Iraqi women — attacked and fighting for a voice

Activists confront dual powers of religion and tribalism

By Sudarsan Raghavan

updated 4:14 a.m. ET, Sun., Dec. 7, 2008

IRBIL, Iraq – Hawjin Hama Rashid, a feisty journalist in bluejeans and a frilly blouse, had come to the morgue in this Kurdish city to research tribal killings of women. “A week doesn’t pass without at least 10,” the morgue director said, showing Rashid pictures of corpses on his computer screen.

First, a bloated, pummeled face.

Next, a red, shapeless, charred body. “Raped, then burned,” the director said.

Then, another face, eyes half-closed, stab wounds below her neck.

Rashid leaned closer to the screen.

It was the bloody corpse of her best friend, Begard Hussein. Hussein had complained to police about her ex-husband, who had threatened to kill her if she refused to annul their divorce. Rashid had wanted to publish a photograph of her friend’s body after she was killed in April, but officials said none existed. “They lied to me,” Rashid said as she left the morgue, her sorrow fusing with anger.

‘Women are being strangled’
From the southern port city of Basra to bustling Irbil in northern Iraq, Iraqi activists are trying to counter the rising influence of religious fundamentalists and tribal chieftains who have insisted that women wear the veil, prevented girls from receiving education and sanctioned killings of women accused of besmirching their family’s honor.

In their quest for stability in Iraq, U.S. officials have empowered tribal and religious leaders, Sunni and Shiite, who reject the secularism that Saddam Hussein once largely maintained. These leaders have imposed strict interpretations of Islam and enforced tribal codes that female activists say limit their freedom and encourage violence against them.

Why the Nazis score higher than Islam as a colonizing force.

As I have written a few times on Vlad one of the great errors people make historically (and as a general rule) is failure to understand when a series of events represents policy as opposed to isolated and seemingly bizarre disconnected actions.

When the Taliban blew up the Buddha sculptures in Afghanistan some years ago the world was somewhat shocked. This was a pre 911 world of course and compared to today we were easily horrified. (Would be good to have those times back). In any case most decided this was an atrocious action by a small group of crazies and the religious rationale couldn’t be used. They explained it, we decided they where crazy. After all Islam couldn’t possibly be what they claimed it was. We all knew that it was a minority religion mostly followed by third worlders therefore it had to be earth friendly nicely collectivist and above all tolerant and diverse. We confused our religion with theirs.

However this story out of Bangaladesh shows how policy is being implemented all over now, not just in Afghanistan or England anymore.

The policy is, No image of any creature Allah made, and according to Islam Allah made everything, may be allowed to be made or exist.

This means no sculpture no photos no drawings and Im pretty sure we already know, certainly no cartoons.

In Iran after the revolution the ayatollah arranged to have over 100,000 dancers and artists killed and many hundreds of thousands more went into exile out of Iran. The students who were mostly secular at the time had no clue what Islam was all about and where quite shocked. They where mostly men and women who where educated and for the most part secular. They had no idea what an ‘Islamic state’ was about according to many and just thought they where getting rid of the Shaw. To their horror, the Shaw was a far far better deal than the new revolutionary Islamic state.

During the few short years of WW2, the Nazis went around Europe and stole all the art they felt was any good. The idea was that all art of consequence should be in Berlin. I am certainly not arguing that the Nazi appreciation for art was good or that it was preferable to a free society but the comparison between Nazism and Islam needs to be made and the Nazis are actually preferable on some scores even if its a -98 nazi’s Vs. a -100 for Islam.

Both ideologies want to kill all the jews.

Both Ideologies wish to dominate the world and destroy any opposition.

The Nazis lasted less than 10 years. Islam has been manifesting similar policies and committing genocides since the seventh century BC.

The Nazis wish to dictate what art is acceptable and how and where. The Muslims wish to stamp out all art everywhere as blasphemy and kill its perpetrators. Often by stoning to death in long and elaborate brutal rituals.

A quick google search for ‘Muslims attack Art’ gives enough results to satisfy any doubters to the facts of the Islamic view on the world of art if Koran itself does not as well as Islam’s other manifestos. No image of anything their god allah made may be allowed to exist and where Muslims have the numbers and authority art will be destroyed.

