Saudi Arabia is studying new regulations to criminalise insulting Islam, including in social media, and the law could carry heavy penalties, a Saudi paper said on Sunday.

The potential regulations come five months after a Saudi blogger and columnist Hamza Kashgari, 23, was arrested for tweeting comments deemed as insulting the Prophet Mohammad. Kashgari said there were things he liked and disliked about him.

“Within the next two months the Shura Council will reveal the outcome of study on the regulations to combat the criticism of the basic tenets of Islamic sharia,” unnamed sources with knowledge of the matter told al-Watan, adding that there could be “severe punishments” for violators.

Criticism penalised under the law would include that of the Prophet, early Muslim figures and clerics, it said.

Islamists flog demonstrators in Mali and users of alcohol

An original translation by Michael Laudahn

From NZZ.Ch:

Islamists flog demonstratorsIslamists in Mali try to consolidate their power in the country’s north with a show of force. According to inhabitants, members of the Ansar Dine islamist group went from door to door in the town of Goundam, 100 km west of Timbuktu, detained around 90 people and had them flogged.  Apparently, this measure was meant as a deterrant, after violent protetsts against the islamists had erupted on friday in this town. During these protests, angry inhabitants are said to have destroyed parts of the islamists’ headquarters, according to inhabitants.  According to reports, the protests erupted after a militant islamist flogged a woman with a baby on her arm, because she didn’t wear an appropriate veil, said Hama Cisse, one of the inhabitants. A speaker of the group said the protests were part of a slandering campaign, the baby had remained unharmed.

CAIRO (AP) — Three bearded men approached a university student and his girlfriend during a romantic rendezvous in a park and ordered them to separate because they weren’t married, according to security officials. An argument broke out, ending with one of the men fatally stabbing the student.

The June 25 attack has alarmed Egyptians concerned that with an Islamist president in office, vigilante groups are feeling emboldened to enforce strict Islamic mores on the streets.

Islamists, including members of one-time violent groups, were empowered after last year’s ouster of Hosni Mubarak’s secular regime by a popular uprising. They formed political parties and won about 70 percent of parliament seats in elections held some six months ago, although a court dissolved the legislature.

Moderate Muslims along with liberal and women’s groups now worry that Mohammed Morsi’s presidency will eradicate what is left of Egypt’s secular traditions and change the social fabric of the mainly Muslim nation of 82 million people.

Some activists say Islamists already are flexing their muscles in areas outside Cairo and other main cities, taking advantage of the absence of civil society groups and tenuous security in the areas.

They cite reports of efforts to persuade drivers of communal taxis, mostly minibuses that can seat up to 16, to segregate women and men passengers. In some instances, women’s hairdressing salons were told to get rid of male employees or threatened with closure.

“If Islamists are to try and take over the streets and enforce their version of Islam, they will do it in rural areas, at least initially,” said Yara Sallam from Nazra, a women’s rights group.

The security officials said there was no concrete evidence linking the June 25 killing to radical Islamic groups in Egypt, but it still has stoked fears.

Islamist groups, including Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood and the ultraconservative Salafis, denied any link to the murders.

Rights groups say they have sent teams to investigate the Suez killing and establish whether Islamists were behind the attacks.

On the same day, two musicians, who were brothers, were murdered as they were traveling home after performing at a wedding in the Nile Delta province of Sharqiyah, officials said. Radical Muslims consider music “haram” or prohibited, as a distraction from religious duties.

Two ultraconservative Salafi Muslims were arrested, but officials said it was not clear if the killings were religiously motivated.

Honour killing’ of mother, 30, beheaded by her ex-husband… who then decapitated their two young children because they’d watched

  • Boy, eight, and girl, nine killed in horrific execution
  • Father decided to spare their two-year-old daughter

A 30-year-old woman and two of her children were beheaded overnight in Afghanistan’s east, police said, in what appeared to be the latest in a rapidly growing trend of so-called honour killings.

