USS George Washington Carrier enters Yellow Sea

This is a powerful statement by the US in terms of its commitment to South Korea. However, North Korea’s pattern seems to be to provoke once the last provocation has died down, as in their estimation the Western mind set cannot focus for more than a few news cycles. North Korea sunk the Chon An and killed 40 plus South Korean navy personnel, Then after a while, a South Korean aircraft went missing and 2 Air-force people aboard. I have no idea what happened to them I didn’t follow that story after the disappearance.

Then the recent attack on the ‘Disputed’ yet clearly South Korean Island. My guess is, the USS George Washington will sail around the area for 3 weeks while the North prepares it’s next outrage and once the ship has left they will commit it. North Korea may be evil, may not care one bit about the safety or well being of its own people and may be prepared to see some or all of them die in pointless provocations, but they are not stupid.

Short video detailing a tiny bit of the Korean situation.

I find what is taking place in Korea to be extremely distressing. And of course, one cannot determine the thoughts and motives of a madman. So how can you build a response or model the future based on a leader like Kim, who has contempt for the welfare of his own people.

STRATFOR, to whom I have subscribed for a few years now, explains (paraphrasing and taking liberties) that Kim’s son, who is the next ’emperor’ of NORK is consolidating his power by staging an artillery attack on South Korea, hoping for a military response presumably, that will force the military to look to him for leadership, once again showing his profound contempt for the lives of his citizens.

There are lots of possible other explanations ranging from a desire to actually use one of their nuclear weapons, a cover for Iranian activities hoping to divert US attention and military assets away from the Gulf, and hoping for a south Korean military response to use as background for one of Kim’s Musical theatre extravaganzas Kim is so fond of. Nothing like the 1812 overture with real artillery especially if it is raining down on your own starved peasants.

In any case, here is a video showing some of what happened.

North, South Korea soldiers exchange gunfire at DMZ

Officials in Seoul say North Korean soldiers fired two rounds toward a guard post, and South Korean soldiers immediately responded with three shots. The incident raises tension before next month’s G-20 summit in Seoul.

TALIBAN WEAPONS CARRYING SHIP CAUGHT OFF S.KOREAN COAST

The Taliban and Hamas and Fattah are all terrorists

The destination for these weapons was the Palestinian Authority. Let’s see here, Taliban = al-Qaida, Taliban running weapons to the Arabs in the “Disputed Territories” = the Arab terrorists there in cahoots with al-Qaida. So an al-Qaida- Fakestinian Arabs nexus does exist. So why are the Europeans and the Obama administration so interested in doing business with Hamas & Fattah terrorist thugs who are aligned with the jihad? KGS

Trend: “Taliban elements have illegally entered South Korea, local media reported Friday citing an unidentified intelligence source, Xinhua reported. South Korea’s intelligence authorities, in collaboration with Interpol, seized a vessel carrying strategic weapons material heading to the Palestinian territories, and are now running after Taliban insurgents in the country, Seoul Newspaper said. The Taliban members targeted South Korea due to its lack of systematic control of strategic weapons, the newspaper said.”

There is another twisted, psychotic evil in the world…

Every-time you think you understand the depth and breadth of human cruelty, you discover your own limited, and perhaps mercifully so, imagination. I happened to catch a celebration of the passing of the torch to Kim’s son in North Korea on TV last night. A nation that is willing to force an entire people to starve to the point where they are actually by average measurably shorter than their south Korean counterparts on average just to maintain the thinnest possible mirage of superiority to the west. It staggers the mind that university students would not dare to walk around in Nazi paraphernalia, but would sport every kind of communist symbol they can find with pride.

Communism did and still does, logarithmically more horror, slavery and cruelty than the Nazis managed. The fact that left leaning, western universities have managed to hide all that and make it fashionable is itself a crime.

In any case, at the end of this clip I posted a tinyurl I made for the following documentary made by American journalists who visited North Korea. Ill post it below the clip-vid I made here. Thanks to TL for sending me the link for the documentary. I wish they would show it to all university 1st year students.

Please try and find the time to watch it. Not only is it very good, it is also important to realize that communism is still, to this very day, breaking and chaining the ankles of a wonderful people while just miles away, freedom allows the very same people to be massively creative, wealthy, and well fed.

Horrifying video of daily life in North Korea

Thanks to our reader erisian23 we now know that “flower Swallow” means a child in North Korea who flits from opportunity to eat, one to the next like a bird.

