MONTREAL – A Quebec woman was charged Friday with aiding what the Canadian government considers a terrorist group by allegedly trying to smuggle gun parts to Lebanon in 2011.

The RCMP told QMI Agency that Mouna Diab, 26, was allegedly working with a contact in Lebanon associated with Hezbollah, a political party and militant group that is on Canada’s official list of terrorist organizations.

Diab used to be an activist and travelled to small-town Quebec in 2007 to try to dispel negative stereotypes about Muslims.

She was originally arrested in May 2011 at Montreal’s main airport. Police said she was caught on her way to Lebanon with parts of AR-15 semi-automatic rifles in her luggage.

She was charged in 2011 with contravening Section 3 of Canada’s Regulations Implementing the United Nations Resolution on Lebanon: “No person in Canada and Canadian outside Canada shall knowingly export, sell, supply or ship directly or indirectly, arms and related material, wherever situated, to any person in Lebanon.”

Report: Israel detonated spy device in Lebanon

YNET News:

Local media outlets say warplane fired air-to-ground missile at espionage device that was exposed by Hezbollah

An air-to-ground missile fired by an Israeli plane on Monday detonated a surveillance device that was planted between the southern Lebanese towns of Zrariyeh and Tayr Filsay, the National News Agency reported.

According to the report, the device was planted on a Hizbullah telecommunications cable. The device was destroyed by Israel because the terror group had exposed it, the National News Agency reported.

Lebanese media reported that Israeli warplanes have been flying at a low altitude over the country’s southern sector since the afternoon hours, while Hizbullah has cordoned off the area.

Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television network reported that Israel detonated an explosive device planted on one of the “resistance’s” communication lines.

Argentina’s Carlos Menem faces bombing trial

The posts today may be a little weighted on the subject of antisemitism. However this is because the attacks on Jewish people by Muslims seem to be experiencing quite an uptick just at the moment.

H/T Fausta W

From BBC:

Carlos Menem, speaks at the Senate in Buenos Aires on July 17, 2008 Carlos Menem was president at the time of the attack

Former Argentine President Carlos Menem is to stand trial for allegedly obstructing an investigation into an attack on a Jewish cultural centre in Buenos Aires, officials have said.

Argentina blamed the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah for the 1994 bombing, which killed 85 people.

But prosecutors say evidence indicating the involvement of local accomplices in the attack was covered up.

No-one has ever been convicted of the car bombing.

The attack on the Argentine Jewish Mutual Association took place on 18 July, 1994, during Carlos Menem’s first term in office as president.

The bombing demolished the seven-storey cultural centre.

Argentine prosecutors said Iran planned and financed the attack, and that a Hezbollah cell carried it out.

The prosecutors say there is evidence that the Argentine intelligence services and security forces helped cover up the tracks of local accomplices of the attackers.

Iranian failed suicide bomber blows his pants off in Bangkok Feb 14

Thai police find large cache of bomb-making materials

BBC:

Thai police lead a detained a suspect with alleged links to Hezbollah Thai police have detained a suspect with alleged links to Hezbollah.

Police in Thailand say they have found a large supply of materials for making bombs, following the detention of a suspect with alleged links to Hezbollah.

The suspect led police to a building containing more than 300 boxes of fertiliser and ammonium nitrate.

The raid follows the terror alert issued by the US and Israel warning citizens to avoid tourist sites.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said that the situation was under control.

The suspect, who was detained last week, is said to be a Lebanese man with a Swedish passport.

Police say the man has links to Hezbollah, a Lebanon-based Shia Islamist movement backed by Syria and Iran that the US considers to be a terrorist organisation.

A second suspect is also believed to have left Thailand.

A police spokesman told local media that the chemicals were going to be shipped out of Thailand for use in an unspecified third country.

The US embassy still has not lifted the warning it issued on Friday stating that Americans should “exercise caution when visiting public areas where large groups of Western tourists gather”.

