Turkey: State TV ”censures” Lennon’s Imagine
ANSAMED:
(ANSAmed) – ANKARA, AUGUST 14 – An incomplete translation of John Lennon’s song Imagine during Turkish state TV coverage of the Olympics closing ceremony has the country’s independent media and secular opposition up in arms.
A reporter from state-run TRT television translated the famous song live, but omitted the last part of the lyrics when he came to the lines ”Imagine… nothing to kill or die for / And no religion too.” Oversight or censorship? The jury is still out, but the center-left opposition and secular organizations accuse Islamic nationalist Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan – whose pet project is a gigantic mosque to dwarf all other mosques, which he has promised the people of Istanbul – of secretly wanting to Islamicize the country.
Colonel says headscarf a ‘symbol of terrorism’ in new voice recording
Today’s Zaman

Col. Ali Çakmakkaya, a judge, describes the headscarf as a “symbol of terrorism” in a voice recording, in which he also uses profanity while referring to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdo?an and his wife, Emine Erdo?an.
The voice recording was released on Twitter on Tuesday, although the date of the recording remains unknown. A caption provided with the recording says Çakmakkaya made the statements in an official military setting.
Criticizing Erdo?an for not wearing a tie during his meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Çakmakkaya says Erdo?an had put an end to state culture in Turkey. He talks about the wives of Erdo?an and Assad: “You look at the wife of the other [Assad]; she is pretty modern and [looks] European.” He adds that Erdo?an’s wife is not like this, using expletives in his description of Emine Erdo?an.
Çakmakkaya also compares Emine Erdo?an with the wife of Qatar’s Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. “Even the wife of Qatar [Emir] looks neater than his [Erdo?an’s]. Her head is covered but not with a headscarf. These [headscarves] are entirely militant symbols,” he says, adding, “This is not about faith. This is a symbol of terrorism.”
Turkey deploys troops to Syrian border
From Dubwise youtube channel:
Turkey has sent troop reinforcement to the Syrian border, after Erdogan’s warning that soldiers approaching the border will be treated as target, the Turkish daily Zaman reported citing the Cihan news agency.
It said 15 military vehicles, including tanks and cannons, were dispatched to the border from Diyarbakir.
Meanwhile, activists in the outskirts of Aleppo say that 280 soldiers defected today in Idlib near the main highway leading to Aleppo, al-Jazeera reports.
There is no independent confirmation but if the report is correct it would be one of the largest mass defections so far.
According to the activists cited by al-Jazeera, there were clashes between the defectors and the Syrian army. One helicopter was allegedly shot down and six tanks destroyed.

This Week, Turkey Went a Long Way Toward Becoming an Islamic Republic

“My people are going to learn the principles of democracy, the dictates of truth, and the teachings of science. Superstition must go. Let them worship as they will, every man can follow his own conscience provided it does not interfere with sane reason or bid him act against the liberty of his fellow men.” — Mustafa Kemal Atatürk
Hardly surprising, deeply upsetting, and geostrategically catastrophic, it’s official. Turkey has now passed over towards being an Islamist state. That turning point is marked by a tiny event of gigantic importance.
Fazil Say is an internationally acclaimed Turkish classical pianist. He has performed with prestigious symphony orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Berlin, Israel Philharmonic, France, and Tokyo, and is a European Union cultural ambassador. The Turkish state is now going to put him on trial, as an Istanbul court has accepted the prosecutor’s charge, which amounts to heresy. Specifically: he is accused of insulting Islam because of tweets he sent.
Say suggested that since the Koran says there are rivers of drinks in heaven, that makes it sound like a pub, while the beautiful women available there make it sound like a brothel. A number of his tweets are quoted here. That’s his crime — writing a couple of sentences to describe his thoughts.
We are not talking of someone criticizing Say or disagreeing with him. We are talking about the power of the Turkish state being used to charge a man with a crime and to send him to prison for exercising free speech. True, they are only asking for a sentence of eighteen months in prison, but once the precedent is set their ambitions will expand.

ANKARA, Turkey – A Turkish court has formally charged an internationally known Turkish pianist and composer with insulting Islamic religious values in comments he made on Twitter.
The court in Istanbul voted Friday to approve an indictment against Fazil Say, who has played piano with the New York Philharmonic, Berlin Symphony Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic, National Orchestra of France, and Tokyo Symphony.
The 42-year-old Say faces charges of inciting hatred and public enmity, and insulting “religious values.” Say, who has served as a culture ambassador for the European Union, allegedly mocked Islamic beliefs about paradise.
Meltem Akyol, a lawyer for Say, says the pianist has denied the charges. She says the opening trial will be held on Oct. 18.
Say could face a maximum 1 1/2 years in prison if he is convicted.
Father sells 12-year-old daughter in Antalya: report
A father in the southern Antalya province allegedly sold his pre-teen daughter after signing a contract with a businessmen 40 years her elder, daily Hürriyet reported today.
The father received 5,000 Turkish Liras after signing the contract which stated clearly that he had sold his daughter and was paid the money “in advance.” The contract also read that both the father and the daughter consented to the transaction.
The scandal was revealed when the daughter informed her teacher at school that she had been taken to a hotel and raped by the man who had “bought” her from her father. The teacher immediately passed the information onto local police. A judicial case, however, did not begin until yesterday because police had been unable to locate the businessman for six years.

