10: 14: It’s a hazy day in Vienna, and we’re awaiting the start of the second hearing in the case against Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff, who is charged with ”Inciting hatred” and ”Denigrating the teachings of a recognized religion” in her seminar to FPÖ about political Islam.

At the first hearing on 23rd November 2010, the basic charges were laid out, with the prosecutor quoting a few passages as foundation about the case, followed by ESW and her lawyer detailing the context for what was said, supplying details and sources for each.

Also the journalist from NEWS.at, Dolna, was present at the first hearing, where she was permitted to witness for the prosecutor, in spite of her not being called to do so. She was asked to explain various issues of her original article, including the reasons for attributing quotes from other people to ESW, and her use of remarks during the breaks as if they were parts of the seminar. She quoted ”Dramaturgic reasons” for doing so.

The current issue of NEWS.at has a follow-up to their original article, with references to the FPÖ chairman Heinz-Christian Strache supporting ESW. The article notes that in this hearing, actual evidence in the form of recordings from the seminar will be presented, stating that this is probably a bad idea for the defence.

We are certainly looking forward to actual evidence being presented, as not even the prosecutor had gone through the original evidence in the first hearing, relying instead on the transcript provided by NEWS.at. A certified German translation of select passages of Reliance of the Traveller has been prepared by the defence, to document that the interpretations provided by ESW are indeed in line with canonical Islamic law.

ESW arrives. Session starts

AZ SHOOTING HAS POLITICAL CONNECTION: A VICTIM THREATENS TEA PARTY MEMBER WITH DEATH

Interesting, the only politically motivated threats to violence connected to the Arizona shooting, comes from one a man (most likely a Lefty) shot at the mass murder incident at the Safeway shopping center which left a large number of people dead and wounded. KGS

Tucson shooting victim detained at taping of TV special

The gathering for “After the Tragedy: An American Conversation Continued,” to be shown as a special edition of “This Week” Sunday, included witnesses, first responders, victims and heroes of the Jan. 8 mass shooting that killed six and wounded 13 others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz.

Local officials and others also packed St. Odilia’s Catholic Church in northwest Tucson, where the show was taped.

KGUN reported that Fuller took exception to comments by Republican state Rep. Terri Proud and Tucson Tea Party spokesman Trent Humphries.

Fuller was in the front row and apparently became upset when Humphries suggested that any conversations about gun control should be delayed until all the dead were buried, KGUN reported.

Fuller took a picture of Humphries and shouted, “You’re dead.”

Some media reports said Fuller kept booing and making other remarks before deputies escorted him from the church.

ELISABETH SABADITSCH-WOLFF’S THOUGHTS BEFORE HER TRIAL BEGINS

The Tundra Tabloids was talking with Elisabeth the other day about her upcoming trial, and she mentioned a couple of interesting encounters she had with two very different friends. “Both kept me thinking very hard even after we parted ways.” This is Elisabeth’s account of those two encounters, which were first published at the Gates of Vienna. Thoughts Before a Trial

by Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff

With just a few days remaining before the next stage of my trial, I had two interesting encounters with two quite different friends. Both kept me thinking very hard even after we parted ways.

Allison is the mother of twin girls who went to kindergarten with my daughter. Allison and her husband are liberals in the sense of “live and let live”; they have no connection with religion, any religion, and they believe that everyone should have the freedom to believe in whatever he wants, to dress in any way he wants, to eat whatever he wants. We have had many a discussion about what I do and what I believe in, and although we are friends, they have always told me that they think that what I do is wrong in the sense that I am unfairly attacking Muslims.

Allison called me the other night. We talked, and when I told her that I was sad that she and her husband had chosen the United Arab Emirates for their next vacation, she answered that I am a radical. I asked, somewhat surprised, why she thought that.

“Well, I see the hatred in your face when you see a woman in a headscarf on the street.”

“What?” I answered. “How can you tell? Can you read my mind?”

In any case, I do not hate people, but I criticize the ideology that forces women to cover up, that takes away a woman’s right to choose her life and her destiny, an ideology that enslaves women. I inform people about the contents of the Quran and am thus a hate preacher. Or, in other words, by teaching the Quran I am preaching hate. And people listening to me will feel hatred.

“But you also hate the woman, I can see that,” she replied.

