THREE men linked to a right-wing pressure group have had their convictions quashed for racially aggravated public disorder.

The trio’s fines were also slashed for behaviour described by a Teesside judge as obnoxious, unnerving, disgraceful, drunken, anti-social and inconsiderate.

They were among six men, all associated with the English Defence League (EDL),

convicted by Teesside magistrates of racially or religiously aggravated disorder last August.

It was alleged the men sang a highly inflammatory religious chant at Middlesbrough railway station.

Jak Beasley, 23, Christopher Caswell, 32, and Dean Spence, 23, appealed against the conviction at Teesside Crown Court yesterday.

This appeal was not opposed by the prosecution as a crucial witness had since emigrated to New Zealand.

The men accepted they committed a lesser disorder offence without the racial element, and appealed against fines imposed by magistrates.

21-year-old jailed for dumping pig’s head at mosque

A 21-year-old man who dumped a pig’s head outside a mosque has been jailed for three months.

Rory Rowbottom left the animal part outside the Muslim place of worship in Pound Street, Newbury, Berkshire, last October.

Rowbottom, of Poffley Place, Thatcham, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment and a Section 4 public order offence at Reading Magistrates’ Court today, Thames Valley Police said.

Lucky Nizami, a representative of the Newbury Mosque Committee, said following the sentencing that the local community was shocked by the incident.

Navarran artist Abel Azcona gets threats because of a work in which he is seen eating pages from the Koran.

His work ‘eating a Koran’ criticizes religious fundamentalism. It is composed by an installation, a video and a performance

The navarran artist Abel Azcona, an international exponent of performance art, is receiving threats as a result of is work “Eating a Koran”, in which he swallows pages of the Muslim holy book.

This belongs to a research project which was started during a seminar about religious fundamentalism and the necessity to “feed ourselves with fiction, lies and fear”. This work is composed by an installation, a performance and a video production, in which the artist spends 6 hours eating a Koran as a critique of religious radicalism. “I believe in freedom of speech, provocation, and artistic freedom, and I will surely continue doing it today, tomorrow, and forever”, Abel Azcona himself commented. He has been threatened by emails and SMS messages.

‘I believe in art as a tool for critique and for setting up debate about identity policy”, the navarran artist adds. He received criticism since he engaged in the world of performance, “but this will never change my way of thinking and working. And what’s more, threats clear my path, and thus I know that I am on the right one”, that is why he will continue using art as a “weapon of criticism for anybody wishing to feel and listen to it”

Abel Azcona, who now is in Iruñea, has worked in Spain, France, UK, Germany, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, USA, The Philippines and Japan. His childhood was marked by mistreatment and abandonment, so now he uses his projects to fight against fear and fundamentalism.

He does artistic installations, videos, photographs, sculptures and appropriated art, and his works are autobiographical, using pain in order to create empathy with his feelings, and using provocation in order to make viewers take part in the process.

He will soon travel to Malaga and in February to Bogotá, where he will spend 2 months with workshops, performances and talks.

Two men have been arrested by police investigating reports a gang claiming to be Islamic vigilantes have been confronting people in the street demanding they throw away alcohol and cover their bare skin.

In one video, posted online, men from the self-styled Muslim patrol in Whitechapel, east London, tell another man “no drink in this area, it’s a Muslim area” before ordering him to pour away his alcohol.

It has been reported that another video shows the group shouting homophobic abuse at a man and tell him “get out of here you fag… don’t stay around here any more”.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Officers investigating a series of incidents that took place over the course of the weekend of 12/13 January in east London, whereby a small group of individuals were seen to approach and harass members of the public at various locations, have arrested two men.

“Videos of the incidents were uploaded onto YouTube.”

A 22-year-old man was arrested in Acton, west London on Sunday, and a 19-year-old man was arrested on Monday after going to an east London police station.

CSIS notes ‘insider threat’ in Islamist extremism

Canada’s spy agency sees the “insider threat” as a rising security risk for Canadians at home and abroad, according to a secret document obtained by CBC News.

Algeria’s Prime Minister Abdul Malek Sallal said Islamist militants who attacked an Algerian gas plant last week included at least one Canadian — and a threat assessment report from the Canadian Security Intelligence Agency points to an upward trend of domestic Islamist extremism.

“Small groups (of) Canadians will continue to be inspired by the narrative and seek to engage in extremist activities both at home and abroad,” reads The Threat Environment to 2025 report obtained by Power & Politics under the Access to Information Act.

