Anti Erdogen protests in Turkey continue unabated

H/T M

Tens of thousands of people demonstrating in Adana city yesterday demanding the fall of the Government of Erdogan.
There is a blockade in the international media about the Turkish people demonstrations. While the media has been blocked from reporting on this, Facebook has not apparently.

Single Femen protestor does schtick at Constantinople airport.

As a point of interest I think that this particular performance art could be ended by just ignoring them since the script seems to depend on the image of a number of large uniformed men wrestling with a single mostly naked female protesting for (usually) quite legitimate rights. If they were ignored a few times or laughed at or applauded and people walked away and no violence or force was used I bet they would have to change the script. Just as a point of interest.

Erdogan calls Christian Byzantium “a dark chapter” in history

Remember. Byzantium was actually built by the Byzantines. The main city, and a massive concentration of logic, reason and a repository of all classical thought was the city of Constantinople, named after the first Christian Emperor of Rome. So what Erdogan says would be laughable if it wasn’t so pernicious. Wars have been fought over less and sometimes even should have been. Also that Constantinople became Istanbul because of a  siege and consequent series of actions that would be called a ‘War-Crime’ by any standard except Islamic.

The prime minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called the time of Christian emperors in Byzantium “a dark chapter” in history. In Erdogan’s view, in the fifteenth century, after invasion of Constantinople by Muslims, began “the time of enlightenment,” reports Kath.net.

The speech of the conservative Turkish prime minister was made during the laying of the foundation of the new road bridge over the Bosphorus in Istanbul that took place on May 29–the anniversary of Ottoman invasion of the Byzantine empire 1453.

“We are continuing to write the history today,” said Erdogan during the ceremony.

The Turkish authorities have celebrated the anniversary of the victory over Byzantium by a series of festivities.

The scale of riots against the Turkish government is really quite surprising.

I have to say, my first instincts about what is taking place in Turkey was dead wrong. While this may have started by a classic ‘Occupy’ group protesting some rational construction project, it has become the collective frustration of a huge percentage of the Turkish population. I would be reluctant to guess where it goes though. Regional events that are similar have not given great results so far.

RT does news piece on the Turkish riots. Again, more than a park and some stores.

Please feel free to post riot videos from Turkey in the comments under this post for today. It does seem that this event is far far more than a mere Turkish version of the union funded, ‘Occupy’ nonsense in North America and Western Europe.

Try and watch it to the end.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has stepped back from building a shopping mall in the Artillery Barracks project to replace Taksim Gezi Park, while also announcing that a mosque will be built on Taksim Square.

“You cannot make an AVM [shopping mall] familiar to the international ones in this area. There is no conclusive AVM project here. Maybe we will make a city museum there or an architectural work that will put different activities in place. Is there any certain document? No,” said Erdo?an on June 2 in Istanbul as he attended the Rumeli Turks Association’s general assembly.

Iran alleged to have sent a truck load of scorpions to Turkey where the Syrian refugees are staying.

This is the second most messed up story I have heard in some time. But it comes from a good source. The facebook page with more info will not display right now but I am trying to find some news on it.

Below, a screen capture of the page this video came from.

All I can get from this so far is this:

One Cargo shipment of Live Scorpions to Turkey exported by the Islamic Regime of Iran which was planned to be released in the Syrian refugee camps has been seized.