I then told her the following: “Allison, once again: how do you know that? Can you read my thoughts? Furthermore, your belief in ‘live and let live’ can only work if everyone adheres to it. But Islam does not call for ‘live and let live’. In any case, you are actually saying what the prosecutor is saying, that this woman hates Muslims, hates Islam, incites other people to hate Muslims by feeling hatred towards Muslims. You should be hoping for a guilty verdict, because you believe you know what I feel.”

She was shocked. Apparently I had nailed her. “No, not at all. I want to you to win, with all my heart. You need to win.”

“But you’re saying something very different, Allison.”

“Well, actually I want you to win for your daughter’s sake.”

Note that she didn’t say: I want you to win because you’re right. Or: You have the right to your opinions, even though I may not agree with them. No, she said: For your daughter’s sake.

“I want you to win because your daughter should not have to deal with a mother who was found guilty in court. She won’t understand it.”

We then decided to change the subject, but afterwards the conversation continued to linger in my mind. What had happened here? Was I wrong? And still, I can only repeat myself for the umpteenth time that I do not hate Muslims (as a matter of fact, I do not hate, period), but liberals do not believe people like me. No matter what I say or do, it seems they are projecting their own bigotries upon me. I am merely holding up a mirror. What they see is not my — non-existent — hatred, but their own.

The next day I met my neighbor and friend Samantha. During our neighborly small talk I told her that I was busy preparing for my case, and this prompted her to say in a near-whisper, “You know, I have been following your case, and though I wasn’t always so sure about what you stood for I can tell you now that I think you’re spot on. I admire you. I do not have the courage to do what you are doing, but you are doing the right thing. I also tell my friends that I think you are right and you need to be supported. They criticized you heavily before, but they are also starting to understand.”

Not only did Samantha’s words move me to tears, but I was amazed at her honesty in admitting that she had actually studied my words and found them to be the truth. And this is what I hope the court will also conclude after careful study of my arguments. One may not agree with my statements, but they are still true. No matter how painful the truth may be, it must remain what it is: the truth.

Hezbollah and allies to topple Lebanon government: report

(Reuters) – Ministers from Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement and its political allies will resign on Wednesday, forcing the collapse of Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri’s government, a senior political source said.

“The resignation statement has been written and will be announced at 4.30pm (7:30 a.m. EST),” he said. Eleven ministers would resign, enough to automatically bring the government down, added the source, who asked not to be named.

Lebanese politicians on Tuesday said Saudi Arabia and Syria had failed to forge a deal to curb political tensions in Lebanon over a U.N.-backed tribunal set up to try the killers of Hariri’s father, former premier Rafik al-Hariri.

Disagreements over the investigation had paralysed the “unity” government and revived fears of sectarian conflict.

Hezbollah has denied any involvement in the 2005 bombing which killed Rafik Hariri and 22 others. It has denounced the tribunal as an “Israeli project” and urged Saad al-Hariri to reject its findings — a demand he has resisted.

THE FINNISH DOG THAT PISSED OFF THE FUROR

Howl Hitler! Documents reveal the Hitler-mocking dog that enraged the Nazi government

Even by the standards of the Second World War, 1941 proved to be a somewhat eventful.

The U.S. joined the war after Pearl Harbor, Germany invaded the Soviet Union – and back in Berlin the Nazis were preoccupied with a Finnish dog called Jackie.

Papers just released by the German Foreign Office reveal Adolf Hitler’s regime was increasingly angry that the animal, which had been taught to raise its paw mimicking the Nazi salute, was mocking the Fuhrer.

Third Reich officials started a campaign against the dog’s owner, with the Foreign Office in Berlin commanding its diplomats in Nazi-friendly Finland to gather evidence on Jackie and even coming up with plans to destroy its owner’s pharmaceutical wholesale company.

Historians had not been aware of the strange footnote to the Nazi era before a researcher recently found 30 files containing correspondence and diplomatic cables in archives.

Author Klaus Hillenbrand, who examined the files for a German newpaper article to be published today, branded it ‘completely bizarre’, adding: ‘Just months before the Nazis launched their attack on the Soviet Union, they had nothing better to do than to obsess about this dog.’