The left in the west has been hoodwinked again as this recent New York Times article shows about the Mumbai attacks. Exactly as in Iran they imagine the Islamists are useful idiots helping to overthrow capitalism and other illiberal ideas. The Muslims see the left the same way but once they win together its the guys holding the guns who set the rules.

At least if the Nazi’s had won the survivors could have a ham and cheese sandwich and a beer. Who knows maybe even a cigarette after in the same chair.

(Below the fold please see an article written about the absurdities of the New York Times continual pandering to the forces of tyranny. As they lied for Stalin during the cold war, they lie for Islamic terrorists today.)

Canada’s grand mufti-in-waiting is reinvigorated with a new mission

Muhammed Elmasry of the Canadian Islamic Congress just can’t sit still. No doubt stung by the fact that he is now considered one of the nation’s consummate losers by having failed to succeed in all three Human Right’s Commission cases launched against Maclean’s magazine, he is now on a fresh, new mission. The biggest boil on the backside of Canada’s media butt may have been lanced, but it continues to fester.

“The first point that I did learn from this exercise is that Islamophobia is alive and well in Canada, in the media and also in politics,” he said. ” In all of this, we’ve been victimized”.

Since filing the complaints in three Canadian jurisdictions, Elmasry reflected that he made the right decision, taking full credit for sparking the debate and the ensuing massive public outcry. Yet, not one to miss an opportunity to blame others for his failure, he squarely cited inappropriate pressure by the media and politicians for the commission’s wrong decisions.

Elmasry seeks to lobby the government and to glean support from what he refers to as the “sympathetic ears in Parliament” to create a National Media Council, similar to the existing Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). The Council would oversee print and online media. Ostensibly, this group would provide an outlet for complaints and a forum for fairness and professionalism. The recent failure behind him, combined with renewed vigor, a beefed up ego and legal beagles in tow, his intention is to demand restrictions on what his organization considers a foul media.

Who exactly would define fairness and professionalism? The experts at the CIC and their league of Islamist cohorts? When we factor in the reality that an entire section of Dr. Elmasry’s web site is devoted to monitoring the media and endlessly scouring for perceived Islamophobic sentiment, this proposal is a frightening notion. His ideal of ‘hate-free free-speech’ is a preposterous idea that would discriminate against the reporting of the facts, the news and ultimately, the truth.

Consider this. In a lengthy document, the CIC has listed terminology that they believe should be discouraged and eventually removed from any reporting concerning terrorism or fundamentalism. Any journalist, reporter, writer or editor from any Canadian news outlet would be left condemned and deemed a bigoted rogue for using any of the listed offensive terms. Here is a partial list of offensive words the CIC considered as of 2002, as ‘anti-Islamic’, descriptions that are offensive to Muslims and by extension, Islam:

Armed Islamic group, Canadian-based Islamic extremist, Islamic regime, Islamic dictatorship, extremism, fighters, fundamentalists, hard-liner, insurgency, insurgent, suicide bomber, terrorist, terrorist cell, Islamic organization, Islamic government, activist and rebel. I believe these words used alone without the accompanying tags of Islam or Muslim may be o.k…..? The CIC would conclude that the inclusion of these descriptions would be the workings of a racist media whose only motivation is to create and foster cultural and ethnic disharmony and to victimize yet once again, Canada’s Muslim community. Reporting the facts is apparently a secondary hobby for the nation’s news outlets.

Is it hateful to describe a person who has just set off a bomb in a crowded bazar aimed at innocents while screaming Allahu Akbar! an Islamic terrorist? Is it hateful to label an imam of a mosque who degrades western values and openly discourages the breaking of Canada’s laws an Islamic fundamentalist? Or, should future news headlines instead read:

“Some unnamed, not-a-white guy with a bomb kills 30. We cannot comment further. The sensitivity for, well-being of and protection for his identity, community, religion, culture and traditions must be maintained”. Or,

“Some unnamed, not-a-white guy in an unnamed building makes up his own rules. We cannot comment further. The sensitivity for, well-being of and protection for his identity, community, religion, culture and traditions must be maintained”.

