OTTAWA — Immigration Minister Jason Kenney is poised to slash federal funding to Canada’s largest Arabic group after its president called him a “professional whore” for supporting Israel.

In an exclusive interview with Sun Media from London, England, where he is to speak today at an international conference on anti-Semitism, Kenney said groups are free within legal bounds to say what they like. But groups whose leaders say intolerant or hateful things shouldn’t get taxpayer funding.

“We should not be rewarding those who express views that are contrary to Canada’s best liberal values of tolerance and mutual respect.”

One of those groups, said Kenney, is the Canadian Arab Federation whose president Khaled Mouammar called him a “professional whore” after Kenney criticized the presence of Hezbollah and Hamas flags at anti-Israel rallies in Toronto.

Kenney said the same group criticized Liberal MP Bob Rae because of his wife’s involvement in Canada’s Jewish community.

The federation received a $447,297 contribution from Kenney’s department to operate a settlement program in Toronto for two years, teaching new immigrants language and job searching skills.

HELP FOR NEWCOMERS

Kenney said he has already asked department officials to weigh comments made by groups when evaluating funding applications, and the comments made by the Arab Federation president will affect its contribution when the current one expires in March 2010.

Mouammar, however, says that Kenney’s decision will hurt newcomers to Canada, not just Arabs. Arabs make up only 5% of those who receive his group’s settlement services, which Mouammar said were among the best in the Toronto area. Mouammar said Kenney’s decision is “vindictive” and accused him of promoting Islamophobia internationally.

“This government is anti-Arab and anti-Muslim,” he said, adding the federal government has refused to meet with the Canadian Arab Federation or the Canadian Islamic Congress since Prime Minister Stephen Harper came to power.

In the interview and in his speech, Kenney was also critical of the Canadian Islamic Congress, saying its former president Mohamed Elmasry once tried to “legitimize the killing of all Israeli adults.”

Wahida Valiante, who succeed Elmasry as president of the CIC — which doesn’t get government funding — said Kenney misrepresented Elmasry’s comments on the world stage.

Kenney’s comments come as he is attending the meeting of the International Parliamentary Coalition to Combat Anti-Semitism. Kenney said the theme emerging from the meeting is the new and growing anti-Semitism around the world in the form of anti-Zionism.

This morning on the Steve Madely program on CFRA Feb 17th 2009 journalist Elizabeth Thompson of the National Bureau was interviewed concerning this story. She added that what sparked Jason Kenny to withdraw funding from these groups was the waving of Hamas and Hizbulah flags at various rallies in Toronto over the Israel Gaza conflict, (covered extensivly on Vlad) which indicated terrorist sympathies at the very least. Hamas and Hizbolah are both illegal terrorist organizations in Canada.

CNN: Alert issued for teddy bear bombs

Alert issued for potential teddy bear bombs

February 14, 2002 Posted: 4:47 AM EST (0947 GMT)

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) — The FBI has issued an alert to 350 law enforcement agencies in the southwest and Salt Lake City for potential Valentine teddy bear bombs after a suspicious transaction at a Wal-Mart last month.

Law enforcement sources said authorities also were on the alert at airports in case the suspected bear-bombs might be carried onto airplanes on Valentine’s Day.

The FBI said a clean-shaven male, possibly of Middle Eastern descent, purchased nine Valentine teddy bears, 20 inches tall, and 14 canisters of propane, 9 inches tall, small enough to fit inside the teddy bears. The man also bought 12 packets of BBs — small, round projectiles usually fired from air guns.

He paid in cash on January 15 at the Wal-Mart in Stevenson Ranch, California, about 25 miles north of Los Angeles. He left in a white GMC or Chevrolet delivery truck.

“After September 11, that purchase warrants that we take a closer look,” FBI spokesman Matthew McLaughlin said. Authorities were notified February 4, McLaughlin said.

Authorities emphasized that the man has committed no crime, but the purchase has raised suspicions and authorities want to question him about it.

At the same time, authorities want Americans to be on the lookout for suspicious packages on Valentine’s Day due to the level of concern over the purchase.

The man was captured on surveillance tape and his picture was included in the alert to law enforcement agencies.

