Senior Al-Qaeda Operative: The World is on the Brink of Anarchy; The Mujahideen Have a Chance to Fill the Vacuum and Establish the Caliphate

On November 26, the jihadi website Shumoukh Al-Islam posted an article by senior Al-Qaeda operative ‘Abdallah Al-‘Adam, known as “Abu ‘Ubaida,” titled “The World on the Brink of Anarchy.” In it, he claims that the Arab countries will not stabilize but deteriorate into anarchy, because the Muslims, and especially the Arabs, are not suited for democracy and can be ruled “only by force or through religion.” He also claims that the U.S. is about to collapse, and that its demise will generate a global economic crisis so severe that it will pitch the entire world into anarchy. Abu ‘Ubaida advises the mujahideen to take advantage of the power vacuum that ensues throughout the world, and to prepare public opinion for the coming of the Caliphate. He also advises them to prepare for the wars that will come by amassing weapons and turning their paper money into gold.

Bargain holidays for Westerners looking to get a bit of sunshine and a drink by the pool in the winter could be a thing of the past on Egypt’s Red Sea coast.

The Muslim Brotherhood, which won success in the first round of parliamentary elections last month, is set on turning Egypt into a ‘sin-free’ holiday resort.

But the end of sun worshippers flying to resorts like Sharm el-Sheikh could spell disaster for an economy that has already been battered by this year’s political unrest.

Cucumbers are forbidden for women, says Islamic sheikh.

CAIRO: An Islamic cleric residing in Europe said that women should not be close to bananas or cucumbers, in order to avoid any “sexual thoughts.”

The unnamed sheikh, who was featured in an article on el-Senousa news, was quoted saying that if women wish to eat these food items, a third party, preferably a male related to them such as their a father or husband, should cut the items into small pieces and serve. Continue Reading →

Islamists led by the Muslim Brotherhood and radical Salafists appear to have taken a strong majority of seats in the first round of Egypt’s first parliamentary vote since Hosni Mubarak‘s ouster, a trend that if confirmed would give the religious parties a popular mandate in the struggle to win control from the ruling military and ultimately reshape a key U.S. ally.

Spokesman Yousseri Hamad says the Salafi Nour party expects to get 30% of the vote. Their party appeared to lead the polls in the Nile Delta province of Kafr el-Sheik, in the rural area of Fayoum, which is known for high rates of illiteracy and poverty, and in parts of their longtime stronghold of Alexandria.

Hamad also said the party faced its toughest challenge in Cairo because of the small presence of Salafi supporters there.

The strong showing would put them in a strong position to influence policy, although it’s unclear how much power the new parliament will have with the ruling generals still in power.

Hamad said that his party is willing to cooperate with the rest of the secular, liberal and Islamist forces, “if it will serve the interest of the nation.”

This week’s vote, held in nine provinces, will determine about 30% of the 498 seats in the People’s Assembly, parliament’s lower house. Two more rounds, ending in January, will cover Egypt’s other 18 provinces.

The new parliament, in theory, is tasked with selecting a 100-member panel to draft Egypt’s new constitution. The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which took control of the country after Mubarak’s fall in February, has suggested that it will choose 80 of those members.

The Nour Party is the main political arm of the hard-line Salafi movement, which unlike the more moderate Muslim Brotherhood is a new player on Egypt’s political scene.

Inspired by the Saudi-style Wahhabi school of thought, Salafists have long shunned the concept of democracy, saying it allows man’s law to override God’s. But they formed parties and entered politics after Mubarak’s ouster to position themselves to make sure Shariah law is an integral part of Egypt’s new constitution.

Salafi groups speak confidently about their ambition to turn Egypt into a state where personal freedoms, including freedom of speech, women’s dress and art are constrained by Islamic Shariah codes.

“In the land of Islam, I can’t let people decide what is permissible or what is prohibited. It’s God who gives the answers as to what is right and what is wrong,” Hamad said. “If God tells me you can drink whatever you want except for alcohol, you don’t leave the million things permitted and ask about the prohibited

Egypt: Partial results show Islamist lead in vote

CAIRO (AP) — Egyptian judges overseeing counting say Islamist parties are so far leading in initial, partial results from Egypt’s parliamentary elections.