Police said they suspected the woman Serata’s divorced husband of barging into her house in the capital of Ghazni province and murdering her, alongside their eight-year-old son and nine-year-old daughter.

‘The children saw the killer take their mother’s head off, so he killed them too,’ a local policeman said, adding that the attacker had spared Sereta’s two-year-old daughter.

Activists say there has been a sharp rise in violent attacks on women in Afghanistan over the past year.

They blame President Hamid Karzai’s waning attention to women’s rights as his government prepares for the exit of most foreign troops in 2014 and seeks to negotiate with the Taliban, Afghanistan’s former Islamist rulers.

The sentence was carried out on the orders of Ansar Dine, a militant Muslim organisation that has seized territory in the desert north of the West African country.

“People were watching it was like a show,” said Mohamed Ould Babby, a local official.

“I was there, I saw the youths arriving at the square, I saw them being whipped, it is the first time I have seen something like that.” The woman, who was three months pregnant, has another child with her partner but the couple is not married.

According to Ansar Dine’s strict interpretation of Islamic laws, that means the pair have committed the crime of “fornication”, which is punishable with 100 lashes.

An Islamic police official in the town said six other women who had had children outside of marriage would soon be “punished by Islamic law”.

Moroccan Government Demands Arabic Become Standard Part of European School Curriculum

…and when they hold the whip hand….

 Islam in Europe:

22:05 | Posted by Cheradenine Zakalwe

The Moroccan minister for Moroccans Living Abroad, Abdellatif Mâazouz, is pressing governments in Europe to make the teaching of Arabic a standard part of the European school curriculum.

For several months he and his governement have been undertaking a veritable cultural offensive to impose the Arabic language in the educational curricula of European countries, alongside English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and/or Mandarin.

“A special effort is made on the cultural level and on the level of language teaching…” explains the minister. His activism is starting to bear fruit, as he insists the “voice [of the Moroccan government] is starting to be heard, especially in France, which will soon announce something in this vein,” even going on to enlarge his listening audience to “the EU too”.

This is a repost of a portion of a significant debate between Dr. Wafa Sultan, Syrian born psychologist now living in the USA, and an influential muslim jurist who was an inspiration to the London 7/7 bombers among other affronts to civilized society.

I repost it as, on request by the ABN, I re edited the video using much higher resolution files supplied by the station itself and upon completion realized it was probably worth reposting in case anyone has not already seen it yet.

This is one of the clips that really, everyone needs to see. It is Islam as it really is.

Iranian pair face death penalty after third alcohol offense

Two people previously lashed 160 times for consuming alcohol, which is forbidden under Islamic Sharia law

Two Iranians have been sentenced to death for persistent consumption of alcohol under the country’s Islamic Sharia law, which forbids the use, manufacturing and trading of all types of alcoholic drinks.

The two, who have not been named by the authorities, have each previously been lashed 160 times after twice being arrested for consuming alcohol. Being convicted for the third time makes them liable for the death penalty.

The head of the judiciary Seyed Hasan Shariati, based in Iran‘s north-eastern province of Khorasan Razavi, told the semi-official Isna news agency that the supreme court had upheld their death sentences and that officials were preparing for their execution.

“Two people who committed the offence of consuming alcohol for the third time have been sentenced to be executed. The verdict has been confirmed by the supreme court and we are preparing to administer it,” he said.

Under Iranian Sharia law, certain crimes such as sodomy, rape, theft, fornication, apostasy and consumption of alcohol for the third time are considered to be “claims of God” and therefore have mandatory death sentences.

From the most populous Muslim nation on earth…

The Banda Aceh region of Indonesia is best known to most Westerners as the main area devastated by the 2004 tsunami which killed hundreds of thousands.

Unfortunately for Christians in the predominantly Muslim nation, Banda Aceh is back in the news.

As reported by the Jakarta Globe, there have been “demands” from local Muslim groups that the government shutdown storefront Christian churches in the area.