Jackie’s owner was Tor Borg, a businessman from the Finnish city of Tampere. Mr Borg’s wife Josefine, a German citizen known for her anti-Nazi sentiments, dubbed the dog Hitler because of the strange way it raised its paw high in the air, like German soldiers saluting their Fuhrer

Saudi Arabia is beginning a major internet clamp-down, starting with blogs, forums, news sites, personal websites, electronic archives, chat rooms and online ads.

New regulations were approved by Dr. Abdulaziz Bin Mohee Al-Dien Khoga, the Minister of Culture and Information, which will require licences for the operation of an e-publishing site within the country when the laws come into effect in a month’s time,

Anyone who writes on a blog, online newspaper, or similar form of electronic publishing will be required to meet the following obligations: they must be a Saudi national, over 20, hold a high school or higher qualification, be of good conduct and behaviour, and hold an appropriate licence given by the Ministry.

COUNTERJIHAD CALENDAR RECOGNIZES TODAY AS RECONQUISTA DAY

In 1491, Muhammad XII was summoned by Ferdinand and Isabella to surrender the city of Granada, and on his refusal it was besieged by the Castilians. Eventually, on 2 January 1492, Granada was surrendered. In most sumptuous attire the royal procession moved from Santa Fe to a place a little more than a mile from Granada, where Ferdinand took up his position by the banks of the Genil. A private letter written by an eyewitness to the bishop of León only six days after the event recorded the scene.

With the royal banners and the cross of Christ plainly visible on the red walls of the Alhambra: …the Moorish sultan with about eighty or a hundred on horseback very well dressed went forth to kiss the hand of their Highnesses. According to the final capitulation agreement both Isabel and Ferdinand will decline the offer and the key to Granada will pass into Spanish hands without Muhammad XII having to kiss the hands of Los Royes, as the Spanish royal couple became known. Muhammad XII indomitable mother insisted on sparing his son this final humiliation. The Moorish sultan was received with much love and courtesy and there they handed over to him his son, who had been a hostage from the time of his capture, and as they stood there, there came about four hundred captives, of this who were in the enclosure, with the cross and a solemn procession singing the Te Deum Laudamus, and their highnesses dismounted to adore the Cross to the accompaniment of the tears and reverential devotion of the crowd, not least of the Cardinal and Master of Santiago and the Duke of Cadiz and all the other grandees and gentlemen and people who stood there, and there was no one who did not weep abundantly with pleasure giving thanks to Our Lord for what they saw, for they could not keep back the tears; and the Moorish sultan and the Moors who were with him for their part could not disguise the sadness and pain they felt for the joy of the Christians, and certainly with much reason on account of their loss, for Granada is the most distinguished and chief thing in the world…

Christopher Columbus seems to have been present; he refers to the surrender on the first page of his Diario de las Derrotas y Caminos:

After your Highnesses ended the war of the Moors who reigned in Europe, and finished the war of the great city of Granada, where this present year [1492] on the 2nd January I saw the royal banners of Your Highnesses planted by force of arms on the towers of the Alhambra, which is the fortress of the said city, I saw the Moorish sultan issue from the gates of the said city, and kiss the royal hands of Your Highnesses…

KNESSET DRUSE ARAB MINISTER AYOOB KARA VISITS VIENNA AND THE FPÖ

The Tundra Tabloids friend and colleague, Elisabeth Sabaditch-Wolff asks the TT to publish the following news about a symposium that took place just before Christmas. An Israeli Arab member of parliament, Ayoob Kara,  gave an important speech that needs to be spread throughout the blogosphere. KGS

ESW: The day before Christmas the Freedom Party (FPÖ) invited the interested public to a symposium titled: “Peace in the Middle East – A Pious Hope?” with minister Ayoub, Mr. Strache, Mr. David Lasar and other high-ranking FPÖ officials on the podium.

NOTE: Pic of news clipping provided by ESW

Ayoob Kara:

It is important to cooperate with every element, organization or party to fight terror, religious fundamentalism, which is a problem and danger to the entire world. I want to mee with Europeans because the same thing happened 60 years ago [alluding to the dangers prior to the Nazi takeover of Germany and World War II]. People were naive back then, they are naive now. People are not speaking out loud about the problems. Muslims are killing people everyday, but nothing is happening [no one is reacting].