Judges say the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt’s most powerful fundamentalist group, had the biggest share of votes so far from partial counts in the cities of Alexandria, Luxor, Port Said, Fayoum and Kafr el-Sheik, with between 30 to 70 percent of the votes counted in those places. Vote counting in the capital Cairo was still to early to show any trend.

The judges say the Nour Party, made up of ultraconservative Islamic Salafis, and an alliance of lliberal-secular parties come next. They were unable to give proportions for each faction.

The judges spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press.

As authoritative figures have said, equal rights have not been entirely achieved in Turkey and among the complaints on the condition of women the moderate Islamic PM’s call – who has four children – for every family to have at least three is often cited. Turkey is among the last places (126th out of 131) in the rankings of the 2010 World Economic Forum report as concerns the gender gap between men and women. However, the European Union considers the legal framework for women’s rights adequate in Turkey, a country with a population of mostly Muslims but secular legislation brought in during the 1920s and 1930s by Kemal Ataturk, who banned the Islamic headscarf and introduced divorce, abortion, civil marriage, equal inheritance rights and gender equality. Ethiopian extremist group has plans for Sharia takeover

Ethiopia (MNN) ? Ethiopia has seen its fair share of radicalism. But recently, radical Islamic propaganda was found encouraging people to support Sharia law alone.

In a recent press conference, the Ethiopian government expressed its concern over the growing violence against moderate Muslims and Christians by radical Wahhabi Muslims, reports Voice of the Martyrs, Canada.

The government also announced the discovery of plans by the Wahhabi Muslims to turn Ethiopia into an Islamic country governed by Sharia law.

“We have found evidences and pamphlets [which] were publicly distributed during the month of Ramadan calling on the Muslim community to stand up against all non-Wahhabi Muslims and followers of other religions,” said Mersessa Reda, the Director General at the Ministry of Federal Affairs of Ethiopia. Bang a drum loudly. BBC humping the meme that ‘radical Islam’ is due to poverty and corruption

Last night the BBC aired a fairly good documentary on Dagestan and the Saudi-funded and inspired Salafi (Orthodox) Islamic insurgence that seeks to overthrow the secular state and install a sharia based, Islamic caliphate.

What makes this otherwise-important short documentary so annoying is the persistent insertion of the meme that this form of religiosity is tied to poverty or economics when even this documentary admits that the inspiration is from Saudi Arabia, Among the wealthiest per-capita nations on earth, and that every study on terrorists have shown them to be at least middle class and usually with average to better than average educations.

What inspires Muslims to fight, kill, terrorize and demand an Islamic state is simple actually.

Islam.

This MEMRI clip shows how, exactly like Iran’s revolution, Egypt went from a lot of frustrated and angry liberals to ‘fundamustards’ (hard core orthodox Muslims of the Islamic Brotherhood variety) brandishing Al-Queda banners and demanding full sharia law implementation.

And like Iran, I wouldn’t bet against it.

Female Candidate for Egyptian Parliament: ‘Women are Deficient in Intelligence’ and it is ‘Not Permissible for Them to Be in Authority’

In what seems a rather counterproductive statement for a woman seeking political office — a position of “authority” — to make, one female Egyptian parliamentary candidate made the damning affirmation that women are “deficient” in both “intelligence and religion” and thus it is “impermissible” for them to hold positions of authority.

One wonders how Muna Salah reconciles her own candidacy for higher office then. Well, according to Translating Jihad, Salah justifies her parliamentary bid by asserting the role would grant her “partial” rather than full authority. If elected, Salah seeks to implement Shariah law.

A female salafi candidate for Egyptian Parliament, Muna Salah, said to al-Sharq al-Awsat that women are deficient in intelligence and religion, and it is not permissible for them to be in authority or to occupy the office of the presidency. She defended her candidacy for the People’s Council, saying that acting as a representative in the Council is only partial authority and not complete authority, such as the presidency of the republic. She added that she seeks to apply the Islamic shari’a, including cutting off the hands of thieves, preventing the mingling of men and women, and specifying black clothes for women and white clothes for men.

Translating Jihad also points out that Salah‘s belief in a woman’s lack of intelligence and religion comes from somewhere — and that she is in fact quoting directly from Muhammad, as recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari:

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: Once Allah’s Apostle went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) o ‘Id-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, “O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women).” They asked, “Why is it so, O Allah’s Apostle ?” He replied, “You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you.
