Dawkins attacks ‘alien rubbish’ taught in Muslim faith schools

So glad to hear some atheists speaking up on issues which they should be the front and center of, but are usually more politically correct than the other religious people.

Attack: Richard Dawkins has criticised the teaching in Islamic schoolsAttack: Richard Dawkins has criticised the teaching in Islamic schools

Richard Dawkins has attacked Muslim faith schools, saying that they teach students ‘alien rubbish’.

The noted atheist claimed that pupils were being taught to ignore scientific evidence in favour of following the Koran.

He said that he had even met a science teacher who believed that the earth was only 6,000 years old.

Mr Dawkins, a former Oxford professor who found fame as an evolutionary biologist before becoming a vocal opponent of religion, is a longstanding critic of all faith schools.

But he has said that Islamic schools are worse than others, as their teaching is more likely to be influenced by a religious agenda. Continue Reading →

Hertz Suspends Muslim Shuttle Drivers for Praying on Company Time

It is about time that someone in the real world started to treat Muslims equally, instead of giving them special rights and privileges, taxing the rest of us for it, and calling that equality. Someone needs to give HRTZ an award for rationality.

From FOX news:

SEATAC, Wash. –  Hertz has suspended 34 Muslim shuttle drivers at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for praying on company time.

The company says the drivers are required to clock out, under terms of a settlement two years ago with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Drivers told The Seattle Times they were sent home last week for praying. Teamsters Local 117, which represents the workers, is trying to get them back on the job.

The union represents about 79 drivers at Hertz who earn between $9 and $10 an hour. About 70 percent of them are Muslims. Observant Muslims pray five times a day.

Swiss parliamentarians vote for burqa ban

For the record, I am way against all these kinds of bans. As much as I appreciate Geert Wilders and all like him in Europe, they are making a serious error. The answer to Islam is more freedom not less. If women want to wear nothing or wear a burka that is their right. And it also should be my right to not allow naked women into my business (or allow), or women wearing the symbols of the greatest oppressive movement possibly of all time, Islam.

Obviously all laws banning covering your face in banks and on public transport and so on simply need to be applied to burkas. In other words, no new laws please. Just stop making exceptions to the ones we already have for Muslims. It is so damn simple.

Swiss parliamentarians vote for burqa ban

Swiss parliamentarians approved on Wednesday a far-right move to impose a ban on the burqa or other face coverings in some public places, including on public transport.

With 101 votes against 77, the lower chamber of the house approved the motion titled “masks off!”.

The draft bill will still have to be examined by the upper chamber.

Put forward by Oskar Freysinger, a politician of the Swiss far-right SVP party, the motion requires “anyone addressing a federal, cantonal or communal authority exercising his or her functions, to present themselves with their faces uncovered.”

Burqas would also be banned on public transport, while “authorities can ban or restrict access to public buildings to such individuals in order to guarantee the security of other users.”

Explaining the motion, Freysinger noted that “at a time when insecurity is growing in our streets, more and more people are hiding their faces behind a balaclava, a mask or a burqa.

“This makes it impossible to identify these people, a fact that is particularly troublesome in case of violence or identity checks,” he noted.

France was the first European Union country to impose a ban on the burqa in public places, while Belgium joined it some months later.

On September 16th, the Dutch government also agreed to a ban on the full Islamic veil under a deal with the far-right party of the anti-immigration MP Geert Wilders.

A bad week for Islam in Europe

From European Son
On Friday, France passed a ban on praying in the streets. The ban came in response to the two thousand Muslims that had been gathering regularly in northern Paris, and praying in the streets in scenes of mass worship. On the same day, the Netherlands proposed legislation outlawing the wearing of the burka in public.

“A general ban on wearing face-restrictive clothing in public is on the way,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement after a cabinet meeting.

“The proposed legislation will ban the wearing of face-covering clothing in the Netherlands in public places including public buildings, educational institutions, hospitals and public transport,” it said in The Hague. Continue Reading →

You’ve probably seen young men wearing their pants — if you’re in the UK, that would be trousers — hanging down beneath their underpants — which are on show to the world. Here’s the history: After a number of suicides in police custody, in the 1970s, individuals arrested in LA were relieved of their belts and shoelaces after arrest, to prevent them… continue reading!

Canadian PM criticized by Islamic group

From Digital Journal

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has been criticized by the Organization for Islamic Cooperation. His remarks regarding the threat of Islamic terrorism were not well received by the OIC who accuse him of stirring controversy.

The Organization of Islamic-Cooperation (OIC), which represents 57 member states as the “collective voice of the Muslim World” has criticized remarks made by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. During an interview with CBC News that aired on Sept. 8, Harper stated that

“The major threat is still Islamicism.” Continue Reading →

From Law and Freedom: Round one to us in Uxbridge!

In June 2011, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association lodged a confident planning application for a – you guessed it! – “community centre” in Uxbridge.

But there is already a community centre next door! We all know how Islam has always bent over backwards to promote wellbeing in the country it inflicts itself upon (whoops! I mean “enriches with its presence”!), but building a new community centre smack next door to an existing one is too much even by their standards. Surely the mosque outfit are not being coy about a mosque proposal?!

Given their confident tone, imagine our surprise when this application was pulled a week ago, and an appeal lodged for “non-determination”. The mosque outfit didn’t want to wait for the Council decision. Fancy that!

Could this have anything to do with the number of objections coming in against the application?

Just to recap: in 2010 the Muslim Association applied to turn the Hillingdon Irish Centre members club into a “community centre”. They withdrew that application rather than get a refusal. But they reapplied in June 2011, this time offering 2 extra car spaces!

Local people objected, and the Law and Freedom Foundation helped them. More local objections went to the Council Planning Department, and the mosque promoters have now taken matters out of the Council’s hands by going straight to appeal. And it’s a “written” appeal, i.e. nowhere for awkward locals to show up and express their points of view.

Technically, you don’t have to wait for a decision in order to appeal against it. But this is rare, especially after the application is still new – less than 3 months old. This mosque outfit didn’t like the reception they were getting, and with good reason.

Remember, these are the guys that stopped the Mosque expansion in England a month or so ago. They do good and important work and deserve our support.

Donald Rumsfeld on our failure to name the enemy in the war on terror

Here is a clip of an interview from Mr. Rumsfeld from today when he was on the Fareed Zakaria show. The whole interview is very good but this clip caught my attention especially. He sounds nearly as clear as Stephen Harper here. As soon as it is ready, I’ll post the whole thing below.

David Solway highlight from Salim Mansur, Ottawa book launch Sept. 10 2011

Ottawa’s Free Thinking Film Society hosted another great night last night featuring Salim Mansur’s new book launch. I will post a great deal more about that as time allows but as today is a majorly busy news day, it may have to wait. Fortunatly there was the usual videographer at the FTFS event who was kind enough to supply me with the footage of the evening, and here is a moment that I really liked.

The whole night will be up and available within a few days, time permitting.