I want to thank Mr. Strache, FPÖ, and all parties in Europe that Israel is on the frontline [of this war]. In the future there will be organizations in the every corner. Today in Israel, tomorrow in Sweden in Austria, everywhere.

I am not Jewish, but I am more Jewish than the Jews themselves. Non-Jews in Israel feel the same as Jews. I will fight with my Druse friends. They [the Muslims] hate us, they kill [us], and we defend Israel, we fight for Israel. There are only two million of us [Druse]. In Syria, Druse are sent to jail, there is no defense possible.

Other Arab states are sending messages to Israel that they are afraid of Iran and fundamentalism, but they cannot say it publicly. People are afraid because there are no human rights in the Middle East.

We must stop these fundamentalist organizations. Islam says: “We have the solution. All must submit to Islam.” But I like liberal life. They hate my policies. I speak out: I want the world to be free. Seventy years ago, people were quiet and did nothing to stop the situation. I am here today [to say]: Let us stop Islamic fundamentalism together before Iran attacks us. If you are afraid, you cannot stop anything. [But] we must stop this.

In Israel, they are saying: “Why are you going to Austria?”

I say: “Let us be together! I am glad to be sitting here next to my friend HC Strache!”

NOTE: As soon as Strache’s speech is translated, the Tundra Tabloids will publish it here. This is what the FPÖ’s Heinz-Christian Stache said while taking the podium just after Kara’s speech:

Strache’s reply: “I was not in Israel incognito. I was in a dialogue with minister Kara. It is important to have dialogue. Mr. Kara has been criticized heavily by Ariel Muzicant [the leader of the Jewish Faith Community in Vienna]. This is absurd! It is a result of the SPÖ (Social Democratic Party) and its ideology. FPÖ has been denounced for decades. But the ideals of freedom must be defended!.

BREAKING: FOUR ROP’ERS ARRESTED IN ATTEMPTED SUICIDE ATTACK IN DENMARK

IT WAS PLANNED AGAINST THE JYLLANDS-POSTEN

UPDATE: Denmark arrests 4 suspects over planned attack

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) Denmark’s intelligence service says it has arrested four people suspected of planning a terror attack against a newspaper that printed the controversial Prophet Muhammad cartoons. The Danish Security and Intelligence Service says three of the four men were residents of Sweden and had entered the country during the night of Tuesday to Wednesday.

PET have today arrested four men in London suspected of preparing a terrorist attack against Jyllands-Posten in Copenhagen.

It informs Security Intelligence Service (PET) in a press release that has just been released.

Arrests took place partly in an apartment on Mørkhøjvej in Herlev, partly in an apartment in Hedelyparken in Greve. Prior to the arrests has been prolonged monitoring and investigation, which has been implemented in close cooperation between the Swedish security police (Sapo) and PET.

From Sweden to Denmark in the night
Three of the arrested men residing in Sweden and Denmark entered the night of the 28th and 29 December. These are:

A 44-year-old Tunisian national.
A 29-year-old Swedish citizen born in Lebanon.
A 30-year-old Swedish citizen whose origin is unknown so far.
The last of those arrested have resided in Denmark. It is about a 26-year-old Iraqi asylum seeker.

While arrests in Denmark, the Swedish authorities in Stockholm arrested a 37-year-old Swedish citizen of Tunisian origin, according to PET’s press release.

Attack “one of these days”

PET estimates that those arrested were in the process of preparing a terrorist attack directed against a newspaper, “after the pet’s view, the Jyllands-Posten in Copenhagen”. The attack was to be implemented within the next few days, assesses PET.

In connection with arrests in Denmark carried out searches under which, among other things seized plastic strips that can be used as handcuffs and a gun with associated silencer and live ammunition.

PET head: Militant Islamists

“With the arrests we have managed to avert an imminent terrorist attack in which several of the suspects who may be described as Islamic militants with links to international terror networks for PET’s view would try to penetrate the JP / Politiken Hus in Copenhagen and kill as many as possible of the persons present, “said the head of PET, Jakob Scharf.

“Arrests underlines the seriousness of the terrorist threat that is directed against Denmark and especially against the institutions and persons associated with signs inge affair. When it has been possible to avert the concrete terrorist plans, due to the extensive and very intensive exploration efforts in both Sweden and Denmark and not least a highly effective collaboration between the Swedish security police and the Danish intelligence service, “says Jacob Scharf.