Kotjebi or kotchebi (???) is a Korean term denoting North Korean homeless children. The term literally means “fluttering swallows”, given because of the kotjebi’s constant search for food and shelter.[1] The kotjebi are not officially recognized in North Korea, with any mention of the term being prohibited in state publications and documents

N. Korea vows nuclear war

Belicose North Korea vows to use nuclear weapons should South Korea and the US do war games in preperation for a potential N. Korean nuclear strike. And people ask me why Iran should not be allowed to have nukes. It freaking stuns me frankly.

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — North Korea threatened Saturday to mount a powerful nuclear response to upcoming joint U.S.-South Korean military drills, calling the exercises an “unpardonable” provocation on top of wrongly blaming Pyongyang for the sinking of a South Korean warship.

North Korea‘s powerful National Defense Commission, led by leader Kim Jong Il, warned that its troops would counter the move to hold military maneuvers involving a nuclear-armed U.S. supercarrier with a “retaliatory sacred war.”

“The army and people of the DPRK will legitimately counter with their powerful nuclear deterrence the largest-ever nuclear war exercises to be staged by the U.S. and the south Korean puppet forces,” North Korea‘s official news agency in Pyongyang quoted an unnamed commission spokesman as saying, referring to the country by its official name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Pyongyang routinely threatens war when South Korea and the U.S. hold joint military drills, which North Korea sees as a rehearsal for an attack on the North. The U.S. keeps 28,500 troops in the South to deter against aggression, but says it has not intention of invading the North.

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates and South Korean Defense Minister Kim Tae-young announced earlier this week in Seoul that the allies would stage a massive four-day military show of force starting Sunday to send a “clear message” to North Korea to stop its aggressive behavior.

Washington and Seoul blame Pyongyang for the deadly sinking of a South Korean warship in the waters off Korea‘s west coast. Forty-six sailors were killed in what Seoul calls the worst military attack on South Korea since the 1950-53 Korean War. Continue Reading →

North Korea threatens all out war if punished

May 20, 2010 STRATFOR
North Korea continued its steadfast denials of involvement in the sinking of the South Korean warship ChonAn and said it would send its own investigators to conduct a probe, while warning that any punishment against the North would spark war, AP reported May 20. The all-out war to be undertaken will be a “sacred war involving the whole nation, all the people and the whole state,” a spokesman for North Korea’s National Defense Commission said, according to a report carried by the state-run Korea Central News Agency. Pyongyang warned the United States and Japan to “act with discretion.”

South Korea: Probe Confirms North Korean Torpedo Sank Ship

May 20, 2010  Stratfor:
An international probe found that North Korea attacked the ChonAn warship with a heavy torpedo in March, South Korea announced, Yonhap reported May 20. An international team of experts reached the conclusion after scrutinizing the wreckage of the 1,200-ton patrol ship and other evidence collected from the scene, including North Korean torpedo parts. The team confirmed that a few small submarines and a mother ship supporting them left a North Korean naval base in the West Sea 2-3 days prior to the attack and returned to port 2-3 days after the attack.

South Korea: North Korea Responsible For Warship Sinking – Officials

May 18, 2010 STRATFOR

South Korea will formally blame North Korea for launching a torpedo that sank a South Korean warship March 26, killing 46 sailors, The Washington Post reported May 18, citing unnamed U.S. and East Asian officials. South Korea concluded that the warship was sunk by a torpedo identical to a North Korean torpedo previously obtained by South Korea after investigators from Australia, Britain, Sweden and the United States helped piece together portions of the sunken ship.

Israel says N.Korea shipping WMDs to Syria

From Yahoo News:

Israel says N.Korea shipping WMDs to Syria AFP – Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman speaks during a joint press conference with EU foreign affairs …

2 hrs 27 mins ago

JERUSALEM (AFP) – Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Tuesday accused nuclear power North Korea of supplying Syria with weapons of mass destruction.

Lieberman’s office quoted him as telling Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama at a meeting in Tokyo that such activity threatened to destabilise east Asia as well as the Middle East.

“The cooperation between Syria and North Korea is not focused on economic development and growth but rather on weapons of mass destruction” Lieberman said.

In evidence he cited the December 2009 seizure at Bangkok airport of an illicit North Korean arms shipment which US intelligence said was bound for an unnamed Middle East country.

Lieberman said Syria intended to pass the weapons on to the Lebanese Hezbollah militia and to the Islamic Hamas movement, which rules Gaza and has its political headquarters in Damascus.

“This cooperation endangers stability in both southeast Asia and also in the Middle East and is against all the accepted norms in the international arena,” Lieberman was quoted as telling Hatoyama.

