Copts Protest Church Attack in Egypt — Church Attacked Again

(AINA) — Hundreds of Copts rallied on Sunday evening against the torching of St. Georges church in Sarsena on Friday (AINA 2-16-2013), as well as the escalation of destruction of churches by Muslims. Several Coptic rights groups organized a march from Shubra, a densely populated area in Cairo, to the High Court building in downtown Cairo, to “demand justice” as the organizers said.

Demonstrators demanded the Sarsena church be rebuilt and the perpetrators be prosecuted, in addition to the assailants of previous attacks on the churches during the last two years since the ousting of Mubarak. They also demanded an end to the customary “reconciliation” meetings forced on Copts by the authorities, in which Copts lose all their rights.

“We are going down to the streets for the church torched in Fayoum,” said Yvonne Mosad, PR of Maspero Coptic Youth Union, “and against the customary reconciliation meetings held every time something takes place against the Copts. We want the application of the law.”

The Coptic demonstrators included a large number of children accompanying their parents. A large number of liberal Muslims joined the demonstration.

The marchers chanted “Maspero, Maspero,” calling for the completion of their march to the State radio and TV building in Maspero, the site of the massacre that killed 24 Copts and injured over 300 (AINA 10-10-2011).

According to officials, the attack on St. George’s Church was triggered by a Muslim family living next to the church, who complained about the sound coming from the church during mass on Fridays and Sundays. The Muslim family has been living next to the church for 15 years and had not complained previously. During the attack on Friday, Muslims voiced the real issue, which was the church is “an unlawful neighbor to the Muslims who live adjacent to it and must therefore be moved.”

The Tamiya security chief said in an interview on Al-Hayat independent Egyptian channel that the torching was not of a church but a small room annexed to the Coptic community center and the church wanted to build it without a license. He also said that what was torched was a single wooden chair. But the church said it is not a community center but a proper church.

CAIRO: Two years after the Egyptian revolution that ousted President Hosni Mubarak, liberals are increasingly concerned that the ruling Islamists are out to curb personal freedoms and build a society in their own image. Nabil Abbas, the vice president of the New Urban Communities Authorities, told Reuters Sunday that the government would no longer issue licenses for the sale of alcohol in new residential settlements on the outskirts of Cairo, Alexandria and other big cities.

“NUCA has stopped renewing licenses to sell alcohol but the current ones will continue until they expire,” Abbas said.

“Representatives of the residents in new suburbs complained that the sale of alcohol leads to problems including attacking women and randomly ringing doorbells of people’s homes.”

Egypt telecoms authority says can't block YouTube
Egyptians log on to the Internet at a community center in front of a mosque in Cairo, Egypt.

CAIRO (AP) – An Egyptian rights group and the nation’s telecommunication’s ministry have filed appeals to reverse a court order to block YouTube.

Last week, a judge ordered the government to block access to the video-sharing website for 30 days for its carrying of an anti-Islam video that set off deadly riots last year.

The ministry said this week it cannot block access to YouTube because of high technical costs, adding that it cannot legally monitor the content of social media websites.

The Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression in Egypt said Saturday that it too filed an appeal, calling the verdict “collective punishment.”

Egyptian police publicly beat to death man suspected of killing officer

If we do not take a stand on issues of Immigration and for our own culture, this is only a few years away here. Remember, civilization is a system which is in opposition to our most ruthless and base nature as animals. We take for granted that the civilizing influence is innate. But history suggests otherwise.

Somehow I doubt highly that this is more than the purest of blurry optics and misdirection. Nonetheless here is the article. Below, the video of what he said, which, is pretty much in accord with the sharia. Given that Islam is now governed by sharia by a Morsi decree, hard to see the grounds they would jail this guy.

Muslim Brotherhood Regime Tells Hungry Egyptians to Eat Less

There’s shades of Michelle Obama here, but it’s not a war on obesity, it’s an attempt by an Islamist regime to put the blame for food prices back on the people who eat.

But who needs food, when you’ve got Jihad on your mind. At this rate every month for Egyptians will be another Ramadan. And won’t that be very Islamic.

The two-day old tenure of Secretary of State John Kerry got off to a flying start today with an astonishing statement from his ambassador to Egypt, Anne W. Patterson, at a joint ceremony in Cairo to mark the delivery of four American-made F-16 aircraft:

U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Anne W. Patterson.

Today’s ceremony demonstrates the firm belief of the United States that a strong Egypt is in the interest of the U.S., the region, and the world. We look to Egypt to continue to serve as a force for peace, security, and leadership as the Middle East proceeds with its challenging yet essential journey toward democracy. … Our thirty-four year security partnership is based upon shared interests and mutual respect. The United States has long recognized Egypt as an indispensible  partner.