I can in fact, use the term ‘white’ in these ludicrous headlines, since Elmasry asserts that offending white people is not as serious as offending minorities, particularly Muslims, because the white majority is “anchored”. “If somebody makes a joke that you’re white, who cares? he quips.

Another segment in the lengthy analysis reads: “Anti-Islam in the media feeds ‘Image Distortion Disorder’ “. The CIC contends ‘ the distorted perception that Islam condones and encourages violence is largely created by the media and it leads to societal anxiety among Canadians. It is particularly dangerous in Canada within it’s multi-ethnic, multi-faith and multi-cultural populations and invariably leads to discrimination, hate-mongering, acts of vandalism and false accusations by the authorities’.

Wait. Canada’s entire population consists of multi-ethnic, multi-faith and multi-cultural people. Are we to conclude then that all Canadians suffer from Image Distortion Disorder?

Let me ask you this: if you cover dog shit with candied sprinkles, is it still dog shit?

In western nations Islamists work diligently to ensure that under no circumstances should Islam be connected to terrorism or extremism, an aim whose purpose lies solely in the unyielding desire for the distortion of fact. In short, the truth must become a lie and the lie must become a truth. The creation of a National Media Council would be a welcome addition in this endeavor. So would sharia.

I have heard many claim that groups like the CIC want to stifle free speech. Others claim they want to shut it down. I disagree. They have no intention of shutting down an existing press that they would gladly control. They do intend however, to manipulate the public into believing they have been so ridiculed, demeaned and targeted that additional restrictions on print and online media are necessary, with of course, the aid and guidance of a panel of Islamic experts… such as themselves. Additionally, a government seal of approval from the “sympathetic ear” crowd on Parliament Hill would help things along quite nicely. Extremism then would simply be inheriting an already well functioning institution, one to be re-fashioned, re-tooled and tweaked to suit radical Islam and the realities of sharia. There would be no stifling of free speech as long as the merits of Islam and the benevolence of the prophet were the priority. Any discourse deemed un-Islamic would simply not be tolerated. Welcome to Saudi Arabia.

Back to the candied dog shit. Dr. Elmasry also plans to lobby for a review of media concentration, ( I assume concentration refers to the ownership of Canada’s news outlets by Jews), calling it ” the antithesis of democracy”. Of course his famous statement of 2004 regarding Israelis as legitimate targets of terrorism was misunderstood, a mistake on the part of infidel ignorance. (I probably misunderstood the above white comment too).

The CIC  I believe, is an organization obsessed with creating and promoting victimhood within the Muslim community. They and other groups of their ilk, are nothing more than political activist organizations working steadily on behalf of sharia. If, as Mr. Elmasry boasts that he indeed does represent 70% of Canadian Muslims, which may or may not be the case, then the majority are being represented by a fanatic of tremendous proportion and equal danger; a disservice to them far more damaging than any descriptions of terror or Islam.

“I don’t want the media to be a public relations arm for the Canadian Islamic Congress. It’s unrealistic. Or to promote Islam. Or to promote Muslim causes. Or to be a propaganda tool for the XYZ issue. What I want is for them to be fair”  Professor Elmasry states.

Candied sprinkles anyone?

The cowardice & misogyny of Islamic extremism

In mid November two men on a motorcycle tossed acid in the faces of young Afghani girls walking to school in Khandar as punishment for wanting to be educated. The group of schoolgirls some as young as fourteen, have all been disfigured for life with two permanently blinded. All of their mothers insist they will not allow their daughters to continue their schooling for fear they will be either maimed again, or eventually murdered for the offence.

George Petrolekas and Mike Capstick write in an editorial in today’s Ottawa Citizen:

” And as punishment, at least two of those girls will never see the light of day again; their friends and countless hundreds of other little girls equally condemned to a lesser life as the very fear of venturing outside their homes denies them a future as surely as the acid in the eyes has accomplished. And to that end, it is no different than the torching of schools, the beheading of teachers and the intimidation of parents”.