Phyllis Chesler on Islam the west and global jihad

Jihad is fully upon the West, both by stealth and by more and more open displays of Islamic aggression, hatred, and violence. Free speech (which includes truth-telling and the right to self-defense), is under the most profound siege. The United Nations has long been lost, Europe, (at least England, Holland, and possibly France), have rapidly become dhimmi states. North America is-and has been-in the cross-hairs of jihadic desire.

The recent demonstrations, ostensibly about Gaza, turned into dangerous hatefests all across the country. University campuses have become increasingly dangerous for Jewish and other pro-Israel or anti-fascist, pro-democracy students. Just the other day in Toronto, a student wearing a kippah set off a huge riot among the highly Palestinianized student body which even the Toronto police could not put down.

India has also had to live with countless Muslim terrorist attacks before the Mumbai atrocity and with attacks against authors, such as Bangladeshi Taslima Nasrin, who had been granted asylum in an Indian city. (She is now, once again, living in Europe). A friend of mine who lives in another Indian city has been writing to me about the situation but feels she cannot afford to go public with her views or her information. I am saddened, appalled by her silence, but I do understand it. I am grateful that she immediately called my attention to the incredible fuss that a recent article written by Johann Hari in the English language Statesman has caused. Hari asks why religion cannot be criticized or rather why only some religions cannot be criticized. Unbelievably, by February 12th, the editors of the Statesmen who published Hari’s piece were arrested for “offending Islam.”

Domestic terror threat growing: RCMP

Canwest News Service Published: Thursday, February 12, 2009

Canadians should be concerned but should not overreact to news that more homegrown extremists and suspected terrorists are believed operating here than ever before, says the RCMP’s top national security officer. In his first in-depth interview since assuming command of the nascent National Security Criminal Investigations unit, Assistant Commissioner Bob Paulson said more terrorism arrests are expected in coming months. “The threat we’re facing today is as threatening as it’s ever been,” he said. Mr. Paulson said the increase in national security criminal cases — from 848 last May to an undisclosed but larger number now — is “marginal” and “nothing that people ought to be excessively worried about. That’s what we get paid to do.”

Ottawa. Anti semitism in schools causes school policy to accomodate

I received this story from someone who knows the teacher in it personally and am assured of the veracity of these described events. This is in Ottawa Canada not England and Not Scandinavia where we are already used to the idea of them being Muslim countries.

From Barbara Kay National Post:

In a story out of Surrey,  England February 6th, an angry headteacher is suing “gutless” education honchos for 100,000 pounds because they failed to support her against Muslim school bullies. The bullies were not children in the school yard, but a group of Muslim governors, appointed in 2003, that plaintiff Erica Connor claims took control of regular board meetings and pushed for a more religious agenda, including pressure on her to link up with the local mosque in order to focus on Muslim worship. When she resisted, she was labelled “racist and Islamophobic.” Rather than support her, her superiors branded her as “unresponsive to the needs of the faith community.” Connor says she is so depressed at having been made a “helpless scapegoat,” she may never work again.

Sadly, what seems to be a hijacking of a supposedly secular public school system by religious extremists has become a commonplace in Britain and Europe. The all too common response to the arrogance and aggression of Muslim exceptionalism in public institutions, most consequentially in schools, has been appeasement, and a disgraceful acquiescence to the kind of scapegoatism this teacher alleges.

Most Canadians probably believe that sort of thing can’t happen here. And yet when I read this story, I was immediately reminded, with something of a chill, of an eerily similar narrative I had read concerning a school in our nation’s capital. The details were different, but the basic problem – school officials backing down in the face of Muslim aggression against a teacher, and a subsequent acquiescence in the teacher’s victimization in order to avoid confrontation with religious expansionism – were the same.

I’ll call the Canadian teacher “Miriam,” not her real name. A Jewish child of Holocaust survivors, Miriam taught part time at a French-language high school in Ottawa from 2001-2004, a period she describes as “the worst years of my life.” The school was predominantly Muslim, the students principally from Djibouti and Eritrea.

