This is how freedom solves the burka problem

Paris Opera House Expels Woman for Wearing Niqab after Cast Refuses to Perform La Traviata

When you let government solve a problem they often just create 3 more so you look back nostalgically at the days when you just had that problem to solve, which, in a macabre way, is kind of solving the problem in that it makes you wistful for such a simple one. Here is how actual people, when given choices, solve them. Congratulations to the French Opera company for this. It was a brave and powerful, and let us all hope precedent setting move.

A Muslim woman wearing a niqab has been forced to leave a theatre in France after the cast refused to perform in protest against her attire.

The niqab is a traditional Muslim garment which covers the head and chest, with the exception of the eyes. It is illegal in France.

The incident occurred during the performance of La Traviata at Opera Bastille in Paris, the opera house’s deputy director Jean-Philippe Thiellay told AFP.

The episode is believed to have happened on 3 October. However, French media did not report it until Sunday [19 October].

The woman, from the Gulf State, was visiting France with her companion. She was asked to remove the veil or leave the theatre as “performers said they didn’t want to sing,” Thiellay explained.

The BBC plans to run another burka scam.

To be perfectly fair it is quite possible that Kate Mead, the freelance journalist who is doing this piece for the BBC, may well be sincere and may well not understand this the same way. Its also possible that she is not setting up her social experiment the way I suspect she is. But as pretty much all the other similar articles I have read are designed to deliver the same results I figure it is probably safe to at least speculate that this BBC repetition of it will likely be set up the same, will yield the same results and for the same reasons.

Below, the contents of an email forwarded to me by someone who received it directly from Ms. Mead.

Subject: Documentary

Dear Sir or Madam

I came across your blog while researching for information about a documentary I am developing for BBC Three and I wonder whether you can help. We are in the second stage of our development for this one-off programme which will look at the Burka and whether it should be banned in the UK.

We are currently looking for young men (18-35) to take part in this project who have strong views either in favour of a ban or opposing it. The idea is that they will journey around the country speaking to various women about their experiences – positive and negative – and work with a Muslim social worker who encourages men to experiment with the experience by wearing a Burka themselves for a few days.It is meant to be an accessible look at the issue of Burkas in the UK for a young audience and we hope that our contributors will go on a journey of discovery that might change or intensify their feelings.

As we are looking for potential contributors throughout the UK, we would be really keen to hear from anyone articulate, passionate about the subject and willing to explore the issue directly. I thought that one or several of your writers might be interested in this and would welcome hearing from them. Please do forward my details and invite them to get in touch. I would be most grateful for any help you can give.

We are currently doing screen tests to take back to the channel ahead of commission. This would take about half an hour and we can travel to where they live or pay expenses.

I hope to hear from you soon and thanks in advance.

Kind regards

—

The first problem of course is that it is a setup for tyranny either way. The question is not whether or not to ban a style of clothing. One does not guarantee personal freedom by draconian laws on women’s fashion, even if this is more than just  matter of women’s fashion. The solution to the burka problem is giving back people the freedom to discriminate for their own interests and for society to discriminate based on what is in the public interest.

This translates to private store owners having the right to refuse admission to people who are wearing a disguise whether that disguise is a Nixon mask, a pig’s head or a burka and in the public sector, to refuse admittance to people wearing a disguise in public transport, in public buildings and so on. This is more than reasonable, it is actually necessary. While this looks like a nudge nudge style banning of the burka it is not. If women want to wear fundamentalist islamic garb good. Then let them. That way we can know who they are, as the degree of threat they represent to liberal democracy is directly proportional to the degree of religiosity they display. But wearing a disguise in public should be illegal and in many cases already is, and exceptions are made for muslims. So once again, the real solution is not a new law, but to stop making exceptions for the existing ones. Just try and walk into a bank with a motorcycle helmet and a tinted visor and see how long you stay in line.

