Buddhist – Muslim violence and arson continues in Burma

NAYPYITAW, Myanmar, March 28 (UPI) — More than 100 homes belonging to Muslims in central Myanmar were raided during sectarian violence, a local police official said.
Anti-Muslim riots spread to Muslim townships of Monyo and Padigon, about 100 miles north of Rangoon. A Monyo police officer told The Irrawaddy, a Thai newspaper covering Myanmary, that overnight clashes were spreading but there were no deaths reported.
“A mosque was totally destroyed and nearly 100 Muslim-owned houses were ransacked,” the officer said on condition of anonymity.
Myanmar’s government imposed curfews and martial law over parts of the country as violence between Muslims and Buddhists erupted last week. The United Nations estimates at least 12,000 people have been displaced by the fighting.
Buddhists fight back against Islam and halal slaughter
Leftists must be beside themselves trying to figure out who to back on this one.
The buddhists are more likely to be vegetarians or if not, would support humane slaughter while Muslims want the most painful spectacle they can make happen; all people are the same general colour and would be considered minorities in Western nations. Yet still, Islam is the love-child of the modern left because classical liberals, now called far right extremists, want Islam stopped before it destroys us all.
I guess they will just have to ignore these events, or pretend they aren’t really happening, or lie outright about what is going on.

YANGON, Myanmar (AP) — Anti-Muslim mobs rampaged through three more towns in Myanmar’s predominantly Buddhist heartland over the weekend, destroying mosques and burning dozens of homes despite government efforts to stem the nation’s latest outbreak of sectarian violence.
President Thein Sein had declared an emergency in central Myanmar on Friday and deployed army troops to the worst-hit city, Meikhtila, where 32 people were killed and 10,000 mostly Muslim residents were displaced. But even as soldiers restored order there after several days of anarchy in which armed Buddhists torched the city’s Muslim quarters, the unrest has spread south toward the capital, Naypyitaw.

Myanmar town in state of emergency with 20 dead
Myanmar declared a state of emergency Friday for a riot-hit town where 20 people have been killed in Buddhist-Muslim violence that has sparked fears of spreading unrest.
Swathes of Meiktila, located 130 kilometres (80 miles) north of the capital Naypyidaw, have been reduced to ashes as the authorities struggle to establish control after three days of clashes and arson.
“At least 20 people have been killed. We estimate that it could be higher but it is also difficult for us to gather all the figures,” a police officer who did not want to be named told AFP.

At least 10 people have been killed in riots in central Myanmar, an MP said Thursday, prompting international concern at the country’s worst communal unrest since a wave of Buddhist-Muslim clashes last year.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising above the town of Meiktila after buildings were set ablaze in a second day of fighting in the previously peaceful area, where a night-time curfew was imposed.
Several mosques were reported to have been torched.
The United States said it was “deeply concerned” by the unrest, which according to police erupted on Wednesday after an argument in a Muslim-owned gold shop intensified and caused about 200 people to fight in the streets.
Win Htein, a member of the opposition National League for Democracy party, said he had seen bodies at the scene of fresh clashes Thursday.

YANGON–Two people including a Buddhist monk were killed and at least three mosques were destroyed after riots broke out in a town in central Myanmar, police said Thursday.
Around 200 people fought in the streets after an argument in a Muslim-owned gold shop turned violent in Meiktila on Wednesday, according to a post on Myanmar Police Force’s Facebook page.
“One injured monk and Than Myint Naing, 26, who were being treated for their injuries died from their burns at hospital,” it said.
Police imposed a curfew from evening to early morning to control the situation.
“People tried to burn down the mosques,” one local police officer told AFP.
The unrest comes amid heightened concerns over Muslim-Buddhist relations in Myanmar, where communal conflict in the western state of Rakhine has left at least 180 people dead and more than 110,000 displaced since June 2012.

Muslims Forced to Shave Beards at Gunpoint, Report Says

A group of OMON officers allegedly forced several Muslim visitors at a Surgut cafe in the Khanty-Mansiisk autonomous district to shave their beards off at gunpoint, a news report said Tuesday.
According to Faizulo Aminov, a leader of the local Tajik diaspora, witnesses said the incident occurred on March 3 at a cafe near a local mosque. Men in OMON uniforms with automatic weapons broke in and forced the cafe’s visitors to get on their knees, he said, and then forced three of the visitors to shave off their beards.
It is not clear why the incident is only now being reported.
Several other visitors were reportedly taken to the local police station, where their documents were checked and they were soon released.
The Interior Ministry’s branch in the Khanty-Mansiisk autonomous district told Interfax on Tuesday that a check would be opened into the incident.

A recently appointed official of a county in northwestern China’s Xinjiang region is cracking down on religious activities—from mandatory daily prayers to traditional burial rites—of the mostly Muslim Uyghurs, causing much anxiety among the community.
Vice governor Haki had severely tightened restrictions since taking office two years ago, forcing residents to hold religious practices normally performed at home in mosques, where women and anyone under age 18 are not permitted, according to Uyghurs in Ghulja county in Xinjiang’s Ili autonomous prefecture.
A Uyghur woman said that in a recent incident plainclothes officers took photos of a group of children at a mosque with their parents as part of prayer ceremonies for a recently-deceased relative, prompting a “Cultural Revolution-style self-criticism” led by Haki in the house of worship.
