Controlled explosion carried out near new US embassy in London

Police have carried out a controlled explosion after being alerted to two unattended vehicles near the new US embassy in Wandsworth, south-west London.

Police used a bomb disposal robot for the controlled explosion of a red van parked next to the unopened building on Ponton Road at 5.37pm on Wednesday.

Specialist officers were at the scene along with ambulance and fire service vehicles and cordons were in place.

The Metropolitan police said the vehicles were not suspicious and the roads would be reopened soon. Residents had been told to stay indoors and the car park of the nearby Waitrose supermarket was also closed.

 

Notre Dame Cathedral: Man attacks officer with hammer, police say

A man with a hammer attacked a police officer in front of Nortre Dame Cathedral in Paris Tuesday afternoon, causing officials to shut down the area, Paris police confirmed to Fox News.

Paris police said a “number of police” are at the square in front of the cathedral. They urged people to avoid the area.

The officer defended himself from the attacker by firing two shots. The attacker is on the ground, police said. It’s unclear if he is dead or wounded.

One of the London Bridge attackers appeared alongside two notorious Islamist preachers in a TV documentary.

He was filmed at extremist events alongside Mohammed Shamsuddin, who has publicly hailed his support for Islamic State.

Shamsuddin, who has claimed state benefits since he was 18, has also called for Sharia law in the UK and made chilling warnings about a ‘backlash’ by British Muslims.

He was also pictured with Abu Haleema, who was accused of radicalising a British schoolboy who was convicted over a plot to behead police officers during an Anzac Day parade in Australia.

A full on assault is taking place at the Hotel Airport area of Manila, a place frequented by tourists and expats in the Philippines. Many are reported wounded by gunfire.

The shooting unfolded at around midnight local time at the Resorts World Manila in Pasay City.

Eywitnesses heard explosions and gunfire around the resort.

The attack was carried out by “unidentified men” the resort said.
