Assault on checkpoint kills 15 guards

State TV said the attack was carried out by Islamist militants.

A security official said seven other guards were wounded in the attack, which took place around sunset, when the troops were having the traditional meal at the end of the daily Ramadan fast.

The official said the attackers seized an armoured vehicle before driving away. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not allowed to speak to reporters.

The Israeli military said two vehicles were commandeered by the attackers, including one that crashed into Israel, where it blew up.

In a statement, Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak said Israel’s military and the internal security agency “thwarted an attack that could have injured many. The militants’ attack methods again raise the need for determined Egyptian action to enforce security and prevent terror in the Sinai.”

Initial reports said seven guards were killed in the attack, but emergency services official Ahmed el-Ansari later told Egypt’s news agency that 15 had been killed. He said seven had been wounded by gunfire.

President Mohammed Morsi called for an emergency meeting with the military following the attack, State TV said.

Mass shooting at Sikh temple. Gunman dead and so-far, un-named

as of this moment there is no news published as to who the murderer is in this horrible and senseless slaughter. However I am going to stick my neck out and say it was a Sikh male from another competing temple as part of an ongoing dispute over religious observances, or a disaffected member of that temple. In either case, a Sikh.

We shall likely know soon.

John Cantlie (right) and fellow photographer Jeroen Oerlemans (left) were threatened with death

Reports that Britons were among Islamist militants who kidnapped and wounded two photographers in Syria are being taken “very seriously” by ministers, the Foreign Office has said.

The claims were made by photographers John Cantlie and Jeroen Oerlemans, who were held at a camp for a week in July.

The Foreign Office said it was closely “monitoring the situation”.

The Free Syrian Army group, which is part of the opposition trying to oust Bashar al-Assad, helped them to escape.

Mr Cantlie, who is British, and his Dutch colleague, Mr Oerlemans, were both wounded in a “shooting gallery” as their thwarted captors fired after the fleeing men.

  • Turkish national C. Y. was very well regarded in the construction industry
  • The police believes that he was the „facilitator” for the other two detainees

C. Y. was detained last Wednesday by the National Police for being an alleged member of Al Qaeda

Turkish national Cengiz Yalcin, who was arrested by the National Police during an operation against three alleged members of Al Qaeda, had been living in Cádiz and Gibraltar for at least 6 years. As newspaper El País reported yesterday, last time he had been working with the Gibraltar-based Profield Contractors construction and real state development company. This firm confirmed that the detainee began his work in the company in 2008 as a civil engineer, and before this, he had been working in the construction industry in Gibraltar for at least two years. “He arrived with very good references from some sectors or the construction industry”, the company stated in a communiqué issued this morning, in which it also declared that “the recent happenings related to his detention came as a surprise to the company management”,

This company has among its main clients the Government of the (English) colony, for which it was currently working on the renovation of a block of flats ant the removal of debris from the construction of the dam which is currently being built in that territory to reclaim land from the sea

“During his working period in the company, his behavior was absolutely normal and he gave no reason to suspect that he could have been involved in the alleged terrorist activities for which he has now been arrested”. Profield Contractors declared that it will collaborate with the police of Gibraltar in whatever needed. The company was searched yesterday evening, and the police seized documents related to the detainee.

The three alleged members of Al Qaeda were arrested last Thursday and Wednesday in Cádiz and Ciudad Real. The police operation was carried out at a faster pace due to the possibility that two of them, who are already under custody in the general police station, could leave the country. A. A. A. y M. A, who according to their own declaration came from Chechnya, but whose nationalities are still to be determined – although the investigators believe that one of them is Russian ant the other from an ex-soviet republic – had taken a bus traveling from Cádiz to Irún (Gipuzkoa), probably in order to cross the border to France, where it is suspected that they had already lived before. They were caught in Almuradiel (Ciudad Real) on Thursday at 00:35 a.m., and after showing an enormous resistance, they were detained by the GEO (special operative forces of the police). UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) – Iran’s U.N. envoy accused Israel on Wednesday of plotting and carrying out a suicide bomb attack on a bus in Bulgaria a week ago in which five Israeli tourists were killed.

A suicide bomber blew up the bus in a car park at Burgas airport, a popular gateway for tourists visiting Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, killing himself, the Israeli tourists and the Bulgarian bus driver and wounding more than 30 people.

Israel has accused Iran and the Lebanese Islamist group Hezbollah of the bombing. Iran has denied the accusations.

“It’s amazing that just a few minutes after the terrorist attack, Israeli officials announced that Iran was behind it,” Iran’s U.N. Ambassador Mohammad Khazaee told a U.N. Security Council debate on the Middle East. “We have never and will not engage in such a despicable attempt on … innocent people.”

“Such terrorist operation could only be planned and carried out by the same regime whose short history is full of state terrorism operations and assassinations aimed implicating others for narrow political gains,” Khazaee said. “I could provide … many examples showing that this regime killed its own citizens and innocent Jewish people during the last couple of decades.

The suicide bomber who killed six people in Bulgaria last week was part of a sophisticated group of conspirators, Prime Minister Boiko Borisov has said.

He said the group had arrived in Bulgaria a month before the attack.

But he declined to back Israeli claims that Iran and Lebanese militant group Hezbollah played a role.

Five Israeli tourists and a Bulgarian bus driver died in last Wednesday’s bombing in Burgas on the Black Sea.

The identity of the man who carried out the bombing remains unclear.

As well as those killed, dozens of people were wounded in the blast.

Israeli Tourism Minister Stas Misezhnikov laid a wreath at the bomb site during a memorial ceremony on Tuesday.

The story is staggering, but equally so, its good to know there is someone in England actually protecting British interests. For you people living in the UK, go out and buy a copy of the SUN. They deserve it.

Terrorist fear over uniforms

Security … checks at Olympic Park
Exclusive
By NICK PARKER
Published: 20th July 2012

THE security crisis deepened yesterday amid fears terrorists could use uniforms and passes supplied to missing guards.

A G4S staff trainer said hundreds of yellow ‘Games Time’ outfits and post-training documents had vanished with the staff who have failed to show at Games venues.

He said: “Anyone in a G4S uniform would have a clear advantage if they tried to breach security. They’re not the sort of items you’d want in the hands of terrorists.”

One recruit said she was invited by G4S to pick up her official uniform six months after she FAILED the vetting process.

She added: “It’s a dangerous mistake. It means people who are genuine terror threats may have been issued uniforms.”

But G4S insist even staff with a uniform would not get on a site without first reporting to an on-site supervisor who would issue them with a “venue access pass”.

Another 1,200 troops have been put on standby to guard venues, joining the 3,500 already called up.

Soldiers preparing accommodation for military helpers in Wapping, East London, were having to pay £1 for a shower at a leisure centre. The MoD said they will be reimbursed.
