Muslim Lesbian Couple Warns: Deport Us to Israel and we’ll be killed

Shalom Toronto:

The Canadian Federal Court has accepted an appeal by an Israeli Muslim lesbian couple who sought refugee status in Canada, saying they will be killed for desecrating the honour of the family if deported to Israel

Iman Musa and Majida Mugrabi, a Muslim lesbian couple who are Israeli citizens and are currently living in Canada, have received from the Federal Court of Canada an opportunity to re-examine their request to receive refugee status in Canada. In the judgment which was given on March 8, 2012, The Honourable Judge Roger Hughes ordered the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada to hold another hearing regarding the request.

Iman and Majida came to Toronto in 2007 and shortly afterwards applied for refugee status, claiming that there is a danger to their lives in Israel since they are in a lesbian relationship, which is considered a desecration of Muslim family honour, punishable by murder at the hands of one of the members of the family. The plea was rejected by the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration which ordered their deportation to Israel. The two appealed the decision and requested that their file be transferred to a Risk Assessment officer, who also declared on August 9, 2011 that their lives will not be in danger if they are deported to Israel.

Mike Fegelman: The UN’s eroding moral compass

The National Post:

  Mar 12, 2012 – 9:12 AM ET

  • As another telling example of how the UN has lost its moral compass, on March 9, just one day after International Women’s Day marked the achievement and continued challenges of women, the United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women, passed the only country-specific resolution condemning Israel for the supposed intolerable living conditions of Palestinian women.

No action was taken against Iran, where girls are stoned to death for allegedly committing adultery, or Syria, where women are indiscriminately tortured, raped, and murdered by the Assad regime. The plight of Saudi Arabian women who are treated as chattel under monarchy-sanctioned gender apartheid was altogether ignored. The United Nations only censured Israel, one of the world’s most progressive defenders of women’s rights, for exclusive and unwarranted opprobrium.

The UN’s preoccupation with Israel will saw one of its own organization’s pass a resolution decrying that the “Israeli occupation” in territories, including east Jerusalem, is the main obstacle for the advancement of Palestinian woman. Not a peep from the UN about the internal Palestinian conditions that stymie female self-determination. Israel’s envoy to the UN, Ron Proser, rightly proclaimed that this council’s resolution “bring levels of absurdity and cynicism to new heights.”

Israel, the only true democracy in the Middle East and stalwart protector of women, is cast by the UN as the foremost oppressor of women. In a region where the terms “Middle East” and “women’s rights” are contradictory and not complimentary, Israel stands out as a beacon for the rights of women, not its serial abuser.

It’s no wonder that when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the UN General Assembly this past September, he referred to the UN as “a house of many lies” and a “theatre of the absurd.” A place where “Israel is unjustly singled out for condemnation more often than all the nations of the world combined” and where Israel is “not only cast as the villain, but where real villains are cast in leading roles.”

To support his argument, Netanyahu pointed out how Libya chaired the UN Commission on Human Rights under Gaddafi’s ruthless and tyrannical rein. He referred to Saddam Hussein’s regime in Iraq which headed the UN committee on disarmament and how the UN described the Western Wall, Judaism’s holiest accessible site as “occupied Palestinian territory”.

In a place where automatic majorities decide anything, it’s no wonder that also this week another UN organ body, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) approved a resolution to keep Syria on the agency’s human rights committee. Talk about farcical.  A leading violator of human rights which has by some estimates killed close to 7,500 of its own people, sits on a UN committee tasked with instilling, nurturing, and enforcing international human rights.

In reality, Israel’s sterling record on women’s rights stands in sharp contrast to the sordid history of its Arab neighbour’s treatment of its own females. Israeli women like the late Prime Minister Golda Meir and current head of the Kadima political party, Tzipi Livni, have led their country with distinguished honour. Israel recently ranked 11th place among 59 developed countries for the participation of women in the workplace. Israeli women serve in Israel’s independent judiciaries, civil service and public sectors, and are leaders in the business and labour communities, all while serving important roles in the Israel Defense Forces. Next week in fact, Israeli women will take part in the “Slutwalk” protest. In a show of solidarity, Israeli women are joining this peaceful protest movement that started in Canada in response to a policeman’s comment that to avoid being attacked, women shouldn’t dress like “sluts”.

RTV Interview with Israeli Ambassador to Egypt on the new status as “greatest enemy Egypt”

The Israeli ambassador to Egypt spoke some plain and hard truths that one didn’t hear too often in public very long ago. Clearly, the diplomatic and political classes of the world have realized that pretending things are other than they are holds little to no value. If one is to face hostility, one may as well not lie to one’s own people. His analysis on the nature of Islam Vs. democratic values was spot on and frankly, i was shocked to hear the truth being told by someone in his position. But delighted none the less. Perhaps if the rest of those with real authority actually get with the truth-telling-program I can go back to my own life.

IRISH FILM MAKER HAS SECOND THOUGHTS ABOUT STRICT ALLEGIANCE TO PALESTINIAN CAUSE

Couple the clampdown on free speech in which only the views from one side of the debate are ever heard, and the complete brainwashing of society with that one sided view, and you’ll have an Ireland completely at odds with Jewish self determination and the right to defend itself.

Here’s a film maker who has chosen to walk a lonely path in Ireland’s artist community, due to his awakening to the truth behind the Arabs’ conflict with Israel, which speaks greatly of his courage and moral compass. He’s been confronted with a reality that runs counter to the one carefully prepared for him by his peers and society at large.

