Feinstein: Actions of Hamas ‘border on being an international war crime’

On Tuesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight,” Democratic Senate intelligence committee chairwoman Dianne Feinstein reaffirmed her support of Israel and came close to accusing Hamas of war crimes.

“I hope people see Hamas for what it is, and that is using their own people as human shields,” Feinstein said. “Putting these missiles and rockets in places right in the middle of residential areas, in homes and mosques and parks — you don’t do this. I mean, this borders on being an international war crime. Now the problem is, Hamas isn’t a member of either of the organizations — the Geneva Conventions or others that would hold this as a war crime. So, it’s a very difficult situation. Our solidarity has to be with Israel. This is a point where Israel has been under attack for a long period of time, and nothing has solved it.”

Feinstein went on to emphasize the importance of a two-state solution, and praised Palestine Liberation Organization head Mahmoud Abbas.

Blast on bus in heart of Tel Aviv

Loud blast heard near Kirya base in heart of Tel Aviv. Seventeen people injured; two sustain moderate to serious injuries, three sustain moderate injuries, the rest lightly wounded

A loud blast was reported on a bus in the Shaul Hamelech street in the heart of Tel Aviv near the Kirya base. Rescue forces reported of a mass casualty event. Defense sources said it was a terror attack.

Seventeen people were injured; two sustained moderate to serious injuries, three sustained moderate wounds and the rest were lightly wounded. One woman suffered shock.

The wounded were evacuated to the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center. A security source estimated that an explosive device was planted on the bus. Police suspect there may be another explosive device in the area and examine estimations that a terrorist hurled a grenade at the bus and fled the scene.

An eye witness at the scene said: “I heard a boom and then saw a black cloud. Guys in the cab radio said ‘A bus is dismantled.'”

Eye witnesses near the Kirya reported that the base speakers called all soldiers to take cover. Many police cars arrived at the area.

Turkish prime minister vows in speech in Cairo support for Palestinians in Gaza

CAIRO – Turkey’s prime minister has vowed support for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan described Egypt’s uprising that ousted longtime autocratic leader Hosni Mubarak from power last year as a point of hope for Palestinians. The Turkish leader delivered his remarks in a speech at Cairo University Saturday.

He also met President Mohammed Morsi in Cairo for the first time since the Egyptian Islamist leader was elected late June.

The Turkish leader is in Egypt with a delegation of 12 ministers and 350 businessmen.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people protested outside the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, where Arab foreign ministers are meeting to discuss Israel’s expanded fierce air assault on rocket operations in Gaza, which is run by the Islamic militant Hamas group.

Hamas claims missile strike on Tel Aviv, IDF slams it as propaganda

Hamas’ armed wing claims to have shelled “the occupied city of Tel Aviv”. If true, this will have been the first Hamas missile to hit Israel’s largest city. Israel has denied the claim, slamming it as propaganda.

­As soon as the first reports appeared on popular microblogging site Twitter, Tel Aviv began trending worldwide.

The the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades tweeted the claim, but so far, no confirmation is available.

Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Forces spokesperson Avital Leibovich took to her Twitter account to slam the claim as propaganda. She said “Clarification: no rockets were fired toTel Aviv. The rumors are part of Hamas propaganda.”

In response to statements by Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas that he would not demand the “right of return” for PA Arabs to the homes that their grandparents and great-grandparents abandoned in the State of Israel – statements Abbas later reneged on – Hamas has issued its own document on the matter. Even if the PA as a matter of policy were to agree not to demand that nearly all the Jews of Israel be thrown out of their homes to accommodate the descendants of “refugees,” Hamas said it wold never agree to such a plan – and any concessions Israel makes in return for the removal of the “right of return” from PA demands would be irrelevant, as far as the Gaza terror group was concerned.

Attack on the south continues: Three Qassam rockets exploded Tuesday, two near Sderot and one in the town of Netivot. In both cases, the rockets hit open areas and no injuries or damage were reported.

Against the backdrop of political unease, in light of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s Tuesday announcement that the elections for the Knesset will be held earlier than expected, Sderot Mayor David Buskila commented: “Israel is heading toward election when there are still unresolved defense issues.”

HAIFA, Israel –  Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh has no problem calling for the destruction of Israel and blaming it for attacks linked to his own party, but when his relative needs life-saving heart surgery, only Israeli doctors will do.

The stunning hypocrisy comes to light after five Hamas-backed terrorists allegedly killed 16 Egyptian soldiers in the Sinai Peninsula that borders Gaza. Although evidence points to a Hamas-backed terror operation, Haniyeh inexplicably blamed it on Israel. The suspects were later killed by Israeli Defense Forces when they tried to cross the Kerem Shalom border.

The Palestinian Authority announced this week that it has spent nearly $7 billion on the Gaza Strip since 2007, when Hamas violently seized control of the regional coast. This means that since 2007, according to Fatah spokesman Ahmed Assaf, about $120 million has been going to the Gaza Strip. He revealed that the Palestinian Authority continues to pay salaries to some 80,000 “civil servants” in there– but he did not elaborate on the nature of their work.

The West Bank’s Palestinian Authority government, headed by Salam Fayyad, has appealed to the donor countries to increase the financial aid to strengthen the Palestinian economy, especially in the Gaza Strip. But before the donors take any decision, they really should ask Fayyad and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas about the $7 billion they have already spent on the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip over the past four years: Where is it?

These revelations came on the eve of a meeting of donor countries in Brussels to discuss financial aid to the Palestinian Authority. The $7 billion that has been invested in the Gaza Strip by the Palestinian Authority has, ironically, helped Hamas solidify its control over the area. In other words, Fayyad and Abbas are funding their rivals in Hamas who terrorized them out of the Gaza Strip in June 2007. The Palestinian Authority is continuing to spend millions of dollars on the Gaza Strip at a time when its leaders are not even permitted to visit there; Mahmoud Abbas cannot even visit his home in Gaza.

This is rich. I guess Hamas figures that the people who were released as part of the questionable Shalit prisoner-exchange deal would somehow be immune from all future prosecutions for any future crimes for the rest of they lives.

Israel fury as Hamas attends global parliamentary forum

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Monday slammed the decision of the Swiss-based Inter-Parliamentary Union to invite the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas to attend its 2012 session. “This is just another example of international hypocrisy,” Lieberman told Israeli public radio. “In all international organisations, the 57 Muslim countries and the many non-aligned nations have the majority and consistently take anti-Israel positions,” he charged.

A three-member delegation of MPs from Hamas’s Change and Reform party left Gaza on Thursday for the meeting in Geneva, marking the first time parliamentarians from the Islamist movement will attend a session of the IPU.
