Visa insult a betrayal of liberalism

The Australian embassy in The Hague, at Carnegielaan 4, is a model of the functional blandness that dominates the Dutch city. An effort has been made to replicate a traditional steeped roof but it barely mitigates the sterility. On most days, a row of bicycles sits outside the front door, a very Dutch touch.

What has been taking place inside the bland exterior of that embassy during the past six weeks is the opposite of Holland’s famous liberalism. An unfolding act of cowardice has been cooking inside the embassy. It is a calculated insult to the Dutch government.

Six weeks ago, the leader of the Party for Freedom (PVV), which until recently held the balance of power in the Dutch parliament, applied for a visa to visit Australia. His name is Geert Wilders.

Members of his staff and security detail were granted visas after three days. Wilders received nothing. He is still waiting. The Dutch media are waiting for the insult the Gillard government appears to be preparing for a member of the Netherlands’ parliament.

Subway tracks robber caught in Sweden. No mention of his name in any article.

We posted videos of the cold hearted robery of a man who had fallen down drunk on the railway tracks and left to die. Now Swedish media has lots of stories about his arrest but his name is carefully concealed. I would be willing to bed odds though that I know what at least one of his names is.

If the right of employers to forbid such acts of expression as wearing a cross at work is upheld, where will it end – asks United Kingdom Independence Party leader

The case of four Christians who have taken cases to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has provided us with one of the most extraordinary sights: that of Counsel for the United Kingdom attacking the right of people to wear an outward assertion of their faith at work. Nadia Eweida, a British Airways worker from Twickenham in south west London, was sent home in 2006 after refusing to remove a necklace with a cross or hide it from view.

An employment tribunal ruled Eweida, a Coptic Christian originally from Egypt, had not suffered religious discrimination but the airline changed its uniform policy after the case to allow all religious symbols, including crosses. Nurse Shirley Chaplin, from Exeter, was moved to a paperwork role by the Royal Devon and Exeter National Health Service Trust, in Devon, after refusing to remove a necklace bearing a crucifix.

People in these islands have been wearing crosses to evince their faith on and off since the third century AD, when Christianity was first practised here in Roman times. Though some wear a cross as an accessory, to the vast majority of those who wear a modest crucifix either around the neck or as a lapel badge – it is no more than a small and discreet statement to the world that the wearer is a practising Christian. For those of faith and those of no faith, it is part and parcel of our British culture and as such part of the fabric of the British nation.

In reality, it is no more and no less than the exercise of the right of freedom of expression. If the right of employers to forbid such acts of expression is upheld, where will it end? Will it be in order to forbid those who wear charity wristbands from such a display? Will employees wearing lapel pins indicating membership of, say, a political party or a trades union – or their former regiment – be similarly forbidden? Yet, now wearing a crucifix is to become the object of state intolerance.

Canada has a specific law banning speech which calls abortion into question. Who knew!

For the record, I am posting this because of the points Ezra Levant raises in this video and not as a statement of position on Abortion. I personally do not wish to use this platform for issues other than freedom of speech and Islam/immigration and irrational leftism. However this video does speak both to totalitarian leftism and freedom of speech.

The abortion issue is for another place.

Michael Coren expresses concern about police today in the Western world.

I find this to be a rather bad omen. When classical conservatives such as Mr. Coren or Lowell Green (more on that later) who have always been champions of the police and staunch supporters of them start to publicly question their motives and strategy or even entertain the notion that the strategy of police is other than as defenders of our rights and the law I would call that a very bad sign for Western secular liberal democracy.

I wonder if a punk band broke into a mosque uninvited and started singing punk songs about how awful Islam is, even if they told the absolute verbatim truth about Mohamed and so on, and also included how pissed off they where at the Obama administration for its complicity in being the single biggest force for the reduction of freedom and safety for all non-Muslim groups in the world, again, arguably very true, and had many of their supporters also enter the mosque and trash the place up during the performance, would Obama make sure that no prosecution took place?

Or would he label it terrorism and go public with how horrible these peoples actions where and apologize to Muslims till the crease in his pants faded a tiny bit around the knee.

I think we all know the answer. And frankly, I gotta go with Putin on this one.

