President Barack Obama believes his re-election gives him a mandate to continue on his path to “fundamentally transform” America. He is well on his way to fundamentally transforming the First Amendment’s protection of freedom of speech to a more Sharia-friendly version.
The transformation is playing out before our eyes in the persecution of the producer of the anti-Islam video blamed by Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other top administration officials for the Benghazi murders that took the lives of Ambassador John Christopher Stevens, Navy Seal Tyrone Woods and two other brave Americans. The day after Obama’s re-election victory lap, the video producer, Mark Basseley Youssef, was sentenced by a federal district court judge to one year in prison for violating the terms of his probation. The Obama administration had gone after Youssef relentlessly, using probation violations as a convenient pretext to arrest and prosecute him. The real goal was to punish Youssef for blasphemy against Islam – a crime under Sharia law.

Interesting double twist on classic extortion scheme. Double twist in the sense that if you do the math and cancel out all the double negatives, what you get is, ‘remove the film (and presumably anything else we don’t like) or we, Muslims, will hurt you unbelievers’

LONDON: Britain’s Counter-terrorism Command Unit and Specialist Internet Bureau have taken notice of a representation made by an influential Muslim organisation which is asking the government to ban the blasphemous film “Innocence of Muslims” for posing danger to UK’s national security.
The Jamaat-e-Ahle Sunnat UK, which claims to represent the majority of Muslims in Britain, has approached the home secretary and police forces around the country requesting that the movie be removed from YouTube on the grounds that it incites racial and religious hate crimes and openly encourages violence in the name of faith. The group didn’t request that the film, which caused outrage among Muslims across the world, be banned for being offensive, nor that it will incite hatred against the Muslims but rather that it would encourage violence by Muslims to non-believers. Raja Zahid Nawaz confirmed to The News that his organisation had been contacted by the security officials with assurance that the contents of the letter were being studied and all the activity around the film online and otherwise was being monitored.
Ghulam Rabanni, Secretary General of the organisation, told The News that the blasphemous film is not about the “freedom of speech”. “This film is aimed at inciting religious and racial hatred. It incites extremism and terrorism and will lead to the radicalisation of young Muslims in the UK. It encourages physical and violent attacks on non-Muslim communities around the world. It encourages child abuse. It will damage the fabric of a multi racial and multi faith society and it will lead to tensions and disturbances within the UK and in particular in inner city areas. We have asked the government to ban the film on YouTube.”
Mob burns girls’ school in Pakistani city over alleged blasphemy
I guess civilization is just too hard to sustain and now and again the world returns to savagery the way a dog returns to its own vomit.

A mob attacked a girls’ school in the city of Lahore, Pakistan, Wednesday, demanding that teachers hand over the principal and a teacher, after rumors emerged that the teacher had insulted the prophet Muhammad.
Though it is unclear just what the teacher said, more than 200 people ransacked the school, set a nearby car on fire, and graffitied the phrase “school management are blasphemers” on the wall of the Farooqi Girls’s High School, which is considered one of the better schools in Lahore.
The police arrested the principal, Asim Farooqi, on blasphemy charges, which carries the death sentence in Pakistan. The accused teacher, Arfa Iftikhar, has reportedly gone into hiding.

I remain confident that these trials were sharia compliant but in no way shape or form rational due process. I do not care what the charges were, and unlike Shab, I do support capital punishment. But there has to be a rational process and determination of willful guilt. The crime committed should also rationally be deserving of the forfeiture of life.
People who think that more Islam in Western nations is not a problem need to understand that more Islam means more sharia and sharia can be carried out by the average Muslim on the street. This is no small thing.

Iran Human Rights, October 22: According to reports from Iran, Saeed Sedighi and nine other prisoners were hanged in Tehran’s Evin Prison early this morning.
Iran Human Rights (IHR) strongly condemns today’s executions. IHR calls these executions “unlawful” because reports indicate that the prisoners had confessed under torture and were sentenced to death in sham trials each one lasting less than 30 minutes.
Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of IHR said: ”I send my condolences to the families of those executed today. The leadership of the Iranian authorities, particularly Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader, and Gholamhossein Eje’ei, the Chief Prosecutor, are responsible for these executions. They must be held accountable.” Amiry-Moghaddam continued: ”We urge the international community to strongly condemn the executions and act to stop future executions.” He added: “We also urge the European Parliamentary delegation to cancel its scheduled visit to Iran on October 27 as a protest to these executions. Traveling to Iran at this time may send the regime in Iran the wrong signals.”