Now on to what I suspect is a public sympathy scam for the BBC:

Imagine you took a class of grade 7 kids who had not learned any 20th century history at all, and not even having even heard of, let alone played Wolfenstein 3D, had no idea who the Nazis were. Now tell them that you were doing an experiment to show them how racist people are towards certain groups and you were going to dress them up as members of a group and they are to report how they are treated over a week of wearing these costumes so they could understand it from the minority’s point of view.

Now imagine you see all kinds of 12 year olds walking downtown in Waffen SS uniforms heiling and goose stepping with total absence of conscience about what it is they represent.  How do you think they will adjust their sympathies? Frankly I am surprised the Neo-Nazis haven’t thought of this yet. I suppose they don’t have enough control over schools or the media to get away with it.

Of the several similar experiments of this nature I have seen, this is how it generally works out. The people wear a burka, are treated in a somewhat cold and occasionally even hostile manner, and then the subject develops empathy towards the wearers of the burka, even as the kids would almost certainly feel that racist co-residents of their city have an irrational hatred of Nazis just because they wear a different kind of suit and hat.

It should be normal to show contempt to burka wearers when they expect to interact with the public 100% on their own terms, where they are invulnerable to you because you cannot tell who they are as well as that the burka is the uniform of a culture and legal system utterly bent on the destruction of our entire being and history.

Personally it shocks me that people can walk around in a burka and not be treated exactly as people wearing Nazi uniforms, the white sheets of the KKK or a full on Mao suit should be treated in a public street, which is with scorn and contempt and most importantly, defiance. And why? Because ethically, politically, and in outcome, they all represent pretty much exactly the same thing to freedom loving and classically liberal people.

France: ‘Burka ban’ confirmed by ECHR

In October 2010, French government passed a bill prohibiting the concealment of one’s face in public places. The law, commonly known as ‘burka ban’ led a Muslim woman to file a lawsuit at the European Court for Human Rights (ECHR), as she felt discriminated against. The French national, who was born in 1990 and lives in France, preferred to remain unnamed. As a devout Muslim and in her submissions she said that she wore the burka and niqab (full-body covering) in accordance with her religious faith, culture and personal convictions.

Today, the ECHR confirmed that the French ‘burka ban’ is in line with the European Convention:

“In today’s Grand Chamber judgment in the case of S.A.S. v. France (application no. 43835/11), which is final1, the European Court of Human Rights held, by a majority2, that there had been no violation of Article 8 (right to respect for private and family life) of the European Convention on Human Rights, and no violation of Article 9 (right to respect for freedom of thought, conscience and religion); unanimously, that there had been no violation of Article 14 (prohibition of discrimination) of the European Convention combined with Articles 8 or 9. […] The Court emphasised that respect for the conditions of “living together” was a legitimate aim for the measure at issue and that, particularly as the State had a lot of room for manoeuvre (“a wide margin of appreciation”) as regards this general policy question on which there were significant differences of opinion, the ban imposed by the Law of 11 October 2010 did not breach the Convention.”

1 Grand Chamber judgments are final. All final judgments are transmitted to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe for supervision of their execution.
2 Two of the 17 judges expressed a joint dissenting opinion: Angelika Nu?berger (Germany) and Helena Jäderblom (Sweden).

Quebec is now hearing a landmark and critical lawsuit, which may have freedom-of-speech implications for us all.

First let me thank Susan Victoria for translating this article, as well as much material for us from the current hearings in Quebec on the secular values charter.

Below is a translation of an article on a lawsuit being brought against a man in Quebec who took a picture of a woman in a full islamic face covering. The man has already, as I understand it, fled Canada because of it.

This is a serious and important case and issue with consequences for us all. Should the case be decided against freedom of expression etc. it is a safe bet that this precedent will be used in other Western nations trying to come to terms with the same problem because of the same people.

Niqab in Québec city – The true intent of a lawsuit

The reporter of Les immigrants de la Capitale only wanted to capture the ‘culture clash’ and the public’s ‘bewilderment’ upon suddenly seeing a nikab.

