(CNN)North Korea on Saturday launched a ballistic missile that blew up over land, a spokesman for the US Pacific Command said.
This just happened.
Tim Burton, a very well educated man on Islam and its effects on the West, has just been sentenced to 12 weeks at Wandsworth Prison in the UK and led straight from court to jail.
This officially makes disparaging Islam to a Muslim as a serious criminal offence in the UK.
Tim and I would share a 2 hour monthly radio spot with Key Fritzy on the last Tuesday of every month at this Blogtalk radio program.
More info as available. Also will update with specifics of the charge.
As stated here before, the communications between Mr. Burton and the man who charged him showed questionable judgement, but in no way shape or form constituted what a liberal democracy could call a crime. Certainly not one deserving of prison.

Here is a link to one of the shows Tim, Kel & I did some time ago. If you dig around in the link above, you can find others.
1, France now also released a statement confirming Assad was behind the chemical attack
(Israel also claimed their intel showed the attack was Syrian government forces)
France’s foreign minister said on Wednesday that the chemical analysis of samples taken from a deadly sarin gas attack in Syria earlier this month “bears the signature” of President Bashar Assad’s government and shows it was responsible for the deadly assault.
According to Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, France came to this conclusion after comparing samples from a sarin attack in Syria from 2013 that matched the new ones. The findings came in a 6-page report published Wednesday.
The Kremlin promptly denounced the French report, saying the samples and the fact the nerve agent was used are not enough to prove who was behind it. Assad has repeatedly denied that his forces used chemical weapons and claimed that myriad evidence of a poison gas attack is made up.
2. U.S. Moves THAAD Anti-Missile To South Korean Site, Sparking Protests
SEOUL (Reuters) – The U.S. military started moving parts of an anti-missile defense system to a deployment site in South Korea on Wednesday, triggering protests from villagers and criticism from China, amid tension over North Korea’s weapons development.
The earlier-than-expected steps to deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system was also denounced by the frontrunner in South Korea’s presidential election on May 9.
South Korea’s defense ministry said elements of THAAD were moved to the deployment site, on what had been a golf course, about 250 km (155 miles) south of the capital, Seoul.
“South Korea and the United States have been working to secure an early operational capability of the THAAD system in response to North Korea’s advancing nuclear and missile threat,” the ministry said in a statement.
3. US Navy fires warning flare at Iran vessel in Persian Gulf
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — A U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer fired a warning flare toward an Iranian Revolutionary Guard vessel coming near it in the Persian Gulf, an American official said on Wednesday, the latest tense naval encounter between the two countries.
The incident happened Monday as the vessel attempted to draw closer to the USS Mahan despite the destroyer trying to turn away from it, said Lt. Ian McConnaughey, a spokesman for the Bahrain-based 5th Fleet.
[…]
Since the nuclear deal with world powers, the hard-line Revolutionary Guard has stepped up its encounters with the Americans. The Navy recorded 35 instances of what it describes as “unsafe and/or unprofessional” interactions with Iranians forces in 2016, compared to 23 in 2015. With Monday’s event, there have been seven so far in 2017, McConnaughey said.
4. More than 700,000 granted asylum in EU in 2016
(It is a dead cert that this number will be dwarfed by the number of Africans and muslims who entered Europe in 2016 and remain there)
The European Union’s statistical agency says European countries granted refugee status or some other protection to more than 700,000 people last year, most of them Syrians.
Eurostat said Wednesday that the 28 EU member countries gave protection to 710,400 asylum-seekers in 2016, more than double the number the previous year. It came after more than a million people entered Europe, most fleeing conflict in Syria or Iraq but some also looking for jobs.
Eurostat said that 405,600 people were Syrians, 65,800 were Iraqis and 61,800 Afghans.
More than 70 percent of the Syrians were offered protection by Germany. Sweden took in almost 45,000
(The bookies are likely tilting the odds toward the likelihood that the majority indeed are not Syrians at all, but Pakistanis, Afghans, and Maghrebis)

