in our highest-security jails revere these figures and they are widely feared.

Canada, Australia and Britain have joined the U.S. in warning their citizens of a possible security threat in the Philippines.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT), the U.S. Embassy in Manila said on Friday that “a threat against American citizens in metropolitan Manila, specifically the Pasay City neighbourhood, had been detected by reliable security forces.’

The U.S. Embassy said the threat was in effect until Oct. 10.

The DFAIT says Canadians should be extremely vigilant when travelling in Manila and other parts of the Philippines.

ims ramadan

SUMMARY

In September 2012, the Inter-Masajid Shura (IMS) sponsored Tariq Ramadan’s visit to Edmonton: a sure sign of ideological links between IMS and the Muslim Brotherhood network. This report focuses on financial links between IMS and the Brotherhood. Five charts describe the money transfers between IMS entities and well-established MB organizations.

SECTION 1 – Tariq Ramadan and Zakir Naik invited by Edmonton-based Inter-Masajid Shura

In July 2011, Ramadan advocated a Muslim colonization of the United States in front of supporters in Dallas. In 2004, in an Egyptian periodical, Ramadan advised the Muslim Brotherhood operatives in Canada to push for an implementation of sharia by taking full advantage of the Canadian legal framework (“one of the most open in the world”, in his own words). In 2010, IMS invited Zakir Naik to address its supporters. Naik justifies terrorism and pleads for the killing of those who leave Islam.

SECTION 2 – Nine organizations belonging to the Inter-Masajid Shura identified in a WISE newsletter

SECTION 3 – Overview of Hamas and Human Concern International, the two main beneficiaries of IMS’ money transfers

Obama to Release One Third of Gitmo Inmates

 Breitbart:

President Barack Obama is about to release or transfer 55 Gitmo prisoners, despite reports that the Libyan believed to be behind the killing of US Ambassador Christopher Stevens was a former Guantanamo inmate transferred to Libyan custody.

The large percentage of those scheduled to be released are Yemeni, according to a list made public by the Obama administration.

Obama stopped the release or transfer of Yemeni inmates in 2010, because the conditions in the country were viewed as too “unsettled” at the time.

It was at least the fourth cross-border attack in just over a year, underscoring deep Israeli concerns about the security situation in the Sinai peninsula since the ousting of Egypt’s former president Hosni Mubarak in 2011.

“A big terror attack was thwarted,” Israeli army spokesman Lt-Col Avital Leibovich said.

“Three terrorists infiltrated from Sinai into Israel and opened fire towards IDF soldiers guarding the border. The terrorists were well armed and carried explosive belts upon their bodies,” she added.

Leibovich said she did not have any information on the identity or affiliation of the gunmen. Previous attacks were blamed on Palestinian militants from the Gaza Strip and their supporters, who have allegedly established bases in the Sinai.

An Egyptian security source said one of the gunmen died when a bomb he was carrying detonated and the other two were killed in a gun battle with Israeli forces. He added that the nationalities of the gunmen were not immediately clear.

Special Branch interpreter ‘with links to Islamic extremists’ sues Home Office after he was suspended for five years on full pay then sacked

Daily Mail:

  • Claims he was only suspected of associating with terrorists due to his race and Muslim religion

An immigration officer accused of having links to Iraqi terrorists was suspended on full pay for five years after the Home Office sacked him for being a risk to national security.

The Arabic interpreter, who helped Special Branch interview terror suspects, had his security clearance removed a month after returning from a year-long sabbatical in his native Yemen

The 44-year-old claims he was only suspected of associating with terrorists due to his race and Muslim religion and is suing the Home Office for discrimination and unfair dismissal.

Egypt arrests man after nail bomb attack on German embassy

Found at Jihad Watch

From Reuters:

(Reuters) – Police in Egypt on Wednesday arrested a man who tossed four homemade nail bombs into the German embassy grounds and attacked the entrance with a hammer but injured nobody and caused no serious damage, the embassy and security sources said.

The man acted out of anger after reading an Egyptian newspaper report on Friday which described a protest by German right-wing activists who had paraded caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad in front of a German mosque, they said.
