The FBI “most wanted” mugshot shows a tough, swarthy figure, his hair in a jailbird crew-cut. The $10 million price on his head, meanwhile, suggests that whoever released him from US custody four years ago may now be regretting it.

WTF just happened in Iraq exactly?

Below is a series of links to articles and opinions about a rather small band of primitives that managed to take control of a large area that was, according to local legend, being protected by entire trained army divisions. These have been sent in by a wide variety of people, Richard, M, ST, Don L, Oz-Rita and others who have in common that something is rather fishy in the state of Iraq.

1. Iraq army capitulates to Isis militants in four cities

The extent of the Iraqi army’s defeat at the hands of militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (Isis) became clear on Wednesday when officials in Baghdad conceded that insurgents had stripped the main army base in the northern city of Mosul of weapons, released hundreds of prisoners from the city’s jails and may have seized up to $480m in banknotes from the city’s banks.

BAGHDAD — Sunni militants consolidated and extended their control over northern Iraq on Wednesday, seizing Tikrit, the hometown of Saddam Hussein, threatening the strategic oil refining town of Baiji and pushing south toward Baghdad, their ultimate target, Iraqi sources said.

8. Iraq Isis Crisis: Medieval Sharia Law Imposed on Millions in Nineveh Province

The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Shams (Isis) has imposed a strict set of Sharia laws on the citizens of Nineveh province just days after capturing the provincial capital of Mosul.

In a document circulating on social media attributed to the group, Isis warned tribal leaders and sheikhs not to “work with [the Iraqi] government and be traitors” while proclaiming that women should only go outside if absolutely necessary.

(There is a great deal more material available that I need to go through before posting. But things appear to be moving fast. Makes one wonder if the media circus around the Bergdahl Swap wasn’t to distract from this rather tectonic level geopolitical event, doesn’t it? Grab yourselves a latte and some extra ammunition. Its gonna be a long summer for those who survive it.)

Iraqi Suicide Bombers Hit Baghdad Mosque, Kill 34

ABC News:

By SAMEER N. YACOUB Associated Press

BAGHDAD June 18, 2013 (AP)
Two suicide bombers targeted a Shiite mosque in Baghdad on Tuesday, one blowing himself up at a nearby checkpoint while the other slipped inside during prayers. The blasts killed 34 people, Iraqi officials said.

The coordinated bombings were the latest in a string of attacks to hit Iraq, reviving fears the country is headed back toward the widespread sectarian bloodshed that pushed it to the brink of civil war in 2006 and 2007.

Two police officers said the first bomber detonated his explosives at a security checkpoint near the mosque in Baghdad’s northern Qahira neighborhood in an apparent attempt to distract the authorities. The area is a middle-class, Shiite-majority neighborhood.

Caution: The video below appears to be of the mosque shortly after the bomb where jubilant muslims, excited to a state of religious frenzy by the stench of fresh death, all shout allahu ackbar to the body parts on the carpet.

AFP – Gunmen armed with silenced weapons shot dead 12 people at alcohol shops in the Iraqi capital on Tuesday, while four people died in other attacks, security and medical officials said.

The gunmen, who were travelling in four vehicles, restrained federal policemen at a checkpoint in the Zayouna area of Baghdad, an interior ministry official said.

They then shot dead 12 people in multiple adjoining alcohol shops nearby, the ministry official said.

A medical official confirmed the toll.

With alcohol forbidden by Islam, Baghdad liquor stores are an attractive target for fundamentalist groups, made more so because they are often staffed by religious minorities.

Iraq Said to Halt Al Jazeera’s License, Closes Jordanian Border

By Jeanna Smialek & Zaid Sabah – Apr 28, 2013 5:33 PM ET

Iraq has suspended the licenses of Al Jazeera and nine other television channels for allegedly promoting violence and sectarianism, Al Jazeera reported, citing a senior official at the country’s media watchdog.

“We took a decision to suspend the license of some satellite channels that adopted language encouraging violence and sectarianism,” Mujahid Abu al-Hail of the Communications and Media Commission said yesterday, according to Al Jazeera.

