Brussels: Alil, 23, has beaten, free of charge, a police officer: He has been acquitted, without any consequences, by the Brussels prosecutor’s office.
Last thursday, around 11 in the morning, Alil rides on his 50 cc moped a one-way street in the wrong direction – Gineststraat, Sint-Joost-ten-Noode towards Sint-Lazarusplaats -, suddenly facing a vehicle. The driver, a 37-year old police officer [apparently in plain clothes] of the Nord [police] zone, prepares to follow his duties. The officer keeps his cool, responding that it’s he who rides in the wrong direction, that it’s he who rides like a madman, and that it’s he who is wrong. Alil, identifying his victim as a police officer: ‘You are a cop?!’
The officer confirms that Alil’s insight is correct and glances at the rear end of his scooter, hoping to see his licence plate. ‘No chance, there’s no licence plate, but I will stop’, Alil scorns him. The youngster dismounts his moped, resuming the situation the way he perceives it: ‘You don’t even wear a uniform, you have nothing to tell me, you wanted to kill me…’
So the cop tries to call reinforcements, but Alil decides not to wait endlessly. When the officer puts his hand on his forearm, to make him understand to wait for the reinforcements’ arrival, he receives three punches in his face.
As usual, a crowd has formed: The curious crowd demand that Alil ‘calm down’ and that the officer ‘let him go’…
Suddenly Alil realises that he is in the middle of ramadan: ‘You’ve also broken my ramadan, dirty son of a bitch’, he shouts at the officer, while giving him a fourth punch right into his face.
Put at the discretion of the Brussels’ prosecutor’s office, his file was closed within 48 hours. An convenience decision motivated by the absence of previous criminal records on part of the youngster

Salafism, the radical movement within Islam, poses the greatest threat to the Belgian democracy. That says Alain Winants, Administrator-General of the State Security. Winants also requires additional staff, so that his department can fully function.
Salafists are Muslims who believe the only true Islam was in the first three generations after the Prophet Muhammad. They try to live as if in that era and are hostile to modern values.
According to the State Security, it is a trend that wins more and more followers.
“They have created a parallel society and reject modern society. In parallel society that they have their own values, their own banks, their justice, their own medicine and their own education.”

Where does this urge to film about this topic come from?
From an unease that I felt while leaving Louvain for brussels. At the beginning I thought the insults were linked to my behavior, the way I dressed. When I was asked “how much is your price”. I noticed it wasn’t only happening to me. I asked myself why men were continuing to address women in that manner.
How did you film?
For certain images, someone follows me. For otters, it’s a special camera hidden that I wear against my clothing. So a hidden camera with the microphone in my bag. In a few cases people knew they were being filmed.

Yes, it was one of my greates fears: How to treat this theme without turning it into a racist film. Because it is a reality: when we walk in Brussels 9 times out of 10 these insults comes from immigrants.
But perhaps they are “black sheeps”
Exactly when you walk around the neighborhood, after two minutes, you have ran into twenty immigrants, One of them will have made a remark. It is of course one too many, but it is not representative of the whole community.
What do you hope to get out of this documentary?
Above all I would like that woman take note that if that is happening to them they are not alone. I also want to open up the debate on the topic because many are fearful to discuss it out of being called a racist.

A 33 year old salafist from Geneva who threatened the Vlaams-Belang Politician Filip Dewinter with death, was now sentenced by a criminal court in Antwerp to 46 hours of voluntary social work and a fine of 275 euros on probation plus one euro as moral compensation. He must do the social work in a center for the support of integration.
El Chazoini Lishssin, a salafist muslim from Dubai, announced on September last year that he and his brothers would kill Filip Dewinter and his wife. Lishssin pronounced the death threats against the leader of Vlaams Belang just the same day as the islam critical party was holding a demonstration against the planned building of a mosque at Ground Zero in New York in the day of the 9th anniversary of the 9:11 attacks. Because the threats seemed to be serious, Dewinter lodged a complaint at the police, which lead to the tracing of Lishssin.
The criminal court of Antwerp determined the full veracity of the facts and also found that there was neither self-defense nor any other other exculpatory factor. Around 100 right-wing demonstrators, lead by the Belgium People’s Party, have gathered in Brussels to protest against Islamic group Sharia4Belgium, private broadcaster NTV reported today.
The latest clashes between police and organization members follow the government’s recent ban on clothes covering the face in the country.
The protesters chanted slogans such as: “Non-integrated Muslims out,” and “No to Islamic facism.”
“Some of them demand seperate hours for men and women in swimming pools, while others does not attend history or gymnastics classes,” Belgium People’s Party leader Mischael Modrikamen said.
“People who came to Belgium should accept our values … Those who do not respect this country’s values should be deported.”
Modrikamen also condemned the politician who accepted the first woman with a religious headscarf into the Belgian Parliament.
“The fear should come over,” he said. “Islamists should be afraid of us now.”
Sharia4Belgium is a group demanding sharia law, which is organized in many other Europen countries in groups such as Sharia4UK, Sharia4France, Sharia4Spain, and Sharia4Holland.

No moslems at anti-sharia march

The fact that some forty members of the extreme right-wing Nation movement joined the demonstrators was not desired by the organisers. ‘They still knew that they were not welcome’, he said. However, there were no incidents at all.
At the same time, a counter-demonstration made up by mostly francophone socialist and christian-democratic youngsters started on Polaertplein, near Brussels’ justice palace. At a given moment, a group of leftist youngsters left the demonstration, in order to take the metro and look for confrontation with the extreme right-wing Nation’s members.
Police where able to prevent them from having success. In the Troon metro station, riots erupted (photo at top). Officers used clubs, and several demonstrators having attacked the forces of law and order, received some severe blows.

BRUSSELS: The man who attacked with a knife two police officers in the metro station Beekkant is under arrest for attempted murder in terrorist context, according to a communique issued by the federal prosecutor on saturday. He risks to receive a life sentence.
The perpetrator, a 34-year old french islamist, explained to the examining magistrate to have executed the attack in order to be shot dead by police, and so change the belgian government’s position on the niqab.
The two officers attacked are 23 and 24 years old. One of them could already leave the hospital. The other one, a woman, is severely wounded and remains at the hospital. The facts were recorded through surveillance cameras, showing the perpetrator attacking the agents while these patrol through a hallway, thus not during a control, as had been reported earlier.
The perpetrator had a big knife in his pocket, plus a shorter blade hidden in a pen. He declared to be a mujahedin, to have come from Paris in order to make ‘holy war’.