US Marine arrested, allegedly for his “patriotic facebook posts”. ***But actually because his FB page is psychotic***

New information is that his facebook page genuinely does show material that should be of concern to authorities in some ways. This person likely needs a psychiatric evaluation if indeed one can be justified at all in the interests of preventing a mass killing as we have seen recently. I think it is important to look at this incident in the light of what his facebook page did say, which from what I have been told would be a red light to anyone.

In the light of free speech absolutism it should still not be grounds for arrest. But a psych eval doesn’t sound like such a bad idea.

I don’t know what, if there is one, the back story is. Based on the Obama administrations cooperation with the Istanbul process and their willingness to use punitive measures against Americans who insult Islam (see Rev Jones) it would not surprise me if this is as advertised.

A youngster punches four times into a police officer’s face: file closed!

Brussels: Alil, 23, has beaten, free of charge, a police officer: He has been acquitted, without any consequences, by the Brussels prosecutor’s office.

Last thursday, around 11 in the morning, Alil rides on his 50 cc moped a one-way street in the wrong direction – Gineststraat, Sint-Joost-ten-Noode towards Sint-Lazarusplaats -, suddenly facing a vehicle. The driver, a 37-year old police officer [apparently in plain clothes] of the Nord [police] zone, prepares to follow his duties. Alil immediately insults the cop – who himself drives in the right direction… ‘You wanted to kill me, dirty son of a bitch. You were trying to drive over me, dirty son of a bitch…’

The officer keeps his cool, responding that it’s he who rides in the wrong direction, that it’s he who rides like a madman, and that it’s he who is wrong. Alil, identifying his victim as a police officer: ‘You are a cop?!’

The officer confirms that Alil’s insight is correct and glances at the rear end of his scooter, hoping to see his licence plate. ‘No chance, there’s no licence plate, but I will stop’, Alil scorns him. The youngster dismounts his moped, resuming the situation the way he perceives it: ‘You don’t even wear a uniform, you have nothing to tell me, you wanted to kill me…’

So the cop tries to call reinforcements, but Alil decides not to wait endlessly. When the officer puts his hand on his forearm, to make him understand to wait for the reinforcements’ arrival, he receives three punches in his face.

As usual, a crowd has formed: The curious crowd demand that Alil ‘calm down’ and that the officer ‘let him go’…

Suddenly Alil realises that he is in the middle of ramadan: ‘You’ve also broken my ramadan, dirty son of a bitch’, he shouts at the officer, while giving him a fourth punch right into his face.

Put at the discretion of the Brussels’ prosecutor’s office, his file was closed within 48 hours. An convenience decision motivated by the absence of previous criminal records on part of the youngster

[Translator: wouldn’t this have been a chance to start with them?] 

Put differently, no consequences because Alil doesn’t have the habitude to beat! The officer himself has been put on a six-days sick leave.

A PENSIONER who claimed he had been the victim of racist abuse ranted at police because he believed his complaint was not taken seriously because he was white.

Retired mental health social worker James Evans, of Bath Road, Worcester, admitted a section five public order when he appeared before a district judge at Worcester Magistrates Court .

The court heard how the 65-year-old shouted at staff at Worcester police station where he was attempting to report what he believed was an offence against him at around 11am on July 25.

Sam Webley, prosecuting, said Evans became agitated at having to wait and accused one of the counter staff of being incompetent.

A constable asked Evans to calm down and not be abusive to counter staff.

Mrs Webley said: “He is described as red in the face and asked for the PC’s badge number. He said he was being asked to wait like a little dog.” He was arrested and taken to the custody suite where he continued to be abusive. “He said: ‘If I was Asian this wouldn’t have happened,’” said Mrs Webley.

Evans, who represented himself, told the court that he had been distressed at the time and was concerned that the Celtic and Anglo-Saxon people of Britain are completely erased from any considerations of race.

“I went to ask an Asian chap if he would mind moving his car because we couldn’t see to get out of our drive,” said Evans.

“I was met with a tirade of abuse and was told that you whites had better watch your step. I felt really betrayed and distressed. “I know from my experience as a social worker that had my actions been by an Asian person or by any other racial group but my own they would have been taken more seriously and treated in a completely different way.”
