U.S.: Bin Laden Compound Was Command Center
STRATFOR
May 7, 2011
Osama bin Laden’s Pakistani compound was an active command center from which he directed al Qaeda, according to a senior U.S. intelligence official as he released videos May 7 showing bin Laden watching himself on tape and rehearsing speeches, Reuters reported. Bin Laden was a strategic thinker active in operational planning and tactical decision-making and was interested in continued U.S. attacks, the official stated. Bin Laden’s body was confirmed using identification by a woman at the compound, facial recognition methods and matching against a DNA profile with a likelihood of error of only 1 in 11.8 quadrillion, the official said.

U.S.: al Qaeda plotted against rail sector in 2010
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Al Qaeda contemplated plots against the U.S. rail sector in February of last year, the Department of Homeland Security said on Thursday.
“We have no information of any imminent terrorist threat to the U.S. rail sector, but wanted to make our partners aware of the alleged plotting. It is unclear if any further planning has been conducted since February of last year,” department spokesman Matthew Chandler said.
The Department of Homeland Security and other U.S. agencies have been reviewing the information from Osama bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan seized during the raid this week that killed the al Qaeda leader.
Three U.S. law enforcement and national security officials told Reuters that the threat information cited in the Homeland Security Department bulletin was a year old.
The officials said there was no current intelligence indicating the existence of any specific threat to trains or any other target in the continental United States which had emerged since the raid.

Osama’s al-Qaeda ready for a fight ASIA TIMES:
By Syed Saleem Shahzad
ISLAMABAD – Command of al-Qaeda will be taken over by a select handful of leaders who had been chosen in advance of the death of Osama bin Laden, who was killed on Monday morning in a strike by Pakistani and American special forces on a compound in Abbottabad, about 65 kilometers north of the Pakistani capital Islamabad.
The death of the 54-year-old Bin Laden, who had a US$50 million reward on his head, is also likely to mark the beginning of a shift of the war theater from Afghanistan to Pakistan, al-Qaeda insiders tell Asia Times Online.
Asia Times Online contacts in the North Waziristan tribal area – a militant hotbed – confirmed that several meetings had already been convened in the town of Mir Ali to formulate strategies. They all confirmed an immediate and fierce retaliation against Pakistan and the breaking up of all ceasefire agreements with the Pakistan military.
The US had been on Bin Laden’s trail ever since he fled Afghanistan when American forces invaded the country in 2001 to oust the Taliban in retaliation for the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington; Bin Laden and al-Qaeda planned the attacks while guests of the Taliban.
“I can report to the American people and to the world, that the US has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden,” President Barack Obama, also the US commander-in-chief, said from the White House. “After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body,” Obama said. “The death of bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our nation’s efforts to defeat al-Qaeda.”
It his believed one of his sons, two of his wives and many aides were killed in the raid, which included helicopter gunships.
Bin Laden’s death was confirmed by Pakistani intelligence. Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha, the director general of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), said the ISI had been aware of the operation and was part of the whole process.
The US has put all its embassies on alert, warning Americans of al-Qaeda reprisal attacks. This corresponds with information obtained by Asia Times Online that Bin Laden’s death is likely to revive international terror operations against Western capitals that had been frozen following the great Arab 2011 revolt.
Late last month, Bin Laden warned that al-Qaeda would unleash a “nuclear hellstorm” if he were captured, according to classified diplomatic documents released by WikiLeaks.