I predict that this recent example of human depravity will sink to the bottom of our collective conscience like the many other countless examples of terrorism have found themselves. Worse, it will provide one more opportunity for the apologizers of terror to which there are many, to spin their usual, pap and nonsense. Common catch phrases such as ‘root cause’, ‘ cultural misunderstanding’, the ‘resistance to western influence’, ‘religious hijacking’ or ‘religious misinterpretation” will all surface by the usual suspects to explain away the revolting and bizarre tactics of those who would impose horror at every turn, every day, against innocents. For those who work diligently to convince the world community turn a blind eye to the insufferable inhumane treatment of these girls and who would deny the Islamic religious component of these atrocities, the media will once again be labelled as an ‘islamophobic, Zionist institution with a never ending anti-Islam bent’. Blah, blah, blah.

What sheer and utter nonsense.

To entertain this piety is to abandon the clear plight of women and girls in Afghanistan and to condone the oppressive and suffocating lives these women are forced to endure. While fomenting imams in North American and European mosques spew their transplanted misogynist rhetoric with near carte blanche ease, many Western politicians work over time to bastardize long established Western values to accommodate these extremist, retrograde views that continue to deny women lives of dignity, freedom and the right to fulfill their full potential as equal human beings. Misogyny is an undeniable constant in much of the Middle East. While all this dialogue dithering, religious sentimentality and cultural tolerance is hashed out across America and Europe, these Afghan mothers and daughters must surely feel an overwhelming sense of abandonment.

I cannot understand the passive response, excuses and warped justifications made in reference to such incidents, especially by many western women’s rights groups. Is gender equality a quality of life notion which should only be guaranteed for western women? Why do these medieval tyrants deserve an ounce of consideration or their backers access to fair dialogue? How many western mothers would be willing to barter the well being of their own daughters away for cultural, religious sentiment? Zero? All?

Messrs. Petrolekas and Capstick continue: “this day, girls won’t go to school for fear, not because they don’t belong there, but because misogynist terrorists have made the decision for them”. ‘For the sake of another generation we must not forget these girls, as their unseeing eyes exhort us to do more; we cannot let our own granddaughters conclude that we stood about and did nothing’.

Pay Attention to the Somalis. Townhall.com

It’s a good thing the US doesn’t adhere to Canadian logic or worse, Toronto. None of this could be known or told in Canada and none of the tests to determine legitimacy of the claims could legally be done I would guess. The Somali experiment has failed in Canada with police forces using strategies such as FIDO (Fuck it and drive on) when they see crimes in progress by Somalians as they know the perpetrators will claim racism and the officer will be in more trouble for enforcing the law than the criminal will be for breaking it.

I know this to be true from what media does manage to get written about it of course but also from having witnessed a small riot myself where police acted against those who attempted to defend their own property and the media was prevented from writing or communicating about it even though some was present at the event.

Diana West :: Townhall.com Columnist

President Bush has been “briefed,” as they say, about the extraordinary spate of Somali piracy that culminated this week in the seizure of the Sirius Star. Incredibly, this Saudi supertanker loaded with crude oil destined for the United States now joins a commandeered fleet of about a dozen ships and 200 crew being held by Somali pirates who, according to Jane’s Terrorism and Security Monitor, may well have links to jihadists.

I’m wondering whether President Bush, at any point in his briefing, ever thought to ask his experts: “What is up with Somalia?”

I say this given the disjointed but unmistakable prominence of Somalis in recent news. Or, rather, in what would have been recent news, maybe, if the media weren’t preoccupied with more weighty stories such as which Washington private school the Obama girls will attend next semester.

Within the last week, for example, the State Department confirmed that massive immigration fraud has been perpetrated overwhelmingly by Africans claimed as close kin (parent, spouse, minor child) by legal residents in the United States. (According to a report in the City Pages in Minneapolis, this scam has been netting some unknowns along the food chain up to $10,000 per head.) Given that Somalis form the largest bloc of African immigrants to the United States, this becomes another story with Somalis playing a starring role.

Evidence of “family” fakery came out in a very quietly released State Department fact sheet titled “Fraud in the Africa Priority Three (P-3) Program.” This release surely would have dropped into the post-Election, pre-Inauguration void of bliss enveloping official Washington were it not for the invaluable blog Refugee Resettlement Watch, which broke the story online.

In the form of a Q&A, the State Department declared that, due to evidence of massive fraud, the government was suspending the family reunification program in Africa, a decision it has since, also very quietly and without explanation, expanded to include the whole world.

