Some excellent political theater in Montreal.

I love Quebec culture. No where else in the ROC (rest of Canada) would anyone have the raw guts to do this.

While I have my issues with Quebec politics the people and culture of Quebec are fantastic in so many ways. For one thing, at least they are willing to fight to preserve their own identity. Something the rest of the Western world could learn from.

In the video below, some anti-anti-Israel activists, or put another way, pro-Israel activists using the theatrical tactic of pretending to be Muslim women complaining about how Israel allows women rights, gay people rights and allows political disagreement with the state, pass out flyers and and wave signs and mock, I think it’s called, ‘ululating’, a sound Muslim women make under some circumstances, while really trying to show how these values are good ones and the enemies of Israel should be looked at carefully.

This video was shot and uploaded to youtube initially by what sounds like a Muslim, who I believe falsely accused these people of assaulting him, although there is no evidence of that on his video, and ‘Bear’ translated what little French there was spoken as well as the signs and I re-uploaded it with his invective removed. It certainly is a fun watch even if it was taken by someone who most certainly did not like what they were doing.

BREAKING: Homeland Security Adviser Allegedly Leaked Intel to Attack Rick Perry

This might be worth clicking over to Pajamas Media and checking out. First couple of paragraphs below:

From Pajamas Media

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are asking questions following a report that Department of Homeland Security Advisory Council member Mohamed Elibiary may have been given access to a sensitive database of state and local intelligence reports, and then allegedly shopped some of those materials to a media outlet. He allegedly used the documents to claim the department was promoting “Islamophobia” — claims that the media outlet ultimately rejected. They declined to do the story.

Earlier today, I received confirmation from a left-leaning media outlet that Elibiary had recently approached them asking to do a story attacking Texas DPS:

Yes, he approached us and gave us some reports marked FOUO [For Official Use Only] that he said showed a pattern of Islamophobia at the department. He emphasized that some of the regional fusion centers were shut down a few years ago after the ACLU complained that they were targeting Muslim civil rights groups and said that this was being directed by [Texas Gov.] Rick Perry.

Mr. Shafia called his daughters whores and exhorted the devil to “shit on their graves.”

Mohammad Shafia is charged with first degree murder

  Oct 25, 2011 – 7:54 PM ET | Last Updated: Oct 26, 2011 10:17 AM ET

KINGSTON, Ont. — Just after half his family was either allegedly murdered or at the least tragically dead in a bizarre accident, Mohammad Shafia was still looking for a deal.

“He was asking could he get a discount,” said Robert Miller, the manager of the Kingston East Motel where some of the Shafia clan – those who weren’t dead, that is — were then staying.

“’Can’t you give me a better price?’” Mr. Miller remembered him saying, and his own reply: “No.”

Mr. Miller was testifying Tuesday at the first-degree murder trial of the 58-year-old Mr. Shafia, his second wife Tooba Mohammad Yahya, 41, and their 21-year-old son Hamed. All are pleading not guilty. Continue Reading →

Use of Islamic law OK in civil case, judge rules

Published: October 25, 2011

A state appeals court has ruled that a Hillsborough County Circuit judge can consider Islamic law to decide a civil case between a mosque and its former trustees.

The decision by the 2nd District Court of Appeal in Lakeland to decline the appeal of the Islamic Education Center of Tampa sends the case back to Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Richard A. Nielsen. Nielsen’s decision in March to allow the case to proceed under “ecclesiastical Islamic law” drew national attention when the ruling was criticized by conservative bloggers.

The case has its roots in 2002, when the mosque ousted four of its founding members; those founding members later sued the mosque. One of the main issues of dispute was who would be responsible for how to spend $2.5 million Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise had paid the mosque for 3.4 acres needed to widen Veterans Expressway.

When he made his March ruling, Nielsen said courts have ruled “that ecclesiastical law controls certain relations between members of a religious organization, whether a church, synagogue, temple or mosque.”

The uproar over the ruling went overboard, said Lee Segal, a Clearwater attorney representing the ousted trustees. He said the ruling follows established legal precedent and does not mean Nielsen is allowing Islamic law to trump U.S. law.

“When the parties agree (before the trial that) they are bound to Islamic law, they can be bound to Islamic law,” Segal said. “As long as what you are agreeing to doesn’t violate the constitution of the United States, you can apply any type of law.”

Though the issue of Islamic law has garnered attention, the legal fight over the lawsuit is complicated, with much of it revolving around the arbitration process.

On Monday, Paul Thanasides, the attorney for the mosque, filed a new motion to dismiss the case because of lack of jurisdiction.

Men dressed as women for radically different purposes.