(Québec City) A trivial matter. A veiled woman in a public area.
No incident occurred and no words were exchanged.
Had there not been a photo published along with a few lines,
there would not have been a story.
The monthly newspaper published a clean and factual account, devoid of hate, contempt and intolerance. At first glance, no harm is done.

805547-poursuite-ete-deposee-contre-journal

However, publication of the photo resulted in a $150,000 lawsuit against Les immigrants de la Capitale. The case will be heard on June 5th.

The photo is the problem.  A woman wearing a nikab accompanied by a bearded man in a T-Shirt and cap.  Her spouse.

Except for close relatives, it would seem almost impossible to identify the couple.  This issue will be decided by the Court.

However, the fundamental question raised is : Was it a matter of public interest to publish this photo? Continue Reading →

Daycare worker photo adds fuel to fire of Quebec Charter debate

H/T M

Global:

MONTREAL – A photo showing two daycare workers walking with children in their care in Montreal has gone viral in Quebec – all because of what the women were wearing.

The picture was allegedly snapped the afternoon of Friday, November 15, 2013 in the borough of Verdun.

After being posted on Facebook, it was shared thousands of times on social media, creating a storm of criticism. […]

(Above is the Global video with some of my observations built in. Frankly it still amazes me how nearly everyone in the media misses the point. The uniform is a declaration of an ideology that is fully unacceptable to the vast majority of Canadians if they were honest with themselves as to the nature of that ideology.)

Father and son swarmed by motorcycle gang on highway.

This is another good example of why you should not be able to cover your faces when in public. The police are having difficulty finding these wretched low-life thugs due to tinted visors. I don’t have much info on this but I am told it is widely represented on US news. It is also a good reason for the 2nd amendment.

BBC on the new UK debate on covering ones face in public.

The rule should always be that you turn a book into a movie and never the other way around. So I tried to avoid putting as much text as I actually wanted to in this video. So I’ll put it here instead.

The fact is, ‘multiculturalism’ or ‘multi-faith’ and whatever other euphemisms are commonly used, is an oxymoron. In some ways, they are like a grandfather paradox in time travel discussions. They simply cannot be. You cannot have more than one set of basic values in operation at one time in one area for disparate sets of people. This leads to an intolerable situation which sooner or later leads to the break down of a civilization or society, if for no other reason than because one loses all respect for the authority of the state, as you know that you are selected for unfair treatment compared to members of another group.

In sharia societies, they encode the idea that non-muslims are second class citizens. So at it is actually more sustainable than what we are doing when we pretend that all people are equal before the law, and yet are not.

Either you can wear a disguise in public or you cannot. But when you allow one group to do so, and especially for irrational reasons like, in the case of Islam, religion who’s regulations are arbitrary and even occasionally somewhat whimsical, holding only one thing in common.

What allows them the advantage.

Montreal ‘multi-faith’ march organized by muslim who is suing the Canadian govt for $25m. and was on security cert.

The march was also planned for the most sacred day of the Jewish calendar. So it seems obvious who was not wanted. Jewish groups however seemed to have done a little due-dillegence this time however and knowing who organized the demonstration, decided it was not a good association. More on that later.

Quebec and the proposed charter for secularism in Government.

Today the contents of the proposed new law for Quebec was released. The reactions have been varied with the strongest opposition coming from Canada’s federal minister of immigration, a man who has let in more Muslims to Canada than any and possibly all governments before him who stridently opposed it claiming that all religious values, customs and traditions are honored in Canada, or something similar to that.

More telling are the comments under the various articles published in national or large regional newspapers about this issue. It seems that a large majority of those that commented actually get the issue and most feel that every other benign religious group is taking the heat for Islam, which is transparently the real problem here.

I will post a few links to major dailies on this story but its worth scanning the comments under the articles as much as the articles themselves. I would not be at all surprised if Canada starts going the way of the UK and starts to force newspapers to close certain ‘sensitive’ stories to comments as it exposes and encourages Canadians who have figured out what Islam is all about and wish to express their personal disgust with it.