How massive was this fraud? After initiating a DNA testing program among “family” members claiming P-3 status in Africa — where 95 percent of the P-3 applications originate primarily among Somalis, Ethiopians and Liberians — the State Department learned that out of 3,500 refugees tested it could only confirm family matches “in fewer than 20 percent of cases.” No wonder the secretary of State didn’t call a giant press conference to trumpet her department’s findings.

The P-3 program has brought upward of 36,000 Africans into the United States just since 2003 (with another 400 arriving from the rest of the world), so what now? Or, in Fact Sheet-speak:

“Q: What measures will be taken against the thousands of refugees who have come into the United States through the P-3 program in the last 20 years?

“A: That is a question for the Department of Homeland Security.”

Punt.

Even as the State Department sends responsibility for this demoralizing incompetence into the ozone, the apparent consequences stay fixed on the ground — whether in the meatpacking plants of small-town America, where this year’s Ramadan was the occasion for workplace strife with mainly Somali Muslims striking over demands for Islamic prayer breaks, or in big-time politics.

In Minnesota, the largest Somali Muslim community in the United States (numbering tens of thousands of people) now holds a key to state political power. This same Somali community has made news before, for example, with attempts by Somali taxi drivers to enforce aspects of Islamic law (Sharia) in refusing to transport passengers with alcohol or seeing-eye dogs due to Islamic prohibitions against alcohol and dogs. But now, as the U.S. Senate race goes to an automatic recount after Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., defeated Democratic challenger Al Franken by a 215-vote margin, Minnesota’s Somali community is again making a few headlines.

Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., who famously swore his 2007 oath of office on the Koran as the first Muslim elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, routinely declares that his 7,000-vote margin of victory came from Somali Muslims. Last month, Ellison was campaigning for that same Somali Muslim vote on behalf of Al Franken.

And what’s newsworthy about that? In this case, the point is not that Ellison was campaigning for the Somali vote, but rather with whom he was campaigning.

According to AsianTribune.com, after Ellison made a standard, if Somalii-oriented campaign pitch on behalf of Franken before a gathering of Minnesota Somalis, another speaker appeared before the crowd. Described in the report as a “highly regarded prominent Somali traditional leader” — i.e., a Somali leader from Somalia, not Minnesota — Abdullahi Ugas Farah spoke on behalf of the Ellison-Franken cause. “In order for Keith to be helpful to the situation in Somalia, you must also elect Al Franken to the Senate,” he said.

Now, there’s something new on the American hustings: a “Somali traditional” leader. Curious, I Googled Abdullahi Ugas Farah and came up with one news story, a 2003 brief from the Asia Africa Intelligence Wire headlined, “New Islamic court opens in Mogadishu.” The story reported that Abdullahi Ugas Farah was one of two speakers who presided over the opening ceremony for a new Sharia court in Mogadishu’s Shirkole area.

From Sharia courts in Mogadishu to an Al Franken rally in Minnesota.

Only in … America?

Toronto Star: UPS Toronto Muslim HRC case settled.

As you can see in the picture, one of the women who sued UPS in the Human Rights Court for forcing her not to wear long flowing skirts in a high risk area where her religion demands it, left the HRC tribunal in long pants and high heels. Two items that Islam strictly forbids for women.

Also the article says that everyone is very happy.

I am not. This is a disgusting abuse of process and western justice in practice and in principle. It is decay of any meaningful sense of reason and fairness.

8 Muslim women claimed discrimination in firing

Nov 17, 2008 11:40 AM

Eight Muslim women who filed a human rights complaint against the United Parcel Service (UPS) over a dress code dispute, have settled with the company.

“Everyone is very happy,” said Jacquie Chic, lawyer for the complainants, after announcing the agreement at a Canadian Human Rights tribunal this morning.

Chic would not discuss the terms of the settlement. The file will be closed once copies of the agreement are sent to the tribunal, said Karen Jensen, panel chair for the tribunal.

The women, all devout Muslims lost their jobs in 2005 because they refused to hike their skirts above the knee over their long pants. They argued that Islam requires them to be fully covered for modesty and alleged discrimination on the basis of religion and gender.

