Establishment of a Restricted Zone in Hamburg

U.S. Embassy Berlin informs U.S. citizens that as a result of violent protests in December, the Hamburg police have established a 24/7 restricted zone covering a large area of the city of Hamburg, including the city’s nightlife area.

The restricted zone (“Gefahrengebiet”) gives police officers extra authority to stop, search, and ban people from the area.  It includes the red light district of the Reeperbahn, the Old Town, St. Pauli, and Altona Nord, including the Sternschanzen area (Rote Flora district).

Police require that all persons in public areas carry their passport or “Ausweis.”  If stopped without proper identification, persons may be detained by police without further justification.

The death toll from an explosion at a train station in Russia’s southern city Volgograd on Sunday continues to rise, with at over a dozen people killed and scores more injured in what officials said was likely an attack by a female suicide bomber. Police said that at least 18 people were killed and over 40 more injured by the blast that took place at 12:45 p.m. (8:45 a.m. GMT) in the Volgograd-1 train station.

EGYPT 4 injured in blast near Egypt’s Sharqiya Military Intelligence HQ

At least four have been injured in an explosion near the Sharqiya Governorate’s Military Intelligence Headquarters in the city of Anshas midday Sunday, according to state TV.

The blast is believed to have been caused by a car laden with explosives detonating near the intelligence building, Director of Sharqiya’s Criminal Investigations Office Atef Khedr told Al-Ahram’s Arabic news website.

Army Spokesman Ahmed Ali confirmed on his official Facebook page Sunday that four soldiers had been injured by the blast which partially destroyed the building’s rear façade. He condemned the terrorist attacks targeting Egypt’s military and state facilities.

A security official told state news agency MENA Egyptian security forces have arrested a suspect in the explosion.

The police officer claimed that previous criminal record this man has  in Canada for drug related crime is in no way connected to today’s arrest.

Canadian police are in urgent need of decent information on this. Hezb’allah in fact relies on drug smuggling, manufacture and sale as one of the main methods of funding its terrorist operations around the world. As this perp is Iranian, I would be investigating him for working in multiple capacities with Hezb’allah on all counts so far.

OTTAWA – The Toronto man charged in a suspected bomb threat at the PMO on Wednesday is no stranger to the law.

Mohamoud Jimale, 45, was convicted in 1998 in Toronto for communication for the purposes for prostitution. He was fined $250.

He faced several other charges over the years, but they were withdrawn.

On Thursday, Jimale was charged with one count uttering threats and one count mischief after allegedly walking into the governmental building with a suspicious package, threatening people and praying in a foreign language,

Langevin Block, that houses the PMO, was evacuated Wednesday morning. Harper wasn’t in the building at the time.

All roads surrounding the building were closed for several hours as police investigated.

A bomb squad was called in to make sure the package wasn’t dangerous.

The bomb scare occurred just hours before the government’s speech from the throne, which was delivered as scheduled.

OTTAWA — The Langevin Block, home of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s office, was evacuated Wednesday and the police bomb squad dispatched while police investigate a “suspicious package.”

Police arrested a “person of interest” at the scene. The RCMP is leading the investigation.

The incident began at about 11 a.m. Photos tweeted from the scene show a man in white robes and cap being held in the back of an RCMP cruiser.
