Israel artillery has fired back at Syria after gunfire hit an Israeli military vehicle in the Golan Heights. The incident comes amid high tensions in the region as Israel is waging an offensive against Gaza while civil war continues in Syria.

No one was injured in the exchange of fire on Sunday, the Israeli military said. This has been the latest spillover of violence from Syria, where rebel fighters are trying to topple the regime of Bashar Assad.

“Shots were fired at IDF (Israeli army) soldiers…in the central Golan Heights,” an army spokeswoman told AFP. “Soldiers responded with artillery fire towards the source of the shooting.”

The Israeli military however did not know if they were attacked by Syrian rebels or forces of the Syrian government.

For Netanyahu, Gaza escalation could pave the way to Iran strike

Haaretz:

Until this week, Prime Minister Netanyahu took pride in never having lead Israel into a war. Now he may be on the verge of starting not one but two.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak have not given up the dream of carrying out a major operation in Iran. For some time, prior to the recent American election, they were in disagreement: Barak was against creating facts on the ground which President Barack Obama would be forced to deal with, whereas Netanyahu entertained the idea of exploiting the sensitive political period…

At least three people killed Thursday morning when a Grad rocket hit an apartment building in Kiryat Malachi. Five other people were injured in the attack, with three in serious to critical condition. Rescue teams hurried to the scene to treat the injured, who were taken for treatment in a Beersheva hospital. Among the injured was a two year old baby. Sources said that the buiding hit by the rocket was in the Chabad neighborhood of the city.

Initial reports said that one person had been killed, with at least five injured, three of them critically. The five were among a large group that had taken refuge in an old building that suffered a direct hit from a Grad rocket. Rescue teams were trying to remove victims of the attack from the rubble, and were preparing for the possibility of more casualties, Magen David Adom officials said.

Hamas warn Israel of ‘opening hell’ after military chief is killed

Opening hell? Letting tons of Muslims in to anywhere, that is opening hell. Fighting back against relentless onslaughts? thats more like purgatory. The wording of this bit of yellow journalism is interesting as well. It places the blame for hostilities squarely on Israel for the strike on a military target while making it look like Israel is lying about the hundreds of rockets raining down on it in the past few days. Of course, the hundreds of videos of it doesn’t seem to matter.  Even the sub-headline make its look that way. The all out war started when Gaza started launching missiles at anything they could of course.

FEARS of an all-out war between Israel and Palestine grew last night after a Hamas military chief was killed in a missile strike.

Ahmed al-Jabari died in his car with an aide in the blitz on Gaza.

Israeli forces insisted they were responding to a string of rocket attacks from across the border.

Security chiefs claim the 46-year-old leader of the Islamist group was behind all terror acts against Israel from Gaza over the past decade.

But Hamas warned: “Israel has opened the doors of Hell. The occupation has committed a dangerous crime and exceeded all red lines.

The the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades tweeted the claim, but so far, no confirmation is available.

Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Forces spokesperson Avital Leibovich took to her Twitter account to slam the claim as propaganda. She said “Clarification: no rockets were fired toTel Aviv. The rumors are part of Hamas propaganda.”