Nicky Larkin not only challenges himself, but his countrymen as well, by sharing this completely different Irish perspective on the conflict. It’s a perspective rarely discussed in Ireland, let alone mulled over, which speaks greatly of the vice-grip hold anti-Israel forces have on that society. Larkin’s efforts offer a ray of hope that rational and reasonable debate on the conflict is indeed possible in Ireland, lets hope that his colleagues take up the challenge.

Nicky Larkin: Israel is a refuge, but a refuge under siege

Through making a film about the Israeli-Arab conflict, artist Nicky Larkin found his allegiances swaying

I used to hate Israel. I used to think the Left was always right. Not any more. Now I loathe Palestinian terrorists. Now I see why Israel has to be hard. Now I see the Left can be Right — as in right-wing. So why did I change my mind so completely?

Strangely, it began with my anger at Israel’s incursion into Gaza in December 2008 which left over 1,200 Palestinians dead, compared to only 13 Israelis. I was so angered by this massacre I posed in the striped scarf of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation for an art show catalogue.

Shortly after posing in that PLO scarf, I applied for funding from the Irish Arts Council to make a film in Israel and Palestine. I wanted to talk to these soldiers, to challenge their actions — and challenge the Israeli citizens who supported them.

I spent seven weeks in the area, dividing my time evenly between Israel and the West Bank. I started in Israel. The locals were suspicious. We were Irish — from a country which is one of Israel’s chief critics — and we were filmmakers. We were the enemy.

Feb. 13, 2012: Indian policemen watch security and forensic officials examine a car belonging to the Israel Embassy after an explosion tore through that in New Delhi, India.

NEW DELHI –  Police on Wednesday said they arrested an Indian journalist in connection with last month’s bomb attack on an Israeli diplomatic vehicle in New Delhi, their first arrest in an attack that Israel accuses Iran of orchestrating.

Police arrested Syed Mohammed Kazmi on Tuesday after investigations showed he had been in touch with a suspect they believe may have stuck a magnetic bomb on an Israeli diplomat’s car, police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said.

Police said they searched Kazmi’s house over the past two days to gather evidence of his link to the Feb. 13 attack, which wounded the diplomat’s wife, her driver and two other people in a nearby car. Police did not say what evidence they found.

Kazmi, 50, was being questioned and was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday before being handed over to officials of the investigating agencies for further questioning, Bhagat said. It was not immediately clear which news organizations Kazmi has worked for.

Obama: There’ll be a price to pay for premature Iran strike

There will be consequences for both US and Israel for such a move, the US president says, warns against “casualness” of talk by American politicians “beating the drums of war.”

WASHINGTON – US President Barack Obama warned Tuesday that there would be consequences for the United States as well as Israel if a premature strike is launched on Iran.

“This is not just an issue of Israeli interests. This is an issue of American interests,” he said at a last-minute press conference. “It’s also not just an issue of consequences for Israel if action is taken prematurely. There are consequences for the United States as well.”

He warned against the “casualness” of talk of possible military action and American politicians’ “beating the drums of war,” saying those who speak so loosely should consider the consequences of their words.

Three of the four Republican candidates appeared at AIPAC Tuesday and criticized Obama for not acting aggressively enough to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear capability.

“There is a cost,” Obama said, recalling visits to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and condolence letters he sends to families.

New blood test offers early cancer detection

If only the BDS and Islamic world were not such hypocrites. Then they could avoid this technology and Darwin would solve the whole problem.

Israeli researchers have developed a simple and cheap blood test that was found to provide early detection for many types of cancer in clinical trials.

The promising new blood test, developed by scientists at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) and Soroka University Medical Center in Beersheva, can detect minuscule changes in the blood of a person with a cancerous growth somewhere in the body, even before the disease has spread.

Early diagnosis of cancer could save thousands of lives. Every day in the United States alone, 1,500 people die of cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the US after heart disease, accounting for one in four deaths.

Medical specialists believe that earlier detection greatly increases the chances for successful treatment. It also prevents the need for long, painful and costly treatments when the cancer reaches a more advanced stage.

‘Netanyahu to Tell Obama: Attack Iran – Or Else’

Israel National News:

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will deliver President Barack Obama an ultimatum that if the United States does not attack Iran soon, Israel will, the London Telegraph reported Sunday.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta said last month that there is a “strong likelihood” of an Israel attack by June. If Prime Minister Netanyahu delivers an ultimatum, it would give the United States 2-3 months to act or face the reality of an Israeli attack that would almost certainly require the United States coming to its aid, if necessary.

Israeli officials have said that in several months, Iran will have buried so many of its nuclear facilities deep under concrete bunkers in mountains that an attack would not be effective.

The Israeli Prime Minister  “has the upper hand,” claims the Telegraph’s correspondent Adrian Blomfield.

“Exuding confidence, Mr. Netanyahu effectively brings with him an ultimatum, demanding that unless the president makes a firm pledge to use U.S. military force to prevent Iran acquiring a nuclear bomb, Israel may well take matters into its own hands within months,” wrote Blomfield.

Their relationship, almost from the outset, has been frostier than not, a mutual antipathy palpable in many of their previous encounters.

Two years ago, Barack Obama reportedly left Benjamin Netanyahu to kick his heels in a White House anteroom, a snub delivered to show the president’s irritation over Israel’s settlement policy in the West Bank. In May, the Israeli prime minister struck back, publicly scolding his purse-lipped host for the borders he proposed of a future Palestinian state.

When the two men meet in Washington on Monday, Mr Obama will find his guest once more at his most combative. But this time, perhaps as never before, it is the Israeli who has the upper hand.