UPS said the ankle-length skirts were a safety hazard as workers climb ladders up to six metres high. Only “a gap in the process” allowed the women to work there for up to two years without being told their clothing posed a risk, a UPS manager previously told the tribunal.

The issue grew more complicated when The Star revealed that the mosque the women cited as a religious authority is disseminating slurs against Jews and Western society. As reported in today’s Star, the Muslim Canadian Congress is calling for the charitable status of the Somali Islamic Society of Canada, which owns the Khalid Bin Al-Walid mosque, to be stripped.

The mosque preaches strict adherence to Islamic law and no compromise with the West.

What is ‘freedom’ exactly?

Today’s posting about the Toronto Mosque and the lawsuit through the HRC against UPS demands a clear defining of exactly what is meant by ‘freedom’ if we want to have any hope of defending western liberal democracy.

Freedom: A jurisdiction where people are not in danger of state persecution for their beliefs words ideas or politics.

Thats is it. An idea which is as important as it fragile. Freedom does not mean anyone is obliged to bend to the sensitivities of others in order not to offend them. UPS is not obliged to change its dress code to suit eight Muslim women who wish to wear a long shapeless dress anymore than a strip joint is obliged to hire a nun and let her work the pole in a full habit.

In a free society people have something rare and precious in the history of civilization and even human encampments. Choice.

A Nun can decide she wishes to spend her life in a traditional Catholic habit and take the consequences of the limitations that result. She can also decide not to wear the habit and work the chrome pole at the Playmate.

The same can be said of the Sikh who insisted he wear the turban while in the RCMP. He had that most precious thing the world has to offer. Choice. Instead he opted for the removal of the choice of others in the name of tolerance or ‘reasonable accommodation’ while in fact displaying gross intolerance to the rest of his country.

The eight Muslim women are free to ignore the rules of Islam and continue to work at UPS under their rules of dress or they are free to quit that job and dress like mail boxes should they choose to. This as I have stated already is a miracle of human accomplishment to allow this kind of latitude to people within a nation.

UPS is using the defense that a long flowing shapeless garment is dangerous in their work environment and Im sure thats true. It remains a gutless and pathetic defense. UPS needs none in fact. They have the right to demand whatever dress code for any arbitrary reasons they choose to the exact extent that people have the right to choose not to work for them. In fact the sacredness of the belief should ring an alarm bell rather than allow for greater accommodation. History is the great teacher of this.

During the Spanish inquisition people where not free for example, to practice Judaism. However Jews where free do not have the right to force the company cafeteria not to serve pork and keep kosher dishes. They are free to open a business of their own and have whatever rules they wish. This is perfect freedom and something we have achieved in the western world only recently and at great expense in blood and resources.

When a Jewish community center in Montreal demanded that a YMCA cover its windows so as not to distract students at the school they where way off the mark. The Jewish school if it felt it didn’t like the view was free and is free to frost remove or cover their own windows. This is freedom at its apex.

Islam by far is making the most demands for accommodations at the expense of the rest of society and for all nations in the world where Muslims are a little over one percent. The cost of twisting the logic of secular democracies to allow for this is a fast track back to the middle ages and as they where perceived to be, more than likely how they actually where. In fact its a fast track back to something much worse. Saudi Arabia as it is today and eventually, Somalia.

Toronto Star: Mosque slurs jews and infidels while demanding special rights for itself

Mosque fights for rights, but slurs Jews and West

STEVE RUSSELL/TORONTO STAR
Khalid Mosque supports a complaint by eight women, including two above, who say they lost their jobs for refusing to raise their skirts above knee.

Staff Reporter

A mosque asking that Canadian workplaces respect a strict Muslim dress code is at the same time disseminating slurs against Jews and Western societies, and warning members against social integration.

The Khalid Bin Al-Walid Mosque near Kipling Ave. and Rexdale Blvd. serves as the religious authority for eight Somali women complaining to the Canadian Human Rights Commission that UPS Canada Ltd. violated their religious rights at a sorting plant. The mosque, founded in 1990 and serving upwards of 10,000 people, preaches strict adherence to sharia, or Islamic law, and no compromise with the West.