SEOUL, April 25 (Yonhap) — North Korea staged what appears to be the largest firing drill on Tuesday to mark the 85th founding anniversary of its military, a government source said.
“Signs are detected that North Korea’s military is conducting a large-scale drill around the eastern port city of Wonsan on the anniversary,” the source said.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is presumed to have watched the exercise involving some 300-400 long-range artillery pieces that can put Seoul and its adjacent areas within range, it added.
The move is seen as North Korea’s show of military force against Seoul and Washington instead of staging a large-scale provocation on the founding anniversary of the Korean People’s Army.
Speculation has been rife that Pyongyang may conduct its sixth nuclear test or launch a long-range ballistic missile to mark its military event.
Top Trump administration officials will hold a rare briefing on Wednesday at the White House for the entire U.S. Senate on the situation in North Korea.
All 100 senators have been asked to the White House for the briefing by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said White House spokesman Sean Spicer on Monday.
While administration officials routinely travel to Capitol Hill to address members of Congress on foreign policy matters, it is unusual for the entire Senate to go to the White House, and for all four of those officials to be involved.
Wednesday’s briefing was originally scheduled for a secure room at the Capitol, but President Donald Trump suggested a shift to the White House, congressional aides said.
Washington has expressed mounting concern over North Korea’s nuclear and missile tests, and its threats to attack the United States and its Asian allies.
Trump, who called the leaders of China and Japan during the weekend, told U.N. Security Council ambassadors on Monday that “the status quo” is not acceptable, and said the council must be ready to impose new sanctions.
North Korea on Tuesday reportedly conducted a huge live-fire drill that involved up to 400 artillery pieces, which may have been supervised by the country’s leader, Kim Jong Un, as the U.S. added a nuclear-powered submarine to its fleet of vessels powering toward the region.
Pyongyang apparently deployed long-range artillery units in the coastal region of Wonsan, an unnamed government source told South Korea’s Yonhap news agency. South Korea’s military did not confirm the report, but told the news outlet it was “firmly maintaining readiness.”
(The coming actions, whatever they may be, are long overdue, and are largely if not entirely the fault of Obama’s policy of “Strategic Patience”)
[please post any new info on the situation in North Korea today under this post if you would. Most likely tomorrow this site will be dedicated to North Korea as an issue.]

A North Korean defector who witnessed her first public execution aged just seven is convinced despot Kim Jong-Un would launch nuclear weapons against its enemies as a ‘last stand’.

Bloomberg: Trump Mulls U.S. Military Options for North Korea, All Grim
(Video of Pence being clear on alliances and issues concerning the North Korean regime and sounding quite sombre at link)
Three weeks before becoming president, Donald Trump weighed in on the threat of North Korea developing a nuclear warhead capable of reaching the U.S.: “It won’t happen,” he vowed on Twitter.
Now planners are contemplating what a U.S. strike to prevent that development might look like, and the options are grim.
Please post any new materials on North Korea at this post’s comments unless a significant development takes place, in which case we start a new post or go out for iodine.

U.S. military provocation will result in merciless counteraction of North Korea [English]
A spokesman for the General Staff of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) issued a statement Friday as regards the extremely dangerous situation prevailing on the Korean peninsula due to the Trump administration’s reckless military provocation. The Trump administration of the U.S. began to disclose its brigandish nature timed to coincide with Key Resolve and Foal Eagle nuclear war games now under way in across south Korea, the statement said, and went on: The DPRK policy shaped by the Trump administration is first to put high-intensity sanctions and pressure together with someone, second to constantly keep tactical nuclear weapons deployed in south Korea and third to launch an independent military action aimed at “beheading operation” against the leadership of the DPRK and “preemptive strike”.
In actuality, the Trump administration, which made a surprise cruise guided missile strike at Syria on April 6, has entered the path of open threat and blackmail against the DPRK, describing it as “a strong warning message” to it. The U.S. State secretary, Defense secretary and other officials concerned with security of the U.S. are openly crying out more often than not for launching an independent military action against the DPRK. Under the prevailing situation where the Trump administration’s serious military hysteria has reached a dangerous phase which can no longer be overlooked, the KPA General Staff re-clarifies its principled stand as follows upon authorization:
1. All the brigandish provocative moves of the U.S. in the political, economic and military fields pursuant to its hostile policy toward the DPRK will thoroughly be foiled through the toughest counteraction of the army and people of the DPRK. Our toughest counteraction against the U.S. and its vassal forces will be taken in such a merciless manner as not to allow the aggressors to survive. Under the prevailing grave situation, the U.S. has to come to its senses and make a proper option for the solution of the problem.
The army and people of the DPRK will as ever courageously counter those who encroach upon the dignity and sovereignty of the DPRK and will always mercilessly foil all the provocative options of the U.S. with Korean-style toughest counteraction.