The assessment outlines global and domestic threats — and what is driving those trends, from energy and Arctic resources to geopolitical conflicts and the pursuit of nuclear weapons.

The report notes that CSIS has a number of key regional conflicts and failing states it’s keeping an eye on, including North and Western Africa where places like Mali and Algeria have been in the spotlight

Op Ed by Disabled Veteran

I wrote this piece in order to attempt to get a little bit of peace and closure. I have been a reader of this Blog along with many others in the Counter Jihad internet scene. This started as a comment but now I have been asked to turn it into an article. I am very honored to do this. It brings me a feeling like my beliefs, my sacrifices, and my constant pain are not totally in vain.

I was adopted by a wonderful blue collar couple at the age of 9 months. From what I know my birth parents were drug addicts and I was left at the Hospital. My adoptive parents who I will FOREVER consider my REAL Parents, have saved my life many times. My father dropped out of school in the 1950’s in 8th grade to help his family. Growing up my parents gave me a good life, but I did have traits from those birth parents. I was bullied in school like many are today. My solution at 9 years old was to punch my bully in the face in front of the entire class. Little did I know being an angry and dumb kid that turned me into the “bad kid”. I was never bullied again though, but I paid an incredible price for it.

Thank goodness somewhere in my family tree there was some intelligence. I was lucky enough to be a smart kid but angry. Fast Forward to my 18th birthday. I got drunk on a boat at a party and talked to this old man who told me all sorts of war stories about the military and Vietnam. Now with my experience I know he was a liar, a Stolen Valor scumbag, but at 18 his stories led me to show up at the Marine recruiters office Monday morning. He learned I had a police record for fighting a mile long and told me ‘no go’.

The Sailor in the Navy office grabbed me in the parking lot, told me a ton of lies, went to court to get my Juvi record expunged, and got me to sign my life away for 6 years.

I knew nothing about the military. I was a real cherry, scared of boot camp and all. 11 weeks later at Great Lakes IL I graduated as Honor Recruit, Ship 111, Division 444. I watched as tears of pride came down my Fathers eye, a man I constantly let down. He told me on his deathbed it was the proudest day of his life. While boot camp was easy, making my Father cry with pride was a crowning achievement of my life!

I went through some schools, and went to the Green Side Navy. That is Sailors who work in Marine Corps Commands. From then on I was finally home. I belonged. I went 100mph through the next 10 years, with the end goal to become a Master Chief. Living so fast one hardly has safety on your mind so I got hurt a lot. I broke bones, recovered and got hurt again and again. I was happy, life meant something. On 9/11 while terrible, to many of us or at least to me at the time it meant War, and it meant payback for 3000+ Americans, and if it meant my life well, that’s how it goes. Continue Reading →

Mosques, Gavin Boby, and Sam Solomon

Gavin is coming to speak in Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto soon. I have republished part of the ‘Act for Canada’ press release once already but will do so a few times more before the events begin.

One of the most important questions that should be asked by anyone, people on the side of the preservation of liberal democracy for example, (hopefully all of us at Vlad) is,

‘Why should we stop the construction of mosques’?

While Gavin answers this well in his Australian speech, I thought this might be a good time to republish one of my first interviews. June 2010 with Sam Solomon in Ottawa right before he spoke at the International Free Press Society/Free Thinking Films event with Bat Ye’or and David G Littman (RIP)

Here, Sam Solomon, once a well respected sharia legislator in the Islamic world, clearly explains what a mosque is, and what it is not.

The National Post just disclosed that a Canadian Security Intelligence Service’s (CSIS) report stated that “a large number of venues” that are used by Sunni “Islamist extremists” are “radicalizing Canadians” across Canada.  In this Canadian context Gavin Boby’s message is even more relevant.

 

The Muslim Brotherhood, operating in Canada, just purchased a 10,000 square foot building in a Montreal neighborhood. On record, this will be the 4th real estate acquisition in a very short time span. Last fall, the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) was also involved with the establishment of a new Mosque in Quebec City that also needed rezoning. In Edmonton, the Lessard community countered the establishment of a MAC run school in their neighborhood for fear of radicalization. Again, several zoning laws have already been transgressed by the local MAC- run Mosque and in several new Saudi and Muslim Brotherhood linked Mosques that have been built. In Ottawa, MAC is also administering several venues, one of which is the Abraar school that made international headlines because “two teachers (…) who praised a pupil’s essay about killing Jews with hand grenades” were suspended.