Yezidi leader: Turkey will be forced to acknowledge genocide
From People of Shambhala.
President of World Yezidi Union, Aziz Tamoyan, has said that 500,000 Yezidis, as well as 1.5 million Armenians, were massacred by the Turks during 1915-1923.
Although the Armenian genocide is now widely recognized, outside of Turkey, the genocide of the Yezidis (sun worshippers) has long been ignored.
“We condemn the Turkish denial policy. It is a rough crime,” Tamoyan told Armenpress. “Turkey must understand, that the whole world is with Armenia. They ought to keep their bloody hands far away from the nations. We have been standing next to Armenia and… continue reading.
Turkish men hospitalized after drinking camel’s milk, urine
ISTANBUL – Hürriyet
Hürriyet photo
Two Turkish men were hospitalized on arrival to Turkey after drinking camel’s milk and urine while on an umrah visit, daily Hürriyet reported.
The men believed the camel’s milk and urine to be good for health, claiming it was written in a hadith. An imam, according to the Turkish men, also drank the milk and urine with them.
The visitors were hospitalized due to high fever and unusual levels of liver enzymes. Further tests revealed that the two men had been infected with the “alkhurma” virus, reportedly catching the virus from the milk.
The alkhurma virus is very dangerous and highly contagious and has a fatality rate of 25 to 35 percent, daily Hürriyet reported.
?hsan Özkes, a retired religious cleric and current member of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), denied the existence of any hadith that would encourage people to drink camel’s milk and urine.
“Those who did drink it must have been ignorant,” he said.

329 YEAR OLD CARTOON IN DUTCH MUSEUM ANGERS TURKS, RIJKSMUSEUM ‘DISTANCES’ ITSELF FROM THE DRAWING
File this one under “Whining Muslims”.
You see, no Muslim or anything Islamic can be seen in a less than flattering light, for long, especially by the hand of a non-Muslim. This is a sharia based concept. What the Dutch museum should have done, was to tell the whining Turks that it’s part of history and will remain in the exhibit, and grow up. Remember folks, the Turks are the ones who are saying that they are ready to join Europe, and then prove themselves not to be ready, if ever.
NOTE: Mehmed IV was from 1648 to 1687 the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. His reign of the Turkish Empire was a short, abruptly coming to an end with the battle of Vienna. The koran is seen lying on the floor at the foot of the bed next to the portable ‘royal commode’.
Rijksmuseum Distances Itself from Its Islam Cartoon
MSTERDAM, 12/04/12 – The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is distancing itself “from the significance” of a cartoon from 1683 which it is currently exhibiting. A furore arose in Turkish media.
The print shows the Ottoman sultan lying sick in bed after losing a pitched battle by Vienna. A remarkable detail is that the royal commode is beside the bed with the Koran next to it as toilet paper. Such prints were popular in Europe after the Ottoman defeat in the siege of Vienna.
Wim Pijbes, director of the Rijksmuseum, has meanwhile placed an explanatory text beside the print. This says that such a print is part of the full picture that the museum wants to give of 400 years of Turkish – Dutch relations, but that “this does not mean that the Rijksmuseum endorses the meaning of the print.” Pijbels says the text was necessary to prevent escalation.

Pastor in Black Sea region’s bastion of nationalism feels the hate; slow justice in Malatya.
ISTANBUL, April 9 (CDN) — Sentiment against Christians in Turkey has persisted long enough for a U.S. religious rights monitor to recommend it as a “Country of Particular Concern,” and pastor Orhan Picaklar knows such anti-Christian hostility first-hand.
Picaklar, of Agape Church in Samsun, lives in the Black Sea region, a bastion of Turkey’s unique Islamic-imbued nationalism, where Christians live under increasing pressure. He has seen his building attacked and his family and congregation threatened.
“Just as it is difficult to belong to Jesus all over the world, unfortunately it is the same in Samsun, if not worse,” Picaklar said. “We have been here for 10 years, and people here still treat us like cursed enemies. Our families feel anxiety. On the hour my wife calls me and I have to say, ‘There’s no problem,’ as if to say, ‘I’m still alive.’”

Muslim infatuation with the Nazis.

Feminist group protest mistreatment of women in Islam, Islamic marriage realities. At last.
I would very much like to know how these women were treated right after this video ends. Very courageous, among other things, of these women to protest Islamic treatment of women in Istanbul Turkey, but doing so topless, well as one commenter said over at liveleak where the video is from,