In another sign that unrest is gripping the nation, the Iraqi embassy in Amman informed the Jordanian interior ministry that Iraq will close borders with Jordan tomorrow for 48 hours, citing domestic issues, Jordan’s state-run news service Petra said. The report cited a statement issued by the interior ministry.

Guess where Syria’s chemical weapons originate

H/T Richard

WND:

Retired U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Paul Vallely says he has confirmation that Syrian forces have used chemical weapons against rebel forces and civilians, and those weapons are likely stockpiles received from Iraq prior to the U.S.-led invasion 10 years ago.

Vallely has met twice in the region with military commanders for the Free Syrian Army, which he describes as the largest and much more moderate faction among the rebels, which also include elements of al-Qaida and the Muslim Brotherhood. He also gets regular reports from a Canadian medical team. Vallely told WND that team is certain that a chlorine gas weapon was used in recent strikes.

“From what I received from the Canadian medical team who works out of Aleppo is that is was chlorine and that what you saw were the reactions on those videos that were put out within the last week,” Vallely said. “The chlorine, the choking, the skin, depending on the density of the chlorine will cause skin irritation. If it’s mixed with other types of gases too, then it could have an even more enhanced effect on the human body, not only breathing but on the skin.”

REPORT: IRAQ ‘INVITES’ IRAN TO SEIZE U.S. EMBASSY IN BAGHDAD

Democracy project in flames.

Daniel Pipes was right. The U.S. should have never tried to ‘nation build’ in Iraq after Operation Iraqi Freedom, instead, after hostilities had officially ended they should have withdrawn all troops to designated areas, and placed a more friendly-to-the-West leader in control, with the explicit promise to return if the political situation resorts to former ways.

Report: Iraq PM ‘Invites’ Iran to Seize US Embassy in Baghdad

Iraq allegedly has agreed to allow 50,000 Iranian Basij militia to help suppress riots against the government and seize the US embassy.

Iraq allegedly has agreed to allow 50,000 Iranian Basij militia troops into the country to help suppress riotsagainst the government and seize Arab and other foreign embassies, including that of the United States. The two leaders allegedly agreed to allow the Basij forces to attack and occupy the foreign embassies considered hostile to Iran in Baghdad, and to detain their staffs.

Iraq’s Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and Iranian military commander Qassaem Soleimani, head of Iran’s Al Qods Force, allegedly shook hands on the plan over the weekend at a meeting in Baghdad.  Pledging 50,000 Basij military troops to help al-Maliki put down the nationwide riots against his government, Soleimani was quoted as saying “the Iraqi Front is the last front to defend the security of Iran.”

The report, which appeared Saturday on the Voice of Iraq website and that of theNashwan News, apparently offered enough evidence to create concern among analysts in the United States. “Even if there is a slim chance that the report is true, it should be published immediately,” commented U.S.-based Middle East strategy expert Mark Langfan.

U.S. embassies have become an increasingly popular target for disgruntled Islamists who wish to whip up popular support, attempt to terrorize Western leaderships or terrorize a local population into submission, such as last year’s September 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya in which four American diplomats were killed — including U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens.

In 1979, Iranian radical Islamists seized the American Embassy in Tehran and took 52 hostages captive on November 4 to express their support of the Iranian Revolution. A U.S. attempt to rescue the hostages on April 24, 1980 ended in failure and the deaths of eight American soldiers, one Iranian civilian and the destruction of two U.S. aircraft. Three months later, Iraq invaded Iran, leading to negotiations between the U.S. and Iran for release of the hostages, brokered by Algeria. The hostages were not freed until January 1981.

Oped from Disabled Veteran: A little peace and closure.

A few days ago, a comment from Disabled Veteran  was made under this post. I quite liked it and asked him if he would flesh it out and make an post out of it. He did and here it is below.

Thank you DV and I wish you the very best wherever you go and whatever you do.

Eeyore.