Abducted Egyptian Christian Girl Possibly Smuggled to Libya

(AINA) — Hundreds of Christian Egyptian girls having been abducted and forced to convert to Islam and marry Muslim men since the 2011 Egyptian Revolution. But the case of 14 year old Sarah has become symbolic, bringing to confrontation Muslims groups, whose members are implicated in the kidnappings, and the Coptic Church and human rights organizations.

On Sunday, September 30 Sarah Ishaq Abdelmalek, born on August 1, 1998 in the town of el-Dabaa, 130 kilometers from Mersa Matrouh, was on her way to school with her cousin Miriam, when they stopped at a bookshop. Miriam went ahead of Sarah to school, leaving Sarah behind. Sarah never made it to school and no one has seen her since then. Her father was hesitant at first to contact the authorities for fear of harm to his family and his other children by the Salafi Muslims, who have a large presence and influence in Mersa Matrouh and Alexandria. He finally filed a report with the police on October 20, accusing 27 year old bookshop keeper and Salafist Mahmoud Abu Zied Abdel Gawwad, a married man and father of children, of abducting Sarah and marrying her against her will (AINA 11-2-2012).

“Sarah was smuggled across the borders to Libya with the help of the Interior Ministry,” said Ebram Louis, founder of the Coptic non-governmental organization Association of Victims of Abduction and Enforced Disappearance (AVAED), which handles cases of abducted Coptic minors. Louis blamed the interior ministry for all the disappearances of Coptic minors, saying the ministry colludes with the Muslims.

The recently elected Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II said the kidnapping and forced conversion of Sarah is a “disgrace for the whole of Egypt.” During a meeting with a delegation of the Journalists Syndicate Council at Anba Bishoy Monastery in Wadi Natrunon on November 12, he said “Can any family accept the kidnapping of their daughter and her forced conversion?”

The Pope dismissed the term “emotional ties” for what is happening among young men and girls from different religions, cited as the apparent cause of conversions by the Salafists. In an interview with Al Ahram Daily he said it is “sentimental coercion of girls who have not reached adulthood.” The Pope said it is now common among Coptic families not to send their daughters to school because of fear kidnapping and forced conversion. Anba Pakhomios, the bishop of Mersa Matrouk, said Coptic families are increasingly choosing not to send their girls to public schools, making them study at home and only go to school during the examinations.

Things they teach at the most authoritative Islamic school on earth.

This really just needs to be seen on its own merits. I have no comment for the moment. I am working on a French titled version of it which should be ready soon.

Also a good friend of ours at AINA made a few small corrections. She advised that this is taught in 2nd year, not 3rd at Al Azaar and that Al Azaar is not a ‘Salafi’ institution but is a Sunni one. The Sunni one actually.

One thing is for sure though. I would avoid the cafeteria at Egyptian universities.

Apes, Pigs, and F-16s

National Review:

When you arm Islamists, you become a willing participant

in your own undoing.

By Andrew C. McCarthy

Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi

Andrew C. McCarthy

When Mohamed Morsi dehumanizes Jews as “the descendants of apes and pigs,” there’s an elephant in the room. We find it here:

Those who incurred the curse of Allah and His wrath, those of whom some He transformed into apes and swine, those who worshipped evil — these are many times worse in rank, and far more astray from the even Path!

You see, Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood mahoff–turned–president did not conjure up the apes-and-pigs riff on his own. When Morsi fulminates that Muslims “must not forget to nurse our children and grandchildren on hatred towards those Zionists and Jews, and all those who support them,” he is taking his cues straight from the Koran. Or rather, from the Holy Koran, as “progressive” American politicians take pains to call it in the off hours from their campaign to drive every last vestige of Judeo-Christian culture from the public square.

The excerpt above is not from the Life and Times of Mohamed Morsi. It originates with that other Mohammed. Specifically, it is Sura 5:60 of the Koran, the tome Muslims take to be the immutable, verbatim commands of Allah, as revealed to the prophet. And as Andrew Bostom illustrates (with a disquieting amplitude of examples), the verse is not an outlier. It states an Islamic leitmotif.

More info on the soccer riots. A prelude to a ban on soccer?

Asaad Alepti, the Coptic rights activist in Australia just sent the following links in an email.

I can’t help but wonder if the Ikhwan had planned these riots in order to pass a ban on soccer and other ‘Western’ entertainments in Egypt. These killings, including the shooting of soccer players, seem extreme even by Egyptian riot-standards, and as Egypt is currently the gold standard on how to hold a riot, it does pique the curiosity.