Here are two stories of men dressing as women, both of which involves Islam but for radically different reasons.

First, From Jihad Watch:

Thailand: Jihadist gunmen dressed as women kill seven

Fighting like men isn’t often jihadists’ strong suit, anyway. Hence the preference in conflicts the world over for asymmetrical warfare and the targeting of civilians. “Seven dead in Thai south attacks,” from Agence France-Presse, October 24 (thanks to Twostellas):

NARATHIWAT, Thailand: Suspected Muslim insurgents have killed at least seven people in back-to-back shooting and bomb attacks in Thailand’s troubled south, police said Monday.

On Sunday evening an unknown number of gunmen dressed as women, travelling in three pick-up trucks, opened fire on a checkpoint in the main town of Narathiwat province killing two rangers.

Shortly afterwards a bomb exploded at a nearby supermarket, followed by a second bomb at another supermarket about 300 metres (yards) away, causing fires that spread through shophouses and took three hours to extinguish.

Police said they found two charred bodies of the male owner and a female teacher in the first shop, while a young boy and his parents were found dead in the second.

Another seven people suffered burns in the attacks, which happened within the space of half an hour — the latest in a series of increasingly brazen attacks by the shadowy militants.

Then, here in Montreal, we see some men dressed in Burkas to make a point about anti-Israel protests. These men however, are trying to save lives. Notice how one of the signs says that Israel is a refuge for gay Arabs from the rest of the Middle East. If I get a chance, I will try and redo this video with English subtitles later tonight. This perspective of this event was clearly filmed by someone hostile to their non-anti-Israel point of view. Easy to find in Montreal I’m afraid.

About 30 demonstrators who were upset by what they insisted were “anti-Semitic” sentiments at a Muslim conference protested outside the Islamic Centre of Canada in Mississauga on Sunday.

Holding Israeli flags, protesters charged that four Islamic speakers invited to the conference were spreading messages of homophobia and violence towards Jewish people.

“They made inciteful statements against Jews and others,” alleged Meir Weinstein, national director of the Jewish Defence League of Canada. “We don’t think they should be given a platform here in Canada. We consider their stance as they’d like to see Canada become an Islamic state to be dangerous.”

Some of the people scheduled to speak at the conference included Abdurraheem Green, Yusuf Chambers and Shaykh Hussain Yee. The only confirmed speaker was Hamza Andreas Tzortzis.

“Our position has always been to expose and confront these organizations and that’s what we have to do,” said Weinstein. Continue Reading →

KINGSTON, Ont. — It’s the Canadian Maple Leaf that flies high over the picturesque locks at Kingston Mills near this historic city, but on the night of June 30, 2009, it might just as well have been the black-red-and-green flag of Afghanistan, with its sacred line proclaiming the greatness of Allah.

What happened at the locks that night, Crown prosecutors alleged in Ontario Superior Court Thursday, was a so-called “honour killing,” the culmination of a violent misogynist Afghan culture that had been transplanted holus-bolus years earlier into the heart of central Canada.

Court Exibit

Geeti Shafia, 13

“May the devil s— on their graves,” Mohammad Shafia told his second wife, Tooba Mohammad Yahya, 20 days after the bodies of the couple’s three teenage daughters and Mr. Shafia’s first wife were recovered from a car in the water at the locks.

Found dead by drowning in a black Nissan Mr. Shafia had bought just eight days earlier – the suggestion implicit that he got it for that very purpose — were Rona Amir Mohammad, the barren wife who had been presented to the children and outsiders both as an “auntie,” and rebellious daughters Zainab, 19, Sahar, 17, and 13-year-old Geeti.

Charged with four counts each of first-degree murder are Mr. Shafia, Ms. Yahya and their oldest son Hamid, who was 18 at the time. All are pleading not guilty. Continue Reading →

Police uniforms include the hijab

Good article but I would remind the author that the British did not allow Sikh’s to wear the turban in its regular ranks. It created the ‘Indian Guard’ specifically to not change the uniform of the Beefeaters etc.

Toronto Sun

Just how far do we take reasonable accommodation in the police department?

 DAVID MENZIES, GUEST COLUMNIST

FIRST POSTED: | UPDATED:

Whether it’s worn by a police officer, hockey player, usher, or soldier, surely the ostensible reason for donning a uniform is to have, well, uniformity.

But things are changing in regard to uniforms at that ever-sensitive “service” formerly known as the Toronto police force.

Indeed, the police have announced they’re going to accommodate Muslim policewomen who want to wear the hijab on duty.

Some might hail such a move as another shining example of “reasonable accommodation”; others — count me among them — look upon this directive as another assault against Canadian traditions.