A Pakistani man who was acquitted of a blasphemy charge has been shot dead by two men in Punjab province, police officials said on Saturday.
Sajjad Hussain, a resident of Khan Muslim village in Gujranwala district, 80 km from Lahore, was gunned down on Friday. He had been
arrested in February 2011 after Sath Sanaullah, a resident of his neighbourhood, accused him of committing blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed during a private conversation.
Hussain was booked under section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code, the harsh blasphemy law.
A district and sessions court acquitted him last month for lack of evidence.
On Friday, Hussain was at his shop when two armed men came and fired at him. He was killed instantly. The two gunmen later surrendered to police.
They were identified as Sheikh Zeeshan and Awais Ahmed, both residents Hussain’s neighbourhood.
The men told police that they had killed a “blasphemer” and had no regrets over their action.
Hussain’s family held a demonstration and demanded that the two men be punished.

Congratulations on your new book, Sharia versus Freedom: The Legacy of Islamic Totalitarianism.
What inspired you to write this book about Sharia Law and how is it different from other books?
Bostom: Thanks Jamie! I became fascinated (if alarmed) by some excellent polling data reported in the Spring of 2007 resulting from a collaboration between the University of Maryland, and World Opinion Dynamics (and wrote about it here). The survey sample was quite extensive (encompassing some 4000 individuals) and comprised of face to face interviews in local languages of Muslims from Morocco, Egypt, Indonesia, and Pakistan. Data from two questions jumped out at me. The first asked about the strict implementation of Sharia law in Islamic countries. Sixty-five percent of Muslims were moderately or strongly in favor of this proposition. The second was about desire to establish/re-establish the Caliphate (i.e., a transnational Muslim superstate, consistent with the borders established by the jihad conquests across Asia, Africa, and Europe, from the 7th through 17th centuries). Again, 65% of the Muslim sample was supportive of this goal. I began to ask myself a series of questions. How has the idea of the Caliphate been actualized in the past? Why has it survived to this day? Why is the notion of a Caliphate so popular among Muslims, and what are implications of its popularity, for Muslims, and non-Muslims? These questions lead inevitably to Islam’s quintessence, and at the same time far reaching set of guidelines, the Sharia, or Islamic law.
Thus I began to research and write additional essays on many broad themes related to the Sharia, which, when combined with other introductory materials written specifically for the book, including Andrew C. McCarthy’s elegant Foreword, eventually became Sharia Versus Freedom—The Legacy of Islamic Totalitarianism. But the final and perhaps most important inspiration proved to be a patient, careful reading of Whittaker Chambers’ autobiographical opus, Witness. I discovered that much could be gleaned from Chambers’ witness-martyrdom in the struggle against Communism, sacrificing himself, as he put it, “a little in advance to try to win for you that infinitesimal slightly better chance,” and applied to the modern threat of resurgent Islamic totalitarianism. As described in the book, Chambers’ own brief 1947 comparison of Communism and nascent Islam comported with more extensive, independent contemporary characterizations (i.e., made from 1920-2001) by Western scholars and intellectuals who similarly juxtaposed these ideological systems. I also elucidate in Sharia Versus Freedom Chambers’ understanding that faith in the Judeo-Christian God was conjoined to Biblical freedom. The antithetical conceptions of modern atheistic totalitarianism—epitomized by Communism—and equally liberty-crushing Islamic doctrines are compared. Specifically, with regard to Islam, I discuss “hurriyya,” Arabic for “freedom as perfect slavery to Allah,” and how the God of Islam, the unrelenting autocrat, Allah, engendered, in Palgrave’s words, Islam’s “Pantheism of Force.”

(ISTANBUL) — A top Turkish pianist and composer appeared in court on Thursday to defend himself against charges of offending Muslims and insulting Islam in comments he made on Twitter.
Fazil Say, who has played with the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and others, is on trial for sending tweets that included one in April that joked about a call to prayer that lasted only 22 seconds.
Say tweeted: ‘Why such haste? Have you got a mistress waiting or a raki on the table?’ Raki is a traditional alcoholic drink made with aniseed. Islam forbids alcohol and many Islamists consider the remarks unacceptable.
Prosecutors in June charged Say with inciting hatred and public enmity, and with insulting “religious values.” He faces a maximum 18 months prison term, although any sentence is likely to be suspended.
Say, who has served as a cultural ambassador for the European Union, rejected the charges and demanded his acquittal, according to the state-run Anadolu Agency.
The private Dogan news agency said the trial was adjourned until Feb. 18.

The prosecution has caused anger among intellectuals in Turkey and escalated concerns over freedom of expression in the country. Hundreds of his fans, supporters and human rights activists went to the courthouse in Istanbul in a show of solidarity, holding up signs that read: “Fazil Say is not alone” and “Free Art, Free World”
Say, 42, is a strong critic of the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a devout Muslim who has preached conservative values, alarming some secular Turks who fear the government plans to make religion part of their lifestyle.