Hezbollah: ‘the Gambinos on steroids’

By JONATHAN SCHANZER

It’s hard to uphold a reputation as a devoutly religious terrorist group if you make millions selling cocaine. Just ask Hezbollah.

Last month, the US government filed suit against a number of American and Lebanese businesses that allegedly helped bankroll the Lebanese terrorist group. The civil indictment in Manhattan blew the lid off a vast criminal network that included money-laundering, cocaine deals and more — including 30 US car dealerships that helped the group launder cash.

As one investigator quipped, Hezbollah is the “Gambinos on steroids.”

Looking like dupes for thugs: Hezbollah backers in a religious procession last month in Beiruit.

The indictment charges Hezbollah kingpin Ayman Joumaa with smuggling more than 100 tons of Colombian cocaine with the Mexican Zetas drug cartel, yielding hundreds of millions of dollars for the terror group. Indeed, the feds show that Hezbollah relies on a carefully constructed system of criminal enterprises from America to Africa to the Middle East.

Since its 1982 birth, Hezbollah has worked hard to portray itself as a “resistance” organization, fighting against the alleged injustices of Israel, the United States and others, earning it wide respect across the Middle East.

But today the group’s operatives — at home and abroad — are thugs who profit from drugs, fraud and more. This contradiction could help erode support among Hezbollah’s pious Shi’ite followers.

In fact, the US government has for years warned of the growing Hezbollah drug and crime operations in the lawless “Tri-Border Area” of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil.

In 2002, the problem hit closer to home. Two men were convicted of operating a multimillion-dollar cigarette-smuggling operation out of North Carolina, which funneled money back to Hezbollah.

Since then, US officials have grown increasingly alarmed by Hezbollah’s activities in the Western Hemisphere.

US investigation links Lebanese Canadian Bank to Hezbollah

DW-WORLD

A US investigation has revealed that proceeds from drug smuggling and other criminal enterprises have been laundered through a prominent Lebanese bank and used as funding for militant group Hezbollah.

A six-year investigation by the United States into the inner workings of the Lebanese Canadian Bank (LCB), one of Beirut’s many secretive financial institutions, has revealed an intricate web of money laundering and criminal activity through which the militant group Hezbollah has been deriving new strands of funding.

In an extensive report by the New York Times last week, the US operation into the LCB’s activities, which began shortly after Hezbollah’s 2006 summer war with Israel, has revealed that the depths of the bank’s connections with the powerful Lebanese militant group have been carefully buried under untainted assets for years.

After painstakingly gathering information from undercover sources and networks, the investigation, according to the NYT, has hit pay dirt in the last few months with damaging evidence emerging during the sale of the LCB, a former subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Canada Middle East, to a Beirut-based partner of the French banking giant Société Générale. ISLAMIZATION WATCH: TWO EXPLOSIONS ROCK LEBANON AS ALCOHOL ESTABLISHMENTS ARE ATTACKED

It’s the deepening of the islamization of Lebanon, the former Paris of the Middle East. In Turkey, Christian slaughter houses for pork were slowly phased out, just waiting for the sale of alcohol to be attacked there as well.

H/T: Missing Peace

Excerpt: “Lebanon’s tourism minister, Fadi Abboud, voiced concern about the explosions and said they were linked to the “spread of fundamentalism in the Middle East.”

The first explosion at 4:55 a.m. ripped through a restaurant at Queen Elissa Hotel, damaging several cars, including one belonging to a U.N. officer who works for the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO).

A similar explosion tore through a liquor store near the port of Tyre five minutes later, inflicting material damage.

According to explosive expert adjutant Talal Ajram the hotel bomb weighed three kilograms of TNT.

Commenting on the early-morning explosions, Interior Minister Marwan Charbel urged that the issue not be regarded as targeting the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL), saying the incidents centered on the fact that the establishments served alcohol.

“What happened today in Tyre is not security-related but linked to the sale of alcohol,” Charbel told Voice of Lebanon (93.3 FM).

Lebanese security forces cordoned off the area around Queen Elissa Hotel, preventing reporters and photographers from getting close to the site.

