Poisonous gas sprayed in Homs leaves seven people dead and scores affected, activists say

Seven people have died in Homs after they inhaled a poisonous gas sprayed by government forces in a rebel-held neighbourhood, activists said.
Activists also told Al Jazeera that scores of others were affected in al-Bayyada neighbourhood. Side effects reported include nausea, relaxed muscles, blurred vision, and breathing difficulties.
Residents said they did not know the nature of the gas sprayed.
“The situation is very difficult. We do not have enough facemasks. We don’t know what this gas is but medics are saying it’s something similar to Sarin gas,” Raji Rahmet Rabbou, an activist in Homs, told Al Jazeera.

The plant, under the supervision of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, is headed by Dr. Esmaeil Namazi, who oversees 28 Iranian and 12 Russian scientists, according to a source in the Revolutionary Guards intelligence division with access to the site.
There are several underground facilities at two levels with elevators reaching the lower level some 40 feet underground and where more than 100 personnel work on the microbial bomb project, the source said.

I wonder if the same people who were red faced with anger and hatred at Bush for launching a war on Iraq because of Saddam’s well documented use of, and threats of WMD’s will feel the same or act the same with Obama’s identical threat against Syria.
Note to angry leftists: The WMD’s that Syria likely has, almost certainly came from Iraq. This blog has published pictures of convoys of Russian trucks moving the goods for Hussein.

Iran to boost uranium enrichment ‘with intensity’ – nuclear chief

Tehran is set to sharply boost the number of centrifuges they use to produce nuclear fuel, the country’s nuclear energy chief has announced. This comes amid harsh Western sanctions and high tensions over Iran’s nuclear program.
“Despite sanctions, we will most likely see a substantial increase in the number of centrifuge machines this year. We will continue enrichment with intensity,” the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani, said on Wednesday, as quoted by state TV. The Iranian calendar year continues till March 20.
Abbasi-Davani did not elaborate whether the Islamic Republic would step up work at 5 per cent fuel enrichment or the higher 20 per cent quality. Five per cent enriched uranium is used to produce fuel for reactors, whilst a higher grade of enrichment is needed to build nuclear weapons, which makes up the core of the West’s concerns about Iran.

Recent IAEA findings are bound to underline the fears facing the world powers over Iran’s atomic activity.
The International Atomic Energy Agency has made a report that Iran is now capable of doubling its uranium enrichment capability.
The leaked report has suggested the IAEA is aware of the completion of centrifuge installations at the underground Fordo plant.
The Fordo facility was built for centrifuges which can assist in the development of nuclear weapons.

Despite the statement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel’s red line on Iran’s illicit nuclear program could be reached by next spring, Iranian officials are adamant that war is close.
In analyzing Mr. Netanyahu’s recent speech to the United Nations General Assembly, an Iranian nuclear policy strategist boasted to state media outlet irannuc.ir that Mr. Netanyahu’s red line is based on the current enrichment process to the 20 percent level at the Fordow nuclear facility. A recent International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report shows Iran has 90 kilograms of 20 percent enrichment, needing just 130 kilograms of such material for a nuclear bomb, which the Israelis conclude will happen by next spring.
“The first important fact is that Netanyahu has assumed that the speed of 20 percent enrichment by Iran remains the same till next year, but if the speed of such conversion then is changed, the timeline for such capacity will change, too,” said the unnamed strategist, hinting that Iran could obtain the needed material for the bomb sooner than Israel expects.

Iran has doubled the number of uranium enrichment machines it has in an underground bunker, a UN report said on Thursday, showing Tehran continued to defy western pressure to stop its atomic work.
In the weeks and months when Israeli politicians increased their talk of air strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, the Islamic republic was rapidly increasing the enrichment capacity of its Fordow site, buried deep underground to withstand any such hit.