Thai officials at the time said that acting on a tipoff from Washington they confiscated about 30 tonnes of missiles, rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons when the North Korean plane landed for refuelling in Bangkok.

Israel has accused North Korea in the past of transferring nuclear technology to Syria, which is technically in a state of war with the neighbouring Jewish state, although the two last fought openly in 1973.

Britain’s Sunday Times newspaper reported in 2007 that Israel seized North Korean nuclear material in a commando raid on a secret military site in Syria and then destroyed the site in an air attack.

Syria denied the report.

The communist regime in North Korea has denied collaborating on nuclear activity with Syria, while Israel has maintained an official silence on the reported September 2007 raid and strike.

South Korea vows to retaliate over warship sinking

From The BBC:

A section of the Cheonan is lifted on 24 April 2010
The Cheonan sank after an as yet unexplained blast on 26 March
South Korea’s defence minister has said those responsible for the deaths of 46 sailors on board a warship that sank after an explosion must “pay a price”.

Kim Tae-young promised “punitive action” against “the perpetrators who killed our soldiers.”

He did not specify what form this could take. South Korea has not directly blamed North Korea – and Pyongyang has denied any role.

The Cheonan sank after a “close-range” blast that split it in two.

>Last month, a mass funeral was held for the 46 sailors, including six whose bodies have not been recovered.

Many South Koreans believe North Korea sank the ship, correspondents say.

We should deal some kind of blow against those forces which made our officers and men sacrifice their lives

>Kim Tae-young
South Korean Defence Minister

What if North Korea was to blame?
The ship has been salvaged from the sea bed and is being examined by an international team of naval experts trying to find out what caused it to sink close to the North Korean border on 26 March.

The South Korean defence minister has said a torpedo strike is among the most likely causes.

So far the investigation team has said only that they have found evidence of an underwater explosion and it is not known whether fragments of any weapon have been discovered.

Mr Kim said officials were scrutinising pieces of aluminium, a key material in making a torpedo, that were picked up from the disaster area.

“I believe that, by thoroughly and completely getting to the bottom of the incident to the maximum extent possible, we should deal some kind of blow against those forces which made our officers and men sacrifice their lives for their country,” the defence minister said on KBS television.

North and South Korea are still technically at war, since the 1950-53 conflict ended without a peace treaty.

Over the years there have been several naval clashes off the west coast of the peninsula, in the area where the Cheonan went down.

North Korea sunk South Korea ship, torpedo

South Korea: North Korea Torpedoed Ship STRATFOR
April 22, 2010
South Korea’s military believes a torpedo fired from a North Korean submarine sank its navy ship last month, based on intelligence gathered jointly with the United States, Reuters reported April 22. The military’s intelligence arm sent the report of “certain” North Korean involvement to the presidential Blue House soon after the incident, Yonhap quoted a high-ranking military source as saying. North Korean submarines are all armed with heavy torpedoes with 200 kg (441 lb) warheads, according to the military source. It is the military intelligence’s assessment that North Korea attacked with a heavy torpedo.

March 31 S.Korea military on alert after warship sinking

BAENGNYEONG ISLAND, South Korea (AFP) – South Korea said Wednesday it has ordered all government officials to stay on emergency alert until the crisis sparked by the mysterious sinking of a warship is resolved.

The officials have been told not to take leave and to stay alert even while off-duty in case of emergencies, the home ministry said, reiterating an instruction first issued Saturday.

The 655,000-strong military and the police force was also ordered on heightened readiness after an unexplained blast tore a 1,200-tonne corvette in two Friday night near the tense border with North Korea in the Yellow Sea.

A huge search for 46 missing sailors, which has claimed the life of one naval rescue diver, was suspended Wednesday due to stormy seas.

The military officially refuses to abandon hope but officers said privately there was no chance anyone could still be alive in watertight compartments inside the sunken hull.

Seoul has not cited any evidence the North was involved, although the defence minister has said a North Korean mine — either drifting or deliberately placed — might have caused the disaster.

The disputed border was the scene of deadly naval clashes in 1999 and 2002 and of a firefight last November.

Navy chief Kim Sung-Chan has said the ship’s munitions storage room did not appear to have exploded and “the ship was broken in two because of powerful outside pressure or an (exterior) explosion”.

Dong-A Ilbo newspaper said US and South Korean intelligence had satellite photos showing submersible craft moving in and out of a west coast base at Sagot in North Korea before and after the sinking. Continue Reading →
