Police have closed part of an Ottawa street as a tactical team executes a search warrant in the city’s south end.
The tactical officers were joined on Topley Crescent on Friday by members of the police chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives unit.
Five homes were evacuated between Keys Way and Karsh Drive, and the public was being asked to avoid the area.
Police said the level of risk for this operation was high enough to warrant evacuating the immediate area for the safety of police officers and the community.

Topley Crescent is near Hunt Club and Conroy roads, in the same neighbourhood where a man was shot twice in the legs Thursday night. Police would not say if the search warrant is related to the shooting or a different investigation.

Almost every Israeli worth his or her salt has military experience. They’re knowledgable and just love to argue strategies and tactics. That’s one thing they have in common.
We’re not talking Shin Bet or Mossad, after all.