Because Miriam was quite aware of the pervasive anti-Semitism amongst her students, she did not reveal she was Jewish. However, after her absence from school on the Jewish High Holidays, she was subject on a daily basis to overt anti-Semitic comments in the hallways, such as: “Does someone smell a Jew, does someone smell a stinking Jew?” Miriam of course complained to the principal and the vice-principal. According to Miriam, the principal said to her: “It seems that you divulged the fact that you are Jewish, so what do you expect?” It was left to Miriam to take mitigating tactics to avoid harassment.

CAIR Canada drops law suit against David Harris formerly of CSIS

You can find articles here on Vlad by David Harris and Right or wrong radio did an interview with Mr. Harris for nearly two hours which you can find through this link as well. His bio can be found at the end of this article here. Below please find the whole of the article by Mr. Harris on the law suit agianst him and its conclusion. Please read and think on this. If you are Canadian, I would especially ask you to consider this material carefully. This has real meaning and impact for the western world and Canada in particular.

INSIGNIS STRATEGIC RESEARCH INC.

PRESS RELEASE

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

24 APRIL 2006

ISLAMIC GROUP’S LAWSUIT AGAINST FORMER CSIS OFFICIAL IS DISMISSED

Statement by David B. Harris, Director

International and Terrorist Intelligence Program,

INSIGNIS Strategic Research Inc.

Ottawa, Canada

24 April 2006

The Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CAN), the Canadian chapter of the controversial Washington, DC-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), has recently issued a press release (attached) purporting to report the outcome of a defamation lawsuit in which I was a defendant. Readers are cautioned that the CAIR-CAN document is misleading in certain important respects.

CAIR-CAN and its then-Chair, Dr. Sheema Khan, sued Ottawa radio station CFRA and me for remarks I made as a regular CFRA national-security guest during an interview with host Mr. Steve Madely on 1 April 2004. At all relevant times, Mr. Riad Saloojee was Executive Director of CAIR-CAN. Dr. Khan and Mr. Saloojee have lately been replaced in their positions by Mr. Abdul-Basit Khan and Mr. Karl Nickner, respectively.

I believe implicitly in the accuracy of all that I said on the radio program. I have withdrawn not a word, and never shall. In the course of the interview I posed a question: Shouldn’t someone be looking into CAIR-CAN’s relationship with its more-troubling American relative, CAIR? For this, I was sued for libel.

In the spirit of openness and disclosure, INSIGNIS Strategic Research Inc. is making available, on request, relevant legal documents concerning this case, including an unofficial transcript of the interview in question. This is being done so that media and other concerned citizens may satisfy themselves firsthand about the important issues at stake in this matter.

As a commentator on national security affairs, my guiding principle throughout CAIR-CAN’s lawsuit was never to compromise hard-won rights of media and media commentators to their exercise of responsible free _expression under s. 2 of Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms. I viewed this as a responsibility at a time when Canadians in Afghanistan and elsewhere are dying for such rights, and when civil liberties must be vigorously defended at home. Through the dedication of my family and many committed civil libertarians, including courageous colleagues of Muslim background, we prevailed against CAIR-CAN and Dr. Khan. CAIR-CAN and Dr. Khan dropped their suit, cold. No damages, no costs, no apology, no clarification.

Comment on article by Tarek Fatah from the National Post.

This is a comment signed by Jim Heller on Tarek Fatah’s article dealing with the issue of the veil and Ontario courts. Tarek writes a soothing but logically invalid piece on the matter and there are many truly excellent comments written below it. I have also commented as vladtepesblog.com there as well. This I thought was an especially good piece and Jim if you are out there and read this let me know if you object to its republishing here and I will remove it immediately. If you do not, please consider contacting me. Perhaps you would like to write some articles for us here at Vlad.

You may want to read the original article on the National Post’s website before reading this, but the comment is excellent as a stand alone piece.

Eeyore.

Tarek, here’s what Wafa Sultan, a REAL heroine, has to say about Islam and women. You know she’s right, too, don’t you?:

“Islam Has Distorted the Concept of Honor”

Wafa Sultan: “If Islam really treated women with honor, we would see the positive consequences of that honor over the course of the past 14 centuries. Islam did not treat women with honor. On the contrary, it has distorted the concept of honor.