Op Ed by Disabled Veteran

I wrote this piece in order to attempt to get a little bit of peace and closure. I have been a reader of this Blog along with many others in the Counter Jihad internet scene. This started as a comment but now I have been asked to turn it into an article. I am very honored to do this. It brings me a feeling like my beliefs, my sacrifices, and my constant pain are not totally in vain.

I was adopted by a wonderful blue collar couple at the age of 9 months. From what I know my birth parents were drug addicts and I was left at the Hospital. My adoptive parents who I will FOREVER consider my REAL Parents, have saved my life many times. My father dropped out of school in the 1950’s in 8th grade to help his family. Growing up my parents gave me a good life, but I did have traits from those birth parents. I was bullied in school like many are today. My solution at 9 years old was to punch my bully in the face in front of the entire class. Little did I know being an angry and dumb kid that turned me into the “bad kid”. I was never bullied again though, but I paid an incredible price for it.

Thank goodness somewhere in my family tree there was some intelligence. I was lucky enough to be a smart kid but angry. Fast Forward to my 18th birthday. I got drunk on a boat at a party and talked to this old man who told me all sorts of war stories about the military and Vietnam. Now with my experience I know he was a liar, a Stolen Valor scumbag, but at 18 his stories led me to show up at the Marine recruiters office Monday morning. He learned I had a police record for fighting a mile long and told me ‘no go’.

The Sailor in the Navy office grabbed me in the parking lot, told me a ton of lies, went to court to get my Juvi record expunged, and got me to sign my life away for 6 years.

I knew nothing about the military. I was a real cherry, scared of boot camp and all. 11 weeks later at Great Lakes IL I graduated as Honor Recruit, Ship 111, Division 444. I watched as tears of pride came down my Fathers eye, a man I constantly let down. He told me on his deathbed it was the proudest day of his life. While boot camp was easy, making my Father cry with pride was a crowning achievement of my life!

I went through some schools, and went to the Green Side Navy. That is Sailors who work in Marine Corps Commands. From then on I was finally home. I belonged. I went 100mph through the next 10 years, with the end goal to become a Master Chief. Living so fast one hardly has safety on your mind so I got hurt a lot. I broke bones, recovered and got hurt again and again. I was happy, life meant something. On 9/11 while terrible, to many of us or at least to me at the time it meant War, and it meant payback for 3000+ Americans, and if it meant my life well, that’s how it goes. Continue Reading →

Shiite ayatollah launches fatwa: Iraqi Christians, conversion to Islam or death

Brought to you by the religion of peace of course..

Asia News:

by Joseph Mahmoud
From an Egyptian TV Jihad leader Ahmad Al Baghdadi Al Hassani speaks of Christians as polytheists and friends of the Zionists. Sources tell AsiaNews: a grave fact, but the government is attentive to these claims. Card Sandri reconsecrates the cathedral scene of the massacre in October 2010. The tears, said the cardinal, “are seeds of communion and witness”.

Baghdad (AsiaNews) – An Advent of light and shadow for Iraq’s Christians, who are celebrating the reopening of the cathedral of Baghdad but at the same time subjected to new – and heavy – threats from a radical Shiite Muslim leader. From studies of a television broadcaster based in Egypt, an Iraqi Ayatollah launches a fatwa against the religious minority on the eve of Christmas: “Conversion to Islam or death.” However, strength of faith overcomes the fear of violence as witnessed by celebrations for the “rebirth” of the Syrian Catholic cathedral in the capital, the scene of a bloody attack at the end of October 2010 (see AsiaNews 31/10/2010 Al Qaeda attack on Baghdad church ends in massacre)

In an interview last December 13 on Egyptian television Al Baghdadia, the Shiite ayatollah Ahmad Al Hassani Al Baghdadi issued a fatwa against Christians in Iraq. Labeling them as “polytheists” and “friends of the Zionists”, the extremist leader stressed that they must choose “or Islam or death,” while “their women and girls may legitimately be regarded wives of Muslims.” Al Baghdadi is known for his “jihad” positions and for attacking Americans in the past during their presence in the country, and today he lives in Syria, supporting the armed opposition.