Grundlovsfrohør tomorrow

The four arrested will be produced in the preliminary hearing to require detention in the case, said PET. Those arrested are facing charges of attempted terrorism after the Penal Code § 114, see § 21

The planned terror attacks is PET’s perception averted as a result of arrests and the case does not lead to a changed assessment of the terror threat against Denmark, adding PET.

PET continues investigations into the matter in cooperation with Copenhagen Western Zodiac Police and the relevant Swedish authorities.

Perhaps more arrests

“It can not be excluded that in connection with the continuing investigation of the case will be no further arrests,” said PET in the press release.

PET will hold a brief news conference at. 17.00, where PET chief Jakob Scharf and head of Sapo, Anders Danielsson, will report on the arrests.

FINNISH DA WANTS TO APPEAL DISMISSAL OF CHARGE IN HALLA-AHO CASE

Here’s a fact. Finland’s assistant district attorney, Jorma Kalske, and the Finnish legal system that employs him are not interested in the truth. They are solely interested in instituting faulty, politically correct government policies and will use any or all means at their disposal to do so. If it means lying, they will, as they did (under Kalske’s tutelage) in their trumped up case against Jussi Halla-aho earlier this year.

Halla-aho wrote one of the more eloquent essays highlighting the gross inequality and disparency  in how the state treats minorities and majority communities in Finland. Click here for a three part video where he describes his thinking in writing the blog post.

Now Kalske’s at it again, not being satisfied with a guilty verdict on (only) one of the charges, the mind numbingly named, “violating the sanctity of religion”, the assistant  D.A. wants to overturn the lower court’s dismissal of the incitement of a racial group charge. KGS
Jorma Kalske: “Truth is not a defense”

Halla-aho’s blog writing going before the Supreme Court

Assistant district attorney, Jorma Kalske, intends to appeal to the Supreme Court in the case of Jussi Halla-aho’s blog posting. Halla-aho has not yet indicated whether he will seek to appeal the case. Deadline for applying for authorization expires on Tuesday, 28.12.

The assistant district attorney is appealing the Supreme Court of Appeal’s decision to dismiss charges against ethnic agitation.

The Helsinki municipal politician and MP candidate Jussi Halla-aho received at the end of October from the Court of Appeals a fine for violating the sanctity of religion.

According to the Helsinki Court of Appeals, Halla-aho had published an opinion on an Internet site, which was found to have defamed and discredited the sacred institutions of the Islamic communities.

Instead, the charge of inciting against an ethnic group were dismissed, because according to the Court of Appeal the writing as a whole was not considered to have exceeded the allowable exaggeration and provocation threshold.

Bombing wounds 11 at Christmas Mass in Philippines

ArabNews: MANILA: A bomb exploded during Christmas Day Mass at a chapel inside a police camp in the volatile southern Philippines, wounding a priest and 10 churchgoers. The device was hidden in a ventilation window near the ceiling of the chapel, which is on the compound where the provincial police office is located in Jolo town on Jolo Island, Sulu provincial police said.

The island is a stronghold of Al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf militants, but it wasn’t clear who was responsible for the bombing. Investigators recovered parts of a cell phone they believe detonated the device. All of the wounded were civilians. One woman remained at a hospital for observation later Saturday, but police said one did not need hospital treatment and the others have been treated and sent home.

The Rev. Romeo Villanueva, 72, said a newly ordained priest, the Rev. Ricky Bacoldol, who was assisting him, was thrown off his feet by the blast impact and suffered a slight leg injury. “I was reading the Gospel. I was not yet finished when there was a loud explosion,” Villanueva told The Associated Press by telephone.

The roof over the front of the church collapsed and wooden beams and other debris flew in all directions. A portion of the ceiling shielded the organs from the blast, Villanueva said. About 50 people were inside the church but many more were arriving at the time, he said.

President Benigno Aquino III’s spokesman, Edwin Lacierda, said the bombing “violates the basic tenets of respect and peace of all who hold their faith dear.” He said there could be no religious or political justification for the attack. The Philippines is predominantly Catholic, but Christians are a minority in Jolo and nearby island provinces that are majority Muslim.