“My brother Rashid, I can call this pen a knife for 14 centuries, but it will never become a knife. It will remain a pen. Islam has turned these concepts upside-down, and has forced its followers to see things as their opposites – to view killing and beheading as an act of tolerance, to view taking a woman captive as an act of compassion, to view the plundering of spoils of war as their right, and to view masturbation against a little girl’s thighs as marriage.

“Thus, it has destroyed the intellectual structure of the Arabic-speaking nation, and has produced people who cannot distinguish between things and their opposites – people with distorted thinking and warped mentality, as infertile as barren land, which cannot yield a thing.

“The best proof of this is the reality of Islam. When the Prophet Muhammad married the child ‘Aisha, this was not an act of honor toward her childhood. When Muhammad married Zaynab, the wife of his adopted son, after seeing her naked and desiring her, this was not an act of honor toward married women. When Muhammad married the Jewish woman Safiya, upon his return from a raid in which he killed her father, brother, and husband, this was not an act of honor toward her. The same goes for all his marriages.”

“The Subjugation of Women Reduces Them to a Level Lower Than Beasts – Not to Mention the Laws of Inheritance, Testimony in Court, The Beating Of A Wife Who Refuses to Go to Bed With Her Husband, And ‘Honor’ Crimes”

“Accusing women of being ‘lacking in brains’ is not an act of honor toward her. Human beings – whether male or female – are the property of their Creator. No human being has the right to own another. The subjugation of women reduces them to a level lower than beasts – not to mention the laws of inheritance, testimony in court, the beating of a wife who refuses to go to bed with her husband, and ‘honor’ crimes.

“Muhammad said in a hadith: ‘Three things spoil one’s prayer: a woman, a black dog, and a donkey.’ Do they ever give this any thought? Do they realize that Allah chose the female body for his greatest invention – creation itself? Wouldn’t it be moral to bestow upon the female body a certain holiness, instead of viewing it as impure?” […]

“In my opinion, in the Arab countries in particular, you cannot say that the status of women has nothing to do with Islam. You cannot deny that there is a connection between the two. Islam is an all-embracing faith, which intervenes in the smallest details of a person’s life – beginning with the way he should enter the toilet, and ending with – excuse my language – the way he should wipe his behind.

Cheney warns of serious terrorist attacks

Here is a link to an interview with Dick Cheney who now feels free to talk about his decisions and the threat of terror, the new Obama administration who he believes does not understand the threat yet and and article about Mr. Cheney as well. This is well worth the time to read and to listen to the short interview with him. Below is an excerpt….

Cheney said “the ultimate threat to the country” is “a 9/11-type event where the terrorists are armed with something much more dangerous than an airline ticket and a box cutter – a nuclear weapon or a biological agent of some kind” that is deployed in the middle of an American city.

“That’s the one that would involve the deaths of perhaps hundreds of thousands of people, and the one you have to spend a hell of a lot of time guarding against,” he said.

“I think there’s a high probability of such an attempt. Whether or not they can pull it off depends whether or not we keep in place policies that have allowed us to defeat all further attempts, since 9/11, to launch mass-casualty attacks against the United States.”

Mr. Cheney also speaks about how waterboarding the three terrorists actually saved large numbers of civilian casualties. Something we know now from a number of sources. Take a few minutes and click here.

CAIR sues bank for refusing service.

This from the Montreal Muslim News. It’s crucial at this point that tolerance be properly defined. People have a right to their own religious observance but no one should be obliged to embrace accommodate or adjust to it. Should I choose to walk an elephant to celebrate my love of Ganesh, the Hindu Elephant god, this doesn’t mean I have the right to demand the city hire extra people to shovel up after it.

Grace, who has read the Employers Guide to Islamic religious practices linked to below, has this to add…

This guide is an outline to all American employers specific needs of American Muslims in the workplace. Definitions of holidays and festivals, dietary needs clothing obligations and prayer times are all included in the booklet. For example, when a Muslim employee is at prayer, he cannot be obligated to conduct any of his usual duties as an employee. The booklet specifies that his coworkers should not interupt him under any circumstances and should not take offense, (something Muslims seems to wish a monopoly on) to his absense during prayer time. As for participating in professional conduct in a corporate setting, Muslim employees are not encouraged to shake hands or when engaged in conversation are obligated to lower their gaze. In other words, not only must we accomodate all these factors, but we must not dislike the inconvinience. Its not just what they must be allowed to do, its how we must feel about it.

