Immigrants Flee Families to Find Themselves
Bahar ran away early on a winter morning, one-and-a-half years after her mother was murdered. She helped her younger siblings get ready for school, and then she gave them a goodbye kiss on the forehead. Her uncle and her brothers were still sleeping. Bahar tiptoed out of the apartment in her socks, walked down the stairs and out the door. And then she ran for her life.
Today Bahar is 26 and likes to wear high-heeled shoes. She has chosen a popular café in a small city as a meeting point. She is wearing a modest amount of makeup, and her black hair is pulled back into a bun. She smiles tentatively and introduces herself, using the name in her new passport, which, for her protection, cannot be used in this article.
Bahar’s family came to Germany from Iraq in 1996. They lived in the eastern city of Halle an der Saale for the first two years, in an apartment in a high-rise building with a dingy kitchen. Her father felt that most jobs were beneath him, beat his wife and “put out cigarettes on her skin,” says Bahar. The father would sometimes disappear for months at a time. Bahar suspects that he was involved in criminal activities. “Everything was always peaceful without him. We even had a picnic in the park once,” says Bahar. She took along some of the photos from that day when she ran away, but she can’t bear to look at them, she says.
During those happy times, when she was alone with her six children, Bahar’s mother came to the conclusion that she wanted to separate from her despotic husband. She went to the local town hall with Bahar to get information about German divorce law. When the father found out about it, he took a knife and locked himself in the bedroom with his wife on a summer night in 2003. Bahar holds up her hands to show us two scars: the evidence of her attempt to save her mother.
With the mother dead and the father sentenced to life in prison, an uncle took control of Bahar and her five siblings. He managed to make a caring and thoughtful impression on the youth welfare office, but it was deceptive. He used to turn up the music before he began beating the children. Bahar used makeup to hide the bruises. “I wasn’t allowed to read books, and I couldn’t even go out on the balcony anymore,” she says. “Just cook, do the laundry and clean.”
One wife killed, one barely alive
Now that is a headline that you used-to-not-hear-every-day once upon a time. Notice how the anglo names are in quotes. Clearly not the real names of the involved.
From The Ottawa Metro:

Ottawa police have mounted two investigations, one that ended with a Carleton Heights man being charged with first-degree murder and another in Kanata that police are saying little about.
Police charged Mihalj Nemet, 56, with first-degree murder in the Friday-morning stabbing death of his wife, Tinde Nemet, 46. Nemet was arrested at his Carleton Heights row house on Fisher Avenue, where police say the incident occurred.
Police were called to the home on Friday morning after neighbours awoke to the sound of screaming.
“We knew the police were there on Wednesday, we just didn’t know what they were doing,” said Tom Sadler, who lives across the street.
Sadler said he was shocked yesterday to read media reports that his neighbour, a woman named “Amanda,” was in hospital with a head injury, clinging to life, and that police have a man
in custody. Sadler said Amanda and her husband, “Robert,” have a young child. He said the couple in their 20s moved into the neighbourhood about two years ago.
“You would never know that something like this would happen,” Sadler said.
Police last night would say only that Det. Leanne Smith of the force’s partner assault unit is the lead investigator in the case. Smith could not be reached for comment.
Nemet appeared in court Saturday with his lawyer. He was remanded into custody until his next court appearance March 21. Before the killing, Nemet had been scheduled to appear in court this week on an assault charge.
California Muslim women probably killed in honour crime for wanting divorce. Not a hate crime. As we all knew already.
Cali-Iraqi woman’s death looking less like a hate crime and more like something more familiar.
Thanks Golem for this one.
1. UTSandiego:
Records hint Iraqi woman’s death not a hate crime
EL CAJON — Search warrant records obtained Wednesday in the beating death of an Iraqi-American woman show a family in turmoil and cast doubt on the likelihood that her slaying was a hate crime.
Shaima Alawadi, a 32-year-old mother of five, was apparently planning to divorce her husband and move to Texas when she was killed, a family member told investigators, according to the court documents.
The records obtained at El Cajon Superior Court also reveal Alawadi’s 17-year-old daughter, Fatima Alhimidi, who called 911 to report the attack, was distraught over her pending arranged marriage to a cousin.
A search of Fatima’s cellphone records shows that while she was being interviewed by investigators hours after the attack, someone sent the teen a text message that read, “The detective will find out tell them (can’t) talk,” the affidavit states.
2. Answering Muslims:
Police Records Cast Doubt on California “Hate Crime”
For years, the media have assured us that Americans are suffering from a mental disorder called “Islamophobia.” Oddly enough, the only evidence they’ve ever been able to produce for this charge is that many Americans believe in freedom of speech, freedom of religion, women’s rights, etc. (values not shared by Muhammad and his companions).
Recently, however, the media finally found the proof they’ve been waiting for. A Muslim woman named Shaima Alawadi was brutally murdered in her California home. A note was reportedly found beside her body, calling her a terrorist and telling her to go back to her country. Her family said that she had received a similar note a few weeks earlier. Clearly, Shaima was murdered by racist, Islamophobic bigots who spend their days reading articles at Jihad Watch and Atlas Shrugs (but who somehow manage to ignore Spencer and Geller’s repeated calls for peaceful activism).
Even before the facts were in, the media leapt at the chance to expose the bigotry and intolerance so prevalent in America. They assured us that Shaima was killed because she chose to wear the hijab, just as Trayvon Martin was killed for wearing a “hoodie.” Women around the world have been posting pictures of themselves wearing the hijab, in a movement called “One Million Hijabs for Shaima.” Muslims and non-Muslims have gathered at vigils to remember her.
But facts are beginning to emerge, and things aren’t looking good for the media. Shaima was planning to divorce her husband and move to Texas. Her daughter Fatima was distraught over an impending arranged marriage with her cousin. As Fatima was being interviewed by police, she received a text message, which said: “The detective will find out tell them cnt talk.”