Teachings on the mosque’s website, khalidmosque.com, refer to non-Muslim Westerners as “wicked,” “corrupt” and “our clear enemies.”

Sometimes Jews are singled out.

“Is it permissible for women to wear high-heeled shoes?” begins one posting in question-and-answer format. “That is not permissible,” comes the reply. “It involves resembling the Disbelieving Women or the wicked women. It has its origin among the Jewish women.”

Modern pastimes are condemned.

“What is the ruling on subscribing to sports channels?” another question begins. “Watching some of the female spectators, when the camera focuses on them time after time” stirs “evil inclinations,” the lesson reads. “Some (players) may not even believe in Allaah.”

Mosque leaders refused repeated requests for an interview.

A disclaimer on the website says questions and answers do not necessarily reflect the mosque’s views. But the About Us page says: “All questions and answers on this site (are) prepared, approved and supervised by (the mosque’s imam) Bashir Yusuf Shiil.”

The mosque’s stand on the UPS case also appears contradictory.

In September, a Canadian Human Rights Tribunal heard two weeks of testimony from eight mosque members alleging “Islamophobia” at the company’s west Toronto plant. Three final days of testimony are scheduled for next week.

The eight women, who lost their jobs at UPS, say Islam dictates that they wear a full-length skirt for modesty. The courier company insists that any skirt be knee-length for safety, as workers climb ladders up to 6 metres high.

Under their skirt, the women wear full-length trousers but say they do not want the lower part showing in case the shape of the calf can be discerned.

The complaint originally centred on the company’s use of temporary workers and uneven enforcement of its safety rules.

But the key question remains: Is UPS insisting on shorter hems for safety or is it violating religious rights by denying the women permanent jobs unless they conform?

So far, no Khalid Bin Al-Walid Mosque representative has attended the sessions, but the women cited the mosque as their place of worship and religious authority, and tabled a letter from its administration. “This is to certify that the religion of Islam requires all Muslim women to cover her entire body inclusive of the legs, arms, head, ears and neck,” the letter reads. “As such, (the women) would not be able to wear pants as an outfit.”

On the other hand, the mosque’s website teachings forbid women to work outside the home in the first place. “It is known that when women go to work in the workplaces of men, this leads to mixing with men,” one such posting says.

“This is a very dangerous matter,” it reads. “It is in clear opposition to the texts of the Shariah that order the women to remain in their houses and to fulfill the type of work that is particular for her …

“We ask Allah to protect our land and the lands of all Muslims from the plots and machinations of their enemies.”

Two of the women making the complaint – Dales Yusuf, 46, and Nadifo Yusuf (no relation), 36 – said in an interview that they live in Canada now, and are free to pick and choose from Islamic law.

“We must work,” said Dales Yusuf. “I’m a single parent raising my kids.” Jacquie Chic, a lawyer with the Workers’ Action Centre representing the women at the hearings, said neither she nor her clients were aware of the mosque’s posted teachings. “I, the Workers’ Centre and these women are concerned enormously about any expression of anti-Semitism or any other form of racism,” she said.

Questions to the mosque about its teachings were met with evasiveness over three weeks.

Mosque chairman Osman Mohamed three times agreed to an interview and three times cancelled at last minute. Imam Shiil was said to be in Saudi Arabia and unreachable. Mosque administrator Abukar Mohamed confused matters further by appearing to agree with UPS, saying: “The Quran says women must be covered – it doesn’t give you the specific clothes. But I am not a religious authority.”

TEACHINGS WARN OF ‘WICKEDNESS OF WESTERN IDEOLOGY’

Further teachings found at khalidmosque.com, official website of Khalid Bin Al-Walid Mosque in western Toronto:

Islamic guidelines to women.

The enemies of Islam know the importance of Hijab and the value of remaining at home … They therefore vehemently attack Hijab … They hate Islam and us. They wish to see our demise and downfall.

What is the ruling regarding a head scarf (that fails to cover ears and neck)?

The head scarf is a compromise and there is no such thing in Islam!

Save the women.

Once (a Muslim woman) becomes introduced to the wickedness of Western ideology and concepts … (she) becomes fixated on trying to appear and act like her “role models” of corruption.

What is Islam’s position on female circumcision?

