UPDATE 2: Three killed, 265 arrested at pro-Brotherhood protests across Egypt

Nationwide clashes broke out on Friday between loyalists of deposed president Mohamed Morsi, local residents and security forces, leaving three dead.

According to a statement issued by the interior ministry, the slain were killed in Cairo, Upper Egypt’s Menya and Damietta in the Nile Delta.

The violence took place less than 48 hours after the cabinet declared the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group.

Just heard this on CFRA. Let’s hope Canada and the US follow suit. This might prevent us from needing the Hayekian ‘strong man’ soution typically required when things get as bad as they clearly are going to get.

Egyptian police arrest Brotherhood supporters

Egypt’s security authorities has launched a sweep of arrests of Muslim Brotherhood members and warned that holding a leadership post in the group could now be grounds for the death penalty after it was officially declared a terrorist organisation, stepping up the government’s confrontation with its top political nemesis.

The announcement came as a bomb exploded in a busy intersection in Cairo Thursday morning (local time), hitting a bus and wounding five people. Though small, the blast raised fears that a campaign of violence by Islamic militants that for months has targeted police and the military could turn to civilians in retaliation for the stepped up crackdown.

Egypt names Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group

 I guess this means half the White House Staff would be arrested upon landing in Egypt. Let’s hope Canada follows suit.

CAIRO (AP) — Egypt’s military-backed interim government on Wednesday declared the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group, criminalizing all its activities, its financing and even membership to the group from which the country’s ousted president hails.

The announcement is aimed at crippling the Brotherhood and poses a dramatic escalation of the fight between the government and group, which has waged near-daily protests since the July 3 popularly backed military coup that toppled President Mohammed Morsi.

Three links connecting former Egyptian president Morsi with Al-Qeada

The first telephone recording between Mohamed Morsi and Muhammad Al-Zawahiri was from the presidential institution and lasted for approximately 59 seconds. In that conversation Morsi congratulated Al-Zawahiri on his release from jail and assured him that he won’t be followed or observed by any Egyptian Authorities.

In another call, lasting approximately  ”2 minutes ,56 seconds”, Morsi told Muhammad Al-Zawahiri about the Muslim Brotherhood’s support for Al-Mojahidin (Islamist fighters), a ultra radical Islamic terrorist organization and explained the necessity that Islamist fighters support the Brotherhood  in order to succeed in ruling Egypt.

A third call was recorded a month and a half  later and  discussed  a plan between the presidency institution and the Muslim Brotherhood from one side and Al-Qaeda on the other side, to create terrorists cells inside the country  to protect the Ikhwani regime.

Al-Zawahiri also told Morsi that he must stop building churches, and the Copts must pay “Jizia”—Fees—if they want to live in peace. Al-Zawahiri also said: you should apply the experience of Pakistan and Afghanistan in Egypt, and must execute the secularists!  Morsi replied: We have taken deterrent decisions against secularists and we will put new laws that limit their media, and we have a big budget to set up new TV channels that urge jihad and al-Qaeda ideology.

In October 2013 Albawaba News claimed to be in possession of such recordings where ousted president Morsi committed to al-Qaeda’s leader and made several promises which included avoiding the arrest of Jihadists and personal permission to open training camps for Jihad in the Sinai.

According to unspecified sources such conversations could soon become public, with dramatic consequences for Mohamed Morsi who is currently awaiting trial in a maximum security prison near Alexandria.

I would expect this to have consequences for the Obama administration.

Egypt’s trial: true justice will reveal Morsi’s alliances

(He was as bad as the worst fears we held for him. And as far as I can tell, Obama still backs this guy.)

Once again, Islam uses its predilection for deception abandoning its own values if it means fooling the hated unbeliever. Also notice that many flee in women’s garments. I guess cross dressing is also OK if you have the right motives.

Cairo (AsiaNews/Agencies) – Egyptian authorities yesterday arrested Safwat el-Hegazy and Ali Mourad, two prominent Muslim Brotherhood figures, as they tried to flee abroad. The first, with a trimmed beard and wearing a niqab, a female Islamic garment that leaves only the eyes uncovered, was arrested near Siwa, not far from the border with Libya. The second, wearing western clothing, was caught trying to leave the country on a direct flight to Rome.

Egypt: Islamists hit Christian churches, Franciscan school

CAIRO (AP) — After torching a Franciscan school, Islamists paraded three nuns on the streets like “prisoners of war” before a Muslim woman offered them refuge. Two other women working at the school were sexually harassed and abused as they fought their way through a mob.
