A senior Syrian official on Monday issued a first direct warning that if attacked, his country would retaliate against Israel. Khalaf Muftah, a senior Baath Party official who used to serve as Syria’s assistant information minister, said in a radio interview that Damascus would consider Israel “behind the [Western] aggression and [it] will therefore come under fire.”

Syrian opposition activists say that the military has used chemical weapons against the Al Yarmouk district of Damascus, an area of the city comprised predominantly of Palestinian refugees, Israel Radio reported.
Russian analysis on sarin gas use in Syria
Ambassador Vitaly Churkin says Russian experts have evidence that Syrian rebels used a home-made rocket filled with sarin in an attack on Aleppo this year. He said the samples indicated the sarin and the projectile were produced in “cottage industry” conditions.

I get a lot of material about Iran. I am on Reza’s email list and others and even local hardworking and under-appreciated ex-pat Persian activists (thank you Shab) tirelessly monitoring IRI websites and Facebook front groups for the IRI trying to shame Canada into changing its foreign policy to be more Iran friendly.
Most of it I skip as its a whole field in and of itself. As one person, even with the team of fantastic readers and volunteers who send in material all the time, its impossible to cover all the horror that is shaping the coming darkness we are starting to see the leading edge of on the horizon now.
So it is appreciated when there is a single, well written summary of the Iranian situation as it likely is. Melanie wrote this article in the aftermath of the startling panel show she did on UK TV Saturday, the relevant bit of which was posted here at Vlad.

England and France have both confirmed the use of Sarin gas in the Syrian theater. But who used it?
There has been some speculation as to who used this WMD in Syria and England seems to lean towards the Assad regime albeit, as they say, due to all circumstantial evidence.

France said on Tuesday it was “certain” that the nerve agent sarin had been used in Syria, underlining a United Nations report that said the civil war had reached “new levels of cruelty and brutality.”
Tests carried out on samples showed the gas had been used “several times in Syria in limited areas,” Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said in a statement, according to Reuters.
The results of the tests have been handed to the UN, Fabius added – although details of the French claims were not immediately available. It was not clear which side had supposedly used the chemical weapon.
It came hours after a UN report said investigators had “reasonable grounds” to believe that limited amounts of chemical weapons had been used in Syria in a conflict where brutality was now a tactic of war.

Turkish security forces found a 2kg cylinder with sarin gas after searching the homes of Syrian militants from the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Nusra Front who were previously detained, Turkish media reports. The gas was reportedly going to be used in a bomb.
