Greece: According to minister, migration wave equals invasion

The greek minister for civil protection, Nikolaos Dendias, has compared the uncontrolled immigration into Greece to an invasion. ‘The country is about to perish. We are facing an invasion’, states the minister.

The minister said on greek Tv that security forces would consistently continue their nationwide action against illegal migration commenced two days earlier. Since saturday morning, Greece has acted against illegal immigrants with a massive police contingent.

Only in the capital Athens, around 1500 officers were deployed on the weekend, in order to control supposed non-EU foreigners without a sojourn permit, as informed by police. Until monday morning, more than 1100 persons without a sojourn permit were brought to a reception camp near Athens.

According to media reports, there were more sorties near the turkish border, in the country’s north-east. The measures are to be continued thus not temporary by nature, said Dendias on [greek] radio.

For a longer time, the country at the south-eastern external EU border has been a venue for migrants from primarily Asia and Africa. In the past ten years, more than a million people sought shelter there. Only in 2010, they were 128 000, according to greek data.

In central Athens, greek police intervened massively against immigrants without valid documents. During recent-day raids, 1500 people were checked, of which 500 were detained.

According to statements made on saturday by a greek police speaker, 2000 officers took part in the operation in the greek capital. During a similar sortie in the Evros border region near Turkey, 2500 officers were active.

The raids’ objective is ‘to send back the immigrants to their native countries, to close the borders, and to again make Athens a rule-of-law metropolis with quality of life’, declared the police. It is a matter of ‘national survival’.

Before the recent parliamentary election, Antonis Samaras, conservative greek prime minister, had gone in for ‘recapturing the cities’ and ‘stopping the influx of illegal migrants’. On wednesday, Greece had announced a tripling of its present 600 border guards in Evros to 1800.

According to official figures, there are about 800 000 legally registered migrants in Greece. The number of immigrants without valid documents is estimated to be more than 350 000. Since the 17 june election, the neonazi party Chrysi Avgi (Golden Dawn) has been in parliament with 18 deputies. They go in for a ‘cleansng of Greece from illegal migrants’.

(ANSAmed) – MILAN, JULY 26 – Citigroup analysts say there is a 90 percent chance Greece will leave the eurozone in the next 12-18 months. In a new study on the crisis, Blommberg reports, the bank reviewed its previous forecast according to which Athens’ chance of leaving the euro was estimated between 50 and 75 percent.

Citigroup analysts estimated Greece’s exit could occur on January 1, 2013, though stating that is not a forecast of a specific date.

(ANSAmed) – ATHENS – Racially motivated attacks are becoming more frequent and more violent by the day in Greece but, worse still, most of the attacks go unpunished because the police does not make arrests.

The alarm has been sounded by the Kathimerini newspaper, which reports almost daily brutal attacks and bloody brawls targeting immigrants, both legal and illegal. The paper quotes a surgeon practicing at the Evangelismos hospital in Athens, who says that “during every [12-hour] shift we have to deal with six or seven cases of foreigners who have been attacked and who are suffering from cuts, bruises and often even knife wounds”.

The attackers, who generally catch their victims by surprise, arrive in groups, hooded and dressed all in black, making them difficult to identify. Even if victims are able to identify and report their attackers to police, they are very unlikely to do so for fear of being attacked again, or worse. Yet everyone knows that almost all of the attackers are members or sympathisers of Golden Dawn, the far-right party with clear pro-Nazi sympathies, which at the recent general election earned almost 7% of the vote and 18 seats in Parliament. Kathimerini reports as an indicative factor that attacks against immigrants in the Athens area of Thissio have doubled since the party opened a new office in the area two months ago, a statistic backed up by health officials at the local hospital. A number of attacks have been recorded in the last month across Attica, of which Athens is the capital, but also on the island of Crete. Last Monday, a group of assailants, who are yet to be identified, carried out a bloody attack on a 25-year old homeless Egyptian who had found temporary shelter in a square in Chania, in Crete. After being savagely beaten with iron bars, the man was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition, and doctors were forced to remove one of his kidneys. A day earlier, four men had attacked two Algerian immigrants in their early twenties as they slept on the beach of Nea Hora. In this case, the attackers used not only metal bars but also wooden clubs and knives. The two victims, who also had their mobile phones and some money stolen, also ended up in hospital in Chania. These are just two of the most recent episodes.