 

Why should we be concerned about the Muslim Brotherhood operating in Canada?

 

The former Chair in Islamic Studies at the University of Alberta described how the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood “hoped to change the status of the Mosque, bringing it from a static place of worship to a center of Islamic revolution. “(pp. 76-77)

 

Youssef Qaradawi unconditionally endorsed by leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood operating in Canada describes the role of the Mosque in these words: “To guide public policy of a Nation, raise awareness of critical issues and reveal its enemies. From ancient times the Mosque has had a role in urging Jihad for the sake of Allah.”

The Sunday Times: Theft, and a Hatchet Job Against Gavin Boby

Regular readers are familiar with Gavin Boby of Law and Freedom. For the past couple of years Gavin has been tireless in his opposition to the construction of new mosques in England through action in local planning councils.

Yesterday The Sunday Times published what it must have believed was a hit piece on Gavin. They accused him of “ideological hatred of Islam” and connected him with “the far-right blog Gates of Vienna”.

I can’t show you the whole piece, because it’s behind a paywall. But here’s a screen shot of the top of the article by Richard Kerbaj and Robin Henry:

Gavin Boby, a planning lawyer from Bristol, urges his followers to undermine planning applications for mosques by raising their opposition with councils.

Boby, 48, runs a planning consultancy but under the banner of the Law and Freedom Foundation he also provides a free legal service for those who oppose mosque developments…

More than that I dare not quote, for fear of exceeding “fair use” and violating the copyright of The Sunday Times.

Interestingly enough, the Times itself seems to be a bit slack about copyright.

The photo at the top of the article looked familiar to me. It was obviously taken last July at the Brussels Conference sponsored by ICLA in the European Parliament.

With a little bit of digging, I uncovered the original. It was taken by my good friend Steen of Snaphanen, and posted on his blog last December.

If you look at the full-sized version of the photo, you’ll notice that it is clearly watermarked with “Foto © Snaphanen.dk”.

Trivialities such as copyright are no obstacle to The Sunday Times, however. The editors must have passed the photo on to one of their graphics specialists, who edited out the pesky watermark. Look at the two detail shots below — on the left you’ll see Steen’s original, and on the right is a blowup of the Times’ edited version:

You’ll notice that the graphics editor was a bit sloppy, and left in a fragment of Steen’s © to the left of the microphone.

The evidence is clear. Even an amateur like myself can see that the venerable Sunday Times stole that image from Steen.

‘Mosque buster’ claims he can stop ‘tide of Islam’ by giving free advice on how to block building plans for new places of worship

Daily Mail does a story on our hero, Gavin Boby.

To be clear, a mosque is not a church nor is it any kind of analogue for one. It is a military, legal and political structure. It is for passing decrees, making weapons and storing them when expedient, sending out assassins and planning terrorist attacks, all things you pretty much never see in a church or temple.

Gavin’s mission exemplifies what the PM of England at one point recently referred to as, ‘Muscular liberalism’ even though they would never dare admit it in public for political reasons. Gavin is what all centrists, classical liberals and indeed even those left of center should be supporting if those leftists actually supported the beliefs they purport to.

The mail article downloaded and edited one of my early interview with Gavin but for anyone unaware of who he is and what he is about, watch this recent speech given in late 2012 in Australia.

A planning lawyer and self-styled ‘mosque buster’ claims he is fighting to stop the ‘tide of Islam’ by successfully blocking plans for the building of mosques across the UK.

Gavin Boby, once linked to the far-right English Defence League, boasts he has already blocked plans for 16 out of 17 mosques being built.

Under the banner of the Law and Freedom Foundation, he calls for people to come to him for free professional legal help in opposing mosque proposals and claims that Islam encourages paedophilia, sexual abuse and pimping.

He claims to help followers resist planing applications for mosque developments by raising opposition with councils.

The 48-year-old says in a video posted online: ‘If anyone out there knows of an application for a new mosque, a cultural centre for some phoney community centre or some multi-faith inter-faith harmony institute then let me know.’

Mr Boby, from Bristol, runs a planning consultancy but also provides legal assistant for those who oppose mosque developments, according to the Sunday Times.

On the foundation website he claims to have stopped the construction of 16 out of 17 mosques in total.

England preparing to hand down important precedents concerning critical freedoms.

First, concerning this fine woman. When you watch this, think of all the concessions the government of the UK has made to Muslim employees such as special head and face coverings for Muslim hospital workers etc.
