Turkey in second day of peculiar terrorist attacks

1. TURKEY – Istanbul police kill woman carrying bomb near police HQ

(There are two videos on this, one is out for translation so we can title it, the other is below)

ISTANBUL (AP) — In a second evening of violence in Istanbul, police killed a woman Wednesday carrying a bomb near the city’s main police headquarters, an official said.

Istanbul Governor Vasip Sahin also said that a second person escaped and that a policeman was slightly injured. It wasn’t immediately clear who was behind the attack.

The incident follows a deadly hostage situation on Tuesday, when a prosecutor and two gunmen holding him at an Istanbul courthouse were killed in a shootout between police and the assailants.

Mystery tunnel found near Pan Am Games venue

Toronto Canada

From CBC

National security officials have been notified that an underground tunnel was discovered near a venue for this summer’s Pan Am Games in Toronto, CBC News has learned.

The tunnel was dug in the woods near Toronto’s Rexall Centre and York University’s Keele campus. It was large enough for a person to stand in, at around 2½ metres in height, and was about seven metres long. The tunnel had lights inside, powered by a generator, and the walls and ceiling were reinforced.

It is my belief that if one wishes to stave off the worst kind of retrograde totalitarianism, questioning, challenging and even insulting religion and religious authority is not just a right, it is a moral imperative for all people who wish to remain free.

[TRANSLATION of the first video] (any feedback is appreciated)
Man in view: I think it’s cool, that uuhhh, that you are calm, that’s cool.
Man out of view: I am just as nervous as you are. I also would like to go home.
Man in view: Yes, I understand.
Man out of view: I am not going to block you…
Man in view: Yes, I understand.
Man out of view: …with the risk… yes?
Man in view: yes.
Man out of view: I am happy that you also want me to go home. We have to take care that … that you… you have done this with a reason.
Man in view: Ofcourse, yes. I hope that you uuhh… Would you like to sit over there in a moment when I have to begin? I promise you that nothing will happen but, if I sit here on my own then I can (unclear what he says here) because they are probably outside already. In case they put me… The things that are going to be said… are very large world things. We are hired by intelligence agencies and that is why we have seen things that the current society doubts. Those thing we are going to publish right now. That’s why I said, we are not evil people. We do it for the normal citizen. That is why it is possible that people from above (higher ranks, policians I guess) say, just kill him nobody needs to hear that. If I sit here on my own, then there is a chance that they just think “Let’s storm the place and shoot him…” We riddle him with bullets.
Man out of view: Yes. I don’t know… I assume that the director uhh… I do hope that you let me even if I am sitting there.
Man in view: I promise that… We can shake our hands.
Man out of view: That you take me with you, understand?
Man in view: I would like it, that you stay here. Then the chance stays small if they undertake any action.
Man out of view: Ok like that.
Man in view: Furtheron, when I finish my speech. I will let you go.
Man out of view: Ok, when your speech is finished. Then you go outside with me, I guess?
Man in view: I will let you… I will let myself be arrested.
Man out of view: Yes ok but…? Man in view: Then I let you go outside.
Man out of view: Ok, Man in view: You can just go outside. But this is taking too long.
Man out of view (to someone else): Can you here me!? You do have a live microphone.
Man in view: Yes but, is there no contact with uhh… (silence) This is taking too long.
Man out of view: Director!? You have heard it, just like me, that the microphone is working. Man in view: Yes the microphone is working, but I have to know that we are on live television. I also don’t hear anything from uhh… (silence and sigh)
Man out of view: Ok, you… they… you can only hear them?
Man in view: Yes.
Man out of view: They can’t hear you?.
Man in view: Yes.
Man out of view: Understand, you are standing here now. With a microphone and a camera. You are on screen, that is also the image that goes outside. Man in view: How do I know that this is on the TV?
Man out of view: Exactly, that is what you need to hear from the other people. They can tell you that…
Man in view: I just hear that the microphone works… Oh, there is the police. They are going to…
Man out of view: I hope so. (He is sympathising with the man) Can I go outside?
Man in view: In a moment yes, when the speech is finished. (silence) Stay… What are you doing!?!
Police: POLICE, drop the weapon!!! DROP IT DROP IT!!! Man in view: I dropped it, I dropped it.
Police: ON YOUR KNEES, ON YOUR KNEES!!! NOW NOW!!! Take it easy. Ease ease. On your stomach spread your arms. Any suspicious move, and we will shoot!!! You understand!!!
Man now on the floor: (sad tone) Yes…
Police: Contact emergency room that the situation is under control, suspect has been arrested. Other police officer: the situation is under control, suspect has been arrested.

Does terrorism work?

1. Canada: Threat of Violence Forces Cancellation of Pro-Israel Event

The Canadian Institute for Jewish Research (CIJR) and the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA) were forced to cancel a pro-Israel event after conversations with police indicated a legitimate threat of violent protests.

CIJR and CAMERA were schedule to host Canadian MP Marc Garneau for a talk about Canada-Israel relations. When Montreal police alerted CIJR that there was an organized protest scheduled for outside of the event, CIJR moved to postpone the lecture indefinitely.

According to the Concordian, those who intended to attend the lecture were informed that it was canceled via Facebook.