Additionally, there are other booklets outlining Islam’s specific needs to American and Canadian employers. Guides are given to educators, health care providers and correctional institutions, with a forthcoming manual to be given to the law enforcement community.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CAIR: Calif. Muslim Denied Service at Bank over Hijab
DOJ asked to investigate possible civil rights violations by bank officials

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 2/2/2009) – A prominent national Islamic civil rights and advocacy group today called on the U.S. Department of Justice to determine whether a California bank violated a Muslim woman’s civil rights when it denied her service because she was wearing a religiously-mandated head scarf, or hijab.

According to the woman, she was denied service Saturday at a Navy Federal Credit Union in San Diego, Calif., despite telling bank officials that she wears her head scarf for religious reasons.

In a statement, the bank said:

“‘In the interest of Security and Safety for our members and employees – hats, hoods and sunglasses must be removed when entering the branch office.’ Special consideration for cultural and religious garments is under the discretion of the branch management. Navy Federal is making inquiries into the recent incident.”

“Under this bizarre and discriminatory policy, no Muslim woman wearing a head scarf, no Sikh man wearing a turban, no Jewish man wearing a yarmulke, no Catholic nun wearing a habit, no cancer survivor wearing a scarf, no Amish woman wearing a bonnet, and no blind person wearing sunglasses may enter a Navy Federal Credit Union branch nationwide,” said CAIR-San Diego Public Relations Director Edgar Hopida. “We call on the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate this disturbing case and Navy Federal’s apparently unconstitutional policy and to ensure that the religious rights of all customers are maintained.”

Hopida said CAIR offers a booklet called “An Employer’s Guide to Islamic Religious Practices” to help corporate managers gain a better understanding of Islam and Muslims.

CAIR, America’s largest Islamic civil liberties and advocacy group has 35 offices and chapters nationwide and in Canada. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

More anti starbucks activities by the useful idiots of Islam

The city of Ottawa, capitol of Canada had a nice winter festival mostly for kids in a large public park on Feb. 2 2009. Starbucks was there to offer free hot apple cider and other drinks to children in the spirit of community relations and mostly just to add to the festive atmosphere of the event; Giving free drinks to kids, Hot chocolate apple cider and so on. A woman approaches and begins to plaster all of the large containers of drinks at the Starbucks with boycott stickers naming Starbucks as well as Coca cola and other well known corporations.

VTB has written before about the rumor mill and how Starbucks has received so many calls claiming that they fund the Israeli amred forces that they have issued memos to all stores saying how to handle this nonsense. We have seen in Europe how protesters have specifically targetted Starbucks for vandalism and destruction. I guess the leftists have decided that after a hard day of trashing Starbucks they like to go to McDonalds for a snack so have decided to stop trashing those franchises.

The manager asked her to stop and started taking down the stickers and the protester asked for them back telling him he wasn’t allowed to throw them out and she was going to ‘recycle’ them. She then informed the manager that Starbucks was funding the I.D.F and that they must be boycotted. She then stayed at the booth and tried to kill the fun of the festival for the kids by ranting on about Starbucks. Of course, the left really wants to destroy all large corporate entities as they see them and Islam wants to take our system down any way it can, and Starbucks which may have been started by a Jewish person is an enemy of Islamists for that reason alone. Typically Islam and the left collude for their one main common goal. The destruction of the west. It doesn’t matter to either of them that they have opposite visions for its remaking.

It would be wonderful if Leftists in the western world would study the revolution in Iran. Almost certainly they would not get the point. That Islam uses leftists as a tool to destroy societies and then promptly jail or murder their leftist allies. But it may make them experience a tiny bit of remorse that little bit faster when they ‘win’.

US government moves farther away from CAIR

Council on American Islamic Relations has now been indicted on some serious charges. Most readers of VTB probably already knew they where an ‘Al Taqyyia’ or ‘ lie to the infidel to advance johad’ organization but its awefuly nice to see that the feds know it now too.

Congress warned: ‘Beware of CAIR’
Takes cue after FBI cuts off Muslim group for terror ties

Rep. Sue Myrick, R-N.C.