Hamas condems the martyrdom of Bin Laden
I don’t get it. Do Muslims actually believe a word they actually say? Cause if the believe a single word about Islamic martyrdom, how the only guaranteed way to get to the brothel in the sky where every man has Priapism, where you can finally get a damn drink, where you can have sex with young boys and it somehow isn’t gay, is by dying in the course of jihad, then the Muslim world should be sending flowers to Obama and the CIA. I mean we put their hero exactly where he and every other Muslim believer is willing to kill and die to get to. So whats the woop?
So I have two words for Hamas:
You’re Welcome!
Dispatch: Jihadist Groups After bin Laden’s Death
From STRATFOR:
Video here:
Vice President of Tactical Intelligence Scott Stewart discusses some of the al Qaeda franchise groups and other jihadist threats following the death of Osama bin Laden.
Editor’s Note: Transcripts are generated using speech-recognition technology. Therefore, STRATFOR cannot guarantee their complete accuracy.
In the wake of Osama bin Laden’s death, one of the things it is important to keep in mind is that jihadism is much bigger than just the al Qaeda core group. In fact, over the last several years, we have seen the franchise groups come to eclipse the core group in terms of importance on the physical battlefield and the ideological battlefield.
Many people have been saying, over the last day or so, that they believe jihadist terrorism is dead with the death of bin Laden, and that al Qaeda will be no more. But I think that a thoughtful discussion of this topic needs to look at what al Qaeda is.
At STRATFOR, when we look at jihadism, we see it as a much broader phenomenon than just al Qaeda. In fact, at the apex of the jihadist movement we do have al Qaeda core group. But below that we have a whole array of regional franchise jihadist groups. And further down we have an even broader, diffuse selection of people whom we call grassroots jihadists. Those are people who are radicalized, who have adopted a jihadist ideology but who do not have a real connection to the al Qaeda core or the franchise groups. Continue Reading →
In Sudan, 1,000 denounce killing of bin Laden
I bet it was North Sudan, the Arab Muslim side. Funny they didn’t say which part. It really matters in this case.
From YAHOO News
KHARTOUM (Reuters) – Around 1,000 people Tuesday gathered in the center of the Sudanese capital Khartoum to praise the late al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, chanting “Death to America.”
A radical Islamist party had called for a mass prayer to honor the mastermind of the September 11, 2001 plane attacks in the United States who was killed in a U.S. operation in Pakistan.
Mostly men dressed in traditional white robes, some of them arriving in expensive cars, gathered on a square in the center of Khartoum to attend the prayer and denounce the killing of bin Laden. Veiled women prayed separately in a corner of the square.
After the prayer, several radical Sunni Muslim clerics praised the al Qaeda leader in speeches and called on Arab leaders to fight the United States, widely seen in the region as a supporter of Israel and biased against Muslims.
“Islam is calling to fight America because it supports Israel and the Jews,” Sheikh Abu Zaid Mohammed Hamza told the gathering also attended by junior members of the ruling northern National Congress Party (NCP).
“We hope that all Arab presidents will become like Osama bin Laden,” he said, while some in the crowd chanted “jihad” (Holy War) and “Death to America.”
“Osama bin Laden is our brother,” said Sheikh Abdul Hai Youssuf, another hardline cleric.
Bin Laden lived in Sudan for five years, arriving in 1991 after falling out with Saudi Arabia’s ruling family over the kingdom’s participation in the U.S.-led campaign to end Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein’s occupation of Kuwait.
At first, he found a haven under Sudan’s Islamist government of President Omar Hassan al-Bashir. But he left in 1996 as U.S. and international pressure on Sudan mounted.
Many Sudanese have still positive memories of bin Laden because he invested in the African country and stood up against the United States which imposed sanctions on Sudan and bombed in 1998 the El Shifa medicine factory in Khartoum.
U.S. officials said it was producing chemical weapons ingredients and was partly owned by bin Laden. Sudan insisted it was only making pharmaceutical drugs.
The attack followed the bombings of U.S. embassies in Tanzania and Sudan’s neighbor Kenya, which killed at least 226 people including 12 Americans. Those attacks were blamed on al Qaeda.
Bashir’s Sudanese government stayed for the second day silent about bin Laden’s killing because it faces a dilemma.
Welcoming his death might bring Khartoum closer to its goal of getting removed from a U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism. But it might also anger Islamists and ordinary Sudanese.

Jerusalem Arabs honor bin Laden

Dozens of Arab residents hold rally in support of assassinated al-Qaeda leader in east Jerusalem’s Silwan neighborhood; meanwhile, bin Laden’s burial at sea prompts Muslim rage, Egypt imam says US violated Islamic custom

Arab support for terror chief: Dozens of Arab residents held a rally in support of assassinated al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in east Jerusalem’s Silwan neighborhood Monday evening.
Some of the participants at the site hurled stones at Israel Police forces deployed in the area. Police officers responded with crowd dispersal means.
Palestinian Response
Gaza government condemns US slaying of ‘Arab holy warrior’, asks ‘God to offer him mercy with true believers, martyrs’. Meanwhile, US source says special forces team’s mission had been to kill, not capture, arch terrorist in Pakistan
No reports of injuries or detainees were received following the rally.
Notably, bin Laden made various statements over the years in support of the Palestinians and against Israel.
In the past he declared that muslims were engaged in a war against Jews, and in March 2010 he slammed the United States for “its support of Israel and the ongoing occupation in Palestine.”
Muslim anger over sea burial
Meanwhile, news of Bin Laden’s sea burial ignited Muslim outcry worldwide, raising the possibility of wide backlash despite the apparent care the US military gave to his last rites.
A prominent imam in Egypt, Dr Ahmed El-Tayeb, said the US violated Islamic custom by not burying bin Laden on land, a move seen as a US attempt to prevent his resting place from becoming a shrine for extremist followers.
Islamist lawyer Montasser al-Zayat said bin Laden should have been buried in his native Saudi Arabia, home to Islam’s holiest sites. The US said earlier that Saudi officials refused to accept the body for burial.
Instead, bin Laden’s body was transported to the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, which brought him to his final resting place somewhere in the north Arabian Sea.
“The burial of bin Laden’s remains was done in strict conformance with Islamist precepts and practices,” said John Brennan, US President Barack Obama’s top counter-terrorism adviser.
“The body was placed in a weighted bag. A military officer read prepared religious remarks which were translated into Arabic by a native speaker,” the US official said. “After the words were complete, the body was placed on a prepared flat board, tipped up, whereupon the deceased’s body eased into the sea.”