Serbia: Police smash heroin smuggling ring, 21 arrested

ADKRONOS

last update: October 07, 16:58

Belgrade, 7 Oct. (AKI) – In coordinated raids in several cities, Serbian police on Friday broke up a heroin smuggling ring arresting 21 people, police director Milorad Veljovic said.

The police seized over 50 kilogrammes of heroin in Belgrade, Kraljevo and the southern city of Novi Pazar. Among those arrested was the ringleader Hikmet Hajrovic, a Muslim who had already been sentenced to five and half years for drug smuggling, Veljovic said.

Balkans have become a main route of drug smuggling from the Middle East to western Europe and 20 people were arrested in 2009 for smuggling over two tones of cocaine from South America.

According to police records, several drug smuggling gangs operate in Serbia. Veljovic said Hajrovic’s gang on the average distributed up to seven kilos of heroine a week in Belgrade alone.

The Mounting Hezbollah Threat in Latin America

Over the last several years Hezbollah and its patrons in Iran have greatly expanded their operations in Latin America to the detriment of inter-American security and US strategic interests. Today, Hezbollah is using the Western Hemisphere as a staging ground, fundraising center, and operational base to wage asymmetric warfare against the United States. Venezuela’s Hugo Chávez and other anti-American governments in the region have facilitated this expansion by rolling out the welcome mats for Hezbollah and Iran. US policymakers must increase their attention to this problem, expand their assets in the region, and develop a comprehensive strategy to combat this threat in a sustained and meaningful way.

Key points in this Outlook:

  • To ward off its international isolation and undermine US influence in the region, Iran, with its Hezbollah proxy in tow, has made a major diplomatic and economic push into the Western Hemisphere.
  • Hugo Chávez in Venezuela and other radical anti-American populists have made common cause with Iran and Hezbollah in waging asymmetric warfare against the United States.
  • Hezbollah’s criminality in the region has multiplied as it has established deeper relations with transnational criminal organizations.
  • Evidence indicates Hezbollah is sharing its terrorist experiences and techniques with Mexican drug cartels along the US border.

Hezbollah’s presence in Latin America dates to the mid-1980s, when it began sending operatives into the notoriously lawless region known as the tri-border area (TBA)—where the borders of Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay meet—to use it as a principal safe haven for fundraising, money laundering, recruitment, training, plotting, and other terrorist-related activities.1 Their activity also includes drug and arms trafficking, counterfeiting, forging travel documents, and pirating software and music. Their resulting proselytizing has led to the creation of numerous Hezbollah cells, with an estimated 460 operatives in the TBA by mid-2000.2

It is impossible to quantify the level of criminal activity taking place in the TBA, but some estimate that Islamic extremist groups there and in other suspect areas in Latin America remit $300 to $500 million per year in illicit profits to radical Islamic groups in the Middle East.3 US authorities have been well aware of the wanton criminality occurring in the TBA through the years and have cited some individuals and entities for providing financing to terrorist groups and achieved some extraditions, but the overall effort to combat the menace has been hampered by uneven levels of cooperation from the governments of Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay.

LatinAmerican-sidebar

It is not appropriate, though, to see this as simply a law enforcement issue, as if the illicit business activities and fundraising were ends in themselves. In fact, the nature of the threat has changed considerably. Hezbollah is a preeminent international terrorist organization dedicated to waging Islamic jihad against its enemies, which include the United States and its allies, and the threat it poses should be dealt with accordingly by all law-abiding nations.

The Hezbollah Modus Operandi

Building cells abroad in the service of Hezbollah’s mission involves substantial time and investment. The group sends only its most committed and intrepid operatives into new regions with no support. They must establish a network from scratch among which they can raise money to send back to the leadership in Lebanon, familiarize themselves with the territory and potential targets, and begin planning operations. Invariably, their missions involve infiltrating or establishing mosques or “Islamic centers” to help Hezbollah to spread its influence, legitimize its cause, and promote jihad on a global scale. Hizb’allah operates cells world wide to establish Islam as supreme

There may still be some people who do not already know this. I think my best clue was a few years ago, when the RCMP warned Canadians that Canadian based Hizb’allah cells were very likely going to attack Jewish targets within Canada. That and the simple fact that Chavez took what was the coolest country in South America and made it an Iranian patsy since his fear of being an American one borders on psychotic paranoia.

