Iran Dispatches Naval Flotilla to Gulf of Aden

First of all, I should explain that while a more sophisticated WP user than I, could set up some kind of automatic posting of the Reader’s links contribution post that is supposed to come every day at a minute after midnight give or take a few minutes, I don’t know how to do that. So I create as many as I can at a give moment before the repetition of it gets to me, and set each one to auto-publish at about the right time.

Usually I do about 2 weeks worth at a time, and then I forget about it. This is why about twice a month, the daily links post is late!

Meanwhile, Iran has moved destroyers in between US positions in the Gulf and Houthi (Iranian proxy army) captured positions in Yemen as a response to the US taking out targeting radars on the Yemeni coast, itself a response to the firing of at least FOUR missiles at US ships in international waters.

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Navy has deployed a flotilla of warships to international waters for a mission that includes presence in the waters off the southern coasts of Yemen.

Iran’s 44th flotilla, comprising Alvand destroyer and Bushehr logistic warship, has been dispatched to the Gulf of Aden and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait to protect the country’s trade vessels against piracy in the unsafe zone.

 

The Iranian fleet will head for the waters near Somalia and Tanzania afterwards through the Indian Ocean.

 

After making a port call in Tanzania, the 44th fleet will sail along the eastern coasts of Africa if the weather holds out, and is scheduled to sail even for the western coasts of South Africa, in the South Atlantic Ocean.

Firstly, I would like to take a paragraph to congratulate a young feminist who actually teaches us what principles actually mean.

Here is a young woman, who has decided to skip an event that would have advanced her highly rarified career a great deal and is risking losing it all on a matter of principle. And in a manner which only hurts herself. This is the true definition of “martyr”, as opposed to the Islamic degradation and inversion of the term. She did this in a world where some people who even understand the issue of the danger of Islam in the world, won’t even skip a single meal at a halal restaurant because they like the Chicken there. This woman actually gave up a lot. So full kudos to you Ms. Paikidze. I bet there is a huge community out there willing to support you in various ways once they understand that you are ready to pay for your principled choices.

After all. If principles were cheap, we would all have them. Right?

The the reigning US Women’s Chess Champion has said she would rather sacrifice her career than submit to demands to wear a hijab at the next world championship.

Nazi Paikidze, one of the nation’s best-ranked players, swore to boycott the 2017 contest, which is being held in Iran and will have an enforced Islamic dress code.

Paikidze admitted that the decision will harm her career, but said that doing the bidding of an oppressive regime in order to compete is not a price worth paying.

That sign looks an awful lot like this one:

Translation:

Ansar Allah’s slogan is: “God is great. Death to America. Death to Israel. A curse on the Jews. Victory to Islam.”

That doesn’t seem to be quite the same message as the RT title.

It’s possible that is still what the protest is about, but these are the Houthi sighns and slogans, which have nothing to do with the Saudis.

The Houthis are Iran’s proxy army in Yemen as Hizb’allah is in Lebanon.

Reuters: Iranian protesters storm Saudi embassy, foreign ministry calls for calm

Angry Iranian protesters stormed Saudi Arabia’s embassy in Tehran in the early hours of Sunday, smashing furniture and starting fires before being removed by the police.

The protesters had gathered outside the embassy to protest against Saudi Arabia’s execution of Nimr al-Nimr, a prominent cleric from the kingdom’s Shi’ite minority, on terrorism charges that Iran said were unjustified.

They then broke into the building and lit fires inside before being cleared by police, the ISNA news agency reported. Images shared on social media appeared to show protesters smashing furniture inside the embassy.

Iran Government publishes threat to Israel video via official channels.

This Iranian regime video was released via the JAM agency, the IRI’s state extra-national information service for Internet etc. With thanks to Shabnam for her help in translating the Farsi, we can bring you the details, although the message is pretty obvious for anyone who has ever seen Jerusalem from any angle. The arial shot near the end is especially foreboding perhaps.

1. Obama tells Israeli TV channel no military solution to Iran’s nuclear program

JERUSALEM — U.S President Barack Obama reached out to a skeptical Israeli public in an interview aired Monday saying that only an agreement, not military action, can prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Obama said “I can, I think, demonstrate, not based on any hope but on facts and evidence and analysis, that the best way to prevent Iran from having a nuclear weapon is a verifiable, tough agreement.”

Obama’s remarks come as an end-of-June deadline for an Iranian deal is fast approaching.

“A military solution will not fix it. Even if the United States participates, it would temporarily slow down an Iranian nuclear program but it will not eliminate it,” he said in excerpts from his interview with Israeli Channel 2 TV’s investigative program “Uvda.”

(Of course with the sanctions already ended it is hard to see the percentage for Iran to come to a deal)
