NEW YORK (Reuters) – More than a dozen Muslim community leaders boycotted an interfaith breakfast organized by Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Friday to protest reported police surveillance of Muslim areas since the September 11, 2001, attacks.
In an open letter to Bloomberg, the leaders accused the mayor of ignoring concerns that the New York Police Department has been using racial profiling and violating civil rights in its anti-terrorism surveillance programs.
“We believe with heartfelt conviction that during times when a community’s rights are being flagrantly violated its leaders cannot in good conscience appear at a public gathering with the government official who is ultimately responsible and smile for the cameras as if all is well, when we know full well that it is not,” the letter said.
The letter cited a series of articles earlier this year by The Associated Press that alleged that police, at times in cooperation with the CIA, infiltrated New York mosques, Muslim bookshops and other Islamic businesses and institutions to gather intelligence without specific evidence of any criminal activity.
The letter was signed by 15 leaders of Muslim organizations based in New York City who said they were turning down their breakfast invitation, as well as the leaders of several dozen other faith organizations and civil rights groups. Continue Reading →
American Muslims upset with counter terrorism efforts
The jury trickles in. Christmas slaughter looking more like honour killing than like mental breakdown.
Jihad watch via The Blaze brings us some interesting facts. The father would not let the daughter wear certain things, not date till an unspecified age, not date outside the religion, and was constantly checking cell phone records. The daughters were terrified of him. As we predicted yesterday, this would likely be an honor killing.

From the news reports I saw, the rest of the family sounded like great Americans, celebrating Christmas and greeting returning troops with enthusiastic cheers. I hope that history will show that the murder of these people will be properly avenged by Western nations waking up and passing appropriate legislation to deal with Islam and it’s inevitable consequences on free societies.
May all but the killer rest in peace.

This is horrible. Of course we will have to wait till the now-mandatory, ‘too late for outrage’ period has passed before we see somewhere on page 23 for half a column inch that he was a devout Muslim and this was an honor killing as his wife forced him out. But for the moment we know his family seemed great, was a good American family who liked all aspects of US life and supported the troops but were Iranian Muslims. Right up to the point where the estranged husband slaughtered everyone dressed as Santa, they were an excellent example of the moderate Muslim.
And frankly even if this was not an honor killing, an Islamic background and imprinted value-set would have been at least a factor in his decision to do what he did.

- A Muslim woman who had been charged with sending fake weapons and a pig’s foot to two New York lawmakers was killed during a struggle with a cop in Georgia on Sunday, authorities said.
Jameela Barnette, 53, of Marietta, was slapped with federal charges last month for sending New York State Sen. Greg Ball (R,C-Patterson) a vial of perfume, a hate-filled letter and a doll of the monkey Curious George wearing two Stars of David.
She had also mailed a pig’s foot to Rep. Peter King (R-L.I.) in response to controversial hearings he held in March on the purported radicalization of American Muslims, Politico has reported.
A spokesman for Cobb County Police said an armed Barnette was shot to death after officers responded to a panic alarm she activated at her apartment at 11 a.m. Christmas Day. Continue Reading →

Two North Carolina men were sentenced to prison Tuesday for their roles in a home-grown terror cell that prosecutors say plotted attacks under their father’s leadership.

A US investigation has revealed that proceeds from drug smuggling and other criminal enterprises have been laundered through a prominent Lebanese bank and used as funding for militant group Hezbollah.
A six-year investigation by the United States into the inner workings of the Lebanese Canadian Bank (LCB), one of Beirut’s many secretive financial institutions, has revealed an intricate web of money laundering and criminal activity through which the militant group Hezbollah has been deriving new strands of funding.
In an extensive report by the New York Times last week, the US operation into the LCB’s activities, which began shortly after Hezbollah’s 2006 summer war with Israel, has revealed that the depths of the bank’s connections with the powerful Lebanese militant group have been carefully buried under untainted assets for years.
After painstakingly gathering information from undercover sources and networks, the investigation, according to the NYT, has hit pay dirt in the last few months with damaging evidence emerging during the sale of the LCB, a former subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Canada Middle East, to a Beirut-based partner of the French banking giant Société Générale.