The National Post:

The Globe and Mail:

Toronto Sun:

There will be a lot more soon. I am looking for a video from Charles Adler tonight on SUN who did a great interview (I am told) with a Quebec radio host, who spelled it out. That this really about wanting to ban face coverings. So all religions have to suffer.

Makes me wonder though. If Nazis were a problem in Quebec would they ban all political parties? If communists were destroying and undermining everything, would they ban all symbols and references to economic systems? I highly doubt it. So what is so damn special about religion? The ones that do not contradict the law you allow. The ones that do, you stomp on. It should be simple.

Quebec takes the gutless, ‘kindergarten’ approach to Islam and the West

Quebec seems to be following France’s policies on dealing with the conspicuous uniform of Islamic manifest destiny now more and more common on Western streets. And while I applaud pretty much any effort that our politically-correct and neutered ‘representatives’ make at fighting the values of islam and sharia norms that increasingly are replacing hard-won freedoms, some of them are downright stupid, childish and perhaps worse, actually as anathema to a free and democratic society as islam itself.

Here are three articles from todays papers courtesy of Grace.

1. The SUN: Quebec’s proposed ban of religious symbols in public buildings provokes defiant reaction

2. National Post: ‘Like Putin’s Russia’: Parti Quebecois’ ‘unthinkable plan’ to ban religious symbols in public sector

3. Dan Delmar: PQ leaders know their secularism plan is illegal. They just don’t care

A blanket ban on all religious symbols is a lot like dealing with motorcycle noise by banning all musical instruments. Or trying to get rid of elderly people by closing all the Swiss Chalet’s. Think of it this way. If it was 1938 and lots of people started realizing that Nazis are a huge freaking problem and if not dealt with could result in millions of deaths and trillions in damage and so authorities decided to ban all political symbols thinking the problem of course, is politics. The problem was not politics or political parties, it was just one of them.

Like France, this half measure is an attempt to solve a problem without naming it. Fear of admitting that Islam is the problem and dealing head on with it has led several states now to actually interfere with good people’s genuine rights who at worst are no threat to the state and at best are massively net contributors to it in many ways. Like the Kindergarten teacher who punishes all the children because one of them was chewing gum in class, governments are now going to punish members of religious groups who have never meant the state or its citizens any harm, just to deal with an aggressive and dangerous Islam. And does anyone think that after the riots that ensued after muslim women were asked to comply with the laws in France that any cop will enforce them? How about Australia after the Carnita Mathews debacle?

How this will end up is extremely predictable. Everyone who has tried this blanket solution ends up with the same result. You anger and disappoint all sorts of great people and then muslims find some sort of work around so they end up being the only ones who actually do get to display their symbols. This happened in Belgium when the state banned conspicuous religious gear in government buildings and at the end of the day it was decided that it was discriminatory to Muslims because it meant they could no longer work in them so they made an exception to the law that was created to deal with them.

A case could be made that the exact same thing happened at airports world wide, all because no one has the raw guts to come out and talk about the problem. And it isn’t religion. It is Islam. And one doesn’t even have to ban that. Just stop making exceptions for Muslims with respect to common, already existing laws. No covering your face for example or wearing a disguise in public. This means you Aisha. No public speaking about killing members of an identifiable group. This means you imam and your constant calls to genocide for Jews and homosexuals etc. We don’t need new laws to start to deal with this problem we just need to stop making exceptions for existing ones to suit muslims.

This Quebec plan will backfire mark my words. There will be just as many burkas and face covered haters of us all in important government positions displaying their contempt for us all openly, but all the people who actually generate wealth and build things and cooperate with us all to make life good will have to make difficult choices.

It will be good for Ontario though. I welcome all the Christians, Jews, Sikhs, Hindus and so on who will be flooding this way in the near future.
