Violence has erupted between Muslims and Christians near the Egyptian capital city, killing five people and injuring eight, reports Egyptian state news. The clashes reportedly began on Friday night and continued well into Saturday.
A brawl between two rival communities left four Coptic Christians dead as well as one Muslim in al-Khusus, northeast of Cairo, reported Reuters.
Sources said that the violence was sparked on Friday night when a group of Christian children were caught drawing graffiti on the wall of a Muslim religious institute.
A nearby Anglican church was allegedly set ablaze during the dispute.
In spite of President Mohammed Morsi’s pledge to protect Egypt’s Coptic Christian minority upon assuming power last year, Muslim-Christian clashes have been on the increase and sectarian tensions continue to run high.

Wow maybe someone in Egypt should think about maybe trying to get Western tourists to come and admire the ancient artifacts left over from when the people of Egypt did stuff. I bet that money would go a long way to buying food from people who grow stuff.
Let us hope that Canada and other food producing nations do not make the same mistake with Egypt that we all did with North Korea and give them food so that they can continue to implement horrible policies and divert resources towards trying to destroy us rather than feed their own and develop civilization. Something about, ‘destroying them in their own house with their own miserable hands’ I think it went.
Had the last several presidents not submitted to NORK blackmail they would never have developed the bomb.

Egypt needs IMF money to stay afloat, but the international lender is demanding tough subsidy cuts from an already-embattled government.

It was a perilous time for Egypt. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) was demanding subsidy cuts in exchange for a loan Egypt’s leaders desperately wanted. So they complied, cutting subsidies on the bread, cooking fuel, and gasoline average citizens relied on to live.

Cairo: At least 540 students at Egypt’s religious Al Azhar University had suffered food poisoning, reported the health Ministry on Tuesday.
The poisoning was blamed on unhealthy meals that students had eaten at their dormitory in Cairo. The cases angered the university’s students, who on Tuesday held a mass protest and blocked the traffic outside the headquarters of the institution in the suburban Cairo area of Nasr City.
State television reported that President Mohammad Mursi had visited some sick students at a Cairo hospital.

Over 500 Egyptian students of Al-Azhar University, a leading centre of Islamic learning, have been admitted to a hospital here with food poisoning, sparking widespread protests.
Hundreds of angry students gathered today to protest deteriorating conditions at the university’s hostels and negligence by management after the health ministry said 540 students from Al-Azhar had been hospitalised.
Student union member Abdullah Abdel-Moteleb told Al-Ahram newspaper that meals served at the hostel yesterday were of noticeably poorer quality than usual.
“By around 6pm, dozens were suffering the effects of food poisoning and were taken to hospital,” he said.
Yesterday it was posted here that this particular TV satirist and heart surgeon had turned himself in to police who wanted him for daring to speak negatively about Islam and the government, which I am quite certain sees itself as religion.
As a celebrity in a volatile nation they seem to give him better treatment than they do for ordinary citizens they see as not quite so sympathetic to the regime. Even so, this person deserves major kudos for bravery. He could be a game changer. Both as a popular TV host or as a heart surgeon this person could have a pretty amazing life anywhere he chose to live. The fact that he is taking this risk to take on this horrifying and totalitarian regime for the sake of his country shows a great deal of character.

View PhotoPopular Egyptian television satirist …CAIRO (AP) — Egypt’s most popular television satirist, who every week skewers the Islamist president and hard-line clerics on his Jon Stewart-style show, was released on bail Sunday but could face charges of insulting the country’s leader and Islam.
Bassem Youssef is the most prominent critic of President Mohammed Morsi to be called in for questioning in recent weeks, in what the opposition says is a campaign to intimidate critics amid wave after wave of political unrest in deeply polarized Egypt.
Arrest warrants have been issued for five prominent anti-government activists accused of instigating violence.
The international community should be watching this extremely closely. This is a major event and has the potential to be a global awakening at least to who the Ikhwan is, if not Islam overall.
I certainly hope regular reports come in on the fate of this TV host.
Prosecutors in Egypt were questioning popular satirist Bassem Youssef on Sunday over alleged insults to the president and to religion, reigniting calls for freedom of expression in post-revolt Egypt.
Youssef, whose weekly programme Albernameg (The Show) has pushed the boundaries of local television with its merciless critique of those in power, continued to challenge the authorities even as he arrived at the prosecutor’s office.
One does have to wonder, is it the government that tried to cut the internet from Egypt? And is it the government that the military in Egypt is calling criminal? If so, this could work out OK.

Egypt’s marines stopped a ‘criminal operation’ on Wednesday to sever a regional Mediterranean cable providing internet to Egypt, said a military source.
Wearing diving suits, three of the “criminals” were arrested while on a fishing boat in the Shatbi area in the coastal city of Alexandria.
Internet services in Egypt have been disrupted by earlier damage to an undersea cable, Link Dot Net boss Waseem Arsani told Ahram Online earlier in the day.

Such stories have become increasingly common as tensions between Egypt’s Muslims and Copts mount, but in the latest case, mosque officials corroborated much of the account and even filed a police report. Demonstrators, some of whom were Muslim, say they were taken from the Muslim Brotherhood headquarters in suburban Cairo to a nearby mosque on Friday and tortured for hours by hard-line militia members.
I knew we had rule-of-law for a reason. Maybe this is it. Can someone please define the words, ‘savage’ or ‘barbarian’ that would not apply to these people?