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, aka Sam Bacile, was recently arrested for violations of his probation terms from a 2010 conviction for bank fraud. But many in both the legal and political world believe that the real crime for which he was jailed was blaspheming Islam.
Nakoula is an Egyptian-born US citizen with a history of drug and financial crimes. In 2010 he was sentenced to 21 months in jail and 5 years probation for bank fraud. The terms of his probation were that he was not allowed to use any alias names or use the Internet without prior approval from his probation officers.
Pakistan blocks YouTube over anti-Islam film

Citing objectionable content, Pakistani authorities have blocked user access to about 20,000 websites, including YouTube. The objectionable content hosted on the blocked websites includes footage from the anti-Islam movie ‘Innocence of Muslims’.
In his statement to PTI, an official of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority stated that user access was blocked to about 20,000 websites following a court order. A sessions court in Lahore, reportedly ordered the registration of a case against the PTA Chairman for the organisation’s failure to block footage from the anti-Islam film on the Internet. “The PTA has not only blocked websites featuring the anti-Islam film but thousands of others with objectionable material,” added the official further.

The official added that it is unlikely that the ban on YouTube will be lifted anytime soon. “The ban on YouTube will continue as long as it does not remove the blasphemous film. Pakistan can take no chances on lifting the ban as people are not ready to accept this film,” he added. He went on to assert that if YouTube continues to carry the objectionable video, the ban will continue for “an indefinite period”.
Painting on wall of Modern Warfare 2 toilet upsets Muslims

Activision’s developers have aggravated the Muslim community by hanging a painting above a toilet in Modern Warfare 2.
The painting has holy teachings written around its frame. “Allah is beautiful and He loves beauty,” the text is reported to have read.
Apparently the presence of holy teachings in a place of number-ones and twos does not sit well with Islam. So Activision has pulled the Favela map out of rotation and will return it when edits have been made.

HSBC scraps Sharia-compliant mortgages

HSBC has stopped offering Sharia-compliant mortgage products following a strategic review of the bank’s businesses, according to The Times.
According to the paper, HSBC is scrapping Islamic loans and bank accounts for personal customers in Britain and several other countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Bangladesh.
A spokesman says: “Sharia mortgages are a very small business line for us in the UK. This is part of a strategic review of all our businesses.”
HSBC began offering Sharia-compliant home loans in 2003. The products account for 21,000 of HSBC’s 16 million bank accounts in the UK and £350m of mortgages out of HSBC’s book of £70bn.

A better than average desecration of a koran
To be frank I would like to get past this sophomoric business of flushing, burning, and making papier-mache pigs out of the muslim war manual and get on to more important things. But in a very real way, this is perhaps one of the most important things.
Think of it like a sort of intellectual, ‘tragedy-of-the-commons’. Where the truly wonderful ideal of a common space we all cooperatively occupy has been relinquished to the most illiberal forces alive today. Islam. That by politeness we have abandoned a precious spot on our yard and since we weren’t using it anyway, a law was passed saying that we now in fact cannot use it at all. The next step was obvious. That our enemies would take that space for themselves and what was precious free speech and the bulwark against a new dark age of irrational religious authority was not only ceded by us but handed to enemies of rational law without so much as an arrow fired from our side.
So perhaps we need to take that space back. And each time Muslims demand that we dumb down to sharia norms no matter how cleverly they phrase it, we must remind them that no laws can silence us. That no fetish object like the koran can be made sacred to someone who chooses not to hold it sacred for themselves.
That we will fight them. Perhaps to quote their vile book to our purpose:
“with every stratagem of war”

Offending fruit: An atheist society at Reading University were ejected from the freshers’ fair after displaying a pineapple labelled with the name of the Prophet Mohammed
A group of atheist students were thrown out of their freshers’ fair because they included a pineapple labelled ‘Mohammed’ on their stall.
The Reading University Atheist, Humanist and Secularist Society (RAHS) said they wanted to celebrate free speech and promote their upcoming debate ‘Should we respect religion?’
But they were ordered to remove the offending fruit by union staff who said their actions were causing ‘upset and distress’ to a number of Muslim students and other societies.
RAHS refused, citing that they had labelled the pineapple after the Islamic prophet to ‘encourage discussion about blasphemy, religion, and liberty’.
A spokesman said: ‘We wanted to celebrate the fact that we live in a country in which free speech is protected and where it is lawful to call a pineapple by whatever name one chooses.’