As of last month, 16 have since been boarded up on orders from the Jakarta government.

Meanwhile…

A 300-strong mob stormed a Bethel-associated (Protestant) Christian three-story storefront church in Banda Aceh, smashing windows and destroying furniture on the first floor.

According to the Jakarta Globe, the 60 worshippers were on the 3d floor and due to the “quick response” of the local police, none of the Christians were harmed.

As quoted, the Banda Aceh Police Chief Muffan Mudji Kafanti stated:

“the attackers ransacked the place because the church members had not obtained permission to hold Mass in the store.”

Chief Muffan also stated:

“There are regulations if you want to make it a place of worship.

Local residents couldn’t accept it and wrecked it.”

Reportedly, despite an ongoing investigation, there have been no arrests.

However, the Bethel congregation is now suspected of illegally opening a place of worship without governmental approval.

Also, “12 of the Christians were taken to the police station for questioning.”

In a seperate incident, an Indonesian Catholic church was destroyed.

Tunisia: Salafis attack cities, 86 arrested

Salafists protest in Tunis Salafists protest in Tunis

(ANSAmed) – TUNIS – Salafis have gone on the rampage in many Tunisian cities, with the destruction of property and the setting on fire of police stations, party and union headquarters and even a lorry transporting alcoholic beverages. The rioting started over the night in Tunis and then spread to many other cities in the country (such as Sousse and Jendouba), which saw extremely violent episodes fostered by hundreds of Salafis. In some situations the police were forced to shoot into the air in the attempt to quell the rioting, such as in the Ettahir municipality, where in this way they managed to prevent a group of policemen from being attacked by hundreds of Salafis armed with clubs and stones. The extremists’ protest began in the northern outskirts of the capital and especially in Marsa, where the gallery of art is located which – through its exhibition of works held to be immoral by Salafis – sparked their reaction. From Marsa the rioting spread to the southern suburbs to the edges of Carthage, where the presidential palace is located, under military guard the entire night.

More details on the sharia4belgium stabbing of the 2 police officers in Malombeek

Michael was kind enough to translate the following related article for us as well:

Moslem extremist taking revenge against Molenbeek cops
Two officers belonging to the western Brussels police zone were stabbed down friday evening in a metro station in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek. The perpetrator, a 53-year old moslem extremist from Paris, was arrested. He had come to Belgium in order to exact revenge for the niqab incident last week.
Friday evening, police held a control action at the Beekkant metro station and had just stopped four travellers, when a man attacked the two officers, a male and a female inspector, using a 23-cm bladed kitchen knife, without visible reasons.
‘The woman got a knife in her neck, the man in the neck and a leg. Heavily wounded, they were transported to the hospital, where one of them was submitted to an emergency operation. Both of them are now outside danger to life’, according to commissaris Johan Berckmans.
In the morning, the perpetrator had come with the Thalys [european high-speed train] from Patris to Brussels, aiming at stabbing down one or several officers, in order to take revenge for the niqab and burka forbiddance in our country, and for the incident involving the niqab girl last week. 24-year old Stéphanie Djato was then arrested because she did not want to take off her niqab, and because she had attacked officers. As a consequence, serious riots erupted in Molenbeek.
In the perpetrator’s luggage, several newspaper clips on this incident were found, on Sharia4Belgium, and on the 250-euro premium promised by Vlaams Belang [patriotic political party] for those who report to police a woman in burka or niqab.

As a reader pointed out. Quoran has an interesting related quote:

Qur’an Chapter 47? “Strike their necks”

“So when you meet those who disbelieve [in battle], strike [their] necks until, when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then secure their bonds, and either [confer] favor afterwards or ransom [them] until the war lays down its burdens. That [is the command]. And if Allah had willed, He could have taken vengeance upon them [Himself], but [He ordered armed struggle] to test some of you by means of others. And those who are killed in the cause of Allah – never will He waste their deeds.”