Magic Marty left this paragraph from his source paper:
Egyptian villagers lynch suspected car thief
Egyptian villagers lynched a suspected car thief on Thursday, security sources said, in the latest in a spate of such vigilante killings in the face of growing lawlessness.
The lynching, in the Nile Delta village of Ezbat Al Gindy, came days after residents of another village strung up two suspected criminals in an incident described by the justice minister as a sign of the “death of the state”.
A police official said 17 such killings have occurred just in Sharqiya province, where Ezbat Al Gindy is located, since a 2011 uprising overthrew president Hosni Mubarak and took a severe toll on his security services.
The official said the man hanged from a tree in the Ezbat Al Gindy had tried to steal a car, whose owner appealed to passersby for help.
The bodies of those lynched are publicly displayed to serve as a warning to others, amid rising crime rates and a decreased police presence.
But in many rural areas, residents have often been left to fend for themselves because of a delayed response by police.

(AINA) — Hundreds of Muslims marched for the second day through the street of the Egyptian town of El-Wasta, 90 kilometers south of Cairo in Beni Suef Province, to protest the disappearance of a young Muslim girl, Rania Shazli, and accuse the priest of St. George’s Church in Wasta of using black magic to lure her to Christianity.
The girl’s uncle lead a group of Muslims to force the Copts in town to close all their businesses until the girl is brought back to her family. Coptic owners who refused were forcefully shut down. The Shazli family, supported by local Salafists, threatened to kidnap a Christian girl if their daughter is not brought back and vowed to destroy the church after prayers on Friday, March 22nd.
During yesterday’s march a number of Muslims hurled stones at St. George’s church. They had intended to stage a sit-in in front of the church, but were persuaded by some Muslim elders to dispense. They also hurled stones at Coptic-owned homes. The demonstrators roamed the streets of the city starting from the home of the girl and chanted “Why are you keeping silent, is she not like your sister.”
The church instructed Copts to close their businesses after a delegation of Muslims and Christians went to the Police Department after security failed to find the girl.
Looks like ABC gave up trying to invent cover-stories and just went with the truth on that one. No small triumph really.
Hundreds of Muslim villagers in Egypt’s south have attacked Christian-owned stores in search of a girl whose family claims was abducted.
The villagers assaulted the stores Tuesday and surrounded two churches in the city of al-Wasta in Bani Suef province in Egypt’s south. Security forces guarded the churches. No casualties were reported.

Some Western analysts suspect the “democratic” revolution in Egypt is a front for an Islamic takeover, and now a report has surfaced that a key Egyptian cleric, Mas’oud Anwar, has advocated for adoption of Islamic law as the nation’s new standard.
WND previously has reported how Muslims in Egypt are becoming more aggressive in their attacks on Christians and Christian churches.

I am not 100% sure about anything in this video. But it purports to be the burning-alive of a man for the crime of the Practice of ‘al Haraba’.
From the youtube page where the video is from,
Al- Haraba , means, fighting against Allah and his Prophet Muhammad, According to Islamic law the Islamic crime of Haraba (Quran 5:33) has to be punished by death penalty.
Hopefully more information will appear about this before every decent judge, lawyer, journalist and human being for that matter gets out of Egypt like steam from a volcano.

I have had discussions with people concerned about the election of Obama who said words to the effect that ‘Whether he makes any changes in law or not concerns me less than how the entire culture of the US will shift towards leftist thinking. A much harder thing to reverse than mere legislation’
This is certainly massively true for the Ikhwan in Egypt. Irrespective of the horrific changes in the constitution that the Muslim Brotherhood has made in law, the mere fact of their presence as authority in Egypt has created an atmosphere where religious Muslims feel entitled to act in ways anathema to civilization itself.
While the comparison here is mild, it is not entirely specious. The fact that Obama, and his anti-2nd-amendment stance, even if just perceived, seemed to encouraged some publications to make public the names and addresses of people in New York who are legal gun owners for the purpose focusing public bile against them. A truly medieval approach even if a non-violent one directly. But violence did follow as people learned who had what weapons and where.

Justice Minister Ahmed Mekky on Sunday slammed the public lynching of two men accused of theft in Egypt’s Gharbiya governorate, describing the incident as a sign of “the death of the state.”
In statements to the Turkish Anadolu news agency on Sunday, the minister condemned the incident in which village residents applied the ‘Haraba penalty’ of Islamic law by beating two men accused of theft and hanging them from a tree until they died.
The ‘Haraba’ penalty in Islamic Law means the execution or crucifixion of anyone who terrorises or kills others in order to steal from them. According to most Muslim clerics, only the state has the authority to apply the penalty.
I remember how people got furious at Pamela Geller’s choice of words on the posters she put at the NYC subway when she referred to sharia compliant Muslims as “savages”.
Exactly what is a savage, if this is not?

( Associated Press ) – EDS NOTE GRAPHIC CONTENT — Egyptian men surround the bodies of two men who were beaten and hung by vigilantes after being accused of theft in Samanod, about 55 miles (90 kilometers) north of Cairo, Egypt, Sunday March 17, 2013. Egyptian vigilantes beat two men accused of stealing a motorized rickshaw, then stripped them half-naked and hung them still alive in a bus station in a small Nile Delta town on Sunday, according to security officials who said both men died. The killings came a week after the attorney general’s office encouraged civilians to arrest lawbreakers and hand them over to police.
