At age 11, Ghulam was married off to 40-year-old Jaiz in a rural Afghan village, making her only one of more than 10 million young girls who are being forced to wed men old enough to be their fathers or grandfather every year.

In an effort to start a global conversation about the devastating effects of early marriages, which are currently practiced in more than 50 developing countries, the United Nations designated October 11 as International Day of the Girl Child this year.

To mark the occasion and draw attention to the problem of child brides, photojournalist Stephanie Sinclair teamed up with National Geographic to create  a series of heart-breaking photos depicting girls as young as five years old being married off to middle-aged men in countries like India, Yemen and Ethiopia.

Man sought in attempted abduction of 12-year-old girl

Police are searching for suspects after a man allegedly attempted to abduct a 12-year-old girl outside an East York convenience store.

The girl had left home at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police said, heading to a store near Sammon Ave. and Greenwood Ave.

On the way, she passed two men in a parked white van. One of the men then left the van and allegedly grabbed the girl’s arm, police said. She was able to escape and the man fled the scene.

The man is described as brown, about 30, 5’8”, with green eyes, white hair and a long white beard. He was wearing a taqiyah cap and robe at the time, police said.

The van has rust above the rear door hinges and wheels.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them

UPDATE: Man accused of sexual activity with child is named

gen_wycombemagsAn unemployed 25-year-old has been accused of involvement in an alleged child sex ring.

Balel Ahmed, of Suffolk Road, Maidenhead, appeared before High Wycombe magistrates’ today charged with conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child and sexual activity with a child.

He was arrestedas part of Operation Bullfinch – an investigation into grooming, child rape and trafficking involving more than 20 girls aged between 11 and 16 in Oxford.

Thames Valley Police launched the operation in March, executing 14 warrants.

Bullfinch is the result of a joint probe by police and Oxfordshire County Council’s children, education and families department.

Ahmed, who has short dark hair and a beard and was dressed in a black T-shirt and tracksuit trousers, waved to his brother-in-law and dad as he walked into the dock.

The stocky former telesales worker, who is now out of work, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address.

He sat with his arms crossed for much of the hearing.

Prosecutor Peter Bird said the offences had taken place between January 10, 2010, and January 9, 2012.

Ahmed was remanded in custody.

He will appear at either The Old Bailey in London or Aylesbury Crown Court on Friday, August 3.

Ahmed, who grew up in Maidenhead, is the cousin of co-defendant Zeshan Ahmed, 26, of Palmer Road, Headington, Oxford, who has already been charged with 10 counts of sexual activity with a child as part of Bullfinch.

The ringleader of a gang of men who groomed vulnerable girls for sex has today also been jailed for 22 years for a ‘campaign of rape’ against a different child in his own community.

Shabir Ahmed, 59, led an exploitation ring of nine men who were all imprisoned earlier this year after they abused many young girls in the Rochdale and Oldham areas.

He was jailed for 19 years in May following an 11-week trial at Liverpool Crown Court relating to their violent abuse.

And today he can be named as he received another prison term – to run concurrently – after he was also convicted in June of 30 counts of child rape in his own area.

His identity was kept secret to allow him a fair trial.

A jury heard he raped and sexually abused the innocent youngster over many years and treated her as a ‘possession’ whom he used for his own sexual gratification.

Ahmed, of Oldham, will in effect serve an additional three years to the sentence imposed at Liverpool Crown Court.

Sentencing him at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, Judge Mushtaq Khokhar was forced to removed Ahmed from the dock before he passed sentence as he was persistently interrupted by the defendant.

Before his ejection, Ahmed shouted: ‘It’s all lies. It’s all concocted by the police.’

He then looked over at the Press bench and snarled: ‘What are you looking at?’

The court heard that Ahmed remained ‘in denial’ of his guilt of the repeated rapes of his victim for more than a decade.

As reported by the Iranian Christian news service Mohabat News, the Iranian Majles (Parliament) is slated to ensure civil law aligns correctly with sharia in regards to child brides.

The Majles Legal Affairs Committee has released a press statement stating that the current civil law, a hangover from the pre-revolutionary days under the Shah, in regards to the legal age of marriage for girls under the age of ten is to be considered “un-Islamic and illegal.”

Action to tackle child sexual exploitation will be announced this week after No?10 was shocked by ‘heartbreaking’ stories of abuse.

The move follows the conviction of nine Asian men for systematically raping and abusing underage girls in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, and claims by a Government expert that abuse was taking place ‘all over the country’.

On Tuesday, Ministers will launch an urgent review of the quality of care provided in children’s homes – which were at the heart of the Rochdale scandal –  and publish a progress report on an ‘action plan’ designed to tackle child exploitation.

In May, nine men were jailed for a total of 77 years after a court heard that they had plied girls as young as 13 with drink and drugs before carrying out acts of abuse.

Many of the girls, who all came from deprived family backgrounds, had been in the care of the local authority.

Man hunted for sex attack on 11-year-old girl in Blackburn street

A MAN who ran up to an 11-year-old girl in Blackburn, pulled down her trousers and sexually assaulted her is being hunted by police.

Detectives are appealing for information after the youngster was attacked at 9pm last night as she waited at a pedestrian crossing.

