Iranians arrested for posing as Italian cops

(ANSA) – Padua, May 2 – Five Iranians have been arrested after allegedly posing as police officers in order to rob motorists in northern Italy.

Traffic police in the Veneto region arrested the men Thursday after a high-speed chase, during which an officer was injured. Police said they recovered 10,500 euros and 10,000 Swiss francs, in addition to Albanian driving licences, counterfeit residency permits from Spain and four cars.

Two Iranians were found guilty by a Kenyan court Thursday for possessing explosives allegedly for use in bomb attacks.

 

Ahmed Mohammed and Sayed Mansour, who were arrested last June, were found guilty of possessing 15 kilos (33 pounds) of the powerful explosive RDX. The court said they had suspected links to a terror network planning bombings in Mombasa and Nairobi, the AFP news agency reported.

Iran has essentially crossed the “red line” set by Israel for its nuclear activity, and the coming few months will be a crucial period, Maj. Gen. (res.) Amos Yadlin, a former head of IDF Military Intelligence, said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a security conference in Tel Aviv, Yadlin said that “for all intents and purposes, Iran has crossed Israel’s red line… in the summer, Iran will be a month or two away from deciding about a bomb.”

OTTAWA — Canada’s border agency has flagged the possibility of Iranians with “sinister motives” slipping into the country — a warning that came in the months leading to the arrest of two men charged with plotting to attack a Via Rail train with help from al Qaeda in Iran.

An intelligence report by the Canada Border Services Agency said 19 Iranian nationals had been found inadmissible to Canada on security grounds since 2008 — the majority of them refugee claimants lacking proper documentation.

In theory, they could do little but more than once links have emerged between these representatives and accomplices around the Middle East. Not just contacts, but an axis aimed at terrorist acts.

Several investigations after attacks in Morocco and Saudi Arabia, have confirmed this. The components Salafist (Sunni) are at war against the Shiites backed by Iran. Just think of the Al Qaeda massacres in Iraq, the fight against the rebels in Syria pro-Iranian Hezbollah, the feud in Pakistan. Deep reciprocal hatred. But Tehran  “accommodating” a share of militants is helpful,  using them in any operations against the common enemy – the United States – or barters with Arab governments. Everything has a price and a handful of al-Qaeda, especially if important, are worth it.

KATHMANDU: It has been revealed that the security personnel at the Israeli Embassy in Kathmandu recently arrested an Iranian national, allegedly doing suspicious activities outside the facility, and handed over to the police.
The Annapurna Post vernacular daily reported on Sunday that the arrest was made on April 13. Identified as Mohsin Khosravian, the suspect is currently in police custody.

The security officials at the Embassy speculated that the suspect was scouting the facility with a harmful intention “for he carried a tourist map of the Lazimpat area” where the Israeli mission is located.

BERLIN – Bulgarian police officers last summer arrested a Canadian citizen linked to the Iranian government who engaged in surveillance of the local Chabad center in the capital of Sofia, a well-placed and reliable local source told The Jerusalem Post last week, on condition of anonymity due to security reasons.

An Iranian-sponsored female agent in her 50s, holding a Canadian passport, traveled from Istanbul to Sofia several weeks after the bombing of the Israeli tour bus in the Black Sea resort town of Burgas in July 2012. She was arrested on her first day in Sofia after the Bulgarian police, on high alert, noticed she was monitoring the Chabad center.

Outcry in Iran after police punish man by dressing him like a woman

Police dressed a man convicted of battery in Kurdish’s woman’s clothing.  

An unusual punishment has shocked many in Iran. On April 15, police paraded a convicted criminal through the northwestern city of Marivan dressed in traditional Kurdish women’s clothing. This has prompted protests in the streets, online, and even in Iran’s parliament.

The day after the incident, a local feminist organisation, the Marivan Women’s Community, organised a protest to denounce this punishment — which was handed down by a local court — as insulting to Kurdish women. About a hundred men and women attended.

Egypt suspends tourist flights to Iran after protests

Remember the recent riots by religious Sunnis, ironically, against the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt because they were getting too chummy with the psychos running Iran? It seems the schism remains intact as a result.

Egypt has decided to suspend flights from Iran until mid-June as it re-evaluates its recent decision to allow tourists from the predominantly Shiite nation to visit largely Sunni Egypt.

The first direct flight between the two nations in decades took off March 30, soon after Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited Egypt in February — a development that some Egyptians, primarily Sunnis, found distressing.

If you like what is happening with North Korea at the moment, you will love what happens when Iran goes nuclear.

In case anyone is in any doubt, it is always worth remembering that North Korea is a basket-case of a country – probably in the most abysmal situation of any country on earth (not forgetting the Middle East). Its people intermittently starve by the millions, and all of them lack even the most basic of amenities. As Shin Dong-hyuk and a few other unbelievably fortunate escapees have attested, concentration camps (for once the term is not inaccurate) are maintained across the country. And even those fortunate enough not to be in them are cut off from the outside world by a regime which has the unique selling point of being the world’s only Stalinist monarchy. The authorities have no ability to provide the most basic services to the majority of its population; and after years of sanctions, can do almost nothing either internally or externally to alter the situation it finds itself in. Yet here it is, dictating the news agendas of the world.

And why? For two straightforward reasons. First, because it has a new leader of whom everyone is ignorant. No one – no other government, intelligence agency or foreign office – is entirely sure of his intentions. We do know that he spent some time at a school in Switzerland and has a fondness for basketball. But apart from that and a few other tiny details, there is almost nothing known about him. It was the same with his father and indeed his grandfather. We knew what type of sushi the current Kim’s father liked, and we knew he was a fan of Hollywood movies, but aside from such ephemera we had almost no idea of the type of man he was or the type of things he thought. Now his son – the third generation of the family to reign – is even more of a mystery. So there, undoubtedly, is the first problem.

Iran could have the capability to build a nuclear bomb by July, unnamed security sources said in a report published Friday.

The sources added that Israel’s leadership had been mollified by US President Barack Obama’s visit earlier this month, which saw Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seemingly cotton to Washington’s later timeline on when Iran could have a nuclear bomb.
