EPA cleans up radioactive material in Boise apartment

A man has been shot dead in Melbourne’s southeast after reportedly making threats against Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

News Corp Australia reports a Victoria police officer and Australian Federal Police agent were stabbed by an 18-year-old man in a car they pulled over outside the Endeavour Hills police station yesterday evening.

It reports that a Victorian police officer shot dead the alleged attacker.

News Corp reports the dead man was a person of interest in a counter-terrorism operation and had been under surveillance.

There is intelligence that suggests the dead man had been waving an Islamic State flag.

Victoria Police say both officers are in a stable condition.

A man police called the ringleader of a group accused of plotting attacks in Canada has pleaded guilty to explosives possession with the intent to cause harm as part of a terrorist conspiracy, and received a 24-year sentence as part of an agreement.

 

Hiva Mohammad Alizadeh entered the plea in court in Ottawa on Wednesday under a deal agreed to by Crown and defence lawyers.

Alizadeh will receive a 24-year sentence, minus time served.

Posible bomb in large apartment building being investigated in Ottawa’s affluent Rockliffe Park

Rideau Terrace has re-opened after a suspicious package investigation at 200 Rideau Terrace.

Police say a tube with wires going through it was found, but was deemed to be harmless after it was checked out with an X-Ray. The lower floors of the building were evacuated and the road closed between Springfield Road and Lambton Avenue were closed as a precaution.

Residents of the building say a body was found in one of the lower-level apartments around 10 a.m. Sunday, and residents of the lower floors were told to leave the building in the afternoon.

Monique Lalonde, a resident of the building, said she heard disturbing screams around 10 a.m.

“Somebody was hurting or found something that they didn’t like,” she said. “I was in the bathroom and I ran to the balcony to see what was going on. We didn’t see anything except the police.”

Police wouldn’t confirm whether or not there was a death in the building.

firetrucks small-1Police have blocked off Rideau Terr. from Springfield all the way down to Putnam and evacuated the bottom two floors of an apartment building bordering Ottawa’s elite neighborhood of Rockliffe Park.

A police woman on the scene said that there was a suspicious package found at around noon EST. At 2:00 the bomb squad was still there and more area had been roped off by police tape.

Ottawa Police today appears to be doing an Anti-terror operation in the Muslim part of town

Police have closed part of an Ottawa street as a tactical team executes a search warrant in the city’s south end.

The tactical officers were joined on Topley Crescent on Friday by members of the police chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives unit.

Five homes were evacuated between Keys Way and Karsh Drive, and the public was being asked to avoid the area.

Police said the level of risk for this operation was high enough to warrant evacuating the immediate area for the safety of police officers and the community.