Warning: Do not meet with representatives of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a “Dear Colleague” letter sent yesterday to every U.S. House member says.

The three-page letter, a copy of which was obtained by WND, warns legislators to “think twice” about meeting with CAIR officials due to mounting evidence the group is tied to terrorists.

FBI officials have been canceling planned outreach events with CAIR chapters across the country, following a recent directive by FBI headquarters to sever ties with the group.

“The FBI has cut ties with them,” the congressional letter says. “There are indications that this group has connections to Hamas,” the Palestinian terrorist group.

The letter, signed by five Republicans, including the head of the House Anti-Terrorism/Jihad Caucus, is attached to an article by IPT News, a counter-terrorism news service. It notes that FBI field offices have sent letters to CAIR chapters explaining they can no longer pursue an outreach relationship, because of concerns about the CAIR national office in Washington.

synagogue in Caracas attacked by approximately 15 people

Caracas synagogue vandalized
Venezuelan Jews alarmed by increasing anti-Semitism after vandals daub ‘Jews get out’ on synagogue walls

David Bitan, vice president of the Jewish community in Venezuela, told Ynet that late Friday night a number of assailants broke down the synagogue’s door and threw scripture books on the floor, then proceeded to graffiti the hateful slogans on the walls.

“We found the guard on the floor, he had been threatened with a gun,” Bitan said. “Until 3 am they destroyed the offices, opened the Ark of the Covenant, and threw the Torah books on the floor.”

He said the Jewish community had filed an official complaint with the police. “This is a very complicated situation for the Jews in Venezuela. The slogans were not against Israel but against the Jews,” he said.

Bitan added that the community has been troubled by numerous anti-Semitic acts over recent years, and a spokesman for the Federation of Jewish Communities in Venezuela, Daniel Ben-Naim, said the incident testified to the increasing hatred of Jews in the country.

“We’ve never had such an incident. It looks well-planned,” he said. “We were afraid something like this would happen. The official press was becoming more and more anti-Israeli and anti-Jews. There are hundreds of anti-Semitic articles, ads, and fliers.”

An Israeli residing in Caracas said images from the ravaged synagogue had been displayed in the local media. He said he had seen that another slogan, “Death to the Jews”, was also sprayed in the synagogue.

Relations between Israel and Venezuela became strained over the IDF operation in the Gaza Strip. Caracas severed its diplomatic ties with Israel after Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez slammed Israel’s actions as “inhumane”.

On Wednesday the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem announced that it had ordered Venezuelan diplomats in Israel to exit the country by the end of the week. In response, Caracas stated that the country was proud its diplomats had been expelled, and called Israeli leaders criminals.ADL Condemns Violent Attack on Caracas Synagogue

Rare look at Canada’s anti terrorism activities. National Post

Ottawa using intervention to extinguish Muslim extremism

Stewart Bell, National Post Published: Friday, January 30, 2009

The government has been using “counter-radicalization techniques” to steer Canadian Muslims away from extremism, according to a secret intelligence report obtained by the National Post.

The document outlines a little-known, government-wide, counter-radicalization strategy that aims to prevent al-Qaeda-inspired terrorists such as the London transit bombers from emerging within Canada.

The measures described in the report range from meeting with community and religious leaders and urging them to tackle radicalization to the more controversial tactic of intervention by police and security officials.

“The manifestation of Islamist terrorism in the West over the past few years has led to concerns over the radicalization of Western Muslims,” begins the 13-page Canadian Security Intelligence Service document. “Terrorist plots in the U.K., Spain, the Netherlands, Canada and other Western countries have been planned or carried out by Muslims born, or raised, in those countries…. In an effort to prevent future attacks, government responses have begun to address strategies to counter radicalization in their communities.”

Canadian officials have not typically discussed their initiatives to fight radicalization, and there is no obvious mention of the strategy on the government’s official Web site.

The report lists four counter-radicalization techniques employed in Canada: “intervention with at-risk youth,” “arrests and incarceration,” “outreach” and “a whole of government approach.”

“One important assessment that has universal acceptance is that individuals at the initial stages of radicalization are more susceptible to change or diversion than those at the latter stages,” the report says.
