Wapping knife attacks: Lone women targeted

A stabbing which has left a woman seriously ill could be linked to an attack in the same east London wood two weeks earlier, police have said.

The latest victim, aged 26, was targeted as she walked through the park area, known as Wapping Woods off Garnet Street, on Saturday afternoon.

A man brandishing a knife forced her into bushes and stabbed her three times in the torso.

On 4 December a woman, aged 38, was stabbed by a man who stole her camera.

Extra patrols

Given the similarities between the attacks police said they were being treated as “potentially linked”.

Police patrols have been increased in the area and people have been warned to be extra vigilant.

In the first attack the woman was walking alone through the park at about 18:25 GMT when she was approached by a man holding a knife.

After stabbing her and taking a digital camera from her bag, he ran off towards The Highway.

He was described as being Asian, in his late teens or early 20s, between 5ft 2ins and 6ft tall, chubby with short black straight hair with his fringe brushed forward.

Suspected Islamic extremists attack Indian student in Germany

BERLIN (AP) – Police say an Indian student in Germany has been attacked and injured by suspected Islamic extremists who accosted him and demanded that he convert to Islam.

Police spokesman Frank Piontek said on Thursday that two attackers in the western German city of Bonn severely beat the 24-year-old and then slashed his tongue with a knife.

Police say the attackers walked up to the student in a city street late on Monday and demanded that he convert to Islam – then beat him up after he refused to do so.

The student, whose identity wasn’t given in line with German privacy rules, was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was released a day later.

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (Reuters) – Three workers in a polio eradication campaign were shot in Pakistan on Wednesday, and two of them were killed, the latest in an unprecedented string of attacks over the past three days that has partially halted the U.N.-backed campaign.

The United Nations in Pakistan has pulled all staff involved in the campaign off the streets, spokesman Michael Coleman said.

The government said immunization was continuing in some areas without U.N. support although many workers refused to go out. Women health workers held protests in the southern city of Karachi and in the capital, Islamabad.

(Reuters) – Nine people were hurt when unknown attackers fired at protesters camping at Tahrir Square in central Cairo on Tuesday, according to witnesses and Egyptian media, as opponents and supporters of President Mohamed Mursi’s plans to vote on a new constitution geared up for a day of street demonstrations.

Police cars surrounded the square, the first time they had appeared in the area since November 23, shortly after a decree by the Islamist president giving himself sweeping temporary powers touched off widespread protests.

The attackers also threw petrol bombs which started a small fire, witnesses said. Many of the protesters, awakened by the noise, chanted: “The people want the downfall of the regime.” Recorded recitations of the Koran were played over speakers in the square.

Last year, a Sweden-Democrat politician with christian Assyrian roots, Issa Issa, had a narrow escape from a murder attempt, committed by moslem immigrants. They threw stones against the politician’s apartment, yelling: ‘Fucking christian, fucking Sweden-Democrat, come out!’

When Issa opened the door, they thrashed him, and one of them stabbed a knife into his stomach. Issa survived miraculously, then left the party.

Again only last week, a member [Jesper HÂrd] of the Sweden-Democrates youth organisation was thrashed by immigrants in the middle of the street.

I would suspect this might mean that there is a general feeling of impending conflict in front of ‘Federal’ which I assume means a main legislative building. Forgive the inherent seeming contradiction here but may god be with the secularists on this one.

In this newest video Magic Martin sent, which only has 10 views at this time so it is likely very recent, full scale rioting has indeed broken out as predicted in the earlier video

Al Qaeda committed ‘truly shocking’ human rights abuses including crucifixions and the beheading of an alleged sorceror during its 16 months in control of a southern region of Yemen, a report by Amnesty International claimed today.

The London-based charity has also released a video which appears to show a suspected thief having his hand amputated by the Ansar al-Sharia militia, which seized power of the Abyan governorate in February 2011.

Amnesty said dozens more civilians were then killed during reckless counter-insurgency operations by the Yemeni government as it sought to win back the territory from the Al Qaeda-affiliated group.

The tragedies would ‘haunt Yemen for decades to come’ unless the perpetrators were caught and the families compensated, the charity said.

Amnesty International Middle East and North Africa Director Philip Luther said: ‘Abyan experienced a human rights catastrophe as Ansar al-Sharia and government forces vied for control of the region during 2011 and the first half of 2012.

‘The Yemeni authorities must ensure that a commission of inquiry announced in September covers the truly shocking abuses committed.

Linesman ‘kicked to death’ by players after youth game involving his son

A Dutch linesman officiating in his son’s youth football match has died a day after being beaten and kicked by several players during a game.

Richard Nieuwenhuizen, 41, was rushed to hospital after being punched and kicked by players from opponents Nieuw-Sloten on Sunday.

His club announced on Monday night on Twitter: ‘With great sadness we announce the death of our @Buitenboys linesman Richard Nieuwenhuizen. Our thoughts are with his family.

‘Our linesman Richard died at 17:30 in front of his family. This violence must stop on the pitch! #stopsenselessviolence.’

A takeaway worker who led a gang attack which left a teenager with a fractured eye socket has been jailed for two years.

Ali Haydor, 22, punched Daniel Stringer-Prince, 17, at least twice before a gang of youths continued the assault, repeatedly kicking and punching the victim in the head.

Student Daniel and a friend were attacked by a group of Asian youths who had been involved in a snowball fight with a group of white teenagers.

Detective Inspector Dave Moores said of the attack: ‘What started off as quite a trivial matter of people throwing snowballs, was escalated much further by others including Haydor, who subjected one of the victims to a wholly undeserved and violent attack.

‘This man has now been left with lasting injuries, including damage to his sight in one eye, but the consequences of this assault could have been far worse.

Australia: “Very religious” Muslim stabs his brother for insulting Muhammad

A YOUNG man tried to stab his brother to death for insulting a Muslim prophet, a court has heard.

Safaa Allami, 22, is accused of attempting to murder his older brother Ali Allami during a row at their Cloverdale home in Perth’s eastern suburbs.

Ali Allami was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, prosecutor Nicholas Cogin said.

It is claimed he was stabbed seven times in the chest, back and flank, suffering a pierced liver and kidney that could have cost him his life.
