Abusive comments in Russian and English were flooding onto Tsarnaev’s page on VK, a Russian-language social media site, on Friday after he was identified as a suspect in the bombing of the Boston marathon.

MOSCOW — Russian security services and immigration police raided a market in the center of St. Petersburg on Thursday and detained 378 people, many of them migrants from Central Asia and the mainly Muslim North Caucasus.
The arrests followed an armed melee at the gates of the market early Thursday morning in which one man died of a knife wound. Local news reports said he was from the Kabardino-Balkaria Republic of the North Caucasus.
In a statement, St. Petersburg police called the follow-up raids a preventive measure and said that immigration police were reviewing residency permits for 330 of those detained. The statement said that 26 people had been charged with hooliganism and 19 people were being investigated for participating in the fight.

At the end of the day, the US can and really should fly a few thousand surgical sorties into the DPRK and destroy their ability to make war utterly while killing as few people as possible. This would enrage the leadership so much they would have to slaughter a few of their own people just to claim it was America’s fault.

Egyptian sentenced to 1.5 years for Russian WWII memorial desecration

17:56 22/03/2013VOLGOGRAD, March 22 – RAPSI. A court in the southern Russian city of Volgograd sentenced Egyptian citizen Mohammed Montafer to 1.5 years in a penal colony Friday for desecrating a memorial for those who perished during World War II.
The prosecutors requested a three-year sentence, while the defense attorneys insisted on two months in prison.
On New Year’s Eve, the 29-year-old man urinated on the Eternal Flame on the Heroes Alley in downtown Volgograd and then picked a fight with a local resident who rebuked him for an incident.
Upon being detained, the Egyptian told the police that he arrived to Volgograd a month earlier to intern with the Volgograd State Medical University.
He added that he and his flatmates celebrated the holiday on New Year’s Eve and then took a walk around the city.

A group of OMON officers allegedly forced several Muslim visitors at a Surgut cafe in the Khanty-Mansiisk autonomous district to shave their beards off at gunpoint, a news report said Tuesday.
According to Faizulo Aminov, a leader of the local Tajik diaspora, witnesses said the incident occurred on March 3 at a cafe near a local mosque. Men in OMON uniforms with automatic weapons broke in and forced the cafe’s visitors to get on their knees, he said, and then forced three of the visitors to shave off their beards.
It is not clear why the incident is only now being reported.
Several other visitors were reportedly taken to the local police station, where their documents were checked and they were soon released.
The Interior Ministry’s branch in the Khanty-Mansiisk autonomous district told Interfax on Tuesday that a check would be opened into the incident.

The Mayor of Moscow says there are no plans to build a new mosque in the city, and says the ‘excessive’ number of economic migrants was a ‘harmful thing’.
“It has turned out that the praying Muslims are not at all Russian citizens and they are not Moscow residents. They are labor migrants. There are only 10 percent of Moscow residents among them and building mosques for everyone who wants it – I think this will be over the top,” Sergey Sobyanin said in an interview with Moscow’s Echo radio.
The top city official went on to say that “Muscovites now get irritated by people who speak a different language, have different manners, with aggressive behavior. This is not purely ethnic, but this is connected with some ethnic traits,” Sobyanin said.

Two Russian nuclear-armed bombers circled the western Pacific island of Guam this week in the latest sign of Moscow’s growing strategic assertiveness toward the United States.
The Russian Tu-95 Bear-H strategic bombers were equipped with nuclear-tipped cruise missiles and were followed by U.S. jets as they circumnavigated Guam on Feb. 12 local time—hours before President Barack Obama’s state of the union address.
Air Force Capt. Kim Bender, a spokeswoman for the Pacific Air Force in Hawaii, confirmed the incident to the Washington Free Beacon and said Air Force F-15 jets based on Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, “scrambled and responded to the aircraft.”
“The Tu-95s were intercepted and left the area in a northbound direction. No further actions occurred,” she said. Bender said no other details would be released “for operational security reasons.”

OK the story is getting interesting. Some reports now claim that the meteor was destroyed above ground by anti-missile defenses. Now that is interesting in a few ways. If its true, then Russia has moved far ahead of what people commonly think I suspect. It is also interesting that if this is true, and they had not shot the meteor, then what would the consequences have been of an impact of this magnitude? Would it have been equivalent to a nuke? Would it have been another meteor-caused extinction event?