The incident happened on the corner of Infirmary Street and Bolton Road.

The man then ran away past the Lockside Tavern pub and possibly onto the canal tow path.

DS Mark Saunders said: “This is a serious offence against a young girl in a very public place and we need people’s help to catch the man responsible.

 “I’d urge anybody that recognises this man’s description or with any information that could assist with our investigation to come forward.”

The man is described as Asian, in his 30s and around 5 ft. 7inches tall.

He had dark short shaved hair with a long ‘pointy’ dark full faced beard down past his chin.

He was wearing a blue Adidas short sleeved top, with white signs on the front and back, plain tracksuit bottoms and blue Nike trainers.

Anyone with any information should call Lancashire Police on 101.

The ringleader of a gang of Asian men who groomed young white girls for sex can finally be unmasked after he was found guilty of 30 child rape charges.

Shabir Ahmed, 59, led a child sex exploitation ring of nine men who targeted vulnerable young girls in the Rochdale and Oldham areas of Greater Manchester.

He was jailed for 19 years last month following an 11-week trial at Liverpool Crown Court.

But Ahmed – known to his victims by the nickname ‘Daddy’ – could not be named as he was awaiting trial on separate child rape charges.

Today he was convicted of 30 charges of rape by a jury at Manchester Crown Court and Judge Mushtaq Khokhar lifted reporting restrictions, which means he can be identified for the first time.

The court heard that he raped and sexually abused a young Asian girl over many years.

He treated her as a ‘possession’ which he used for his own sexual gratification, the court was told.

Ahmed, formerly of Oldham, wearing a black Lonsdale tracksuit top, smirked as the jury returned the unanimous verdicts.

Judge Gerald Clifton, who sentenced Ahmed in Liverpool, said the gang treated their victims ‘as though they were worthless and beyond any respect’.

Rochdale grooming: More child sex arrests

A second sexual grooming case has been uncovered in Rochdale, it has been reported.

Several men have been arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing a teenage girl over a a six-year period, the Manchester Evening News has reported.

It follows the conviction of nine men from Rochdale and Oldham who were jailed for running a child sexual exploitation ring.

The men had targeted vulnerable girls as young as 13.

During the trial, five girls gave evidence, but police believe there may have been up to 47 victims.

Chief Constable of Greater Manchester, Peter Fahy, said he hoped more victims of sexual abuse would come forward after the men were sentenced.

But he said the vulnerability of the witnesses made it difficult to bring the cases to court, describing the girls as “damaged individuals”.

Police said the latest arrests were not related to the case that concluded with the nine men being jailed from four to 19 years.

They had been found guilty of offences including rape and conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child.

1. Calling Muslim gangs motivated by Islam and their actions often encouraged in mosques as ‘Asian’

2. Referring to pedophile gang rape as ‘grooming’ as if it was no worse than taking your daughter to the salon as opposed to forcing drugs on her and making her sleep with 20 strange men a night all of whom think she is garbage and who are paying someone else for the privilege. By calling it “grooming” we are complicit.

Nine Asian men were today found guilty of grooming and passing round vulnerable white schoolgirls aged between 13 and 15 for sex after plying them with alcohol and drugs.

Five girls were ‘shared’ by Kabeer Hassan, Abdul Aziz, Abdul Rauf, Mohammed Sajid, Adil Khan, Abdul Qayyum, Mohammed Amin, Hamid Safi and a 59-year-old man who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The ten-week trial was told that the men – who are all from Pakistan, some from the same village, apart from Safi who is from Afghanistan – groomed the teenage girls because they were vulnerable and from broken homes,

Today the leader of the Ramadhan Foundation that on-street grooming ‘is a significant problem for the British Pakistani community’.

Father sells 12-year-old daughter in Antalya: report

n 12773 4A father in the southern Antalya province allegedly sold his pre-teen daughter after signing a contract with a businessmen 40 years her elder, daily Hürriyet reported today.

The father received 5,000 Turkish Liras after signing the contract which stated clearly that he had sold his daughter and was paid the money “in advance.” The contract also read that both the father and the daughter consented to the transaction.

The scandal was revealed when the daughter informed her teacher at school that she had been taken to a hotel and raped by the man who had “bought” her from her father. The teacher immediately passed the information onto local police. A judicial case, however, did not begin until yesterday because police had been unable to locate the businessman for six years.

A takeaway owner who allegedly ran a brothel above his restaurant hounded girls as young as 12 to become prostitutes and told one of his child victims that ‘age is just a number’.

Azad Miah, 44, branded the  vulnerable girls ‘fresh meat’ and harassed them over weeks and months before offering to give them drugs, alcohol or money in return for sex, a court heard.

Miah targeted the girls in ‘a cold, clinical, calculated exploitation of the desperate and therefore vulnerable’, Carlisle Crown Court was told.

Tim Evans, prosecuting, said: ‘Most worryingly, he would stalk some of them, following them home in particular.’

One of the girls, who was just 14 at the time and addicted to heroin, was paid £100 for sex with him, it is claimed.

The girl, now 21, told detectives she had sex with Miah ‘hundreds of times’.