Basking in the sun as Greece went to the polls yesterday, Dimitri Panaglos sipped a cold beer and gave a personal – and very cynical – insight into how his tiny country could ignite global financial meltdown and leave the cradle of civilisation in economic ruins.

Widely travelled, with family in London where he studied for a degree in fine art, the 40-year-old smiled grimly and told me: ‘We Greeks are all thieves. People didn’t know it when we had the drachma. But you soon knew when we joined the euro. We borrowed and spent without ever planning to pay it back. That’s just the Greek way.’

Now selling hand-drawn cartoons to tourists, having lost his studio and home, he added: ‘We are Greeks, not Europeans. That’s why we have always had two prices in every cafe – one on the sign that’s for foreigners and local cheap rates for Greeks.

‘Europe has never understood Greece – it’s a country where you take from foreigners, not give.’

Many of his countrymen would fiercely dispute his words. What cannot be denied, however, is that the good life seems to be coming to an emphatic end for the Greeks.

With Europe demanding austerity measures in return for keeping the country afloat – more than 240billion euros has already been provided by Europe’s taxpayers – Greeks were last night effectively voting on whether to accept the deal or plunge into chaos and possible bloodshed.

 

The EU has said that the conditions of the latest 130billion-euro bailout deal must be accepted fully by a new government or funds will be cut off, driving the country into bankruptcy.

Deputies of the far-right party Chrysi Avgi marked their entry into Parliament by marching in a military formation and refused to stand during the ceremony led by the Archbishop of Athens Ieronymos II. The three Muslim deputies also remained seated, while almost all Communist parliamentarians left the hall so as not to attend the swearing-in.

Speaking exclusively to The Sunday Telegraph, Theodoros Pangalos said he was “very much afraid of what is going to happen” after Greek voters rejected the deal in elections last Sunday.

“The majority of the people voted for a very strange mental construction,” he said. “We want to be in the EU and the euro, but we don’t want to pay anything for the past.”

The main beneficiary of the election, the hard-Left Syriza coalition, came a startling second on a promise to tear up the deal, which promises EU loans to keep massively-indebted Greece afloat, but demands crippling spending cuts in return. Germany, the principal lender, has said it will stop payments if Greece breaks its promises on spending.

Mr Pangalos warned: “There is a school of thought that says the Germans are bluffing. They need Greece and will never throw us out of the eurozone. But what will happen, which is almost certain, is they will not give us the money to pay our debts.

German politicians have called for Greece to leave the eurozone and return to the Drachma, as the country fails to form a government following Sunday’s election in which mainstream parties were punished for EU austerity measures.

“We should make Greece the offer to leave the eurozone in an orderly fashion, without leaving the European Union,” said Klaus-Peter Willsch, budgetary expert for Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union.

He told Wednesday’s business daily Handelsblatt it was not up to the Germans to tell the Greeks how to live, but the election results indicated that the Greeks were not willing to make the effort required to make their country competitive.

“The dogma that no country can leave the eurozone has already caused too much political damage in Europe,” he said.

If anyone cares to, in the ‘Agendas and Views of This Site’ page, I stated some years ago why I started this humble website and effort in the first place. My intention of course, was to help prevent certain outcomes. Very predictable ones I believe.

It would appear that those predictable outcomes are coming into fruition, and that several forces may lead to horror in the foreseeable future, where none was needed. Just a re entrenchment of classical liberal values, a fresh grip on immigration policies, and a rational amount of national-pride along with a slow dismemberment of the culture of entitlement which is truly unsustainable and is rotting the West like a cancer.

According to Danish police, the number of illegal foreigners in Denmark increases tremendously, and today there can be up to 50,000 people who live and workillegally in the country using a false identity from another EU country.

Each year the State Administration issues registration certificates to 26,000 EU citizens, which allows them to live and work in Denmark, writes the magazineDanish Police.

If the State Administration suspects that a person identifies himself through false papers, the employee must contact the police.

It happened 100 times in 2011 that an employee in one of the nation state administrations had such suspicions, according to a telephone survey that the DanishPolice have made in the Danish police districts.

As alleged EU citizen you can simply send a copy of your passport and a passport photo to the State Administration. There after you show up and receive yourcertificate.

A packet with false papers can be ordered over the Internet for 2000 euros and includes everything from passports and driving licenses. And this is the luxuryedition that only careful study from crime technicians can reveal. Simpler packages can be purchased much cheaper.”