Below, the first part of an article by Reza Kallili published on American Thinker

The terrorist group Hezb’allah, based in Lebanon, is establishing “resistance cells” worldwide under the direction of Iran, according to Mohammad Hussein Babai, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in the province of Golestan.

The cells are already infiltrating the United States with the help of Venezuela’s Hugo Chávez and drug cartels.

The Iranian Student News Agency, which is close to the Guards, reported last week that Babai, during a press conference, revealed that these jihadist cells began forming after the 2006 Lebanon war between Israel and Hezb’allah, and with the current Islamic Awakening, they have expanded their operations.

Their mission, Babai said, is to help create an Islam-dominated world.

This is the first time that a high-ranking Revolutionary Guard commander in the Islamic regime of Iran has revealed the presence of such jihadist cells in the world.

“Today we are a witness to our power and authority in the world,” Babai said, “and because of our Islamic Revolution [of 1979], now there is an Islamic Awakening that, with the leadership of the dear supreme leader, Ayatollah [Ali] Khamenei, will become stronger and more resilient.”  The West refers to the Islamic Awakening as the Arab Spring.

Hassan Rahimpour Azghadi, who is a member of the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution and an important theorist of the Islamic regime in Iran, said in a televised speech last Friday that “today we must get ready for a global operation, and our forces should expand their operation throughout the world.”

Hezbollah In Cuba For Attacks On Israeli Targets In the Americas

A year ago many prominent Israelis seemed smitten with Fidel Castro. “I thank you from the bottom of my heart,” wrote Israeli President Shimon Peres to Fidel Castro on Sept. 24, 2010. “I must confess that your remarks were, in my opinion, unexpected and rife with unique intellectual depth. Your words presented a surprising bridge between a harsh reality and a new horizon. You tried to sail to bigger seas, to show that a small geographical size doesn’t have to reflect human smallness.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was not to be outdone: “The remarks attributed to Castro demonstrate his deep understanding of the history of the Jewish people and the State of Israel.”

Now this:

“The Italian daily Corriere della Sera is reporting that Hezbollah is setting up a base of operations in Cuba in order to extend its ability to reach Israeli targets in Latin America…According to the Tel Aviv daily Yedioth Ahronoth, three members of Hezbollah have already arrived in Cuba to set up the cell, which will allegedly “include 23 operatives, hand-picked by Talal Hamia, a senior member tasked with heading the covert operation. The clandestine terror operation is reportedly called “The Caribbean Case.”

Peres’ and Netanyahu’s sentiments last year sprung from  an interview Castro had bequeathed  the Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg,  where he outed himself as a lifelong but closet Likudnik. Not coincidentally, perhaps, the interview was arranged by the CFR’s Julia Sweig, alleged to be a Cuban “agent of influence” by the Defense Intelligence Agency’s top Cuba spycatchers, retired Lieut. Col. Chris Simmons.

How do you say Viva Fidel in Arabic?

“Ahmadinejad should be ashamed of himself for denying the Holocaust,” chided the man who as an adolescent carried his dog-eared Mein Kampf everywhere and who copied his “History will Absolve Me” speech straight from Hitler’s courtroom speech defending his Rathhaus Putsch.

“Israel  has a definite right to exist,” kibitzed the Stalinist who a year earlier declared that: “The Fuhrer’s swastika is today Israel’s banner!”, who co-sponsored the 1975 UN resolution  branding “Zionism as Racism,” and who sent some of his top troops to try and erase Israel during the Yom Kippur War.

“I don’t think anyone has been slandered more than the Jews,” rued the mass-murderer whose media runs these cartoons.