Zialloh Abrahimzadeh allegedly murdered his wife in front of 300 people at a Persian community celebration at the Convention Centre in March 2010 by repeatedly stabbing her in the back.
The couple’s eldest daughter, 25-year-old Atena, has testified against her father. She told the court he was an abusive and aggressive man. Ms Abrahimzadeh said her father regularly punished his wife and children by slapping and whipping them. She said he once beat her for an hour after catching her talking to a boy on the phone and tried to suffocate her with a pillow.

More than 2,500 women and girls living in Ireland are estimated to have undergone female genital mutilation (FGM), according to new research by AkiDwA, a national network of African women living in Ireland. The number was described as a ‘conservative estimate’ by Sudha Patel of Duke University, North Carolina, who conducted the research. It is feared that the figure is in fact much higher.

Afghanistan’s government appears to be scaling back its support for women’s rights to advance peace talks with the Taliban ahead of the withdrawal of foreign troops, Afghan lawmakers and human-rights activists warned Tuesday.
A government-appointed council of 150 leading Muslim clerics last week urged the strict application of a conservative and literalist interpretation of Islamic law regarding women. The council said Afghan law should require women to wear the veil and forbid them from mixing with men in the work place or traveling without a male chaperone. “Men are fundamental and women are secondary,” the Ulama Council said in a statement on Friday, according to a translation by the Afghanistan Analysts Network.

It has become important to ‘decode’ TV now rather than watch it.
If one reads the page, “Agenda and views of this site” it is clearly explained that Western mass media now uses code, or omits important facts altogether rather than reports what actually is taking place in order to preserve the precious multicultural narrative at any and all costs it would seem.
As a consequence, one now watches TV and reads newspapers with a mind to attempt to decrypt what is said or what ‘evidence’ is presented in order to come close to the truth. Often a truth that does indeed reveal itself sooner or later, but not until the multi-culti meme has properly implanted itself into the story.
This may well be another one. Please click over to live leak to read one persons analysis on a story out of the US. The video is embedded below. But it is important to read the accounts of this story as it has been presented.
It is a fair to even bet of course that this will turn out to be an honour killing, and if so, it will be interesting to see if the NYT represents it as such, or if they let the story die as if it was a ‘hate crime’ with Muslims as the perpetual victims, even while they are the perpetual offender.
A 1000 ‘HONOR’ KILLINGS LAST YEAR IN PAKISTAN ALONE
Oh, and it has absolutely nothing to do with Islam.
Nearly 1,000 Pakistani women ‘killed for honor’
At least 943 Pakistani women and girls were murdered last year for allegedly defaming their family’s honor, the country’s leading human rights group said Thursday.
The statistics highlight the growing scale of violence suffered by many women in conservative Muslim Pakistan, where they are frequently treated as second-class citizens and there is no law against domestic violence.
Despite progress on better protecting women’s rights, activists say the government needs to do more to prosecute murderers in cases largely dismissed by police as private, family affairs.
“At least 943 women were killed in the name of honor, of which 93 were minors,” wrote the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan in its annual report.
Seven Christian and two Hindu women were among the victims, it said.
The Commission reported 791 “honor killings” in 2010.