It is an honour for women but not obligatory.

Is it permitted for a Muslim woman to pierce her nose?

It serves no purpose, and causes pain and mutilation.

Excessive laughter.

This problem is widespread, especially among the youth.

School girls burned with acid: Islam’s answer to higher education

There is nothing more threatening to an Islamist than an educated woman. Yesterday a group of young teenaged school girls had acid sprayed in their faces by two men in the western outskirts of Khandahar City. It is no secret that adherents and proponents of fundamentalist Islam work diligently to deny girls education, with the exception of course, of an approved and monitored knowledge in the rules of obedience and subservience.

Islamic law has always held women as second class citizens with fatwas issued on a regular basis to ensure this subservient class remains intact. Sharia is an insurance policy on behalf of men that maintains male superiority resulting in ongoing discrimination and oppression of women; the basic tenets of misogynistic control, insecurity, fear, mass ignorance and a relentless adhesion to power.

Recently I came across an article from Kurdistan where the government legislature has revised it’s polygamy laws at the request of women’s rights groups concerned with the many resulting dysfunctional family patterns and the psychological abuse of mothers and children living in such marital arrangements. Although the abolishment of polygamy was not granted altogether, the new law states that a man may take only two wives, contrary to the past law which entitled him to three or four. Women’s groups realizing that their call for total abolishment was not successful, conceded that it was in fact a step forward and remain determined to pressure the government to do away with the practice of polygamy altogether. The comment section illustrates the resistance to change with many commentators, mainly men, charging “blasphemy!” and an infiltration of “the evils of western feminism!”.

Melanie Phillips on UK Sharia financing. Saudi seeks more control

Daily Mail, 10 November 2008

With all eyes fixed upon the political excitements in the U.S, few have paid much attention to a trip made by the Prime Minister several thousand miles in the opposite direction.

A week ago Gordon Brown, accompanied by his new best friend the Business Secretary Lord Mandelson, went cap in hand to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states to ask them to help bail out the stricken economies of the West by pumping billions into the International Monetary Fund.

It is more than a little strange that the British Prime Minister should have apparently taken it upon himself to speak on behalf of the IMF. But the real concern is that asking for help from Saudi Arabia is not like tapping your friendly neighbourhood bank manager for a bigger overdraft.

No, this loan comes with a devastating IOU — nothing less than a big slice of control over Britain and the West by a regime at the heart of the attempt to bring about the Islamisation of the free world.

Granted, this country is facing a truly grave financial crisis. But does this mean we should remortgage the future of the West to those whose most radical elements are actively engaged in seeing it destroyed?

I have long been concerned by Britain’s failure to acknowledge the true nature of the threat from global Islamism. This latest move is yet more alarming evidence of that process.

Saudi Arabia is at the root of the Islamic onslaught against the West. It is Saudi’s Wahhabi form of Islam which, along with its Shi’ite counterpart in Iran, aims to restore the dominance of Islam in the world and destroy rule by ‘unbelievers’.

The Islamist Role in the 2008 Canadian Elections

If you are Canadian and Islamist, you probably voted for the New Democratic Party (NDP), which won 18.2% of the vote on October 14, 2008. This was an increase in of about 1% in the vote and led to seven more seats from the 2006 elections. However, the party could not budge itself from its permanent 4th place in Canada’s parliament. Endorsed by the Canadian Islamic Congress (CIC), the left-leaning NDP has shown an incredible lack of understanding of the Islamist agenda and how soft jihadis are using democratic institutions by manipulating our respect for multiculturalism.

As a political ideology, in the long-term Islamism seeks to establish an Islamic state in the North America, but this is barely mentioned by the suave and polished young Islamists who appear in expensive suits and with a flourish of legalese and the right disarming accents. While a Taliban style overthrow is unlikely, in the short term, Islamists hope to fundamentally change western foreign policy in favor of the foreign governments that fund them and organizations they ideologically adhere to, such as the Muslim Brotherhood.

Recognizing this threat, Marc Lebuis, who runs “Point de Bascule“, invited moderate Muslims Tarek Fatah, Salim Mansur and me to participate in a conference in Montreal to address the infiltration of Islamists into the Canadian political system, where the first real arena has been the NDP.