Bradley Martin, CAMERA Fellow and Representative for Montreal and a student at Concordia, wrote on the event’s Facebook page at around noon on Jan. 12 announcing the talk had been cancelled because the Montreal Police had notified them of a violent protest was set to take place because of this event. At around 7 p.m., Martin posted to clarify what had happened, writing the following: “This morning, the Montreal Police informed CIJR that their cyber division detected a planned protest of the event. This protest was estimated to consist of about sixty demonstrators and considered to be hostile and violent. Under the circumstances, it was determined that the venue could not be secured properly and the safety of attendants would be at risk. It was therefore decided that the event would not take place as planned and be postponed indefinitely.”

2. Moscow warns media against religious-themed cartoons

by Nina Achmatova
Russian authorities warn that offending religious feelings may violate the country’s anti-extremism laws. Meanwhile in Chechnya, Kadyrov plans a mass rally against the cartoons, warning that Russian Muslims will not be patient forever.

Moscow (AsiaNews) – Russia’s communications watchdog Roskomnadzor issued a warning to the country’s media on Friday against publishing religious-themed cartoons. Its statement, which does not contain a ban, comes after regional branches began issuing statements about coming bans.

Whilst Russian authorities expressed solidarity with the opponents of extremism and terrorism, it said that the media of the Federation Russian should not publish cartoons that may violate the law.

In its statement, Roskomnadzor warned that offensive cartoons in the media could be qualified as violation of existing media and anti-extremism laws.

3. German anti-Islam PEGIDA cancels rally over ‘IS death threat’

© AFP/File | Sympathizers of German right-wing populist movement PEGIDA (Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident) attend their twelfth march in Dresden, eastern Germany on January 12, 2015

DRESDEN (GERMANY) (AFP) – Germany’s anti-Islamic PEGIDA movement said it has cancelled a planned march on Monday, citing a death threat against organisers from the Islamic State jihadist group.

“Cancelled! Dear friends, unfortunately we must cancel our 13th meeting due to security concerns,” the group “Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident” said on its Facebook page on Sunday.

“What in police jargon is called an ‘abstract threat’ has changed to a ‘concrete death threat’ against a member of the organising team. IS terrorists have ordered his assassination.”

I would have to say that given the governments we have, who’s immigration and other policies grow the power and influence of islam in our nations as feces  encourages mushrooms, the answer to my headline question would be a resounding yes. One vague foreign threat from the Islamic state cancels a demo for over 30,000 Germans in Germany. Ok then.

This makes the next item as insulting as it is ineffective:

Theresa May UK: Work harder to end anti-Semitism

The UK must redouble its efforts to “wipe out anti-Semitism”, Home Secretary Theresa May has said.

Mrs May said she “never thought I’d see the day when members of the Jewish community” would be “fearful” of staying in the UK.

She was speaking at a service in London to commemorate those killed in the terror attacks in France this month, including four in a kosher supermarket.

Police say there is “heightened concern” about risks to Jewish people.

Thank you LCC, Buck, Tundra T. Carpe Diem (Translation of cancelation of PEGIDA march)

Here is the actual cancelation notice translated from German by Carpe Diem:

Cancelled!

Dear friends,

Unfortunately we have to cancel our 13th meeting for security reasons. The “abstract threat”, according to police technical jargon, has changed into a concrete “death threat” against a member of our organization team. His execution has been ordered by IS terrorists. As “collateral damage” had to be expected in such an assault, and we regard it as our special responsibility to guarantee the safety of our protestors, on consultation with State Protection and State Police Headquarters, we are compelled to take this step. It is a serious setback for Freedom of Speech when it is possible for terrorist forces to erode our guaranteed confessional right, but your safety has priority. We will announce more background information in a press conference on Monday. Organization team

(remark: according to DPA, there have been death threats against PEGIDA founder Lutz Bachman. They say that there have been warnings by foreign intelligence agencies. All demonstrations are prohibited for next Monday in Dresden by the police because of possible terrorist attacks.)

Ottawa: Twin brothers who converted to Islam claim terror charges violate freedom of religion

As predicted, they are converts to Islam and as predicted the media prefers their original names as they are on the wrong side of the narrative.

Let’s hope someone finds out the names they took for themselves so we can use those as they would wish, and as we need to.

Quebec muslims react to statements by officials on mosques and extremism in Montreal.

This is interesting. Thank you CB Sashenka for all the work in translating both the video and the article in the post.

The last person interviewed in this video, a certain, Amir Khadir is well worth independent research. Check Youtube for him and some of the protests he led against his own constituent, a shoe store in Montreal where he led regular marches against the owner because he sells a brand of Israeli shoes among other things.

The Canadian Muslim Forum demands an apology from Yves Francoeur

Dec.12, 2014

MONTREAL – The Canadian Muslim Forum demands an apology from the President of the Montreal Police Brotherhood, Yves Francoeur after the remarks he made earlier in the week.

Last Monday, Mr. Francoeur said that the presence of mosques in an area means the increased presence of extremists.

He also said that the “multicultural character” in Montreal was one of the reasons that made him believe that Montreal Police Service officers could “be the target of attacks.”

Faced with such an outcry to his remarks, Yves Francoeur made his position clear by saying that the multicultural character of Montreal was not a problem in itself, but an important aspect of reality that must be considered.

This explanation is, however, not sufficient for the Canadian Muslim Forum.

“We ask Mr. Francoeur to apologize because he does not speak for himself. He’s a union representative. What he does, what he says, affects my community. Clarifying what he means is not enough,” reported Jebbari Samah of the Forum.

The president of the Montreal Police Brotherhood did not react to this new demand.

He said a few days ago that his remarks had been interpreted simplistically.