Muslim Lesbian Couple Warns: Deport Us to Israel and we’ll be killed

Iman Musa and Majida Mugrabi, a Muslim lesbian couple who are Israeli citizens and are currently living in Canada, have received from the Federal Court of Canada an opportunity to re-examine their request to receive refugee status in Canada. In the judgment which was given on March 8, 2012, The Honourable Judge Roger Hughes ordered the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada to hold another hearing regarding the request.

Iman and Majida came to Toronto in 2007 and shortly afterwards applied for refugee status, claiming that there is a danger to their lives in Israel since they are in a lesbian relationship, which is considered a desecration of Muslim family honour, punishable by murder at the hands of one of the members of the family. The plea was rejected by the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration which ordered their deportation to Israel. The two appealed the decision and requested that their file be transferred to a Risk Assessment officer, who also declared on August 9, 2011 that their lives will not be in danger if they are deported to Israel.

BBC shines a light on ‘Asian’ honour killings in the UK
Well, at least they did it. And one guy did admit that the problem is primarily in the Islamic community. I guess as he is ‘ethnically’ Muslim (probably of Pakistani origins) it is allowed for him to say that. So the BBC managed to show the problem as Muslim without technically violating their moratorium on truth telling.
Here are a few excerpts that I took from the show. Sadly, I-Player, the BBC web streaming service, cannot be seen outside the UK. But I managed to pull a few bits from it. I am sure someone will manage to put the whole thing up soon.
Is this Britain’s first white honour killing victim? The happy but headstrong girl, 17, whose love across the racial divide had a tragic end
Daily Mail:

Laura Wilson, 17, had a baby by an Asian man, Ishaq ‘Zac’ Hussein, a 20-year-old
Laura Wilson was just 17 years old — a happy but headstrong girl whose love story across the racial divide would have a tragic ending.
‘She was feisty — if she had anything to say she would speak out,’ her mother Margaret says, as she showed me a picture of a smiling, mischievous teenager.
Laura’s Asian boyfriend, Ashtiaq Ashgar, also 17, was born in Britain but when Laura challenged his family’s traditional cultural values by confronting them with details of their relationship, she had to be silenced.
One night in October 2010, Laura was lured to the banks of a canal in Rotherham in South Yorkshire, where Ashtiaq attacked her before throwing her into the water.
He was subsequently arrested and found guilty of Laura’s murder last June and sentenced to 17 years in prison.
So does this mean that Laura was the first white victim of an honour killing in Britain?
Margaret Wilson has never spoken publicly before, but she told me she is convinced her daughter was murdered because she challenged the code of honour which some ethnic communities still follow in the UK.
‘I honestly think it was an honour killing for putting shame on the family. They needed to shut Laura up and they did,’ she says.
In today’s multi-cultural Britain, the majority of young people from immigrant communities are well-integrated. Yet in many households, old traditions are still a powerful force.
In south Asian and Middle Eastern communities, controlling the behaviour of women is seen as key to the family’s honour.
Refusing to consent to marry the husband chosen for you or leaving an abusive marriage is often seen as dishonouring the family.
As I found when investigating the issue of ‘honour killings’ for BBC1’s Panorama, women are suffering in silence.
Behind closed doors, beatings, kidnap, forced imprisonment, rape and even murder are being committed in the name of honour.
The Government admits it does not know the true scale of the abuse. The latest survey of police statistics show that 2,823 honour crimes were reported in 2010.
But a quarter of police forces could not provide the figures and many crimes go unreported, meaning that the real tally is much higher.
Ashtiaq Ashgar was found guilty of Laura Wilson’s death and sentenced to 17 years in prison
Laura Wilson’s murder had the brutal hallmarks of an honour killing.
She lived in Ferham Park, an Asian and white community in Rotherham.
Although only a teenager, Laura already had a baby by an Asian man, Ishaq ‘Zac’ Hussein, a 20-year-old.
However, he refused to recognise the child and Laura was really in love with his friend, Ashtiaq Ashgar.
Her mother says: ‘Ashtiaq was her first love, she adored him.’
But stung by Zac’s rejection of her and their child, Laura decided to confront the men’s families and told them she’d had sexual relations with both men.
Sheffield police believe this was the trigger for a plan to kill Laura.
Detective Superintendent Mick Mason told me that Laura’s decision to go round to the families and to confront them was not welcomed in the Pakistani community.
