1. France’s Marianne muse stirs pot with anti-Islam tweet
The leader of feminist activist group Femen, Inna Shevchenko, on Tuesday sparked an online controversy after posting an anti-Islam message to her Twitter account. Shevchenko is one of the inspirations for France’s new official stamp depicting Marianne, the feminine symbol of the French Republic – a fact that makes the accusations of Islamophobia she is currently facing even more inopportune. The “tweet” in question, published on July 9, reads: “What can be more stupid than Ramadan? What can be more uglier then this religion?”

A bomb has been found under an Italian embassy car in Libya’s capital Tripoli.
Diplomats had parked the car and gone shopping in the central Zawiyat Dahmani area when the driver noticed the device, officials said.
Police cordoned the area off and the bomb exploded, causing damage mainly to the back of the car. No-one was killed or injured.
A foreign ministry spokesman in Rome said two embassy officials had been travelling in the car.

(Reuters) – At least 11 people were killed and 35 wounded in clashes on Saturday between protesters and a Libyan militia operating with Defence Ministry approval in the eastern city of Benghazi, a doctor in the city said.
Residents said dozens of protesters had demonstrated outside the headquarters of the Libya Shield brigade demanding the disbanding of militias who have yet to lay down their weapons nearly two years after the overthrow of long-time dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
A doctor at central Benghazi’s al-Jalaa hospital said he had counted 11 dead and 35 wounded.

BENGHAZI, Libya (Reuters) – A man was killed in an overnight attack on police in Libya’s eastern city of Benghazi and their station was later set on fire in a possible act of revenge for the killing, police sources said on Wednesday.
The army deployed additional forces to Benghazi after a car loaded with explosives blew up near a hospital on Monday, killing three people.

May 13, 2013: Nine people were killed and 17 injured when a car bomb exploded hear a hospital in Benghazi, Libya. (FoxNews.com)
The Tripoli-based Interior Minister Ashour Shwayel said in an interview with Libya’s al-Ahrar TV network that there were only two or three deaths from the deadly blast. Meanwhile, Benghazi police chief Tarek al-Kharaz said at least 13 people were killed and 41 wounded.

In recent days both the U.S. embassy and British embassy in Libya have removed non-essential staff from their embassies.
A specialized Marine unit based in Moron, Spain, is in the process of being repositioned closer to Libya; and in Stuttgart, Germany, a special operations force assigned to AFRICOM has been placed on heightened alert.

Diplomats are warning of growing Islamist violence against western targets in Libya as blowback from the war in Mali, following last week’s attack on the French embassy in Tripoli.
The bomb blast that wrecked much of the embassy is seen as a reprisal by Libyan militants for the decision by Paris the day before to extend its military mission against fellow jihadists in Mali.

Three women who were part of an aid convoy passing through Libya on the way to Gaza have been sexually assaulted in Benghazi, after a group of five British nationals were briefly kidnapped.
The three women, two of whom are sisters, were part of a large aid convoy travelling to the Gaza Strip. It is thought that they were part of a group of five people who were briefly kidnapped near Benghazi in the early hours of Tuesday and they were released some hours later. The group is currently safe in the Turkish consul in Benghazi and is expected to return to the UK.