Yet again, a public institution appears to be bowing to the tyranny of political correctness — bending over backwards to accommodate certain individuals, some of whom are quite unaccommodating of western values.

The question arises: What’s driving this directive? Why is it important for the police to have hijab-wearing policewomen in the first place?

Contrary to widespread popular belief, the Qur’an doesn’t mandate Muslim women to wear the hijab.

In this regard, the apparel accommodation isn’t the same as allowing a Sikh to wear a turban.

(I’d also argue there’s an historical reason for permitting Sikhs to wear turbans, given that Sikh military brigades have long been an integral part of the British Empire.) If anything, the hijab is a political statement and a symbol of fundamentalism. Continue Reading →

Major Sharia banking firm goes bankrupt. Story goes unnoticed

Please click through for the whole story as only part of it is reproduced here. H/T Shab

From Huffington Post:

Posted: 10/17/11 12:11 PM ET

The leading promoter of Sharia banking in Canada, UM Financial Inc. has gone into receivership without much fanfare. None of the nation’s newspapers have bothered to report the development, despite the fact it could possibly affect hundreds of homeowners. Had it not been for a tweet by an affected Muslim homeowner looking for a lawyer, the story of UM Financial going broke would have escaped even the scant attention the news received on social media.

Tweeting under the username @UM_FinanceBROKE, the tweeter wrote:

“Sorry Toronto Muslim Homeowners, I have bad news. I just learned UM Financial is Bankrupt. I need a good Canadian lawyer”

The troubles at UM Financial did not come overnight. As far back as April 2007, the Toronto Star reported on the company’s liquidity problems. The Star wrote that Omar Kalair, the founder of UM Financial, “is working hard to maintain on-going sources of funding.” Kalair disclosed that the Credit Union Central of Ontario had extended an additional $50 million to the Sharia banking promoter, and “that will keep us going until the summer.” Apparently, this month the money ran out and UM folded tent.

The consequences of this bankruptcy may effect thousands of Muslim homeowners. Leading up to the bankruptcy, there were quiet rumblings of discontent in the community. One indignant Muslim homeowner wrote to the Toronto Star:

“In the name of Shariah-compliant mortgages they charge extra fees… After accepting and approving our application, they refused us financing just a week before the closing of our home, thus putting us into great trouble… This last-minute refusal made us get a mortgage from an alternate source at a higher interest rate and spend an extra $2,500 for moving costs and living in a hotel with the entire family for one week.”

What is Sharia Banking?

Most Canadians are aware how Premier Dalton McGuinty nixed the idea of introducing Sharia law into the Ontario Family Act and the subsequent failed attempt by John Tory’s Conservatives to fund Sharia-based private Islamic schools, but few are aware of how Sharia is being sneaked into our financial system.

While Sharia-style family law was essentially promoted by imams and the mosque establishment, Sharia-based banking is being promoted by well-heeled Muslim bankers and investment lawyers, who are driven not by teachings of the Prophet but the lure of profits.

The Globe and Mail reported in May 2007: “Several Canadian financial institutions are preparing Sharia-compliant mortgages, insurance, taxi licensing and investment funds to help serve the country’s fastest-growing part of the population.”

This push from Muslim banking executives working inside the corporate world has had some success. Most big Canadian institutions are treading carefully, and not all are jumping on board. The Globe reported that while the Royal Bank of Canada “quietly tested a Sharia finance product a few years ago and didn’t find enough market interest,” other Canadian banks, smelling easy pickings, are lining up to wear the Islamic mantle. Sources say Scotiabank and Toronto-Dominion Bank have been quietly considering whether to start offering Sharia-compliant products as part of the big banks’ strategy to reach out to what the newspaper referred to as a growing “immigrant population.”

This was a politically correct way to describe Muslim immigrants as I doubt very much if Hindu, Sikh, and Chinese “immigrant” Canadians are excited at the prospect of Sharia banking.

While Canada’s banks were salivating at the prospect of reaching this supposedly untapped niche market, it was UM (United Muslim) Financial Inc., a Muslim-owned financial institution with strong marketing and social links to many Islamist events in Canada that took the lead and lost.

So what are the origins Sharia banking, and why should Canadians be worried about its intrusion in our financial sector?

Origins of Sharia Banking

Islamic banking traces its roots to the 1920s, but did not start until the late 1970s, and owes much of its foundation to the Islamist doctrine of two people: Abul Ala Maududi of the Jamaat-e-Islami in Pakistan and Hassan al-Banna of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. While these two pillars of the Pan-Islamist movement propagated jihad and war against the West, they also recognized the role international financial institutions could play in carrying out their political objectives.
